>> OUR BREAKING NEWS PROTESTERS AGAINST THE WAR IN GAZA. STILL INSIDE PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY'S LIBRARY TONIGHT. THIS IS A LIVE LOOK OUTSIDE. THE LEARNED VERY WHERE PROTESTERS HAVE NOW BEEN INSIDE FOR THE PAST. 24 HOURS TONIGHT, WE'RE CONTINUING TO TRACK THE SITUATION, SHOE AND WHERE THE SCHOOL'S LEADERS CURRENTLY STAND. WE'RE ALSO TAKING A CLOSE LOOK AT THE RISING TENSIONS ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY. NOW PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY WILL BE CLOSE ONCE AGAIN TOMORROW AS THE PROTESTS CONTINUES. IT IS 10 O'CLOCK. I'M JEFF GIANOLA. I'M ELIZABETHTON. THE UNIVERSITY'S PRESIDENT IS ASKING PORTLAND POLICE TO REMOVE THE PROTESTERS. >> AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. NOW LET'S GET TO OUR ELISE HAAS HAS BEEN FOLLOWING THE SITUATION SINCE IT BEGAN. SHE JOINS US LIVE TONIGHT. ELISE, I UNDERSTAND YOU GOT A LOOK INSIDE THE LIBRARY FOR YOURSELF TONIGHT. >> YES, SO I MEAN, TALK TO THE STUDENTS AND THEY ALLOWED ME TO GO INSIDE THE LIBRARY AS LONG AS I DIDN'T SHOOT FACES. AND I WILL SHOW YOU WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE IN JUST A MOMENT. BUT HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW. THERE'S PROBABLY 100 PLUS PEOPLE ASIDE AND HAVING AN OPEN MIC NIGHT. SO YOU CAN HEAR PEOPLE CHANTING, THEM SINGING AND SHARING SPEECHES AS WELL. AND SO NOW LET'S TAKE YOU INSIDE THE LIBRARY. WHEN YOU DO GO PAST THE BARRICADE, THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE, OUR IN THE FIRST FLOOR AND SO ARE THE TENTS TO PLUS, THERE IS FOOD AND OTHER SUPPLIES THERE. I DID SEE VANDALISM THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING. THERE WAS A LOT OF GRAFFITI ON THE WALLS UP AND DOWN THE STAIR CASES, BROKEN GLASS, BROKEN COMPUTERS, SMASHED VENDING MACHINES AND PLUS, MANY OF THE DOORWAYS THAT I SAW WERE ALSO BLOCKED OFF WITH FURNITURE. THE EMERGENCY FIRE ALARM SYSTEM HAS ALL BEEN RIPPED OUT AS WELL. BUT THEN IN SAME KIND OF SIMILAR THING WHEN YOU SEE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING TO A LOT OF GRAFFITI AND A LOT OF YOU KNOW, THE ENCAMPMENT IS PRETTY MUCH SPANNED THE ENTIRE LIBRARY PORTICO. SO WE DID TALK TO THE STUDENTS WHO ARE HERE IN THIS ENCAMPMENT. THEY ARE HERE COLLECTIVELY YET THEY DO HAVE INDIVIDUAL REASONS FOR JOINING THIS ENCAMPMENT. PROTESTS KNOW, FOR INSTANCE, ONE STUDENT, RIGHT? TALK WITH TOLD ME ABOUT HOW WE HAD A VERY TRAUMATIC CHILDHOOD. AND SO HE COULD IMAGINE THE BOMBINGS THAT ARE GOING ON IN GAZA. SO, YOU KNOW, REALLY, THE STUDENTS DO ANTICIPATE THAT POLICE WILL MOVE IN TONIGHT. AND WITH THAT, THEY SAY THEY HAVE A PLAN THAT THEY'RE NOT SHARING IT. BUT FOR THE STUDENTS THAT I TALKED TO, THEY SAY THAT THEY HAVE NO INTENTIONS OF LEAVING. SO WE'LL OUT HERE TONIGHT. I'M MONITORING THE PROTESTS WILL BRING YOU COVERAGE THROUGHOUT THIS NEWSCAST. BUT FOR NOW REPORTING LIVE IN DOWNTOWN PORTLAND, ELISE HAAS, KOIN 6 NEWS. WE STAY WITH US FOR JUST A BIT. BECAUSE AS WE BRANCH OFF FROM THOSE IMAGES, EYE-OPENING IMAGES THAT YOU JUST SHOWED TO US. >> IS THERE A WAY TO DESCRIBE THE MOOD OR THE FEELING ONCE YOU ARE INSIDE THE BUILDING, TAKING THOSE PHOTOS? YEAH, I MEAN, EVERYONE INSIDE WAS VERY RESPECTFUL AND KIND. YOU KNOW, IF I TALK TO THEM AND ASKED THEM, HEY, IT'S OKAY TAKE A PHOTO. I DIDN'T SAY YES OR NO. >> OR OF THEM RATHER, YOU KNOW. SO I WOULD SAY THERE'S ACTUALLY NO PIZZA. SO TO THEY ARE HAVING A MOVIE NIGHT IN THERE. SO PEOPLE ARE JUST KIND OF. KIND OF BROKEN OFF INTO THROUGHOUT LIKE ALL 5 OR 6 FLOORS BUT I CAN. AND THE MORE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ARE DOWNSTAIRS HANGING OUT AND JUST TALKING AMONGST THEMSELVES. SO SOME PEOPLE ARE DOING ART SUPPLIES ARE, YOU KNOW, KIND OF MAKING NEW SIGNS. I'M KIND OF RUNS THE INSIDE THE LIBRARY RIGHT NOW. >> ELISE, ARE YOU SHOCKED AT THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE INSIDE ARE VERY MEAN? THESE ARE THE FIRST IMAGES WERE SEEN OF THAT. AND I HAVE TO TELL YOU ON, I'M SHOCKED. AND YOU SAID THEY BROKEN COMPUTERS. RIPPED OUT EQUIPMENT. THERE'S GRAFFITI ALL OVER THE WALLS. WERE YOU SHOCKED BY WHAT YOU SAW? >> YEAH. AND NATURALLY, I THINK THAT IT'S ALWAYS HARD TO KNOW TRYING COMPREHEND OF THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE THAT'S GOING ON. AND SO IT'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS WHERE WHEN I ASKED THE STUDENTS, YOU KNOW, WHAT DO YOU MAKE OF, YOU KNOW, VANDALISM THAT HAPPENED INSIDE THE LIBRARY? THEIR REACTION WAS THAT, YOU KNOW, THINGS CAN BE REPLACED, BUT PEOPLE'S LIVES CAN'T. BUT IT IS NO DOUBT THAT THERE IS A LOT OF COSTLY DAMAGE. I THINK ONE OF THE MOST SURPRISING THINGS WAS THERE ARE GLASS WINDOWS. I GUESS IT'S GLASS WALL, IF YOU WILL. AND THERE ARE SEVERAL OF THOSE GLASS WALLS THAT WERE BROKEN. SO, YEAH, A LOT OF DAMAGE, A LOT OF CLEANUP THAT WILL HAPPEN PRETTY MUCH EVERY SINGLE FLOOR OF THE LIBRARY. THERE FURNITURE DAMAGED, TOO. SO WILL A CLEANUP EFFORT FOR SURE. ALL RIGHT, ELISE, GIVING US QUITE THE PERSPECTIVE, EYE-OPENING IMAGES. AND AS WE CAN SEE, LIKE YOU MENTIONED, THERE'S A LOT OF DAMAGE AND CLEANUP TO BE DONE. >> NOT ONLY OUTSIDE, BUT NOW WE KNOW INSIDE EXTENSIVE CLEANUP WILL NEED TO BE DONE IN THAT LIBRARY, AT LEAST. THANK YOU SO MUCH. >> WELL, PSU ONCE AGAIN CANCELING CLASSES THAT SHUTTING DOWN THE CAMPUS AGAIN TOMORROW DUE TO THE DEMONSTRATION AS PORTLAND POLICE STATED LAST NIGHT, DEMONSTRATION HAS CROSSED OVER FROM FREE SPEECH TO CRIMINAL ACTIVITY AND WE SAW THE DAMAGE IN THE LIBRARY FOR THE FIRST TIME TONIGHT. AND IT IS CRIMINAL. TODAY WE ASKED STUDENTS FOR THEIR THOUGHTS ON THE OCCUPATION. >> THE SAME PUBLIC PROPERTY HISTORY IN THE LIBRARY, THE RESEARCH MANY STUDENTS USE 3 WITH STARTED GETTING IN THE WAY OF SETH. I'M TRYING TO DO FOR SCHOOL, BUT AS BIG OF A DEAL IS, I GUESS WHAT THEY'RE PROTESTING FOR. >> PROTESTERS CALLING ON THE ADMINISTRATION AT PSU TO CUT TIES FROM BOEING AND OTHER COMPANIES CONNECTED TO THE WAR IN CARS. SO ORGANIZERS SAY THEY AREN'T GOING ANYWHERE UNTIL STUDENTS DEMANDS ARE MET. >> WE WANT THEM TO CUT TIES WITH HIM TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE GENOCIDE HAPPENING. POINT OF THE UNIVERSITY IS TO BE THE VOICE OF THE STUDENTS IN THE SAME WAY THAT WE ELECT OUR OFFICIALS TO REPRESENT US IN THE GOVERNMENT. THESE STUDENTS WHO ARE PAYING ENORMOUS AMOUNTS OF MONEY TO BE HERE, EXPECT THAT THE CAMPUS OF THE COLLEGE THAT THEY CHOSE CONTINUES TO REFLECT THE VALUES THAT THEY CHOSE THIS COLLEGE FOR >> AND BEYOND SEVERING TIES. WITH BOEING, THE DEMANDS PUBLISHED BY STUDENTS INCLUDE ADMINISTRATION CALLS FOR AN IMMEDIATE CEASE-FIRE IN GAZA. PROVIDE TRANSPARENCY AND ITS FUNDING INVESTMENTS, DISARM CAMPUS SECURITY OFFICERS AND DROP ANY CHARGES FOR THOSE TARGETED FOR PALESTINIANS SUPPORT. NOW THE UNIVERSITY'S PRESIDENT AND KUZ DID SEND OUT A MESSAGE TO THE PORTLAND CAMPUS COMMUNITY JUST THIS AFTERNOON. >> SAYING SHE REQUESTED PORTLAND POLICE TO REMOVE THE TRESPASSERS INSIDE THE LIBRARY. THIS MORNING SHE POSTED ON INSTAGRAM A MESSAGE TO STUDENTS AND OTHERS WHO ARE OCCUPYING THE CAMPUS LIBRARY. >> I HEARD YOUR DEMANDS AND I KNOW YOUR CONCERNS. THEY'RE VERY IMPORTANT CONCERNS ABOUT THE TERRIBLE WAR IN GAZA RIGHT NOW. >> I'M WILLING TO TALK TO YOU TO ENTER INTO A CONSTRUCTIVE DIALOGUE WITH YOU. WE CANNOT, HOWEVER, ALLOWED THE CONTINUED OCCUPATION OF MORE LIBRARY. >> AND HER MESSAGE, THEY'RE REALLY ECHOES WHAT SHE SAID JUST LAST NIGHT. YOU'RE LOOKING THE VIDEO FROM 24 HOURS AGO. ALMOST CUT WAS AMONG PORTLAND CITY LEADERS WHO HAD THAT LATE NIGHT NEWS CONFERENCE. THE PORTLAND POLICE CHIEF MAYOR DISTRICT ATTORNEY GATHERING TO TELL OCCUPIERS THAT THEY ARE ENGAGED IN CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR AND FELONY CHARGES COULD BE
