Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
Something new in 2018 that people need to realize is skepticism is not always a sign of intelligence. Sometimes extreme skepticism, especially of basic scientific dogma, is often a sign of an intensely conspiratorial mind that asks the world to bend to it rather than it bending to the reality of the world.
It's very healthy to change ones mind when being challenged with data and the truth.
Minds unable to bend to reality, regardless of their skepticism, are simple minds.
So don't praise skepticism for the sake of skepticism.
I don't know why I still watch stuff like this. I think it's going to be funny, but every time it just upsets me more than anything.
what do you mean "what's the harm". teaching other people bullshit is harmful.
Entertaining and well made. Calling yourself a "Flat Earther" carries heavy social cost, so it's worth considering why anyone would.
The host says:
In a sense, one could claim that Flat Earth theory makes it possible for these theists to deny sincerely considering an atheistic worldview. But what about the atheist and agnostic flat earthers? This is the strange thing about flat earth's appeal- for them the appeal is the exact opposite- that it allows them to deny sincerely considering a religious worldview. They reject a naturalistic explanation for the nature of our seemingly fine tuned universe, while also finding a theistic worldview untenable. An example of this is Eric Dubay, a popular YouTube Flat Earther who also has very popular content denying Jesus ever existed. Watching his Flat Earth documentary really makes this reading very clear. Here is my straw man atheist flat earther:
Imagine being SO desperate to feel unique and special that you deny a fundamental scientific truth. It's like a 50 year old that still believes in Santa.
Hey that's me!
The part where he was talking about space helmet was pretty funny.
So either the flat austronaut would return and say that the earth is flat, or he would return and be told that he's wrong because the glass was curved, because he was seeing the edge of the disk, because his eyes are round or whatever.
Literally no winning.
Every single one of these people came out of a dark period in their lives, I bet you. They're monumentally stupid, but they also seem very nice and are just looking for something "alternative" to belong to. There's zero, literally zero, concrete, factual evidence for what they believe, but they're still rocking out and finding a new and pretty unique way to feel special and accepted. It's almost strangely harmless. Basically, I feel sorry for massive weirdos.
I don't get the "cosmic clock" argument. The total solar cycle is approximately 364.25 days long. The lunar phase cycle is about 27.30 days long. If God intended to make a timekeeper out of the celestial spheres, He did a shitty fuckin job of it.
