INSIDE Nintendo HQ in Kyoto, Japan - Nintendo Minute

hi guys welcome back to Nintendo minute we're here but only for like a moment because then we're gonna be like on a plane because you're going summer really cool yes last week we talked about our Nintendo switch travel essentials because we're going somewhere yes and it's not just anywhere it's not just anyway we are visiting Nintendo headquarters in Kyoto Japan yes yes so this is pretty much the most amazing trip ever we are excited to take you along with us and show you some of the cool things that will probably be finding in Kyoto Japan so let's go so our flight was from San Francisco and we were going to Kansai Airport to have a long flight but on our flight we were very lucky to have two special guests big surprise mr. Yabuki and mr. Nogami so they had been in San Francisco for the Game Developers Conference and I were headed back home and we were leaving home but guess what we were on the same flight yes and so of course we were passing the time a little bit at the airport so we played some Mario Kart 8 deluxe and we almost hit a snag because mr. negami did not have his game up to the latest version yes I mean I was a hot tip well mr. Yabuki knows a thing or two about mario karts he's sure I didn't even know you could do this you can basically tell your switch like match the latest version of the people I'm playing with and that then you don't need to like be on Wi-Fi to do that which is really cool like lifehack yeah he won Wow what it's all right I'm not surprised number two well you had an underhanded maneuver at the last second and I got third place mister you buguese suggestion of the track that we played was sunshine Airport that's a good get it I did try to suggest the I just liked it and everybody gave me a funny look oh well dirty look [Music] okay so we've been on the plane for our several hours now maybe or planes in Street Fighter Ultra Street Fighter 2 yes I mean you're very good up and I'm very bad at what you're learning I am some new year's resolution super mentor tutorial action yes yes still was not very good it's ok and it was like a fun way to pass the time do it okay we finally made it to Japan and it's been a couple years since I'd visited Japan and something I noticed that was not here last time I came was all sorts of signs with Nintendo characters everywhere it wasn't welcoming you really awesome as soon as we got off with the plane there was a huge like welcome to Kent Kansai right sign which was just all of them into new characters and there were a lot of people wait to get in line basically to take a picture I know but the other thing that they had at the airport was the Nintendo chicken right so basically it's like a little area in there when you arrive if it has games that you can play with a really cool amiibo display there was a Mario statue for you to take photos with a cap you can wear a copy don't wear a copycat right copycat Pepe had this amiibo collection was pretty good I mean yes pretty much every amiibo that I'd say yes including very big potential people write the new yes then you all the new stuff was there too and it was kind of nice seeing people who look to kind of like travel-weary probably from long flights but they were all like having fun playing playing some games there must be a nice way to feel like it's a nice way to break I get some energy back up and even sitting on the plane for so long yeah so that was that was really the perfect welcome for us into the Kyoto area yes [Music] we finally made it like a really amazing moment I've actually never been she first told ya it's a Nintendo headquarters before you've been there happened a couple times but I'm sure my presence made it so much better never like this you know it's we're sort of all the the business teams our minds one of the two main Nintendo buildings in the area really very impressive building you know tells you you've got a big nice sign telling you that you've arrived at the headquarters and there were some really great cherry blossoms just all around the building interests it's really beautiful and they also have these like flags flying around those are cool Flags really cool it's super cool but the building is like this big sort of white building and then you went into the lobby and that was really nice has like a very classy very clean and classy yes the first thing we were shown to which is actually really cool and very Japanese is this special room it's called a tatami room not what you find in yeah but it's really a room that our employees here in the office in Kyoto can you know relax and hang out and kind of lounge but it's done in a traditional what's called a tatami style so you can see that there's really no furniture in the room it's all of this - Tommy mats that's a Tommy are these sort of straw mats that are on the ground they feel very nice under your feet yes and you don't you don't have shoes on you go in first thing you do take off your shoes off and then of course there's these really pretty screens as well and these are made of paper yeah don't get too rowdy no this is what this is room is for relaxing yes you know it's for you to just kind of chill and enjoy the sudden enjoy the setting yes there's some screens here as well just to kind of two big rooms that can be closed or open to connect but yeah ah door a door to another room we're gonna actually be doing something that we think is relaxing which is play Nintendo switch probably relax this is how we re relaxed although I would love for to have a room like this right in my house or at the office but that is so cool will be had an event like this in our office where you can slick me on the teeth it is nice to help you in a way I get a change of setting yeah like you can share your computer all day right so it's it's really nice for your mind yeah maybe you come up with a big idea sitting a room like this where you played a lot of video games in tatami room so I'm looking forward to I know this is like where you know Nintendo's which is great because you can even play in a tatami [Music] we got a little hungry first yes after doing - Tommy things we got pretty good yeah double major hunger yes and so we went up to the cafeteria in our headquarters and appropriately they had ramen and so of course you and I played a little bit of arms but the bowl of ramen is this delicious prize I don't know why we didn't just order two bowls of ramen no we can't do that the bowl of ramen just like looking exactly like the Robin I can't believe stage from the game I feel like there is that's not a coincidence but some inspiration maybe I don't know yes but I was playing as min min as usual you actually you actually did pretty good though yeah you got the ramen a short five minute walked away from the Nintendo headquarters is the Nintendo Development Center and this is a newer building and actually when we opened a couple years ago yeah and I know you were originally saying you couldn't tell the difference between the two but if you look closely that intend to logo that's up high it was a little bit different yeah one has the racetrack logo right and when does not and believe it or not the Development Center is where the development happens that's right yes where all the developers obviously are working away making all these great games so it's very cool place and we of course cannot show you much of the inside because the magic are we getting our you know I think we got to see the very futuristic lobby yeah that's about it you can't see the rest we can either hide as a mystery that come out though is magic yeah so that's what we do that's what we're gonna we're gonna take that in and call me today so we are very lucky to be in Kyoto at all there's a lot of people that come from all over the world I see these beautiful cherry blossoms it is very crowded but once you see all these cherry blossoms you gotta get one the most amazing beautiful thing ever and they're everywhere I mean we went to a park to see cherry blossoms which is I got an ice past time during the spring time for four people as cherry blossoms vie so we did that and and it's very picturesque and really really pretty okay so we are about to go home most on all those very sad to leave us we'd get up but we couldn't leave without the old shopping clothes when you come to Japan you buy all the things so into a quick show and tell Shunta the crown jewel is it yeah yes super famicom classic mini very cool very wonderful different design of Super Famicom Super NES have different designs it's really a let's hear it display also a couple different games I'm so very excited about this yes really cool I think my favorite thing that I got was this whoa this beauty here and be going over the weight limit on your luggage here I know it's you know this is um this is something that I've been eyeing the masterworks truck and actually think it's cool that um the book is in Japanese so like all the the actual artwork and something up my favorite so I mean I can't read any of it but it's kind of a you can look at it that's what I'm doing it's like a nice Japanese yeah right I got these these are Hana Fuda cards yeah which is so this is actually what Nintendo made a long time ago and yes this is kind of a take they had they had this version and then the one that was based on the classic design yes so this this is Mario wearing an outfit from the class any class okay so this is a cool nintendo momento that's right that's right I got there's a lot of splatoon so a lot like taking a phenomenon it could you know it really is and there's ton we see kids like planes for doing it in the stream their friend it's pretty cool but anyways they have um I have these little like totally hosted though bookmark note groups and they're so cute yes yo you'll be getting a lot of work related documents with these notes speaking of splatoon yeah this was really cool so this is a book of these this is the splatoon Koshien 2018 official fanbook splatoon Koshien was a huge nationwide tournament that they did yeah and you can see like they have photos of all the teams that participated in this and there's a big poster in here this is just like an incredible yes memento of the whole tournament and the team that participated in this are coming in to LA before hmm for something for something for something for a tournament best of luck to them best of yes even though we might be inside train for this team but who knows and the last thing that I picked very cool this is cloth I actually found this you have to give me the credit okay fine you did find this but I bought it and it's really cute okay it's very very nice but it took a cute little tote bag front and back can't see that so if back says legend I thought a Link to the Past and he's like taunting this cuckoo here bad decision and then what happens fallen guy what happens don't be means for one don't see the cookie don't know okay actually got this and I've been using it all week as a 19 these like around it's very very functional yes last thing good show here is at stores in Japan there's all sorts of these cool well pamphlets that you can get so you get all sorts of information on Nintendo switch and you have the yeah so if you're ever wondering what is this Nintendo lavvo thing you can just take one of these and yeah they have a lot of brochures that the printable brochure is still quite big tired in Japanese store yeah but it's kind of cool to see pretty mature don't let me see too much of this and of course for us you come from out of the country these are nice little collectibles yeah you're like hey here I'll take you thank you very much um so we are about to leave it's very sad to leave Japan but we really hope that you enjoyed coming along with us on this really special trip to Kyoto and to visit our global headquarters here we definitely know a really good time it really is a once-in-a-lifetime experience yeah and it's been really wonderful us to be able to share with you yeah we'll wrap it up It's kind of crazy how gray and lifeless both buildings are, considering how colorful everything Nintendo usually is. Very stark contrast to Facebook/Google/Apple campuses.

This is fascinating because there's actually very, very little footage from inside of Nintendo's HQ/Development Center. They don't show much (for obvious reasons) but it's still interesting nonetheless...still want a documentary on the making of one of their games, but this is the next best thing.

Shame you can’t visit any part of their HQ (afaik). I’m planning a trip to Japan maybe next year, and would definitely include Kyoto if I had a chance to go geek out at the “house of Mario”...

There is no footage from inside the buildings. This “visit” makes no sense. I don’t even know why this video was released unless it’s only a Switch advert. Still very strange stuff to be released.If they weren’t allowed to visit just don’t publish this.

I go by here pretty much every week. It’s a pretty big building, but there’s never any activity around it. I really wish they’d open it up some day for tours or even just a gift shop would be nice! I stumbled upon the old Nintendo HQ (when they just made cards) last week, which is also near here. It’s smaller but much cuter!

This video is just really odd. It's an official Nintendo vlog and they don't get any welcome at the HQ at all. Just shoved in to a tatami room where they set up a switch in the corner and pretend like they're excited
