Inside A Hidden Architect’s Own Family Home That Reveals A Gorgeous Haven

living around this area is that the openness allow us to really get connected with the people walking around it doesn't block you from communicating with your neighbors it's almost have that humble quality that people are very used to in the past I'm Gwen tan from foremost architects a house which I call open house [Music] the name open house came to mind when we were designing the house because it's meant to be totally porous and open all the facades except for the first story Timber walls and doors that actually give us a sense of security from the street the rest of the house is totally open to the street as well as the elements foreign [Music] court yet before the house unfolds and in this entrance foyer you will also find discreetly hidden powder room as well as Walking Shoe Closet areas [Music] the palette for the house is predominantly in concrete or foam walls on both sides of the house so this is actually very neutral palette give rise to a very simple canvas for us to place the different objects of the house to put it together over time into the house we actually have the kitchen area there is no light and dry there's only one single big kitchen here because we do quite a fair bit of cooking Beyond this kitchen itself we actually have the dining areas and the living space facing the rear part of the house where you have a lot of large greeneries and daylight here the living room is almost like a double volume space close to almost five meters tall [Music] the real part of the house is also fully glassed on water wall on each floor to maximize the reviews to the greeneries which is right outside the house typically for a very tropical home you'll be getting a lot of heat from the Sun this is something that we want to design for when we were actually planning the house on the west part of the house we have all the spaces that love the Sun the rest of the bedrooms are actually on the back part of the house which is on the East fronting side and because of the large Greenery and the trees at the back we get a very subdued impact of the Eastern Sun [Music] foreign the front in the back of the house through on every single floor and this means that in every space that you have you have opportunity to see through the house on all levels and when we are in the pool itself even while swimming we actually wanted to afford the people in the pool that view of the rear Gardens as well so therefore we have a very big glass aperture within the pool and this actually visually connects the pool to the living room as well as the part connector at the back foreign this is a multi-generation home for me where we house both sides of the family Under One Roof so on the top floor I have my mom-in-law on the third floor is actually a level that my mother stays with my son and on the second floor is a master bedroom [Music] the master bedroom is designed to optimize the views on both ends of the house so we have glass separating the rooms from the bathrooms glass separating the bathroom from the pool so one can actually see right through from within the room or vice versa from the pool [Music] staying in this house have really made us very appreciative of staying in a tropical environment and a house that is truly designed to work with the tropical climate this is something that made us feel very surreal that we are so close to the urban environment but yet so close to Nature thanks for staying till the end now if you like what you've just seen do subscribe to our Channel and click the Bell so that you get updates whenever a new video pops out and if you'd like to have your home featured feel free to drop us an email at hello stackhomes.com
