[Music] as a longtime Cardinal season ticket holder I can tell you that tailgating before these games especially in preseason and early season is absolutely brutal over the years we've used spray bottles we bought a portable misting system that clamped on the ez-up it mainly just rained on us even buy some of these expensive Home Depot misting fans I finally decided that you know I'm just gonna build something lift rent on the Internet I saw a lot of different designs they basically were mostly the same thing their rice Chester buckets with a fan blowing down on ice I did see even a swamp cooler version they had a wet pad inside but this was pretty much what people were coming up with as an alternative I thought about maybe just buying a purpose-built cooler air conditioner or like an icy breeze but after investigating a little further I determined this thing would be way too weak to overcome the Arizona heat so I decided to go ahead and just build one myself I started with a ice chest and a ryobi 18v portable work plan I bought deconstructed and basically that made up my components all in all it came out pretty good but I soon found out what everybody else does that within about 10 minutes the ice is melting and this thing's blowing hot air and and it's a piece of crap I realized that's going to have to mount some radiators on this time to get the cooling that I really needed so I bought a couple of small radiators and I mounted them underneath the outflow tubes I also added an insulated divider to keep the hot air off the ice I figured since I already had a pump I might as well add one more radiator underneath the the fan to cool the incoming air and it really helped a lot at least if you're two inches away from the outflow tube the problem I had now was I had the airflow of an asthmatic dwarf the ryobi fan could not push the air through the three radiators so I set out to find something that would after much trial and error I came across a couple of real high flow blowers these things were awesome I was able to mount them under the airflow tubes tied them to a variable speed rheostat so I could turn them up or down as I need and they were awesome on game day usually we tailgate for a couple hours so usually we're running this thing at about an hour and a half before we fold up and head into the stadium usually running it at about half speed the blowers are so strong that that's as fast as you really need to run them it'll blow out an astronomer at half speed while keeping the noise level down so it's easy to carry on a conversation around it we often have people that walk by and have to see this thing and walk over and ask about it put their hands in front of they're always amazed at you know how cool the air is blowing out of this thing it really is very effective I mean if you can stay cool tailgating on an asphalt parking lot in Arizona this thing will keep you cool anywhere now here's a brief video showing the cooler an operation also I'm going to show the use of a digital thermometer so you can get an idea of what the temperature differential is between the incoming and outgoing air if you have any questions about any of this there'll be an email address at the end of the video you're more than welcome to write me thank you hope you enjoyed it the switch controls the water pump the motor control knob determines how fast the blowers are running this is actually faster than we usually run it the blowers are strong so there's no need to turn it up at a speed lower than this it's blowing plenty of cold air if you want to turn it up the thing will really pump a lot of air but obviously faster blower speeds means more noise we'd only do this if we had it setting away from the area where we're trying to pool a larger group of people at once temperature differential averages 30 to 40 degrees here's a summary of what I found out and also some of my opinions on ice chest coolers number one ice chest coolers with a fan blowing across ice it doesn't work very well for very long also any design that draws the hot area into the ice chamber is for obvious reasons a bad one computer type or desktop type fans while they're fairly quiet simply can't push enough air through radiators and also a portable cooler I believe needs to be portable no power cords strung to a vehicle lighter plug
