Illustrator Tutorial - Isometric Illustration

[Music] everyone welcome back to camp keyframe and in today's video I'm going to go further where we stopped last week and last week we created this little automatic illustration and I'm going to expand that today in Illustrator to create a bigger illustration and here in Illustrator you have the tower equated last week with the isometric grid and my our geometric actions and if you haven't seen that I advise you to go check it out and what I'm going to do today is I have already drawn it here I'm going to expand this a little illustration into this shape here this little castle thingy so let's jump right in and we're going to first we're going to start creating these these little steps these parts and I'm going to do that by drawing the step twice as big as I want it so I'm going to click here let's see right there and I'm going to go one yeah one two I want four steps three four perfectly on the grid of course and then close that up yeah like that and because now I can draw let's see I want this four squares long because I want it I want to make it two squares wide so I'm gonna make it everything twice as big now let's give this the right color I'm gonna select it this one and I'm going to drag this with a while holding option drag it over here to make it fit and then let go and then press come on D 2 times 2 copy that action and then I'm going to draw in this shape here like that I'm gonna give it this color and I'm going to drag those over as well with a holding while holding option to make a copy and then pressing command D and come on D to repeat my last action and there I have my step already so I'm going to select this all press come on G to group it so now it's one thing and I'm gonna go to scale double click my scale property here and I'll go to uniform 50% so I just scale it down to 50% or now because I wanted to fit exactly in oops in here to keep it all over with because now it's exactly that shape as you can see delete that I'm going to put it here zoom in here a bit make it intersect there you go so now it's perfectly boom perfect step there I'm going to do the same thing but this time I'm going to go the other way so one yep two three four okay and I'm gonna go here this one yeah and let's see I'm gonna draw let's put it over here so we can see what we're doing more clearly yeah I'm gonna draw to the left now one two three four squares over right I'm gonna give this color I'm gonna copy a base it over here where it's intersecting I did let it go and I press come on D come on D I'm gonna put this command shift and bracket to put it on top like that I don't have to make these these ones in here because you can see them so I'm just gonna create the back side here close that one up with this color of course alright so now we have the other Astaire's I'm going to press come on G and then go to scale again and 50% by M pop I'm awesome I'm going to put that right underneath here at the bottom step zoom in for a perfect grid action are you sorry they're cool and now if I wanna whoops I'm gonna copy these and if I right-click them go to transform and reflect hit okay for my vertical reflect and then boom I have them going the other way around so I can now run all around this little tower here this color and I'm gonna make the floor here like that cool I'm gonna tread it over here to make a copy of it nice and drag it over here to make it copy it again and then I'm gonna press come on x2 cut it now gonna select this shape and then press command F to place it in place but it's gonna place it right on top of that shape and then I can press command in bracket to place it below that shape alright and what if I have here yeah then of course this step needs to go down gonna select all these and group them together for now and just place them up a little bit like that and then this one needs to go here come on X select this shape press come on F and then put it at the back you can really see it it's only this one step you can see but let's just leave it there nice and then let's go up once yeah alright and of course remember to create the right colors for the shading so I'm gonna give this these darker colors I forgot that on this one here but you can't see it so it doesn't really matter press command X copy to cut it go into this group and then press command F right there no we don't want to do that because now this shape is in front of this tower come on and I cut that I'm gonna paste it there and then select the tower press command F and down place it behind it with the bracket tool so now it's behind the tower alright and I can just expand this you know to here mmm and I'm gonna can delete this one I'm gonna expand this one over here and let me explain this down I'm gonna put an anchor point here put it right on that point put another anchor point and I'm gonna select that place it there this one here there you go all right um what now yeah maybe I'm gonna put this this whole thing up a little bit more yeah maybe just one square Boop do one more like get alright cool looking good so now we're gonna create these walls here and I can see that this one isn't isn't there's a little little little line there between you can see I'm going to do is open this shape and just delete just delete all of these because we don't need them I think this is right yeah okay all right and I'm going to expand this shape down a block boom do the same thing here I'm going to create two anchor points and put this one there this one over there right and then I can drag both of these down nice mmm yeah let's put it down a bit more select all of these points with your white arrow just do it like that all right cool nice alright then I have my little round windows here and my my gate my door so I'm gonna first create this little circle by creating a circle and giving it this color and going to select it and drag it over here or holding shift and option shift to make it go perfectly vertical or perfectly in a straight line and then holding option to make a copy of it let it go select them both go to your Pathfinder and go to divide yep and deleted outer part and this part can be this color which one did I make there on this one of course yeah and then group them together and I go to I so right boom alright nice copy I'm just gonna put this a little bit here I'm gonna try to recreate it as much as I can so it I know it looks good and I'm gonna select this window here copy that paste it over here and I make it a bit bigger and then I'm gonna copy this this stairs place it here and 1 2 3 4 5 6 so I want to put that right there one up maybe and put it on the front command shift and bracket to put it on top of your layers oh and it can go here on the grid always check your on the grid working nice and tidy and this one want to put there a bit more to this side nice I'm going to duplicate this stairs egg one time more like that yep that's perfect um yeah and I'm gonna create this pink floor and then we're going to do that like this see I'm gonna go need to go to here one more no that's one two four one two far let's see yeah right there and that right there let's check if it's on the grid is it yep good one as well oh yeah sure is boy alright this one as well and yeah we're gonna press command shift and bracket because now it's all the way at the bottom one even below my background and then pressing command + bracket to put it one layer above my background so now we have it like that that is great turn off this grid you can turn off your grid by pressing command : tower by the way on your keyboard just to see how it looks without the grid all right cool I'm gonna create a little wall here in this color like that poom and press come on X select my big floor and a big floor of Pink Floyd and breasts come on F so now it's built behind this I do that most of the time when I want to blaze my layers in a different arrangement I'm just gonna so I will just select a layer press command X and then select the layer I want it on top or below it select it and press come on F so it's nice and stacked the way I want it all right the basic shape is already there let's create a bit more of these sort of do some cleanup first so this is one little party I'm gonna select these this little stair this door and these windows press command X and go into this group press command F so it's now nice and tidy inside of that shape and I'm gonna select the floor and it fills their press command G and I'm going to select all of these shapes press command shift and bracket to place them all on top so now we have this little stairs this tower this whole part the stairs part and the floor nice let's see the let's do two bricks I'm gonna go in here and I'm going to just copy all of them and I'm gonna go in here place them right there or that group now I'm going to group them together like that I'm gonna maybe just change them around oops place them over there of course the more random the better but I'm gonna do this quick so I'm just gonna copied all of these above them turn them around and place them here and I copied these and then just whoops shift them around a little bit so they don't look the same I think I gave this group 20% yeah so we'll just give this where is it 20% I'm gonna go in here and then group that select this and just turn them around mmm-hmm all right poo 20% all right nice let's see what else what else the basic thing is there let's create some of these trees all right mmm I'm gonna go to my circle and I'm gonna go to ice with top play boom and put it right there and then I want to fill this shape select all of them and go to Pathfinder and go to the unite so boom it then it's one shape and I'm gonna create another circle a bigger one and go to I so at the top and let's put it right in the middle here yep and give it a green color all right and now yeah I couldn't just create this little shape here in the middle boom said our shape yeah it's a shape unite them as well make this a little bit smaller and I'm gonna do it is a bright color so I'm gonna brownish yeah like the bow is press come on G I'm gonna put this tree right over here maybe make this a bit smaller and then make it smaller again okay nice and then these little white dots here top yeah make the white or like yeah I wish I think they're the same color as a background yeah I'm gonna select this bottom layer and press come on - on my keyboard to lock that just load everything right now by the way I'm just gonna drag this out a little bit by holding option all the time and then you can copy all of these shapes so we have some more of them and I'm going to select all of them right now oh not the tree I'm gonna come on G to group them together and double click to all in that layer I'm going to create some smaller ones whoops yeah that's more difficult to quickly copy them oh my god I'm working really fast oh by the way I'm sorry because I don't want to take I want no I don't want this to take too long I'm gonna create the smaller ones later sorry if my clicking is making you crazy or mad I'm just in a fast mood right now get this done son boom err circle circle for you Bam Bam randomness galore alright it's like mold or something alright let's maybe make it a bit less heavy you know what you get the gist of it I'm just gonna copy just gonna copy these ones I made earlier if they look good already boom done so just creating a lot of circles and making it look random it's the key here and don't make it too many you'll want to fill it all up okay okay cool Oh some more bricks over here pressing command option two to unlock everything I'm going to lock the background again and I'm going to select some of these bricks let's just do these ones come on G to group them let's turn them around okay yep some bricks that's a whole lot of same stuff happening over here I'm sorry if it's boring do you want to get this illustration done yeah 20 percent and this group as well 20 high present boom [Music] nice alright then let's create this little wall here how did I do that already let's see I had a trick for that I think I'm gonna create create it right here so give this a top color and decide we're gonna have to do some fine-tuning maybe like some hand work later on to make it fit all right mmm-hmm how do they look here this small little or they're bigger they're higher yeah I'm gonna do that later all right so now I have this little basic shape here mmm let's do the same thing here okay cool press come on G want you and let's see what I what I can do now is place this here I'm going to scale that down to what if I do 50s and then that is it too big it's way too big maybe 20 20 or something is that okay is that okay me yeah that looks kind of right okay let's do this to this one as well that's 20% okay mmm I put it there for now yeah and what I'm going to do now is first I want to make them a bit higher so let's go holding shift and arrow key up no it's way too big on two three three three up whoops three points up one two three all right um double click it and open select all of these and if I put lace them right there yeah then there are too far off yeah but if I'm gonna okay I can duplicate it to this point here and then just select this and just go out a little bit or in the floor of course needs to know like that yeah all right cool cool I just made him just not at this height okay let's do that then it was just a wild guess yeah alright awesome press come on X and I select this one and press come on F so it's behind this little thing cool delete that one I could actually I would need to be at in here on this big part yeah I think I can copy them too right here and they're the same right and then put them on top nice and if I select them and the right click transform reflects of course I don't have to draw the other one but should make sure to get the right color this one needs to be this and darker parts like that and I think I can replace them here right oh wow all these little these little cracks ugly we don't want that we don't want out of that this is okay now yeah whoa what am i doing please remember the grid always remember to do it it's not snapping for any reason all right yeah it is fine all right and now I'm going to place them here again and one more to the end why isn't it snapping right there put it behind I'm gonna need to change the whole thing little bits like that yeah that's what I meant with with some hand work this isn't it right why is this not perfectly on the grid I hate that who it's not snapping for any reason okay so let's just drag this out a little bit okay I'm done now we're doing it perfect if it looks right it looks right I don't care anymore all right so now I can copy these over there let's see right there boom mm cut its place it on here maybe yeah and these three want a copy over there my frantically zooming in and out I'm sorry that's just how I work cut select paste poom and then I have these little rocks here I'm just gonna I'm just gonna copy these shapes I made there are not really shapes or just let these little kind of blobs you can make that with more detail if you want I just did it took the easy way out it's just the lead on everything else Wow not grouped together or anything silly boy okay put it around here somewhere I'm gonna select everything and just place it up a little bit on the grid of course one down is it is it all right look at Mary fine if I do say so myself let's just fine-tune this little bit so it's a group nicely done yeah all right cool I think we're done that is our main our basic our full geometric illustration in illustrator and
