hey guys it's Peter Frye and welcome to the living with hope podcast a daily devotional where we dig into God's Word and explore what it means to live with hope in Jesus we come today to Ephesians chapter three verses 14 through 21 and this is a prayer that Paul prays for the church in Ephesus and I think that this could be in many ways a guide for us today in our prayer not only for our own hearts before our church and for our faith community and for each of you that we would experience the love of God the length width and height and depth of God's love for us and that he would be glorified in and through us and so I want this to guide our hearts in prayer today and I think that there's not so much that needs to be explained about this passage but more that our hearts would echo it in our desires and so I'm going to read beginning of verse 14 I invite you to make this your prayer today for this reason I bow my knees before the father from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his spirit in your inner being so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith that you being rooted and grounded in love may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth and to know the love of Christ that surpasses all knowledge that you may be filled with all the fullness of God now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think according to the power at work within us to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever amen like I said I don't want to over explain this prayer I simply want it to be the cry of each of our hearts that and I want to just highlight a couple of things that Paul prays for one is that we would be rooted that the foundation of our lives would be in the love of Christ that Christ would dwell in our hearts through faith that we would be grounded in his love for us and then Paul points us to the reality that his love for us is is is higher it's wider it's deeper it's longer than any of us could ever imagine and so there is a level in which God is inviting all of us to go deeper and we saw that in Paul's prayer back in Ephesians chapter 1 that he wants us to go deeper in our knowledge of God our knowledge of hope and our realization of resurrection power and here he prays that we would know the love of Christ this is my prayer this is my heartbeat for you if you put your faith in Jesus that there is immeasurably more to be experienced of God's love for you and part of the way we do that is that we don't stop immersing ourselves in where we know the love of God and that is through the story of God given to us in the Word of God and we know the love of God because we hear the story of the gospel the good news of Jesus all throughout the Scriptures and specifically the gospel the Matthew Mark Luke and John tell the story of Jesus and in John and first John says that this is how we know love that Christ died for us and wit so how do we know love we continually remind ourselves of the gospel we let our hearts and minds be rooted and part of that is planting ourselves in the love of cry so we'd spend time hearing about it as we spend time meditating upon it and as we do we make it our prayer that we would know that love and then Paul prays this doxology which is words of giving glory to God but but he says now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think according to his power at work within us and in I want you to realize this in your prayer life and this is this is I think where this should all move as we think about the implications of the gospel gospel for us is that God wants to do more than you can imagine all of us if we take some time today and maybe you do it and now as you start your day or as you wrap up your day or whenever you're listening to this podcast take some time and think about what would you like to see God do in your life and I think this is the this is this is a excellent guide for us of how to end our prayers and our thoughts about what we want God to do because what it does is it takes our hopes our dreams our desires and then says now to him who is able to do far more abundantly more immeasurably more than we just asked for to him be glory and help us to trust him and help us to believe that his love is higher that it's wider it's deeper it's stronger than our love but it's stronger than anything in this world and that God's power is immeasurably greater than we could ever ask or imagine and so we submit ourselves in prayer to the God who raised Jesus from the dead and we asked for him to work we asked for him to do the unimaginable in and through us and to him be the glory both now and forever amen
