Identity Theft - Why it's so devastating

this is a scammer at work and I have access to his desktop I can't elaborate on how I've got the access because I'd lose it in future but this camera is about to ask his victim for some identity documents she's in real trouble critical alert from Oregon you can already see some other identity documents from some of the people they previously scammed but this potential victims name is Nancy yes again they've just gain access to Nancy's computer by getting a type and help me dotnet I'm reading out the number that's displayed this gives these scammers the remote access that they need to carry out the scam they also install TeamViewer these scammers are running the refund scam this is where they make a call to the victim promising some sort of refund but they have to gain access to the victims computer first they have asked this victim to keep her email open this is because they will be registering various accounts in her name and will confirm it using her own email account now we are gonna simply verify your identity first of all okay so I believe Nancy you have a mobile phone with you they want to be able to blacken out her screen and prevent her from typing or using the mice so they install these features on TeamViewer they also want her to have her mobile phone handy because the bank will be sending various pin numbers to confirm transactions they need to be fully set up I'm saying just go and bring your mobile phone they want to reassure her with the language that they use take your time no problem you take your sweet time I'm not in a hurry once she confirms that she has her mobile phone handy they're ready to start into the scam they start by making sure that the black screen is actually working no problem and now you will see a black screen coming up on your computer screen can you see that it's it's black sleep absolutely correct so don't touch the computer okay leave the computer as it is now we are going to simply start the verification process of course there is no process all what's going on is that these guys are registering account in her name on coinbase comm coinbase allows you to buy and sell cryptocurrency a favorite of scammers as they registered the account they confirm the exact spelling of nancies for name surname and email address they don't tell her the password now I believe you have a driver's license with you right okay now we need to verify your identity because your refund is five hundred dollars so that's a big amount okay so you just do one thing just you have a printer just just put your driver's license on the top of the printer the scammer casually verifies her email account on coinbase and asks her to get a scan of her driving license he gave me okay okay in the meantime just confirm me on mobile phone number like most banks coinbase require a number of items of identity including a driving license on a phone number Nancy dictates her cell phone number believe your license because we are gonna verify your identity just to prove that you are a citizen of United States that's it okay first of all check your mobile phone you have received a text message just open up the text message yeah just open up the text message they carefully delete the registration email that was sent to Nancy's email account now it has it has a seven digit code just give me that code the scammers are using Nancy's own PC to register the coinbase account and they're also using her own mobile phone there's no way that coinbase can distinguish Nancy from a legitimate person who wants to register a coin B as a kind remember can you see congrats your account is ready your identity has been verified okay now you will see the back screen again just wait once again they delete any trace of the information sent by coinbase to this woman's email account with this level of ID checking the scammers can now send and receive digital currency that's exactly where they wanted to be next the open security settings now you'll receive under the text on your phone so just check it the text messages are always sent so that if someone did hack your coinbase account you would be able to verify the transaction that would happen but not in this case can you see that the victim believes that this is part of the refund process and there's no idea what's really going on no problem take your time give me the code give me the code this part is vital the scammers need a certain 16 digit secret code which will enable them to gain full access to the account 7 382 now you don't have to keep these numbers basically they took a photograph of the secret code this will allow them to verify any transactions they need to themselves rather than rely on the victim to do this for them ok now you will see your screen back again with your bank so that we can start the refund okay so just go ahead and log into your account it goes without saying that no one will ever ask you to log into your online bank account in order to facilitate a refund if they're a genuine company and they want to refund you they'll just refund you there's never a need to be logged in especially when someone's remotely connected and click on submit and it will take you to the bank once logged in it's obvious why the scammers are targeting victim she is a substantial amount of money in the account okay so in which account you want the money into your 50 plus checking or relationship checking which no genuine organization would need to know 50 plus checking you want the money to this account right okay I'm gonna simply open it up that account and I will give you the money to this account okay so now just be handy with be handy with a pen and a paper be handy with a pen and paper means that the scammer wants to distract the victim usually at this point in the scam the scammer will want to edit the HTML on the page to make it look as if he sent a payment however when the victim has multiple kinds as in this case it's easier to transfer some money from one of their own accounts into this one unless the victim checks or other accounts it'll look like money's been transferred in no it's just take a piece of paper are you handy with a pen and a paper okay now can you see your available balance over here as always with a refund scam they want the victim to write down their exact balance can you see it just write down that available balance on a piece of paper okay now why I have told you to write down the available balance because right now I'm gonna simply process the refill so once the refund will be processed your balance will change and it will increase okay am i blocking the screen again you can do be easily able to understand so right now you will see a black screen do you see a black screen okay alright so now which means that the refund will be starting right now okay just wait once again he carefully removes any evidence of the coinbase account and then he navigates his way to the transfer funds section of the online bank account after the refund will be transferred I'll let you know stole he pulls down a list of the victims owner coins he selects the one with the most money in it over a hundred thousand dollars and selects the one that she wants him to transfer the refund to between the scammers in the room they decide they want twenty-one thousand dollars out of this victim they give it the description refund transfer credit so that it looks even though it's been moved from one of the victims own accounts they ensure that they don't show the account summary showing that one of the accounts has just lost 21,000 and another has gained 21 K okay because you know there are many hundreds of customers getting the refund at the same point of time okay so try to contact her on her cell phone get her to check all of her accounts all of them and make sure that the money which is in her account which the scammers have said we paid you too much hasn't just come from one of her own savings kind that's how the scam works and then they okay make it look as if they've sent money when in fact it's your own money and she's being nice to them on returning some of that money and I fact it's your money so please just yeah if you could phone her and warn and that's how the scam works and as soon as you can please thank you okay thank you bye so it took a while to persuade her husband but eventually the message got through however to my horror the scammers accessed these people's bank account and I could see that the wire transfer had already happened I thought that the scammers were immediately going to try and convert this money into cryptocurrency and spirited away to India however a very short time later the scammers Hebrew keeping an eye on the account saw this the withdrawal have been reversed Nancy have got the message and now the money was back into her account again well done to her husband at this point the scammers had realized that the game is up and I observed them very quickly withdrawing from these people's PC success but only just in the nick of time I did contact Nancy a little while later to make sure that the coinbase account had been removed and that she had updated the password on her bank account the obvious advice is no one will ever give you a refund and won't accessed your bank account at the same time this
