[Music] [Music] Venice is some sort of fantasy that people have inhabited for centuries the islands are built on pillars so the structure of the city is not even anchored to the ground underneath it's literally floating on water that gives a sort of sense of mirage to the whole experience of the CP the venice biennale the oldest periodical exhibition of contemporary art it was created in 1895 the mayor of Venice had the idea of creating an exhibition they would focus on the artists of the time the Venice Biennale is divided into main venues so holds Rd near the garden where the central pavilion is and where the main exhibition happens the other main venue is for the art Somali which is an old quite beautiful building and that venue is surrounded by a number of national pavilions each will bring an exhibition by an artist from their own country contemporary art is so international when you see who comes to Venice Biennale it's just such a eclectic you know group people come from all over the world and that adds to to the interesting social dynamic and interaction guinness is amazing to be able to go and see really good shows from all over and not just the work but see how people hang things how people you know after going year after year to the pavilion you get you know you get to know the architecture of the different places and see how different artists work in these facing that's super interesting - it does feel like a proper survey of the world of art I don't think there is any other occasion in which a young artists or even a more established artist can say he or she is exhibiting in the same room where Gustav Klimt exhibited were where Giacometti received the prize for a lifetime achievement of sculpture so more than anywhere else or you have a sense of being part of a continuity that is now more than hundred years old I think the power of a city like Venice is that it offers you so many different experiences you can go for the Biennale you can go just to see churches and smell like a week just to do that you can see amazing architecture and then you can get lost in the little streets so where everyone gets lost we included [Music] you get lost for took for moments and I've never had net I've never turn on my phone I just go I don't know you just need to relax and you need to walk a lot and not in sensible shoes never wear high heels and dinner and ice cream there's one ice cream shop that I love and I can never really find but we do find that in the end and it's very special yeah the biggest thing for me and it is all of the food there for them to meet meet all these people the idea the family of the art world Delta and that's funny they're relaxed situations and relaxed sitting together and drinking and having fun intent and maybe also speak about our to nose maybe not [Music] did it hurt I'm so sorry so our love Venice you know first thing that actually when my team and I arrived here the first thing we did since we weren't planning to work the first day with culottes got straight and gone it's like the most touristic thing that you could do probably in the world but there it's still really magical you know there's a lot of things like that in Venice where I think it's been sort of like a tourist destination since Napoleon still it's like you can't spoil it it's still so incredible the preparation of an organism as complex as the venice biennale is extremely challenging and it's also peculiar to without following in stereotypes to a very Italian passion for both melodrama and extremes accomplishment achieved with a mixture of Norland and madness and I can say this because I'm Italian and because I did it a few years ago I know that my work came by sea and that it's a really long process I have to get to Italy and then it has to travel by boat to get to Venice you definitely have the sense that it could go lost [Music] is curious like what what is this pian are they going to be it's got a fantastic theme and people are coming from all around the world until the last minute I think you know nobody knows exactly even the artist how it's going to really all look and function but I think that uncertainty is I think important there's a an excitement you know like a treasure hunt [Music] you [Music]
