Chan Gailey rumor Georgia Tech meanwhile 20 and 10 is the all time Bowl record that ties for the best winning percentage in bowls all time with Penn State at 667 well other bold news and it continues to be potentially bad news for top running backs Maryland as they get set to take on Florida the FedEx Orange Bowl may be without their best running back Bruce Perry at practice Thursday he kind of aggravated a pulled abdominal muscle region worried he might not be a hundred percent you can see the impact that perry had 1200 rushing yards 113 a game he was tenth in the NCAA we talked about this in the pregame show it follows a pattern top running backs not available in the bowl game Luke's a Lee of course injured Travis Zachary dismissed by Terry's brother for the game up at Boise Joe burns obviously out of the game you just watched toe field with the navel not be there for the Tigers and not J Davenport had foot surgery he's gonna be out of the game as well for Miami so witness at end I mean Bruce Perry the latest perhaps to join this line and this would be a tough loss for Maryland because you look at all the BCS games all the BCS games out there this one looked like the biggest mismatch no matter what Maryland does there's just too much talent on Florida's team then you take Bruce Perry 1200 yards their top tailback you take him out of the equation they need ball control they cannot control the ball and keep them off the field if he gets out of the game I think it's a tremendous loss but I also think that when you look at some of the other game to talk about Miami losing Davenport that's a tremendous loss for them he is a key player for them he leads the full-back lead for them he takes care of Portis inside great blocker picking up the Blitz Ascan catch the boy out of the backfield Chris I think losing Davenport is an understated loss that people won't necessarily recognize off of that you're absolutely right you said all the things that he does that don't necessarily show up in the stats we'll have to see how the cans can cope without Nigel Davenport well we've had four upsets in the first five bowl games that kind of bodes well for Iowa State the Cyclones the underdogs against Alabama down in Shreveport as we join rich Walt's and Mark May for a preview guys all right thanks Chris you're right you know the Crimson Tide out of the SEC they're only six and five they won their last three games to get here Iowa State seven and four are the big 12 but maybe a lack of respect for Iowa State as they come in with something to prove the mark when we talk to Alabama and their coaches about this matchup one topic kept coming up Seneca Wallace the quarterback for Iowa State amazingly Alabama told us they haven't seen anybody quite like him this year well the teams that they faced in the SEC most of the quarterbacks are drunk but Seneca Wallace adds that different dimension he can pull the ball down and run with it he averaged over four yards per carry but here's the key he controlled the ball on the run he's accurate as any quarterback around what does he mean to Iowa State head coach Dan McCarney he answered he's made lots and lots and lots of big plays for us he can hurt you with his feet and his arm one of the real amazing things and I think one of the one of the reasons I knew we had somebody real special was over at Nebraska when we got off to a bad start he threw a couple interceptions one for a touchdown and he came back in the second half and got really really better and improved in that second half against the Blackshirts against one the top defenses in college football led us to a couple of long drive scoring drives and I knew we had something special in Seneca Wallace you know I think his ability to run and to throw it this is a very balanced Iowa State offense they definitely are and they're tough to defend and you know this is key this is the future the quarterback position everyone knows it if you can have a guy that's mobile that controlled a ball accurately you're going to involve him and I think this is the type of quarterback that Dennis Franchione e wants for his for his Alabama team is the type of guy he had in Casey printers at TCU this is the guy I think he would like to have in his program but that's what he wants down the road he does not have that now but Andrews Al's done a magnificent job of throwing the football and the last three games as a filler Andrews out has led his team to victory so that's the type of quarterback he has now can run with the ball but he's not a guy that's a floor floor guy that could take it take it all the way speaking of victories Alabama's got a lot of them in bowl games a rich bold tradition right Heather Cox certainly so rich no other team has played in more bowl games or one more bowl games than the Crimson Tide two Mark's Alabama's record 50 first ball appearance Iowa State meanwhile has played in just five bowls and didn't win until a year ago however the Cyclones are not intimidated and are unmoved by past glories in fact defensive tackle Jordan Karstens told me hey Iowa State is not playing Alabama's tradition we're just lining up against the other 11 players on the other side of the ball we can't and won't be intimidated by their tradition or the fact that hey we came in with a better record but we're underdogs in this ball game all right thanks Heather and Chris we get the sense from both coaches and both of these teams that this football game means a lot more than your average bowl game Alabama and I would stay Chris back to you Thank You Cyclones had the right idea they're not gonna be intimidated by the past and Paul Brian's teams but still the name Alabama would be one of the bigger wins in their history you'd rarely see this team on television and at the times they were on television this year they're getting slapped around us a pretty good team so they need to kind of show up and and play well in a national televised oh they do I think the fact that Andrews al has got the starting nod there's not a question whether you have Andrews out or Tyler watts he'll give them a more versatile off it's they can throw the ball now and run but don't underestimate their defense they give up under 20 points a game and their defense is gonna be strong tonight did you say defend a fan 29 points a game how about defense Iowa State my old pal Mark May didn't have much to say about the Iowa State guys mark you know you got to talk about defense here in Iowa State take aways +12 this season in the top ten doing that they got a chance to do something kind of stuff those big linemen from having a big day only lost two fumbles this year I always say look they don't kick the field goes well that would worry me in a bowl game against a pretty close match up you get the freshman Tony young beyond 30 yards he's 4 of 13 ouch ma'am you girly you got to get down to the 10 yard line to feel about getting points on the drive I mean that's tough in a bowl game well we want to update the interim coaches having success in bowl games story we talked about in the pregame show you could add Mack McWhorter now at Georgia Tech as the jackets have just defeated Stanford if you're just tuning in and it follows a pattern we've seen this in recent years how do you account for that because you would think some of the staff might be in disarray some of the team might not feel comfortable with the new guy coming in this disproves des lieux Chris if you look at these inner of coaches most of them had already found out they had gotten the jobs of the staff was pleased they were exciting and they were trying to make their first game a positive one Mac McWhorter he didn't get offered the job but he was told he might have a chance for it that had the same effect on this staff well not only the staff I think the players clearly care about him and they wanted to give him something good especially when they played real hard for him you saw that emotion after the goal line stand when Stanford did not get in on four tries that team rose up and I think from that point on Georgia Tech's players were inspired Chris in the ball game and I think it's because of their not to be head coach well what does this say ad should do if you get a bullet but they'd have a disappointing your fire the coach of the interim down once again to the Alabama I always take in that game just a few minutes away and Georgia Tech gets it done as they beat Stanford Freddy Malins next on deck and Capital fixed rates and no telemarketing your wallet and welcome back Alabama and I always say coming up from Shreveport very shortly in the meantime the BCS championship game the Rose Bowl Nebraska and Miami both teams are now in Southern California Cornhuskers came out earlier spent the holiday in the LA area Miami is now safely in LA and practicing at the Coliseum for a update on both teams let's go to Shelley Smith while Nebraska has spent the last few weeks deflecting BCS questions should they or shouldn't they be here playing for the national championship the Miami Hurricanes have almost quietly gone about their business as the undisputed number one team in the country we're just glad to say that we don't have to go through the same thing that Nebraska did this year you know having to wait and not being able to control our own destiny and not knowing if we're gonna go or well or if we're gonna go so this year we're you know we just took care of business and I don't feel they feel any type of pressure you know they've been able to make it through their season undefeated you know they're certainly on top of the polls where they should be but the Hurricanes are far from being complacent about they're perched atop the rankings all it took was being reminded about the 1986 Miami team ranked number one in the country playing for the national championship only to be knocked off by eighth ranked Tennessee former Dolphins wide receiver Lamar Thomas a member of that team spoke to the case before they left Miami as he came in and talked to us and just told us how you know they had a lot of talent that year and they relied so much on on their talent and really didn't take care of business and I went up there and just you know had a good time and didn't really think about the game just up there you know or just be Miami they're gonna be able to win it and he just told us not to do not to think that way and just to have fun and just do what we've done all season yeah sometimes it's easy to get into that mindset but for us coming down here we knew that it's gonna be hard work you know there's nothing else that we can do but work hard and get ready to go play to this from the national championship especially the fifth year seniors that went through from a 5 & 6 years it'll be loving to know now and Sabina you know blowing from rock bottom to the top of mouth and it's a great feeling and everybody understands that and we've let that note of the younger guys when they understand it both team spent the bulk of the afternoon at Disneyland after what both teams called good solid to our practices in the morning Miami got some big-time good news literally as six foot nine 337 pound offensive tackle bryant mckinney practice for the first time since injuring his knee against Virginia Tech he is expected to start in Los Angeles I'm Shelley Smith ESPN well Miami can hardly feel complacent they had real scares in two of the last four games in Nebraska rarely are the Cornhuskers given this little a chance to win they are inspired by that Ivy's very little chance of either team kind of messing around and losing a focus these are two very businesslike team so at least these coaches know what doing this kind of game they've been assistants at these kind of games they know what to do you set the rules down you make them clear and you tell the players what the punishment is going to be you say listen give us your mornings give us your mornings as hard of work as you can give us we'll give you the afternoons and finally rod dadgum fun is overrated the winner of this thing yeah that's true and to certainly send I think that's right but I think even more so than that the players have to take responsibility and show some leadership and I think you'll find that I think you'll find ear Crouch take charge of this team and let them know that they're in a position to get a championship and Reed from Miami he's a leader of that defense I expect him to probably take charge and remind the guys early in the week hey we're not here to have fun well there would be plenty of fun if they walk up with the ring yeah yeah but Miami is a team that really hadn't they've survived their scares but they really haven't trailed only 10 minutes so they've been behind all season long at a six hundred and sixteen minutes and under Brassica wants to stay in the game early maybe to get a lead maybe the Hurricanes will tighten up and that's Nebraska's best hope anyway we are counting down to Iowa State with Seneca Wallace Steve big 12 newcomer of said to take on Alabama down in Shreveport the mainstay independence ball coming up very shortly [Music] it's beautiful yeah thanks for all your help my job [Music] we start now yes player diaries and all kind of good stuff on espn.com and Washington one of the storylines going into that game was gonna be pac-10 oh and two with USC and now Stanford going down rod you got those explained well just not Owen - it's worse than that Chris can I explain I don't think so but when you fella find that the pac-10 can't score in these ball games that is really surprising to see the lay off obviously hurting them but if the pac-10 is gonna be considered one of the top conference's only - it's not a good start Preston's gonna mount for Washington and Oregon Terry to get something going for the pac-10 yeah it's because of Georgia Godsey George cause he had to go without Joe burns no running game a one-dimensional offense he took the weight on his shoulders had a great game mostly didn't make mistakes came through led them to a good game already come right back Alabama and Iowa State the Maine State Independence ball when you come as NSA would tries to run through that for everyone stay fuzzy save the world choices nation survive the Crimson Tide go on the football field for the last time under head coach Bear Bryant [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Iowa State Bar Salomon ah the cyclone storm of the Shreveport with dangerous offensive threats in Hannah's Haywood and Seneca Wallace first-year coach Dennis Franchione his crew is reborn after a three game win streak and the tie whether to form the mainstay independence [Music] earlier this afternoon Dennis Franchione II has led Alabama back to a ballgame Shreveport Louisiana they've got jambalaya here and they've got the base to the independence ball Dan McCarney at Iowa State has done what many said was impossible he has turned Iowa State around his second straight ball appearance and a lot of folks from Ames Iowa Tuscaloosa will be here tonight the mainstay independence for Alabama Iowa State first Chris Fowler Richard the jambalaya tastes better when the snowflakes are not falling in the kettle the weather much nicer than last year's independence ball I always say it rod to me the defense has to step up Nebraska scored 48 Kansas State 42 Colorado 40 against this team they had to fight for some respect of it they do it though those teams ran for 957 yards total against the Iowa State defense they do have to step up but they got a bigger problem too because Andrew zal the quarterback I think will come out throwing the ball down the field to loosen them up a little bit and then they'll pound away and I think that's a problem for Iowa State if they're gonna get this thing done at all Terry I think that's an issue for them not Alabama the story is coach Dennis Franchione at midseason he was three and five he was on the ropes then he wins three straight especially beating Auburn at Auburn 31 to seven the biggest win since 1977 he's got to get this bowl to keep that momentum going I agree with you six and five is okay they knew it was gonna be a transition you're beating Auburn is great but there's not much respect in the SEC for a program like Iowa State I think he wants to finish off with a seven and Chris you gotta remember and that's not gonna be good enough next year he's got to go to eight or nine or ten next year all right the Maine say independence poll is coming up Iowa State and Alabama rich and company will take it when you come back and we'll see at halftime with more Bowl talk on Capital One Bowl week enjoy the first half ESPN's exclusive presentation of the 2001 mainstay Independence Bowl is brought to you by Sonic America's drive-in by bell descent famine bowling Iowa State is led by the electric Seneca Wallace one of the big twelves best salary Wallace meet next they will meet here tonight in Shreveport go week stops in Shreveport or the mainstay independence ball we've got some big 12 we've got some SCC we've got a good matchup Alabama comes in at six and five Iowa State at seven and four hi everybody I'm rich Waltz along with Mark Bay welcome to Shreveport and you know what I think that's what Dennis branch Oney said to his team when they walked off the bus welcome to Shreveport welcome back to a bowl game getting them here in his first year I think was a big step for his program it definitely was and what he had to do is get his players to buy-in this team was in total disarray when he took over and one of the most important players that had to buy in was senior quarterback Andrew Zhao he's the career touchdown leader and total yards gator in Alabama history and if you think that's not a big deal look at the litany of players on this list of quarterbacks that played for Alabama Joe Namath Kenny Stabler Richard Todd's those are some of the Great's of all time a quick turnaround for Alabama to get back it took a while for Dan McCarney to get Iowa State here but boy has he they went to a bowl game last year they wanted their first win ever at that is a huge accomplishment one of the reasons they're back this year Seneca Wallace his quarterback and he's been magnificent at the quarterback position not just throwing the football but also running with the football he's averaged over four yards of carry and he's most dangerous when he breaks out of the pocket ok we've talked quarterbacks let's talk running backs Heather Cox ball rich Alabama certainly has the best rushing team in the SEC especially with the return but Santonio beard who was reinstated following a mid season and DUI arrest and who joins forces with Ahmad Galloway to form one of the most potent backfield in the country beard rushed for two touchdowns in the win against Auburn but it's not played since then a layoff of nearly six weeks but Galloway is coming off back-to-back 100-yard games and carries the ball very well now rich Alabama is 10th in the nation in rushing yards per game Iowa State is tenth in its conference in rushing defense no surprise Alabama will try to get the ball in the hands of its two back attack all right Thank You Heather and Heather was happy to find out as Chris Fowler pointed out no snow this year last year it snowed for the first time in eight years in Shreveport tonight no snow 52 degrees temperature dropping and the wind not much of a factor right now about a 4 mile an hour swirl two independent stadium which has been enlarged this year the capacity now of over 50,000 they expect a large crowd over 20,000 from Alabama coming in a little over 10,000 from Iowa State those fans making the trip to Shreveport Iowa State won the toss Dan McCarney said we want football and they'll get it Alabama of course winning their final three games to get here to get to six and five Iowa State beat their cross-state rivals Iowa to deliver themselves at seven and four lane Bearden the junior ready to kick it [Applause] to the 34-yard that's where Iowa State will put it in play Seneca Wallace we talked about him he is he's got a lot of weapons he can run he can throw and when he turns around he's got a fabulous running back he can give the ball to in his Haywood and he's not very flashy but what he'll do has a lien for it for that extra yards and he always gets four or five yards a carry it's a team that will run some speed option and mark they'll go multiple you'll see three receivers a lot of looks for this Iowa State offense [Applause] Seneca Wallace last year was quarterback in Sacramento City junior college kid 12 newcomer of the year made quite a splash walls rolling and he's down to the 26 red candle the senior is what Seneca Wallace can bring you in rich that's why he's so dangerous with the his hands defensive coordinator for Alabama whoever's told us he wants to keep this turning back Seneca Wallace in the pocket here's the replay this is what he does so well he just flicks the ball therefore the huge gain for the offensive Iowa State that's what they want to prevent is getting him out of the pocket Iowa State comes off right off the bat 39 yard Wallace to Campbell shoulda Haywood by the Alabama defense Iowa State's offensive line look at the biggest player out there Marcel the cellblock Howard he's one of the biggest players on their line six six three twenty he is the reader against an active 4-3 defense up front Jarrett Johnson is someone you'll see a lot of tonight and he's had an outstanding year particularly the last four games he's been there the most productive defensive tackles in the SEC it's a four three speed rush look they've got lots of speed and the linebacker and on the defensive ends with Kendall Moorhead Wallace swing back he was looking for Jamal Montgomery Alabama slime backers very very good specially in the middle you're not very big but they're very quick and Celine Rashid is their league the secondary has only six interceptions this season that's one area that Carl tore Bush and his head coach Dennis Franchione II would like to see improve play in tonight's Dixon emboldened the outside miles and bacon the safety third down first possession on the Alabama 29 woloson trouble steps through it to the 25 that Wallace is at crunch to 20 short of the first down [Applause] Brooks Daniels the sophomore linebacker got any and this is the other dimension at Seneca Worcester here he feels that he but he has the ability when he steps up to run the ball they'll take it right down the teeth of the defense in the middle of the defense and picked up this much yards plausible that's another reason why they want to keep him in the bucket I mean that I mean the Alabama defense they want him set in the pocket throwing the ball downfield a redshirt freshman kicker who also Punk's this is a real rarity in college football Tony yell 8 of 18 this year is long from 47 this from 36 boys certainly got into that one it's gonna hit Dan McCarney cyclones wanted the ball they got the ball and they're on the board say Independence Bowl underway Iowa State up three nothing lead [Music] [Applause] you you Japanese are expecting a war now a DD Nvidia history comes alive we have to strike the heart of Japan the way they have hit us Pearl Harbor own it now on DVD and video you just got during nights and weekends on plants starting at just $19.99 you also get a deal on a Nokia phone and that is pretty cool singular wireless what do you have to say [Applause] Tony yelled from 36 yards in Iowa State has the first score in this independence ball three nothing lead for the Cyclones Dan McCarney very serious about this week mark they came down here or no walkthroughs Iowa State this week no they took it seriously when I played for the Washington Redskins and we went to Super Bowls but you know gives our head coach took it seriously when we got there it was full pads he wanted everybody counts to the hit so when you got on the field of play there is no surprise you're just as physical or more physical than the opposition full pads lots of hitting for Iowa State and Tony Elka's pumped up a redshirt freshmen hit the field goal and he tracks this one through the end zone and Alabama gets their first possession Andrew Zhao is freshman sophomore junior year a starter but this year Tyler watts started but Andrews out of the bullpen led him to three consecutive wins he's got some some weapons behind him and in front of him Freddie millons is his big big play receiver and Freddy Malins is more of a possession receiver 152 receptions in his career deal time Alabama those numbers and they're not that impressive but remember he's only started two games and Alabama was started on the ground go away to big fields my Galloway the Junior forty nine yards on Alabama's first play Iowa State ripped off 39 Alabama 29 outstanding job by all offensive line particularly Justin smiling the quick guard pulling around getting his block a little full technique on the inside but it's a mod gallery breaking the tackles and heading down the field picking up deposit [Music] Galloway 80 yards a game third in the sec shotgun for Zhou or the middle linebacker came in hot and the junior out of Miami has a big center Alabama's offensive line pretty darn good but really young they start three redshirt sophomores on this line they only averaged three hundred-pound and less Kenny the offensive coordinator tools they're gonna get bigger yeah four three look for John's Glen a knee the coordinator for Iowa State not a big play defensive line they allow the linebackers to make the play as you saw with Matt word but they replaced all four starters from last year's group all those players went to the NFL sow option pitch ray Hudson mark Timmons the free safety came up to get him linebackers for Iowa State by the playmakers you've already seen that word and he's outstanding a hundred and six ties around to the ball he is their leader on a decent design of the safeties are outstanding tackles as well you saw Timmons on that play adam rohnke is the heart and soul of this defense Boston on the outside with Luis [Applause] ow [Applause] [Music] [Applause] at midfield by sand pawns but it'll be well short of the first down merge this is more or less a statement game for Iowa State playing the big boys the Alabama's they want to step up and make big plays they've been flying all over the field to play and Andrews out rolling to his right trying to get away from the pursuit he does and throws the ball on the run we have two outstanding quarterbacks that can throw the ball on the run but it's that defense and pursuit look at all those red jerseys from Iowa State collapsing Ronald [Applause] Iowa State's defense one of the better defenses out of the big 12 Blaine Bearden the King Wagner will watch it land at the 10 and roll inside the five and Alabama will cover it at the three 3-nothing their ball when we get back [Music] they all keeps me closer to people I love I have a best friend that lives in Denver with AOL I talked to her every day friends go to hay a.com for special low fares on American Airlines and American Eagle the Shreveport Bossier City area the riverboats an inside independent stadium Iowa State with a long ways to go but a three nothing lead [Applause] this is a situation you're gonna see there's a we are doing the pounding and yet not much room to run back to the three Iowa State has been very successful this year when they control the football and they control the clock that's what they like to do is calm the ball status bloody time position 8 out of 11 games this season that's what they like to do they like to control it line up that big running back in the backfield and hitch in the mouth of control of a clock in the limestone 511 220 and he came back bigger this year gained some weight and keep the sweet [Applause] there's the speed on display he's out across the 10 to the 11 Brooks Daniels the sophomore linebacker got him what a wonderful job of visiting bye eNOS hey watch this he's going to take the bottle left and look at the cutback Lane great seal blocking by the offensive line but allowing him to see the backside blogs to come out of Dallas Texas this is a much shorter drive for his mom who's a postal worker in Dallas she was making the drive up to Ames Iowa to watch him play every other week I'm happy to be intrigued form we're down into [Applause] you achieved the myth the play and it's not enough for the first down Selim Rashid the junior at Birmingham [Music] streets the speed and alabang they're not very big on defense but they have tremendous speed Celine Russia 215 eleven he's gonna follow the quarterback Wallace look at his eyes can also help break out to the flat that's just lateral quickness of getting from point A to point B to make the phone [Applause] Tony Yelp the redshirt freshman good booming kick Freddy millons [Applause] his character 35 spooled back to the 32 deandre phillips a 54-yard punt the Culligan Holiday Bowl this Friday Texas and Washington an 8:30 Eastern start and it's Virg Friday mark I know you're gonna be logged on to the espn.com for this one Texas and Washington what is Virg Friday well they're gonna have real-time coaching analysis on espn.com Jim Donna's got Washington dick Tommy's got Texas user email and interactive broadcast for the Culligan Holiday Bowl Zelo is hired incomplete second and ten [Applause] I think it's a great decision by Texas head coach Mack Brown starting major Applewhite here's a cute entire career didn't get a chance to start because of Chris Simms starting quarterback and that story is a lot like this story you see the last three games for Andrews AO Tyler watts was the starter until game Hangzhou in wins three in a row and from three and five to six in five here's Alabama in a burger Donnie lo the cub of the iqari he doesn't hold care of the ball much as only as 20th carried this year Galloway and Santonio beard who we haven't seen yet you're trying to create penetration against the big [Music] here's a statement on the point the highest state wants to make and right now [Applause] Jason Mehcad lien motion and sound the sidelines the dive by Mehcad Lee let's see if he came close did not [Music] let's just sound defense by Iowa State getting to the ball the pursuit to get to the football his teeth Iowa State they're gonna try to put first runs out it's not there but get to the football this is key if you can't make a tackle push them out of bounds and Alabama has to kick Laimbeer 47 yarder which died at the three Michael Wagener who tried to make him catch on this one he's lined up right at the 10 it normally has good hang time this one pushed to the right and they'll mark it at the 26-yard line mark me I'm not sure where you were last year I was born I know you weren't at the Independence Bowl last year Texas and Mississippi State Mississippi State blocked this kick in overtime that was an extra point they returned it for two and scored to win it 4341 it snowed a punch the entire game that was one of the best games to watch from my living for some reason this game few years has been a very very Wallace there's the speed option he's at across the 35 to 37 yard line it's a big 12 SEC matchup and a lot of times you get programs that are on the rise that want to make a statement and think we have that here tonight and I think definitely so and you look at the team like in Iowa State and what Dan McCarty's been able to do with this program here in here the big kicker for him is to beat Iowa they've been able to accomplish in four years in the world their in-state rivalry but this program has gotten better I think a key to that is he gonna get food from sage Rosenfeld's last year now transitioning to send up the long session that was teaching school the boys had great running backs at Iowa State when the carnies tenure at first and ten this is Wagner out to the 38 yard line and we talked about quarterbacks in the big 12 you think that the Heisman Trophy Eric Crouch but look at this total yards per game Seneca Wallace is ahead of Eric Crouch Kliff Kingsbury from Texas Tech is the leader of the big 12 conference but here you're talking about a first-year quarterback right out of junior college and that's what's most impressive on Seneca Wallace when we break down the tape and rope down the tape I was impressed with this when he turns the corner he's got the speed of a tailback but then he's so accurate throwing the football that's what you see you see he started his career at Oregon State and then transferred back to Sacramento City June he's on the money there girl class midfield and Iowa State has another first and it's a gain of 14 yards bridge that's exactly the actors save the ball he's so smoothly so food when he rolls out of the pocket just as what we lose to the left he saw sneaking food and that's a tough account but the theory moves to the right was most impressive you see coaches try to coach players when they rolled on the left to slow it down stop him through the bar keep the ball Iowa State coaches told us they weren't quite sure what that had they knew he was good they didn't know he would be this good and he has really impressed this year and inside the 45 to the 44 yard line five-yard pickup in the offense that they're running is a bit different from the last year with Rosenfeld it didn't run as much speed option did they no they didn't he was more of a drop with sympathy lawlessness offensive it makes a lot easier for NSA with a particular shark because most of the defensive backs non-diverse perky non quarterback sometimes on second down Belem incompletes wit ver the intended receiver [Applause] maybe the defensive coordinator for because basically the only time that quarterbacks center for look comfortable the tour Bush said he hasn't seen anyone quite like braless in this conference but of course Charlotte North Carolina and North Carolina stayed for a year saw some guys in the ACC he thought is were comparable to Wallace I thought Woodrow Dantzler was just that type of quarterback he thinks Santa Claus has more speed that saying something shotgun blitz coming on third and five it's over Tony Carl tour-bus Campbell's event blitzes Iowa State's gonna have to kick back in will paid off that was a nice designed play blitzed on the screen this thing was there it was open the quarterback Santa Claus didn't have a chance to sit drop the ball we've seen an awful lot of Tony yell call ready he's been impressive when he fills [Applause] you can think dan McCarty's father-in-law for yoke being on campus his father-in-law lives up the Madison Wisconsin scouted this kid in high school kept sending Dan tapes dan finally said I know watching he did because this redshirt freshman is a field goal kicker in a punter has been fabulous this season and tonight Iowa State a three nothing lead this is Cartoon Network Samurai Jack The Powerpuff Girls scooby-doo TCU the Gallery Furniture dot-com Bowl at 1:30 Boston College Georgia the Music City ball at 5:00 Texas Washington Okanagan Holiday Bowl at 8:30 Capital One Bowl II back in Shreveport Iowa State up three nothing early now Alabama's plain without starting wide receiver Antonio Carter who was one of four players deemed academically ineligible for this game in his spot is a sophomore who doesn't have as much experience tran dos Luke gets the stir in Carter's spot that Alabama thinks that thanks to the flexible system they won't lose much with Kaoru thanks Heather they're backed up right now down the way across the climb out to the 10 to the 11 that's all part of coach Franz holding his program accountable it's one of the things mark he said when he got to Alabama he wanted to make the players accountable for their mistakes and drawing the line academic wise it's something we see during the the layoffs from the end of the regular season to the bowl season a lot of times the players don't finish what they start academically the players were looking for direction when he got them he gave him a sense of purpose and direction and that's what discipline they need to be taught and worked and shown where to go and what to do suck it in short we'll keep it on the ground with Galloway and it's a first [Music] which I think now that Alabama's figured it out there we can run on this defense if we continue to pound the ball and that sequence of plays you just saw them line up and just feature out the mouth Dean I hate to think of spring a big play during the game I think the back that's going to do is probably seem to appear he's got that before his people he had the scene [Applause] so far first in team zone on the pitch out to the 20 [Applause] well there's Santonio beard for the first time what's different about beard as opposed to galloway but you've got to mr. inside and that's the mod Galloway he's more of a power guy he's a smart guy and picking up pasture tection he's just more equipped to do that because he's been able to do that throughout his career but then you look at the San Antonio beard and you just drool when you see an athlete like this he's got the ability every time to touch at the ball take it to the outside make something happen and making super happens taking it all the way from school his biggest game was in Alabama's biggest game this year the I'm Bowl win over Auburn he went for a hundred and 99 yards on just 20 carries he's now gonna put it up it's incomplete it'll bring up third down and about five and Roussel has to be a little bit more patient on in this play had his receiver where he want him to coverage personnel fry will state down the field to play but he throws it too early watch he's not being pressured on this play play-action fake he can stand in the pocket then he sets intro if he waits another campus second two trailers football he's gonna have a chance to complete this point [Applause] third down five we read on a blitz Mehcad lead attach at the 27 it's enough for the first down for Alabama [Applause] you have to be impressed with the athleticism the calm and the cool and Piedras out here he is in the pocket Matt words on the Blitz right in his face and he stands tall turns and wings the ball to the outside and that's arm strength he didn't put everything into that his feet were set like a quarterback speak should be but he's got the arm strength to throw that out and get the ball and complete it to Jason the catalog sadly is the speed guy in this Crimson Tide wide receiver crew Harold clueless the corner who is covering Mehcad Lee was shaken up on the play he's on his way to the Iowa State's Island there's a look at Mehcad Lee's numbers two touchdowns on 18 catches those clueless he'll step out [Applause] sophomore Johnny Smith steps into his spot [Applause] Alabama started this drive back [Music] [Applause] [Applause] jeordy Karstens second time Iowa State has brought down sound complete penetration by Jordan Carson's getting through the blockers here he is to the left the screen he just fights between two blockers nolan blocks 1578 are saying you got him know you've got a Alonso up from the center and Justin smiling the guard they're supposed to slide to that to help each other who they just left them one-on-one and Jordan closes in a minute [Applause] the defensive coordinator happy with that this is good great pursuit by Iowa State and they dropped Santonio beard back to the 17 yard line Brandon Brown the freshman out of Houston and again Matt word it on the stop thus far in this game he's probably been the most impressive defensive player upon the field sideline to sideline glitches the quarterback anything to the outside from his middle linebacker position he's able to track down and track down when all of a sudden Iowa State is stopping the Alabama rushing attack further than 20 again for Alabama goes down the line of scrimmage though not near the hit but Eve Austin had to take on the big tight end Terry Jones jr. beholding them ACC crew you'll get in all the bowl games crews from different conferences [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Dennis Franchione II worked out all week in this stadium rather than go to a high school or a different field he wanted to practice on this artificial grass the a stroke play because Alabam had not been on it before Wagner from his 34 [Applause] and Wagner gets back to the 40 six yard return [Applause] Capital One Bowl week continues Texas A&M and TCU tomorrow 1:30 Eastern on ESPN Dennis Rancho knees old team Gary Patterson Casey printers they had a strong finish and beat Southern Miss to get themselves bowl eligible in Texas A&M looking for a bowl win and that's not something that the southern division of the big 12 has done a whole lot of Texas A&M is Owen for in bowl games since they joined the big 12 Cawood close to midfield nine yard pickup talk about sunblock and on the right-hand side of the line for Iowa State hitting it and getting it Lorenzo white reported at three hundred and sixty pounds when he first came to Iowa State late 20 pounds last year and he's probably the biggest surprise of this offensive line this offensive team they didn't think he could play he played every down of every game last year twelve of them including the bowl game and this year hasn't missed many stabs and he's probably the biggest surprise of this office because he's very durable very powerful to target time pay it again this time to the 44 yard line it's a big offensive line you talked about white then you've got the cell block Marcel Howard who comes into 320 Bob Montgomery the guard at 310 wide at 341 then the little piglet in the middle Zac Butler he's just a little baby tonight he needs to get the training table just a little bit more you know a lot of these guys as you pointed to have developed in the program they didn't come in highly touted in fact Howard who is probably their best offensive line was a walk-on that's what I like to see guys that burned from the bottom to top Wallace that's a difficult throw and mid it nicely craig Campbell the catch at the 34 yard line [Applause] Iowa State on the move their defense has been doing it in the books from Shreveport 3-nothing Iowa State Sunday NFL countdown Sunday mornings at 11 and go overboard mainstay Independence Bowl in Shreveport Iowa State on top three nothing in our ESPN game track the story of this one so far opening possession a nice drive finished by Tony elk and a 36-yard field goal the story though has been the defense penetration hitting first ranked quarterback Andrews out that's been key the defense of Iowa State on the move Wallace a little end-around Danielson inside the 10 to the 1 the Danielson on a speed option turned into a reverse 33 yards of the carriage it's almost like a play like this you want to give him the touchdown but what an outstanding job of disguising his play blocking on the backside and watch Lane D so make the cut right here that's phenomenal keep his balance she does go down but look at their Greek defender is keeping their eye on Seneca Wallace that's what sets this play off that allows Lane days and to get to the outside and make this run towards the goal line that's an outstanding executed play when you're gonna want to play as restate was to take trickeration that's the way to execute no trickeration here just straight ahead running with Joe Woodley the full-back he thinks he's in officials haven't signal yet he's in touchdown [Applause] it took them a while to call it only the sixth carry all year for Woodley and his third touchdown of the year that's key when you've got a guy that can smell the goal line a fullback that can take the ball to the promised land that's what you do he doesn't have to carry it all the time but when you get inside that 3 yard line you want to give it to a Hoss and that's cool [Applause] yell quit the extra point Iowa State said they wanted to come out and smack Alabama right in the mouth and you know what they've done just that the Cyclones lead attend nothing [Applause] [Music] introducing the new long-lasting scent of Bob bob showers with new zest rain forest falls the cleaner rinsing lather leaves off feeling fresh and clean long into the day college sense an intelligent wait is saved for college [Music] Shreveport Louisiana a lot of folks have come from Ames Iowa and across Iowa down to this day they expected about 10,000 folks making that trip over 20,000 Alabama fans coming in from Tuscaloosa and parts of Alabama in the total yardage early on weighs heavily in Iowa State's favor a lot of that has to do with two players and to say what they're running back and particularly their quarterback and Seneca Wallace they work so well together that puts a lot of pressure an interesting alignment for this kick they could line up any way they want because Yelp basically is going to kick it deep in the end zone and it will be down for a touch Millions about seven or eight yards deep and in every phase of the football game offense defense special teams Iowa State looks very good tonight and I think a lot of that goes back to what we talked about earlier when Iowa State came in here they had the approach but they're serious about this game they practice and pads they Alabama didn't view practices wearing full bed during the heat of the battle you want your players cows I think Iowa State right now they're feeling it they're feeling good about themselves but a McCarty certainly wanted to set the tone defensively against a very good running team in Alabama [Applause] in 82 yards per game as Terry Bowden and Rodney Gilmore pointed out earlier tonight there have been some big nights against this Iowa State defense by running teams this year there definitely has three of those teams Kansas State Colorado Nebraska average 319 yards on the ground against this game and he thought that Alabama they're rushing to silver to Kansas State who went for 343 against Iowa State Nebraska went for 359 for 255 [Applause] second of seven vowels troll the middle caught at the 40 by Sam Collins 17 yards on the pickup for Alabama we talked about the improvement of this teams on the offensive side the ball that's the defensive side of the ball what they've been able to do look at the points every year it's gotten better and better sit that one year in 2000 but this year 21 points a game they're more of a bend but not break type defense they'll give up a lot of yards but not a lot of points John Slade ad told us he did not want to give up the 25-yard plays and we're going to give up first downs but we just don't want to give up that 2530 yard play consistently against Alabama [Applause] Santonio beard to the 46 yard line and Matt word and Jeremy Lloyd the two linebackers at on the stoppe Lloyd made the first hit with the Iowa State defense example of deals they're able get that eighth man the safety Adam ronk into the box you want to get eight in the box Jeremy Lord the outside backer through all playing well they're letting Alabama get through that first line of defense the defensive line but they're able to fill in with the secondary line [Applause] Alabaman has yet to stretch the field yet Brandon Brown another one of those young cyclones he's a freshman out of Houston not only Brandon brown but a teef Austin on the outside Brandon Brown takes as a quarterback this is a magnificent job coming up and taking Andrews out but on the outside watch right there my teeth Austin he's going to take the pitch away that's why Andrews out has to keep the football great cooperation between defenders knowing exactly how to play the option Alabama 1 of 4 on third down this a third and 4 [Applause] little screened melons as the first time and the playmaker for Alabama to the 38-yard line adam rohnke made the stop 16 yards they must get hit in the football more often this is a slip screen underneath the Frenchy millons what happens on this play when you're a wide receiver you have to make the first defender miss because you're out there one-on-one against the defense if you make the first defender miss right there you can pick up some yards nets Marc Timmons of free safety and what Freddie Mullins is able to do not a real fast guy but very quick and elusive and takes the ball downfield villains in motion get it to him on a reverse [Applause] with a stop and start and milling slips outside and that's what I want to get of the ball he doesn't really have the blazing speed but stopping and starting he's pretty darn good at that and not only that this place should be over I mean this place should be over Freddie No great decision for the ball of the career receptions leaver elevated but only six touchdowns that's a stomach it's amazing you 152 catches he was the playmaker we've just seen on these last two plays that he could make people miss it's amazing that he hasn't been in the end zone more often than would has been a pretty illustrious career at Alabama hundred and fifty two cancer's Galloway inside the 25 down to the 22 the Arve which I believe this Iowa State defense came into this game we're gonna sell out let's go one thing we will do is we will stop the run from that they're gonna run blitz early first down second down they're gonna make sure hey if they're beating this game this is a pretty good game plan but they're gonna have to do it through the year they're gonna put pressure on Andrews out two dudes from here so far they've done a great job of taking away the bread-and-butter that slammed play by Alabama between the guards villains and motions I will hit him laughter this time inside the 15 to the 14 Jason McCarthy with the block to spring melons for a nine yard pickup at an Alabama first down Alabama has found something that they can go after Iowa State's defense for the first quarter 53 yards this trial alone they put something together they finally feel a rhythm I think that rhythm is to get the ball to the outside that's fast weekend for Freddy Malins if you got to put him in motion he's got rickston three touches in the last four snaps for millions inside the ten to the eight mark Timmons made the stop the sophomore safety Justin Islands just blew through the hole that he missed Santonio beard was a nice move by San Antonio beer but I talked about this defense selling out they they're just throwing caution to the wind running through gas they don't care their responsibility this run dat gap there in the again they're making sure that this dirt didn't beat on the drive for long it's not their responsibility is because Alabama cynically form ciao touchdown [Applause] maybe a way to hear after the score one of the reasons Andrews out did not start this season or play through most of the season was because they felt Tyler watts was better at running the option and sow scores on an option run with the kick Alabama can draw within three in the way that he scored on this option the tremendous job at the point of the attack of collapsing the defensive fund of the Iowa State and it's just smart on the play that he fakes the pitch and then turns the corner that's just leadership that's senior leadership or being in an office and studying the playbook staying with your arms it was a late hit then we'll be marched off here on the point so the kick will come from a yard and a half closely [Applause] [Applause] and the kick is good andrewsl was the spark that sent Alabama to this ballgame and he's in the endzone for the Crimson Tide Shreveport Louisiana the business medical cultural sports an entertainment capital of an entire three state region one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in America it is at the first city of gracious southern charm and dynamic rich Waltz mark may Heather Cox in Shreveport Louisiana just where we talked about Iowa State's defense Alabama marches 80 yards andrews how finishes it from 8 yards out [Applause] and your motion [Applause] across the 25 to the 27 done by Andrews I'll watch the right side of the line and clean the tight end it gets an outstanding block to seal here that tied in there's Terry Jones on the outside all these players are working in unison hand to hand foot the foot get your blocks knock them down and that's an easy touchdown run for quarterback Andrews a excellent blocking at the point of the time [Applause] so both teams have been in the end zone there's your tribe villains had three touches on the tribe totaling 36 yards couple catches and a run on the reverse and Seneca Wallace back to work [Applause] nice pad to the 36 yard line for a first down for Iowa states Greg Campbell the senior Craig Campbell's his go-to man in the office here's a nice job of fighting the defender and turning for the ball but what's really impressive out this play Seneca Wallace stepping left and torn right across the Gary the grain Santonio beard the running back for Alabama's at an outstanding game his last time when he played the game before this ballgame a hundred ninety nine yards yeah he's a big man on campus the anytime you have a big big game against Auburn that's huge for 365 days you're a big man on campus Seneca Wallace does not like what he sees and he'll call a timeout [Applause] when he's on his way to the sidelines Iowa State a 10-7 lead over Alabama and a mainstay [Applause] winter extreme 6 in Aspen begins February 1st on ESPN 10 7 Iowa State on top of Alabama they say the Alabama is back in the pool where they weren't that far removed two years ago they went to the Orange Bowl but of course last year just a miserable year we lost their coach in midseason Dennis Franchione even his first year comes in at 6 and 5 Wallace play-action once a time dropped by Campbell his go-to guy owes him one he definitely does after that play that was a great job a first pass protection Seneca Wallace setting this play up but Craig Campbell has to catch this ball here it is a play-action pass he's looking left all the way Seneca Wallace and the ball this example and he's right in your hands catch it catch it he needs to look the ball in the Cenacle wall as he knows he had it he had a big play there had his receiver where he wanted his go-to guy put the ball where it needed to be but Craig Campbell just couldn't coming come down with a bang he'll go back to her one second attend [Applause] maybe Jared Johnson who had a marvelous season in the SCC first team all-sec pick where Derrick Johnson just penetration in the backfield shed the blocker in front of you and get to the back here he tackles them in the bathroom by the ankles that's a great play by 275 pound defensive tackle one pursuing the quarterback and getting to the quarterback and now stopping in the back his rescue since four points under hot dogs this year similar certificate and this is a very good defense they only have two seniors they'll be good next two as well [Applause] Wallis flush down don't sit off my Haywood at the 44 that was going to be short of the first time something Rasheed's wrong stop and that's a nice open field tackle by Cornelius wertham and Rashida the play on a play like that when you see the big fella and it's able to come out of the backfield you know in your quarterbacks in trouble he's gonna look short first I'm gonna see what was right there but both linebackers knew that underneath coverage of that loss dumped off you've got to make the tackle and they did [Applause] so Tony Yogi's back on he's had a couple of months he boomed a 53-yard his last one was a 41 yarder and it was down at the one 30 Millions waiting into 15 [Applause] [Music] I've headed towards the sidelines and again and then I skip by this redshirt freshman let's check in with Heather Cox Heather thanks rich I'm joined by Brian Lee president and CEO of mainstay know Brian since September 11th there's been a huge resurgence in patriotism in American spirit because of that what does it mean to have your name involved with the Independence Bowl well particularly because of the undefended Bowl as we've seen America's Spirit rise after September 11th the connection between our firm and the Independence Bowl has been particularly meaningful to us now you're a new york-based company what got you involved in a bowl game here in Shreveport in Shreveport of all places right let me tell you Shreveport is one of the greatest cities that I've ever visited they've they have such enormous respect for this bowl and they boil tea and the support here in the community to the independence ball we selected this particular bowl because it was able to take our our mutual fund line the mainstay fund line and put it in front of the national audience in a very positive way connected to the Independence Bowl so we're very excited and very honored to be a part of it Brian thanks so much we'll let you enjoy from the best seat in the house rich back to you thanks oh he's got to be happy he's better almost a full house ball game so far the six and a half minutes left first half Andrews on the auction to the 21 yard line and he's got another Alabama first down it was a drive like this that started from the one Sal his last time with an eight-yard touchdown on the option I think when you look at how a family manages often I think what that guy does he got the confidence back there's swagger back in that last drive that's why it looks like they have that confident in stride okay we're gonna run them against this defense we can [Applause] that genre Zeta the coming out of the bullpen so to speak and play so well speaks volumes not only about sau but about Dennis Franchione II because he managed it a two quarterback situation Watts was his starter salad in the store for almost three years and both of those quarterbacks bought into the system Henley then I think the smart approach was he made both own captains and I think that's key those guys captains no controversy on your team and both of these two players Tyler watts me Andrews out they like each other almost best friend one second amid Galloway to the 28 yard line we might see Tyler watts tonight lots of course had the the groin injury [Applause] and with two games left to the season Sal became the starter is AO relieved watts and the big win over Mississippi State and then went out and beat Auburn 31 7 then beat southern mentions all of the Lots they say the coin is okay a hundred percent [Applause] so now on the action close to the first down depending on where they market we had to get to the 31 that was a very nice job of Andrews out reading the defense he saw the red jerseys come after the Iowa State a lot of penetration in the backfield to take the ball tuck it up an attempt for the first down that's a great job you could have easily pitched that ball seeing all the other color yellow jerseys the opponent's jerseys but he kept the ball turned it up and that that play right there that option again is the reason that Dennis Panchali wotz originally at the start of the season we wanted that speed option in his offense you shotgun snap and it's a little high to his right when he's going to the left and a quarterback can't have that but that's one heck of an adjustment by Andrews out but he wants to go left and he know he's going left mentally and the ball snap to his right but that's a great adjustment of concentrating on the ball [Applause] [Music] 20:31 to the 37 yard line seven yards in the pickup Alabama was three and five at that juncture once there were a pretty good three in five mark they had some games those games have been lost there were games in their schedule the UCLA game was tied at three South Carolina they lost by a point old miss came back to Batum by three in Tennessee they had the lead in the fourth quarter lost that game they just have to learn to become better finishers but this is a young football team [Applause] and it's intercepted [Applause] this fifth of the season [Applause] what happens on this plate for auntie Xiao close it into double coverage and that's what caused the Alabama the interception on that play Iowa State will have it when we get back [Music] Ken Rosewall 18 Grand Slam championships rod laver 20 Grand Slam championships both our mainstay investors when you understand the game you invest of them come out of right those are city [Applause] 43 yards of the carry and the big fella at the end of this room looked like he was getting just a little bit tired but great blocking at the point of attack in the middle of the line and what is great about this plate the offensive line right here and they stayed with her blocks keep an eye on it little quick trap play watch and it's a one he's got to pick through it muddle through it the offensive line stays with the block he stays on his feet takes the ball down the field to play but right here here comes the piano on his back he's caught from behind by Herschel boy Wallace a quick drop delivers a strike to Jack whip fur and whip her goes flying into the Alabama band another first down for Iowa State Cyclones on the move a 10-7 lead will over two and a half left first half here in straight port and say I'm impressed by both of these football teams the fight with both of these football teams each team wants this game desperately what Iowa State's been able to do running the ball throwing the ball their offensive coordinator Steve Malone he's done a magnificent job putting together a great game plan for this team in the entire season bow state does they run the ball Jemaine Billups to the 17-yard on this chicken with Heather Cox the front 7 has been a strength for this Alabama defense but right now the emphasis from the defensive coaches is on tackling they said belt-buckle tackling is what we want right now don't look at anything else but the goal lines belt-buckle war all right we're into our game right now patience is what he's asking for team-high plate I wish the opposition looked to my belt bark again I won't put authority back that's just some terminology that you use as a defensive coordinator to get your guys to focus and stay long Haywood again you are one of the few offensive one will they quit too you recover with line which was obviously dubbed the Hogs sorry I knew that was coming I should have felt that one but a couple of these line and I don't know if they've seen their belt buckle Center toes for a while at 3:20 the big cell block over there has done a great job at left tackle the tripplehorns old white 341 and I like the weights it's 341 it's almost like gee you're a diet cook away from 360 if we really put you on the scale but you've gotten it down to the tree those pounds he dropped was not easy believe me when I was 299 and a half I was under [Applause] was it caught it was lame Danielson very close to the first down Seneca Wallace we focus so much on his mobility and running the option and his escape ability he looks very comfortable in the pocket as well he does and I'll tell you what you look at what Dan McCartney's caught he's caught lightning in the bottle with his quarterback I mean he don't get a junior college quarterback to come in the first year and perform as well as Seneca Wallace has been able to perform for this often got the first end and their traffic - Kiros he said hey we knew spring practices we won't sure I've been going back the one big game against Nebraska yeah they were down early and Wallace led him on to long touchdown drive spring practice I think is a key there as well he went from junior college and his grades in order at Iowa State went through spring ball and obviously it's paid off [Music] first and ten from the 11 Wallace swing pass Danielson to the 7 gain of maybe 3 and Iowa State's going to call a timeout you can see the clock down to 38 one left for Iowa State's Dan McCarney has always had great running backs here at Iowa State a real legacy he got Troy Davis who finished up in 96 little brother not much Darren Davis through 99 and Ennis Heywood's the cardholder and all of them kind of built the same way they're short they're sake they're powerful they hit the hole but look at these yards mm back to back two thousand yard seasons for Troy Davis and Darren Davis three one thousand yard seasons hennas Haywood back to back thousand yard seasons and if you add all that yardage um that's two miles of running backs running for first down the biggest difference of course is the fact that during the Davises tenure Iowa State did not go to a bowl game they had great running attacks they didn't have great defenses and until sage Rosenfeld's really stepped in they didn't have a tremendous quarterback play and then the administration stuck with Dan McCarney who went three and eight two and nine one and ten three ma [Applause] last year [Applause] [Music] Jamal Montgomery the intended receiver let's check in with Chris Fowler Chris Ridge the Dodge halftime report concerns in the Maryland camp about their best running back for the Orange Bowl game highlights of Georgia Tech's impressive showing in Seattle and a preview of the Aggies and the Horned Frogs tomorrow right Gilmore Terry Bowden join me at the half the Aggies not to play in the snow like they did last year in this one we get there inside against TCU Dennis Franchione ease old team franchisee of course left TCU and Gary Patterson coached their bowl game last year Madison did a fine job this year and seven Wallace defected the junior defensive end that's a 293 pound man making that play so that's some house right there that's that's going vertical for the big guy and that's dropping off a little bit putting it to the quarterback but depends on if you can get to the quarterback drop-off to get those big balls up in the air and try to knock the ball down and take away the passing light that's exactly what Kendall Morehead was able to do who's Tony yogi get out of Wisconsin it from 36 this from 25 [Applause] seven my father was a sports broadcaster so I spent many Saturdays of thinking about what an experience it might be having an opportunity one day to maybe run out of tunnel was nineteen years old I had that opportunity there were a hundred thousand people in the stands and as we came through that tunnel it started to pack up in front of me and pretty soon it got kind of congested you couldn't really understand why things were just sprinting out onto the field so our head coach pepper Rodgers doing somersaults right in the middle of the grass we like to say that's when he knew his team was ready in all the world only one University can call itself the birth play my galloway trying to run the clock out here in the second quarter as Iowa State has just missed a 25 yard field goal Dan McCarney has to be happy with the way his team has played though he was obviously displeased they missed that opportunity first for the seven points and then for the three points trying to win back-to-back bowl games for the first time in Iowa State history the Cyclones will head to the locker room with a 10-7 to the studios Chris Fowler rich thank you was about to praise Tony yelled for a good pooch punting field goal kicking you've been a weakness all year goes that misses the chip shot so the margin is three for Iowa State welcome to our College GameDay halftime report presented by Dodge now the news from the Orange Bowl and Maryland maybe without Bruce Perry their top running back it's an abdominal injury that he reactivated in practice on Thursday his status still unknown but Perry obviously would be a huge loss for the Terrapins he's the major part of the very good ground game you see 219 carries mark Riley the next busiest back when 85 Sean Hill is the quarterback he does a lot of running but obviously with Perry in any attempt that it balanced offense he is so critical as they take on a heavy favorite in Florida well if he can't go they have a real problem because his versatility is a key to their offense Ralph region does a great job of getting him the ball in space with the option they run him inside they screen the ball out to him if he can't go it's gonna be real tough for that Maryland offense to keep the Florida offense off the field and that could be a problem coach Ron we're not sure if he's out of this game even if he goes even if he's a hundred percent of all the BCS games I see this as the biggest mismatch Florida State the most talented team that Maryland played scored 51 points against this team and Florida has a lot better pass and get to act in Florida State and he's more bad injury news right Tony Todd white guard for Maryland had his ankle step on and practice his satis also unknown we're going to come back we'll have highlights of that game out in Seattle is Georgia Tech beat up on Stanford cyclones lead by three Dennis report sidewalks tonight at midnight he's doing nine Pacific on ESPN [Music] powerful and a great way to get to work Dodge [Applause] day 15 just nine hundred feet from the summit [Music] oh can take life as it comes or you can grab life by the horns dodge Iowa State on top of Alabama at halftime welcome back to our college gameday halftime report presented by Dodge earlier inaugurals Seattle Bowl the Stanford team that professed to be motivated hungry to get to that ten win Plateau took on a Georgia Tech team - their top rusher and Joe burns academically ineligible - of course head coach George O'Leary with interim coach Mack McWhorter having to hear all the rumors that Chan Gailey is about to become the new head coach at Georgia Tech motivation it had to be a question our going into the long road trip to Seattle questions answered the jackets under McWhorter who's the offensive line coach came out played very well coached very well and Stanford although they marched the ball had trouble they got down close here's Missoni of pitching up to carry Carter gets it out of the five so far so good then rod the play calling down the go on the try to muscle the ball in well power power running Carey Carter inside down to the one-yard line second ago you start thinking okay where's Jo Johnson nope Brian Allen get nothing and then Allen again on third and go nothing fourth down comes up what do you do Te'o Johnson no carry Carter gets stuffed again by Daryl Smith Stanford gets no points out of the Chris and that's again to set the tone for the jackets they led seven three when George got she goes to Kelly Campbell nice throw he almost dropped it but a 34-yard touchdown it was 17 three at halftime Chris Lewis replaces pisani and sparks the Cardinal lion wells catch the two-point conversion here stay out Johnson the making the touch that's what you call for a basketball player ed wells in the back of the end zone all of a sudden it's a three-point game momentum for the Cardinal but they got the ball after that twice more couldn't move it and Georgia Tech seals it right here Campbell gets in there a little reverse and Georgia Tech with McWhorter as the interim head coach the game ball from his senior quarterback who plays his final game for the Jackets 24:14 Georgia Tech disappointing loss for Stanford 14 points as the lowest output of the year and Shawn Gregory rushing for 91 yards on 19 carries filling in for burns after the game in the shell to take this thing all the way I'm really proud of my kids I think we've been in this situation so many times this year again come up innocent job and I'm just so proud of playing as hard as they didn't get it finished at the end I can't say enough about the character of our football team well the jackets respond and McWhorter continues a recent trend of interim head coaches guys who have taken over when the head coach moves on or come on a takeover a new program in the case of Cutcliffe and chris self oh it's Tulane in 1998 for whatever reason the players really responded in on the tech side I mean Stanford really didn't kind of a flat effort yeah kind of a flat effort by Stanford but you really have to take your hat off to what Georgia Tech did their players did a fantastic job they clearly played their hearts out from McWhorter they felt good about him but I think in the end you're gonna find that Chan Gailey is going to become the head coach they're sort of following the sunsoo model in the art of water go outside to find your new leader you don't pick from within coach well maybe he'll pick some assistance from within because when you win you're supposed to give credit to this players but I think the assistant coaches at Georgia Tech there were full of distractions they lost their head coach they lost their running back Joe burns their uncertainty they don't know whether they should prepare for this game should they look for a job being able to keep those players focused was incredible I believe and coming off losses to Georgia and the Florida say two of their biggest rivals to end the season that was a nice job regrouping five bowl games so far underdogs have won four of them at Iowa State leads Alabama at halftime by the way by a few go we'll come back and preview one of the games so Morrow involving a big 12 team when we continue in the couple of old Southwest Conference rivals TCU and Texas A&M 23 straight wins for the Aggies in this series something that's not lost on the TCU players Aggies though have to regroup they lost four out of the last six really couldn't get the offense going in the latter part of this season for a preview now down to Mark Malone and coach John Cooper the proud tradition of football at Houston will have a new home in 2002 the Reliant Stadium home of the new Houston Texans of course it Dwarfs the former eighth one of the world the Houston Astrodome our venue for the gallery furniture dot-com Bowl on Friday between TCU and Texas A&M joining me my broadcast partner coach John Cooper and coach this is a game between a couple of old Southwest Conference rivals TCU has had the worst of it losing 23 straight against the edges TCU is a very good defensive football team though mark they're gonna get off the bus blitzing LaMarcus McDonald the inside linebackers gonna put almost every play he has 24 and a half tackles for loss so far this year they held over the - 47 yards rushing and n better ba t see you on the other side of the football has a quarterback in Casey printers who's really coming to his own the last four ballgames averaging nearly 290 yards passing per game he's a very good athletic quarterback he's gonna run the option on aunt Emma's face some option football teams but I don't know if they faced an athletic quarterback like they're facing tomorrow afternoon Gallery Furniture combo TCU and Texas A&M we hope to join us mark thank you John's right this is a pretty good TCU defensive team just asked Nebraska Am's offense meanwhile last three games one offensive touchdown they have the worst points per game output since 1983 can they get it going the quarterbacks have also been kind of nicked up with Farris but he should be okay yeah you know they struggled this year really because they had so many injuries on offense and they only score the 20 touchdowns all season long that's a problem but listen to this they only have two senior starters among their top 22 offensive players I think in this ball game you're going to see a preview of next year four of their freshman starters and one sophomore contribute more of their offensive yardage there are no longer freshmen they're no longer sophomores they've had a full season they've had Bowl practices I think you're gonna see a different Texas A&M often some more confident group of players I think they have a chance to move the ball a little bit in this ball game yeah Rob but I think I think they're worried about Texas A&M s defense TCU has to find a way to move this ball against the wrecking crew they brought that good strong defense back what about Casey printers is the guy that has to lead the charge he has to play a good game but TCU won the last two games they come in here pumped up they want to be here they didn't slide into this game like Texas A&M they're gonna want this game oh yes 23 game losing streak if that's a in the lifetime of these guys and all of those games haven't been close especially the games in the 80s so we'll see if TCU can get it done or well Texas A&M kind of regroup and and try to reverse their fortunes of the second half of the season Gallery Furniture combo tomorrow on ESPN more hats on the cyclone bleeding the time by a field goal at Nissan's goodbye at 1:30 follows another one of our college gameday specials at one o'clock BC Georgia it by the puck and in the Culligan Holiday Bowl Texas and Washington in Prime's on good big 12 pac-10 matchup now you want to go to espn.com whale watch the game because dick Tomey you'll be kind of predicting and calling plays for Texas Jim Donnan hanging out with the Washington coaching staff breaking down their game plan so log on see how the coaches do Colin plays and you can vote in polls and read some player Diaries and plenty on the history of those programs involved in that Holiday Bowl which is an attractive matchup of course the news for Texas is the quarterback change major Applewhite and his final college game back has started for the Longhorns Cody picket for Washington he's played hurt much of this season how are they bought in the old days always a high-scoring offensive show it could be again rod because you got some future NFL wide receivers a lot of talent on the edge in this case yeah I think you're absolutely right about that we've talked all season long about the trend towards big receivers big exciting players we have that in this ball game Roy Williams of Texas a big receiver about six four can make plays down the field Washington has Reggie Williams a freshman receiver who's a big-time player also about six for 65 or so we're talking about guys who kind of play on the in the NFL they're gonna put on a great show the other tomorrow night I think it's really worth watching and look for the big receivers to step up brought everybody's talking about major Applewhite being the story here he's gonna play but I think the story of Cedric Vince will he be hundred percent healthy will he be ready to play he had five straight 100-yard rushing games in the second half of the season and wheeze in there they have bounce takes pressure off the quarterback if you can't play major Applewhite but if though it 4045 times and have a hot night with a pinched nerve is a game time decision you write that it's very crucial major says even though he's returning as a starter and wants to prove a point and make a nice show he's gonna be mature enough not to try to press and force things and that's key for Texas we don't want a quarterback out there trying to prove a point in a bowl game you got to play mature he says he will that's tomorrow on ESPN the Culligan Holiday Bowl and his say one of the offensive stories for the Cyclones 67 yards rushing they lead by three second half coming up shortly [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] powerful and a at halftime the singing policeman Daniel Rodriguez with god Bless America [Music] Stein beside her and guide her through the night with the light from above from the mountains to the prairies to the oceans wide [Music] merica sweet Bless America by [Music] oh sweet the finding men and women of Barksdale Air Force Base here in Shreveport Bossier City area brought Rodriguez in and that flag that they just raised has gone over to Afghanistan with many of the b-52 missions that have come out of Barksdale they brought the flag back just for the Independence Bowl and that was astounding it was a very emotional time and the fans loved it here it was a great job of seeing it was just world's experience you have to be on [Applause] both teams the their locker room sort of stopped and listened to that alright let's get back to some football mark man and let's talk about this football game Iowa State started quickly and it looked like Alabama recovered as we look at our game tracks on the ground both these teams have been successful in his Hin wood at 67 Ahmad Galloway had 67 both teams balanced and Andrew try the first Cutler agent Adam one can associate but the defense mountain state pressure on quarterbacks out to set yes Anders our option run that's Alabama's loans for Alabama gets the football now has gone the difference by the distance and here's Galloway to the 27-yard line a seven-yard pickup galloway has been the more effective of the two tailback system in alabama uses Santonio beard has been the other one we haven't seen Tyler watts yet mark may do you think we will I don't think so I think with that pulled groin muscle I think you're looking at a situation where Dennis Franchione he doesn't want to risk him clean it or tearing it because spring balls just hurry Jr's our senior down the option with mr. Galloway we stock to the 28 yard line mark Timmy's and Matt word on the stop generally surprised that we had been seen a little bit more of Santonio beard particularly on first and second down julie has five Russian attempts the first half he's really their big break away shred he's there Emer in the mix and I think in the mix earlier in the second half immediately member Iowa State was stopped at the 11-yard line final moments of the first half and they missed a 25-yard field goal this could easily be a 17-7 or a 13-7 game sales pitch and there's and there's your first down to the 33-yard line let's check in with Heather Cox rich I had a chance to catch up with Dennis Franchione II of Alabama he said hey we had a very long field to work with in the first half thanks to some good Iowa State punts I'm pretty satisfied with our offense in terms of stopping Seneca Wallace he said hey we stopped him on the run not on the pass and then I asked him if we might see Tyler watts and he said he would so mark a big surprise we might see Watts here in the second half good work Heather yeah I think that adds to their office because he's a better runner with the football than Andrews out [Applause] Gared straight ahead across the 40 to the 42 yard line that's an 8 yard pickup beard had that that big game against Auburn he went for a 141 against Tennessee there's a look at watts I think between both of those backs Ahmad Galloway - Antonio beard also here has that explosiveness when he hits the hole he hits it harden has an acceleration once he gets through the line of scrimmage I think that's also a major difference between two guys and both of them will be back next year bearded sophomore Galileo junior second in short it's Galloway across midfield at the 48-yard alabama's touchdown drive was a 10-play 80 yarder they chewed up chunks just like this I think it's no great surprise I think the halftime of justice adjustments made by Dennis Franchione in a locker room is basically we're a running football team let's continue to run the football here's the handoff and it's a nice job for my gal way of picking and weaving between the tackles in the big offensive and defensive lineman in the hole and picking up the first girl Iowa State shows blitz here they come [Applause] we can't sleep through it it's one thing that less caning the Alabama offensive coordinator told us is that Iowa State will blitz but they do it on the early downs they don't they don't wait for third down they'll come at you first in ten and what they want to do is they want to put you in second and third long situations they want to put pressure on the office to try to make you throw the football and it's going to be key in this game if they can get to the line of scrimmage and put pressure on quarterback Andrews out and stuff the run early happens more pressure on the office then they can play their game defensively and try to confuse to criminal seventh play of this Drive they've all been runs [Applause] it's out of the year trapped at the 46-yard line third said the junior middle linebacker out of Miami this is what Iowa State would love to do here's word on the top keep an eye on him he's got to come and he's kind of delayed blitz right there he wanted to step back he goes over the running backs San Antonio beard and gets to quarterback Andrews out this is what Iowa State wants to do as we talked about before pitch in second and long third long situation that's his second set of the day middle linebacker Network wasn't hard to we went to the same high school as the Davis brothers Southridge high school that was an easy sell sounds throw on the money the truck millions thought he should have had a flat atif austin on the coverage chief austin has been all over the field defensively for Iowa State this is a nice job of timing the past fouls back in the pocket looking left now he looks right throws the ball but right there the balls to the outside but what really does it is to finish off by a teeth Austin getting his hands on the receivers arm making sure he cannot come down with the football where his pawns where his hands on the arms too early on that one it was very close but you have to let him go all right you're not like Gilmore he doesn't give those wide receivers much at all at the eighth a sliding stop on the special teams and it's a long field Willie our way and bacon on the coverage long field now for Iowa State they get their first possession of the second half when we return [Music] this history races before our eyes some 31 yard line his in estate woods real-time user polling and interactive broadcast verge Friday tomorrow night with the Culligan Holiday well real-time coaching analysis is the fancy word for second gift here's a great key to to tell if your offensive linemen love your running back NSA win he's running down the field of play getting you blocked from his wide receivers but watch at the end of the plate look at the big ugly's come down the field to play right at the end of the play Lorenzo white the rest of them they want a rally around the running and his Heywood to the 29 back to the line of scrimmage Ritchie don't see 300 pounders 15 yards down the line of scrimmage 15 yards down the field of play trying to pick up an extra block for the running back you don't see that very often that just shows you this is a very very tight knit group offensively for Iowa State they help set the tone in that first half when Iowa State got off to a fast start [Applause] [Music] he fights across the 40 and has the first down a 12 yard pickup catch Berlin Danielson I am more and more impressed by Seneca Wall series rolling to his left it's not their protection breaks down what does he do he whips the ball right out of there on the run and on the money it's incredible what he's able to do with the football I can't think of a quarterback that's been more accurate throwing the ball on the run that I've seen the entire football season in Santa Claus well especially factoring in the speed that he's got when he is on the run heywood lulu's er it's almost a prototype quarterback that the speed option multiple set teams are looking for that's what they have they have to have a quarterback that is an anthem they can do everything multitask Attack Position get me just a drop Edward he has the throw on the run and not just throwing run think on the run not throw the ball into double coverage if it's not there throw it away if your receivers open get the ball down the field of play here's Tyler watts warming up here's a situation where he's a running quarterback he can throw the ball he puts pressure on defensive range Wallace running delivers on the run it's deflected in almost intercepted Jamal Montgomery and it bounced out of his arms Roberto McBride almost had that interception that isn't been the first time that receivers had the ball in his hands and not been able to come down with a reception this offense roll right roll left it's tough to defend for the drinks and tide defense their secondary is not very good a lot of teams have thrown the ball well again to secondary LSU and Rohan Davey the quarterback 528 yards passing against the special [Applause] on third and 11 becomes a blitz Wallace steps up midfield Craig Campbell's got a first down into Alabama territory 19 yards on the pickup this is what I'm impressed with keep an eye in front of the line of scrimmage cynic loss he'll step up and see all this green there's no one out there he can take off and run with a football but he's patient enough to wait for Craig Campbell to become open to throw the ball down the field for the first time and for a running quarterback where a guy that can run as well as he does you don't often see that a guy that's patient enough you saw how much green he had in front of him that's not often you find that in a quarterback particularly quarterback starting his first year in a Division one program it's a good point the Alabama 41 Wallace Jarrett Johnson [Applause] first sack of the night for the Alabama defense mr. kewal really didn't have a chance in this protection breaks down they go to the roll we're going to fake the ball now back here he doesn't have a chance to sit and step up in the pocket there's pressure on the outside and then Derek Johnson finishes them off but that's a nice play Cornelius wertham comes with the pressure on the outside jerk Johnson's there to finish them off this is what Alabama has to do they have to put pressure on Seneca Wallace they can't let him sit back in the pocket and dictate to the defense second and eighteen now drawn to Jemaine bill the 48-yard line [Applause] were them [Applause] defenders in on that stop this is like one of those w8 flights they come with a bolo punch and pick up 15 18 yards get a first down then the defense comes up with a big play drops you for a loss and you come back offensively and pick up the Arts this is a great fight it's a great contrast of different offenses against different defenses but for both of these teams at the point attack got the lead contrast is a good word because so both of these teams are rather a mystery to each other first time they faced each other clock running down Wallace flushed out [Applause] a dangerous throw is at the 35 it's short of the first down Jack Whitford made the catch it'll be fourth down and about four that's Gus first of all that's athleticism to avoid the rush on the outside keep an eye on southern koalas right here he Sprint's to the outside pressures being bought in the outside by Thurman Ward though right here he's patient but he throws the ball back across the grain that's dangerous and he to it off-balance but he did complete the pass and pick up the positive urine Iowa State is going to go for it at least they appear to but they're going to call a timeout first ten seven a fourth down when we get back [Music] I don't believe in luck I worked hard I take control so when I decided to quit smoking I chose Nicorette Nicorette helps me take charge husband Frank cravings by setting a regular schedule eight pieces a day if a sudden craving appears now thanks to me and Nicorette finally get away and luck has nothing to do with it you can do it Nicorette can help miss Blaine on 30 October you were observed handing out these suspicious-looking little dish those disks you refer to bestow freedom on all who possess them but you call freedom I call license a license to go willy-nilly all over the internet without paying a cent well shouldn't that be a right shouldn't the internet be free to us our children and to all people major Applewhite is back as Texas fights to hold off Washington Texas Washington the Culligan Holiday Bowl 28 on ESPN 10 7 Iowa stayed on top of Alabama on 4th down and 5 Iowa State was still in the huddle but Alabama had their fun return team on and had to burn the time on the wrong personnel but Iowa State catches a break because now they get a chance to go back and think of what they want to do they're gonna go for it on fourth down [Applause] Wallace to the sidelines Wayne Bacon on the sidelines Jack Whitmer the intended receiver I'll tell you what this is a gutsy call right here to thrill this play only fourth and five to pick it up control the ball that far downfield but look at the athleticism on Wayne Bacon right at the end of the play bleeping up in the air he was up there a good 30 inches off the ground that's just a smart play that's an aggressive play getting to the football and knowing what to do when you get there by Wayne deflecting it off the hands of wit fer it's a secondary that hasn't had a lot of big plays in terms of interceptions this year I only have six [Applause] and on the ground at Galloway that brings up an interesting point mark and we haven't addressed it yet neither of these teams turn the ball over munch on the season and they both have done a wonderful job of keeping hold of the ball tonight and that's something that you have to practice continually it's got to be done by your head coach for Alabama 15 turnovers this season plus turnover margin they hold on to the football which is outstanding and they don't throw on receptions only five interceptions thrown by both quarterbacks Iowa State had just 14 turnovers this year and just two fumbles to the 39-yard that's incredible the Iowa State lost two fumbles all Europe we've only had one turnover an escape and that was the interception thrown by Andrews out to Adam I think both of these coaches this game said whoever wins the turtle [Music] now a third down we saw Tyler watts warming up and has yet to take a sample shotgun Denis cream smooth and stuffed deandre phillips [Music] and for DeAndre Phillips this is an incredible read he's at the safety position he's backed up keep an eye on him there gotta run stunts with the defensive front watch his stunts little twist on the front try to confuse the offensive line the line gets out in the screen but look at the beef boom right there on the receiver out in the flat that's a great read on a spring don't go through the bait on the screen get to the football and watch them Blayne Bearden turn onto the 44 yard line good-sized crowd on hand in the Shreveport for mainstay independence ball is one to you by Chrysler live equals love proud sponsor of the capital won Florida Citrus Bowl on January 1st this has turned into almost a comfortable night in Shreveport temperatures about 45 degrees Iowa State a 10-7 lead with the ball on the move their own 44 Seneca Wallace [Applause] and let's see who's got the football it looks initially like a catch the officials are conferring [Applause] but Alabama was in a situation they didn't want to be in they blitzed up front which left their quarterbacks with one on one down the field to play [Applause] interference against Alabama now the question is was it a catch or an interception let's take a look [Music] it looks like an interception and that obviously what the pass interference wipes out the interception and it's a 15-yard penalty the first of the night that's one heck of a job by Alabama this is a team that had in the history of Alabama this year they're penalized ninety three times for 730 [Applause] Wallace on the move again comes away with it [Applause] some catch by craig Campbell cynical Wallace has threaded some some balls through some traffic here in Craig Kelly on this play under duress rolling left throwing it right so smooth leaving that ball between two defenders that's concentration by Craig Kelly on that play and that's like catching a BB in the dark in between two defenders being able to come down [Applause] and his hang wood inside the 25 down to the 22 4 yard pickup remember Iowa State was on a drive like this to finish the first half they got down to the 11 did not come away with points contempt a field goal and they missed the 25 yard and I think this is about the time of the game where we'll see a little trick oration both teams tried trick plays early on this game right now I will be honest it up [Applause] the sophomore in a cowboy in City Mississippi that's a nice play watch your defensive ends here line to stay contained were them on that play he kept his container with another third down and 11 [Applause] [Music] by Campbell but he's well short of the first down I think receipts going to young market at the 24 and would be about a 42 yard field goal attempts Wallace in trouble on that was almost like a jailbird initially the reaction is and he's setting up a screen yeah nobody was out there for the screen I don't think that was the right call in the huddle either that or here's the other key the ball may have been snapped just to Chikara right here is yo he missed from 25 he's made from 36 and this one is good [Applause] cyclones have three points to show for that drive we check in with heather cox rich we all heard part of the emotional condition of God bless america sung by officer Rodriguez and Daniel how have the songs that you're singing changed in the light of the events of September 11th I think songs like god Bless America have become a nest and an anthem for 9/11 and and they've become more than just songs have become like prayers no god Bless America prayer for forgot to help us out through this trouble times you're really wearing two hats not only a police officer but also a very talented singer as we've all heard you have an opportunity to train with Placido Domingo how did that come about well I auditioned for Placido Domingo the mayor had initiated the contact between him and I and I sang a couple of songs and he invited me to come down to Washington to the young artist program the valar young artist program and in March I begin my training there for three and a half months and hopefully after that maybe take my place with some of the great tenors all right Daniel congratulations thanks so much best of luck to you you've certainly been a symbol of inspiration to us thank you very much it's a pleasure to be here southern hospitality is a great thing that got to the food all right Thank You Heather and the independence ball taking our little special meeting with the folks nearby at Barksdale Air Force Base you'll remember that on 9/11 President Bush's plane landed at Barksdale on its way back from floor here at Barksdale deployed of the 5000 that are stationed on that base sixty-five b-52s are located here the biggest b-52 base on the planets Wilson Alabama is going to bring it out Pisan Micheli might think differently after that hit brings it out to the 16 yard line Saturday edition Monday Night Football you've got the Ravens in the Buccaneers and of course Monday night countdown moved to Saturday as well presented by UPS it starts at 7:30 Eastern the game kicks at 9:00 Eastern on ABC Sports who you like in this one I'll tell you what the Buccaneers office they finally have a pulse they showed the rest the NFL that in December Tony Dungy group our group to be reckoned with I like the Johnson boys for that Tampa Bay Buccaneer Brad Johnson against the Baltimore defense his bench against that defense Fredi millions in motion [Applause] so delivers it to the big tide in Terry Jones jr. these brambles across the 32 the 33 yard lines a 20 yard pickup we haven't heard much from mr. Jones he said great blocker in this offense and what he's able to provide his toughness and he's kind of a guy that when he looks back he's one of those superstition guys he always wears rubber bands on his wrist and the only two times he didn't do that once in high school he got injured and laughter he got injured grant a seasoned agent and rubber bands in place tonight sound somehow he got in the way and it's incomplete he wants grounding now the key here he's out of the tackle box that pass has to go past the line of scrimmage zone shaken up on his play awesome he's taking his time getting back to what a play by Matt word he's got a bead on quarterback Andrew Zhao he's growing out looking down the field but look at them close you to be right there [Applause] that's a nice job the ball nets very close but that's a great play one by so Steve's in there [Applause] Jeremy I'll tell you what we're talking about a linebacker that's really come of age keep an eye on word in the middle and the rest of his compadres up front you see three down defensive linemen they run a twist on on the outside it confuses the offensive line San Antonio beard cannot pick up the blitzing linebacker Matt work and the rest of the defense pitch the quarterback to the side he had Jeremy Lloyd to deal with as well take your pick on those two he didn't block either third down and long so this time is going to tuck it and go [Music] and at the 37 he's well short of the first down that word another stop it's ten tackles now forward leader for this Iowa State TV at 108 on the season he is and what's happened to the offense ray Alabama Iowa State's confusing them they're coming up with three down linemen with four down linemen they're running twist stunts up front they're blitzing linebackers winner giving him array of different looks defensively he's young Alabama low snap Bearden gets it away Todd Miller weights of the 20 flag goes down that was real close it looks initially like a halo infraction [Applause] Chris James made the hit for Alabama [Applause] it's a wonderful job of hustling my first games but you have to be smart miss attached we got to given the two yards in the halo [Applause] [Music] Ron cherry our referee here's a look you know I mean that that's to your that is two yards I mean that close the speed at which he was traveling those two yards disappeared in a blink of an eye and they're pretending to Andrew Zhao right now Iowa State football their own 24 now is 5-yard penalty Wallace dumps it out with the catch at the 26 [Applause] three quarters have passed here in Shreveport Alabama starting quarterback on the bench right now Andrews a 13-7 Iowa State back for the fourth after this [Applause] sunday NFL countdown Sunday mornings at Bowl Iowa State a 13-7 lead over Alabama rich Walt's mark may Heather Cox back at Independence Stadium in Shreveport Seneca Wallace and the Cyclones at their own 26-yard Oh the Tron [Music] and he is stopped at the 30-yard line our ESPN gain track stories and the pictures from this game Tony young the redshirt freshman kicker has hit a pair of field goals for Iowa State cynical wallace supporter background state adds a different dimension right speaking of running it's been Iowa State who has run well against Alabama [Applause] part of the 300 by the Iowa State offense basically exactly what we thought we would see to myself at Seneca walls have menacingly heaven [Applause] heywood gets a block on the first down to the 42 yard line jail Dixon made this not 12 yards on the pickup that's a multiple offense in their offensive coordinator Steve Loney is a guy that ran the same offense with success in his stop at the Minnesota spent a couple of years Thomas Hamner was his running back Billy Cochran was an option quarterback who didn't throw it as well as wast but ran that offense very well in Minnesota second year for Loney back at his alma mater in his last two years he also doubles as the offensive line coach and I think that has a lot to do with the plate - auntie I could block this guy okay this is incomplete let's check in with Heather Cox Heather well rich the official word down here on the Alabama sideline is that Tyler Zhou has a bruised calf however there I see not only his calf but also his knee coach Fran Joanie came over and said are you good to go and he said coach I don't think so obviously we've seen Watts warming up on the sideline I wouldn't be surprised to see Watson on the next series all right Thank You Heather that will be an adjustment for the Iowa State defense if it went that he's a very versatile not only throwing the ball as you see ten touchdowns two interceptions but also running with this [Applause] almost expired steps up punch once and as his man Danielson to the 40-yard Lane Danielson for another first down for Iowa States look how cool and confident Celica Wallace is at the quarterback position he's not afraid to throw that ball across the field most quarterbacks wouldn't make a lot of throws like this but he has the confidence in his arm strength and his receivers where he's got to throw the football [Applause] the tribe continues on first and ten with a swing pass and Jamal Montgomery with the catch he'll lose a yard Kendall Morehead cilium received it on that stock that's name we haven't heard called a lot tonight Selenia sheet he made a couple plates early first half but I think the misdirection in some of the plays at Iowa State was really because they want him to keep an eye on quarterback Seneca Wallace they don't want Santa Claus flip that so he basically had to stay home [Applause] [Music] on second and 11 blitz is coming dump it to Heywood to the 30 he's very close to the first time eleven yards on the completion [Music] Todd Bates made this stop for Alabama now this is a nice job of running a quick little underneath screen middle screen the offensive linemen do a wonderful job of getting down the field but play that's well coached if the defensive lineman doesn't rush knocking down the field to play that's exactly what the Iowa State offensive line is able to accomplish on warrants since alone is the offensive line coach he's one of the few offensive coordinators you'll find that are on the sidelines sometimes that's a good thing because basically you can [Music] [Applause] anas Haywood senior out of Dallas Texas when you build a program or rebuild it as Dan McCarney has done you have to find players that other people haven't found and I think he did that in Haywood and he certainly did that in Seneca Wallace you have to find those modok's that are out there ain't good coaches and good recruit through treating programs were able to do that and now that they've had success these last two years Iowa State is really starting to have success in their home state [Music] to the 21 yard line I believe this play the reason why they weren't able to have success is Lane deals and goes in motion so the entire defense has watch them go in motion and they think it's going to be a trick play so what happens they don't contain on the backside and it's the great vision of Haywood to cut the ball to the left and take the ball to the game in his Haywood over a hundred yards that's good news for Dan McCarney and the Cyclones [Applause] second down it's [Music] who's got it Alabama says they do you can see the referee Ron cherry in there with his hand up signaling it's Iowa State ball over a hundred yards again for an estate would and he rushes through over a hundred yards dilutes this what's in the bag for Iowa State but I believe it's not over yet there's a long way to go in this football game but that's one thing that guys can believe in on the sidelines and building confidence in and this is a football team that doesn't lose fumbles it's just just the quarterbacks n applause not concentrating on the ball getting a grip on the ball but NSA will down at the bottom of the pile keep some time to the end zone please he was looking for Campbell [Applause] that a third-down play only three fumbles in the last 56 games that is incredible that starts back at the beginning of the 97th season this team has been phenomenal of protecting the football when the ball is on the ground all those great reasons for miles they were going for the football at the bottom of the pile and as he was doing right an important field goal now for Tony yo they would stretch it enough that Alabama would need to scores [Applause] missed it damn a carny not happy up to four four and it's still a 13-7 ballgame Ken Rosewall 18 Grand Slam championships rod laver 20 Grand Slam championships both our mainstay investors when you understand the Super Duty built to throw the line the world's greatest Alabama is still within six points 13-7 Iowa stayed on top the Cyclones have missed a pair of field goals Tyler watts stays on the field and Andrews out the van that has delivered them here to a ballgame became in relief when watch was injured led him to the win over Mississippi State the shellacking and he beats other myths as well pretty much [Applause] in complete [Applause] second down in 10 this ball is up a little higher this is going to be a big play because Freddie Mullins has his wide receivers in front of them enjoying some great blocks down through the play but here's the key Alabama past it's over football only 76 yards in the air Iowa State [Applause] one Russian team of the sec in averaging just 183 yards at game [Applause] [Music] second internal option and the pitch to Santonio beard out to the 30 it's a gain of six we're jellyfishers didn't test the calf of Andrews out when he runs the option you want to find out the Feast of hundred percent if he has a sore calf muscle bruised camp [Music] take the option away from you that's the biggest difference between salmon walk John's good ad told us with Zhao on the option [Applause] wot's they wanted out of his hands [Applause] down south TRO is on the money villains the catch at the 38 [Applause] you pull for a kid like Andrew Zhao less caning the offensive coordinator told us he's the best kid he's been around in college football keep an eye on the rotation of Zhou when he rolls out of the pocket I think that's impressive because now his calf looks fine then he sets up to throw the ball and the ball is on the money that's putting some heat on the football that's putting it the only place you receiver can get it in the defender can't [Applause] the way the carry stuffed at the 37 yard line [Applause] Jordan Karstens the sophomore made the stop for Iowa State rich and I'm gonna go back to what I talked about in this game at least twice coming out in pads practicing for a bowl game every day getting callus getting used to the hits being physical with each other I think it's paying off for Iowa State and I said it would particularly late in the game I think when you look at head coach Kulkarni and Iowa State side Dan I think you realize that it's going to pay off mrs. Porter now under pressure [Applause] Sam Collins the intended receiver he's out of the shotgun he's rolling to his left he doesn't have a chance to turn his shoulders but pressure has brought on again by Matt Word and Justin Oilers on the play and after the play quarterback Andrew Zhao is limping keep an eye on Andrews out he's not a hundred percent he's limping after this [Applause] kathan all third Josette's up the screen it's beard at the 43 short of the first down seven yard pickup Anthony forest made the hit Anthony forest made the first hit but the top off was bi mát word okay I tell you what I am impressed by this linebacker he just sells out from sideline to sideline six foot and they say he's really 511 230 pounds but he gets the job done he's one of those football players you don't worry if he runs a 4 or 5 he knows how to get from sideline to sideline and make tackle he's a good attack varta chancla Danny's defense sixth of the night for lame beard as he'll punt away and the best-selling trucks are built Ford Tough 7:47 left Iowa State with the lead and the ball Seneca Wallace setting throwing hold it was behind him Campbell had to reach for it and by then Blaine bacon had caught it this is a terrific play by Wayne bacon on this play adjusting to the ball turning and running to the receiver he couldn't see the ball but playing the ball when the receiver turns back to receive the ball but I'll tell you what this is going for the throat on this play this is trying to put the dagger right in the heart of Alabama offensive coordinator Steve low knee right on first down taking the ball down the field vertically against the Alabama defense second and ten I was just going to ask you if Iowa State was going to keep it on the ground and try to run some clock and then he went up top big first play the go up again this time the screen good play by the Alabama defense reggie miles on the hip it's a gain of maybe five Alabama trying to apply pressure on the play going for the Blitz on the play but a screen was called Iowa State that's a smart job of getting rid of the ball by Seneca Wallace I look at the sidelines of the Alabama players I'd like to see a little bit more life a little bit more rallying behind my team on this field if I'm on the sidelines to make sure that the guys on the sidelines are supporting in behind him that's one of those things that head coach Dennis Franchione some excitement third down five wallets over the minute it's caught by Mike banks the captain of this team the tight end his first catch of the night and it's a big one and this is something that Seneca Wallace hasn't shown us yet but it's another step in his progression of impressing me as a quarterback right in his face he's being nailed by Derrick Johnson but Mike banks the big tight end they call him the Manimal he's one of those guys that they respect he's a great blocker they say he's got pretty good hands he'll make the heart catch but sometimes he has difficulty making the easy catch but that was a hard catching 11-yard pickup now on the Haywood to the 41-yard line let's check in with Heather Cox Heather rich some more information for you on Alabama quarterback Andrews out he got kicked behind the knee they've massaged it they've iced it he said yes he can play but it's only about 60% they're worried about how effective that will be on the run now don't forget Tyler Watts continues to nurse a pulled groin but he is remaining very active on the sidelines down here and Watson a couple of occasions tonight has warmed up has thrown the football around but has yet to take a snap second down [Applause] Cawood at the 44 gain of a couple hey one just has that body like that you like to see in her back through the town he's always alone he's always gonna fall forward rarely takes a loss on the play a chance to get the ball in his hands look down just under six minutes Haywood over a hundred yards [Applause] third down Seneca [Applause] and it's incomplete Jamal Montgomery sophomore out of Long Beach California but it's the pressure by Kendall Morehead his rush up the field getting pressure flushing out quarterback cynical loss which really made the play defensively for the Alabama Crimson Tide Tony Yelp who is also the field goal kicker he has made a couple he's missed a couple field balls good night punting on averaging 47 [Applause] is blocked blocks the kick they're given at the 29-yard [Applause] second block punt on the season he's had four field goals blog it has coach Dan McCarney telling them you can't hold on to the ball get rid of it as soon as you get it in your hand here he gets the ball look at any position to takes an extra step but it's the rush by Alabama that's able to get to the punter here it is again here's another look get the ball on your hands don't worry about position at Punit but it's the rush from Alabama right up the gut that gets pressure on Tony up and blocks this time the junior safety got through to get it [Applause] and Iowa State's defense answers Justin eilers on the stop [Applause] for timeouts Alabama used one when they didn't have used one early which could cost him in this game but this is the moment of truth for both of these teams for Iowa State [Music] and they take the ball down and get it into the end zone they've had a problem moving this ball converting when they had to on third down situation [Applause] one second and eight [Applause] Jay Jones jr. the myth 27 yards [Applause] Neal Thomas for the extra point [Applause] Alabama has for 44 left in the fourth quarter for being the operative number has not been good for Alabama this year Alabama has had a tough time closing the door on their opponents having the lead in the fourth quarter that's something that a young football team needs to do is learn how to win in the fourth quarter that's one of the things head coach out for Alabama Dennis Franchione he's been trying to drill into his football team the game is not over until the last play is over [Applause] flags down Miller on the return out to the 25-yard line flag back at the 18 [Applause] although return is a block in the back by the return team half the distance from the spot of the file for dinner and for Alabama keep an eye on Terry children right here he's going to fight through the three defenders from Iowa State there's confusion on the play dude he's gotta run to the corner and the safety Anthony for us has the shoulders turned and he just runs the defense at the broken coverage by Iowa State not fighting out with the tightness ball communicating on the play they work for the play fake the play action [Applause] and that's a 265 Misha go now Seneca Wallace it's incomplete coming up 10:30 Eastern SportsCenter to give you all the day's highlights Miller time for Michael is Miami words one Moe deal Mo Vaughn find the on the move Carl rabbits Linda Cohen SportsCenter coming up here in Shreveport forty five thousand six hundred and twenty seven to eight it's Bowl history Iowa State got 92 yards to go I'm gonna get some of them on this curry bye Haywood who has the first down out to the 25-yard line that's a 15-yard pickup I think that's a terrific call by the Iowa State offensive coordinator Steve Logan second and 10 yards to go you're patient with your running game you've got a quarterback that can roll out and make plays make the defense respect that quarterback that opens up the running game that's a heck of a call of sticking to your guns you run the ball first with this offense that's what they were able to do to use to roll [Applause] thanks in motion [Applause] even though there's no paint on this point I still like it because now the defense still has to respect the run if you're going to try to key I am quarterback Seneca Wallace you're still gonna have to worry about running back and as Hayward and it kind of compact the defense down even on second and long you look at the last play they ran the ball for a first down so you cannot just camp quarterbacks [Applause] you better start keying on the clock though if you're honest [Applause] Campbell makes the catch you know I've seen one quarterback this year that can make that throw rolling to his left and throw it on the money that's David Carr from Fresno State Wallace has done it time in and time out tonight and look at the poise watch the hit at the end he knows he's going to get lamb basted and he does right at the end of the play that's by Aires Monroe but he's smart enough to concentrate on his receivers down the field and flutter that ball in there so his receiver Craig Campbell can come down to yourself remember even though he's missed two field goals Tony Yelp has a very strong way you get 60 easily enormous news keeping [Applause] walls threw it behind Jack with her Gerald Dixon good coverage for Alabama SportsCenter coming up next spiral rabbit Linda cone I think this is an area that I'm calling plays as an offensive coordinator I go back to a screen game swing it out to my back or throw a screen now you've got Alabama which is going to attack the line of scrimmage and go after quarterback Seneca Wallace as they've done the last few plays you got an opportunity to dump the ball off short cuts [Applause] Wallace gonna throw it up deep [Applause] pull back Gerald Dixon pushed before the play and I think Danielson did just as the ball was coming down [Applause] I have seen a call this year where they've called interference on both the receiver and the defender I think it's gonna be an IELTS to make your ride and you really can't argue with lane daniel-san he's trying to come down the big plays make an adjustment back for the ball they're both hooked up right here that little push at the end cause if he just turns his shoulders to the ball he's able to catch this ball without a penalty but I think it's that little push that got him in trouble the finishing push to finishing it and it doesn't help when the defender that's covering you goes on the ground before you know through something it's a huge penalty yardage wise obviously it was a 47-yard pickup and this is going to turn into a 15-yard penalty second and 25 I don't know what Steve Loney and Dan McCarney have in the playbook for second and 25 but we're about to find out Ponte what works in most offenses I would be very concerned in this situation but situations like this you've got those two down you still thought the ball - they've broken that had to change the formation [Applause] boys cruisin 26 yards on the pickup that's what they had in the playbook for silicon 225 I will tell you one thing we are seeing a star and in this football games and Seneca walls excellent pass protection by the guys up front it allows the claws to step up in the pocket let him do their stunts and twist step up in the pocket keep your eyes down go and then drill the ball down the field of play that's what you want out of your quarterback that's exactly the Seneca Wallace school restarts as they move the change Wallace 23 of 37 half-a-dozen dropped as well woloson trouble get it and escape to the 42 nobody reminds me of a young Steve young see John was at Brigham Young this is how he played he attacked defenses he had two feet the ability to run away when he scrambled with the football Seneca Wallace does but he also has his strength in his arm now this is complete concentration on this snap for Seneca Wallace it's a bad snap the snaps all the way to his right again that's a second time that's happened tonight but he's able to come up in the football now make something happen with the ball take off running and he makes the defense miss there was a flag down Alabama was offsides and so Iowa State is going to take an eight-yard gain rather than a five-yard penalty they will however lose that down instead of first and five at second and two when you have a mobile quarterback - you're just migrations Alabama shows blitz and here they come Wallace to the 47 kyndall Moorhead and here's where declining that penalty and losing that down comes back to haunt you asked a little bit but here's the key on this play the Seneca Wallace can take this ball down and run with it he may pick up the first down to his left there's nothing but grain fields to mine so from second and two it turns into third down and what looks like seven and timeout Iowa stakes rush 137 when you're second in 25 to get 26 you go back to that last play again I know you come up with that third may play well what this man is accomplished I can remember in 1998 during a football game at Iowa City Iowa State at Iowa and Dan McCarney and our pregame meeting said you know we haven't had a lot of success here and he had gone 3 and 8 2 and 9 1 and 10 he was thirty point underdogs and he told us if something doesn't go right here we may be in trouble and you know what he won that game they beat Iowa and that was the first of four consecutive wins over the Hawkeye's let's check in with Heather Cox [Music] [Applause] Dan McCarney pacing the sidelines even though they went three and eight in that season mark that win against Iowa I think saved his job and helped turn this program around quote something that not only the players but the Alumni everybody can gravitate towards a win against your arch rival honors that's what this team's been able to do [Applause] bowl win last year the first in the school's history third down upcoming Wallace's throw is high and incomplete and it's 4th down and 7 obviously this is the biggest play of the game coming up and I think you've got to move your quarterback out of the pocket forget dropping them straight back you roll him out of the pocket and you make sure that you come down and knock the defensive end out the offensive lineman has to cut him from the outside allowing Wallace to escape to the outside use his vision if it's not there the pressure on the defense pull it down and run with me if it's there throw if your Alabama do you come after him you bet you I'll tell you what if you sit back against a quarterback like Seneca Wallace it'll cost you it looks like Alabama's team towards ones from fourth and seven here it comes Wallace over the middle Danielson with the cash the sonic booms are still alive it's like the 15th life of that cat they just continue to roll and cynical walls it's like he's so cool in the pocket keep an eye on Seneca Wallace in the pocket the pressures coming from the outside excellent pass protection by the line and running backs of giving him time to look down the field he had one receiver isolated and got the ball Wallace spikes the football with a minute 18 left that is a strange one and it will be second down in ten now the completion brought in the first down and it also brought them within about a 50-yard field goal range SportsCenter is coming up after the completion of this the mainstay Independence Bowl where the minute 18 left Iowa State chose to spike the football the timeouts left that's what I can't understand here's the situation why waste it down I know you've got a tremendous quarterback and you say he's got a kicker that's game range already with the strength of his way but still you got one time whistle stop this play with a flag coming back at the 14 yard line and the play clock was right down at zero ouch this takes them out of the long field goal range they lost the down on the spike and they lose five yards on the penalty if no that spike comes down cojones often there's some employees they gotta go back and break this field film down if it cost you the game is like because timeouts why waste a time up get to the line of scrimmage and run a play don't waste the play by spiking the ball now second down in 15 wallace under pressure delivers it banks the tight end the catch banks is for the 30-yard line [Applause] in about seven banks is slow to get up that's gonna stop the clock and one thing about Mike banks the reason why they call in the Manimal he's a tough guy and there's a reason for that he's gonna hop off the field but what I was impressed with when he caught this ball here's the guy that's an experienced player he's a senior going back a look at he wrapped the ball up with both hands sacrificing his body knowing he was going to take a hit but he protected the 47-yard field goal from here so Wallace really can't afford to take a sack on third down and seven lots of time to the sidelines eerie concrete Gunnery couldn't hold it his decision time here 50 seconds left going back to that play the entire middle of the field was wide open they've got to take a couple shots down the middle they've had a lot of success in this Drive touring the ball in the middle of the field field though unit coming on Tony Elks longest 47 yards this is a 47 yard now the play clock I think our state's gonna have to take a timeout the play clock is down to seven they can't get this thing off and Yelp sees the clock and the presence of mind of that redshirt freshman pretty big in that situation he calls the timeout a 47-yard er for the lead when we get back [Music] sidewalks tonight at midnight eastern nine Pacific on ESPN [Applause] this month at Sonic we're rolling out our new big cheese to mark the occasion Sonic's chairman our own big cheese will deliver the very first one cheese is the biggest burger we've ever brought you made with two juicy burger patties and three slices of smoky cheddar cheese topped with Chris bacon and tangy sweet honey pepper sauce who knows when it'll be back again just for the holidays enjoy our creamy eggnog shake just like old-fashioned eggnog it's a day you won't forget and a day you've planned for college sense an intelligent way to save for college [Music] 14:13 Alabama Tony young for our state about to attend 47 yarder equals his season long he is too cool [Applause] thirty-six missed from 42 [Applause] on the clock was twice for Strings of Dan McCarney to have a field goal kicker is such a powerful and strong leg and the mystery for balls in this game it's a good snap but to could hold the protections there and there it is it's up high it's long enough just at the very end I'll tell you why the think it was good hold out a minute let's take another look at this I want another look at that from the end zone guys we can get this this field goal is good that is a heck of a kick he thinks it's good Alabama is gonna go to Annie the clock will expire well I was gonna take a timeout that is one of those field goals that goes right over the upright and the official has to look up and make the call we'll take a look when we get back [Applause] here we go you got love Johnny Cash the man in blacks kind of guy doesn't meet sparkly outfits synchronized dance moves Johnny just bleeds every note till it brings the house down I'm just saying don't send a boy band to do a man's job Ford f-series Super Duty built to tow the line then Ford Tough that's the way to get it done every time you use your Discover card Discover will make a out more call 1-800 discover more go to discover card calm [Music] thirty-eight seconds left in the mainstay Independence Bowl Alabama is going to take a knee and this game is over that last field goal by Tony Janka 47 yards [Applause] I'll tell you what I don't know that you could miss a field goal by much more than that [Applause] Andrew Zhao is our capital one player of the game the big touchdown pass to Terry Jones jr. the game winner and Alabama back in a bowl will finish their season at 7 and 5 Dan McCarney and Iowa State also finishes at 7 and 5 one more look at the Miss by Yelp I don't think you can get any closer than this from this angle it's tough to tell where this ball is right at the end take another quick look at it the official at the bottom of your screen is looking straight up that up right oh man [Music] right over the up right that is the margin by which Alabama beats Iowa State [Music] in the mainstay independence ball 1413 Alabama huge win for the Crimson Tide Dennis Franchione II said a win here really sets us up for next year [Music] the Crimson Tide back in a bowl game [Music] and they wouldn't sports senator is coming up post this one will follow on ESPNEWS this has been a presentation of ESPN the worldwide leader in sports for Heather Cox and Marc May I'm rich Walt's Alabama beats Iowa State by inches 1413 good night from Shreveport SportsCenter coming up [Music] come on dad you promised to ski with that you're bumming us out there looks like you could use Holmes he believes that Davis was down and see no those boys need it and it's more who led the team and tackles that's his tenth recovering Missoni so Mike you'd go back to the kickoff you don't return a pen all five yards deep in the end zone you can't be a hero take it at the 20 you put extra pressure on everybody mental error on the special of a 17-yard law made it to the 10-yard line luis again save what would have been a huge Gator maybe attached to this reminds me of a seven-on-seven and practice where you just say to the first team defense you get the first team offensive line draw two receivers and throw out the DBS and you say hey we're gonna run the ball against you and stop the run that's what it is right here for those that have just joined us up the 42 points scored tonight 35 have come off turnovers let's see if Colorado can put this in the end zone and add still another score after a turnover back into the short side of the field nothing doing here
