IMG Academy (FL) vs. Ravenwood (TN) - ESPN Broadcast Highlights

mccarthy who was transferred in this offseason originally from illinois obviously when he found out they weren't going to play high school football he saw an opportunity to come down to img and that's going to be the big key tonight just playing within the offense and getting the football to all the playmakers that they have k-tron island wrapped up in the backfield he's an espn junior 300 running back [Applause] but nowhere to run there great penetration from that ravenwood defense and they'll have to stand on their heads tonight to contain this high octane img offense well ravenwood is does not have a big offensive line they're not going to match up in terms of height and weight but if they could disrupt with their quickness as we saw in that first play they can create some problems but here they're getting some running room lavassiere carroll takes that for a first down he's headed to kirby smart in georgia a great lineage of running backs there in athens and he hopes to be the next big one yeah well they ran to that left side which is anchored by the alabama verbal committee jc to the program but certainly is the best fit at the quarterback position wrapped up and thrown down totally blown up in the backfield christian johnson got to stew it first for the sack well he's a talented quarterback but there is no time watch how quickly the hedges collapse on him nowhere to go how to quickly pull that down a third and 17. into the backfield again this time stewart gets rid of it it's caught needing 17. it'll be close for nathan putty see where they mark this ball but a great play on third and 17 gives him a real good chance to pick it up well he gets a little time and i really like he's got a smooth release puts it right on the numbers and as you mentioned putty's able to kind of work his way up field a nice job after a rough start in those first two plays bouncing back tackle jacob thompson wide open for another first down stewart hits jake brinning stool the clemson commit actually trevor andrews who's the other quarterback on this ravenwood team and those two have actually developed quite the chemistry daniels was telling us there's no quarterback competition really at all between them in fact stewart probably says andrews is his top target his first catch of the night pressure coming stewart can't get rid of it this time and another sack for img this one belongs to nick james yeah when he gets a little bit of time and i stress a little bit he's able to quickly get rid of it kind of keep them at bay at times running for the first time tonight stewart kept it himself he lost the football it spilled out who's at the bottom of this pile img says it's them waiting for the official signal it is img football stewart lost the ball at the end of that run and img comes up is that its first intense a wave off the penalty img in business great pocket for mccarthy throws its caught for a touchdown there's a flag down but as it stands levassiere carroll into the end zone to open the score gavin marshall on for the extra point and just like that 7-0 img they cash in on the ravenwood turnover the raptors are pleased to have nashville as the official three-game meal provider and if you're just joining us from the volleyball game there is a lot of talent on the field you're going to see a lot of these guys on saturday and potentially sunday in the nfl if you see a logo on the screen that means a kid in this game is committed to play at that school 14 espn 300 players between the senior and junior class on the field right now and a lot of them belong to bobby acosta and img state title falling short in the state title game pressure coming on third and two and down goes andrews jordan hall the sophomore got him on the blitz and that punt is blocked img got in there and they'll have the ball at the 11-yard line nice job just it just collapses around him they've done a really outstanding job there from malik mcclain to state verbal of just taking it off the foot really very well executed and marshall puts it through so a 10-0 lead for img all the points coming off ravenwood turnovers img up early type ability certainly great praise pressure coming again andrews throws finds johnston did he get the first down yes needed five got five and a flag comes in at the end of the play as well [Music] and against img in the pocket here early on looking to get to that 45-yard line for the first down andrews throws it's intercepted anthony hundley stumbling bumbling to the 15. great catch from the big fella anthony the lsu commit did a great job that knocked the ball to himself and img is in great field position once again that was pretty they're going to just try to set up a middle screen here and hundley is right there in the middle josie athleticism to get that hand up knock it to himself and the big man got rumbling downfield [Applause] play action mccarthy lofts to the end zone incomplete but malik mclean was getting dragged from behind that's a clear defensive pass interference looks like he picked up a hitchhiker on that route and if not it probably would have been a touchdown almost still close to us junior coulson right there in the middle of your screen pump fake mccarthy now tucks and runs cuts it back diving to the first down marker the offense on the field handoff goes to tyler booker the right tackle but he uses all 300 pounds to pick up the first down they call that the jumbo package 600 pounds in the backfield that convert on fourth yeah coach told us that's called hegemon after their o-line coach you got the alabama commit jc latham leading the way and then tyler booker hurtling his way towards a first down g junior colson who eventually made the tackle the michigan commit you you keep the jumbo package out there craig first and goal well they also been talking about potentially kind of changing that look and making booker the lead blocker they've been put in some terrible spots two turnovers a blocked punt and they've tried to stand tall against a really talented img offense they asked for a mark here [Applause] it's ravenwood ball he looked like he got it live but the spot of the ball says turnover on downs and that is an img touchdown all right before the quarter ender said the one thing that could not happen down here was the turnover essentially as you mentioned jay it slipped out almost became like a handoff [Applause] and you know if you're the ravenwood defense like i was just saying it's brutal you've done your job you just got a fourth and goal stop and then the offense comes out and literally hands img a touchdown just like that it's 17 nothing in the opening five seconds of the second quarter take another look at this it really does look like a handoff oh yeah i mean he just lost the handle just went right between the numbers they just they were trying to get it there to to bring and stool the clemson commit on the on the little hitch route was not to be and ultimately on that play led to an incomplete pass three bodies flying to andrews somehow flings it up field and finds ross johnson [Applause] great play by trevor andrews a ton of pressure bearing down on him andrews kept it himself hits the hole hard has the first down and more back to back great plays from the quarterback trevor on the field tonight a lot of them belong to img but ravenwood fighting back down 17-nothing and that's a ravenwood touchdown to claw their way back in the second quarter brendan dickinson fought his way to open the scoring for the raptors yeah big drive there by the full back dickinson once again just working the action to coming across a little bit of misdirection pulling it just a little quick little pop past dixon has been open tonight on those short passes and just like that it's 17-7 just what ravenwood needed the number one ranked center in the nation quick hitter to ari allen he picks up the first down before comfortably getting out of bounds you mentioned nick saban we spoke with jc this week and he told us that saban called him on draft night right after the brown selector selected jedrick wilson with the 10th pick and sabin said hey you're watching the draft because i want you to beat that guy for us a top 10 pick i mean that shows you the the confidence that saban has in jc latham a great hole there and katron allen runs right through it another first down for img there we go one it's a fake punt on fourth and three needing to get to the 43-yard line this will be really close depending on the spot junior colson the michigan commit more than three minutes left of the second quarter andrews pressure coming throws it's caught another ravenwood first down sprinting down the sidelines is ross johnston and ravenwood is in business [Applause] only needing a yard smitherman in motion he gets the carry trying to turn the corner wrapped up and thrown down malik bryant denied the edge in the star sophomore defensive end with a big time fourth down stop the sophomore play action andrews hit as he got rid of it and it's caught what a grab trey thomas ran underneath it andrews got drilled on the throw and somehow it's a ravenwood first down [Applause] nice job of hanging in there with pressure coming down but i'll tell you what that ball hung up in the air for a while you're going to see he's going to take a shot but he still stands in there and delivers it it just kind of floated up there a nice job of running underneath it here's andrews play action and he sacked malik bryant off the edge on a third down stop for img you probably notice at times he'll you'll see a player show up at img and then a month or two later they'll be back at their old high school great spin move that's jakory brooks on his first catch of the night the alabama commit four-star wide receiver showing off the spin cycle here he's been quiet tonight but do you see the length he has such a fluid athlete the ability to make plays after the catch alabama has had a lot of success being quiet in the first half back-to-back receptions for brooks mccarthy back to pass again big hit oh my ari allen just got lit up by miles pollard take another look pollard to junior he's gonna quickly close in a nice job of leading with the shoulder really not launching himself really just nicely executed able to lay a big hit he knew it too hitting the whole heart into the end zone xavier terrell untouched for an img touchdown tyrell he's he's travel size he's diminutive but he is quick you see he sees some daylight and how quickly he hits it img has a national team which you are watching right now they also have a varsity team as well which is kind of their way they're a super talented jv almost like he set the school rushing record last year they faked it to colson they do it again a jump pass two for two on fake punts tonight trey thomas on the grab and ravenwood keeping this game alive with some creativity on fourth down [Music] coulson having the biggest impact on on these fake punts he runs up there he's able to keep it alive and just pop it down field and i mean right there there where they were on the field to you know jacob thompson the left tackle for ravenwood he's only 14 years old a couple of starters on that offensive line inexperienced pressure comes fires to the end zone for a ravenwood touchdown ross johnson on the grab [Applause] that touchdown [Applause] trevor andrews has taken some hits tonight but he's also really showing some really good accuracy on top of the toughness he's shown in the pocket [Applause] ravenwood responds [Music] running the ball here's levassier carroll shoving off tacklers and away he goes img touchdown lavossier carroll the georgia commit takes it to the house [Music] working right to that left side you see the nice hole opened up by the alabama commit jc latham then he gets to the second level is able to break three tacklers and bring it in on that first half they were operating with really good field position that second quarter weren't on the field a lot right on cue 15 plus yard run for j.j mccarthy showing off the wheels at usc and punching it in for another img touchdown xavier tyrell his second of the night a diminutive but quick back i mean it's just a lot of talented players at img but that was a nice hole i think we could probably get you uniform there jay get you through that hole for a touchdown well when you got jc latham pressure coming again swallowed up jt ellis on that sack back to back for img and they're working in pods like by position groups and that's kind of helped them it's precious bearing down and that is a michigan commit sacking a michigan commit as junior colson takes down his future teammate j.j mccarthy coulson's biggest plays tonight have come on special teams with helping to convert two fake punts here mccarthy just holding on to law and then coulson who's a tremendous athlete able to quickly close as he brings him down do you think he whispers in the ear go blue this game start to finish looking for the cherry on top and they get it through katron allen another img touchdown which way do you did they run jay left left j.c latham he's a five-star tackle for a reason and craig's compared him to a guy that was picked number 10 in the nfl draft and scary to think he's only been playing offensive line a little more than a year converted from the defensive line and he's definitely a guy that if he keeps developing will be drafted himself testing yourself every day in practice against the number two tackle in the 21 class and a number two tackle in the 22 class intercepted that's o.j burroughs who's headed to play for les miles in kansas how about burroughs not giving up on this play and finally dragged down at the 15-yard line coach told us burroughs had three interceptions on wednesday in wednesday's practice and uh well i added another one really just kind of a true ball hawk in that secondary that one just laid up there just playing center field reels it in and then see the return ability i think that uh les miles in kansas getting a steal there in o.j burrows the first year head coach bobby acosta you know spoke at length about wanting to build five star young man and certainly has a lot of five stars on the football field a terrific win for this group from braided to florida img academy wins it comfortably 45 to 14.
