It's one of those talks where one learns almost nothing. Probably the main reason is that the author doesn't feel the need to go into hardly any of the specifics that supposedly justify the premises of his simple argument. Like he says himself on multiple occasions: "I'm speaking in sweeping terms".

Anyway, I was perhaps even more disappointed by the seeming lack of interest on his part to eliminate potential 'culprits' other than the increasing size of empires and the increasing power/brutality of its rulers. Essentially he's just advancing an argument that would make any imperialist/conquerer very happy and one that is doomed to be incomplete, if not wholly wrong. He doesn't spend much time reconciling/differentiating his view with/from others.. Just selling a book.
