- [Narrator] Today on
BCpov, the mountain bikers of YouTube converge on Whistler for Whismas, the opening weekend
of the Whistler bike park. But all doesn't go to plan. Daily mountain bike rider takes
a digger on the first lap. - [Fallen Biker] Oh geez. - [Narrator] My brain
doesn't want to cooperate, and Skills With Phil organizes a massive
train down Crank It Up. Located just two hours
North of the border, many make the pilgrimage up to
Whistler after a long winter. But today the weather isn't cooperating. It's been raining all night and the trails are extremely sloppy, but I'm prepared for the soggy weather and I've suited up in my
best wet weather kids. Ryan, the lone ranger, Nick from VanCan, Josh from
Daily Mountain Bike Rider, and Jordan Boothmaster are
waiting for me at the top. We've decided to warm up
on an easier trail first. - [Biker] Crank it up to warm it up. Holy crap. - [Narrator] Wow. Things are really wet. It's gonna be fun. - [Biker] All right, first lap. Oh, I'm getting sprayed
from Josh (chuckles) - [Biker] I'm getting
beat by the Boothmaster. - [Narrator] But it doesn't take long. - [Biker] Jeez! - [Narrator] For Josh to hit the ground. - [Biker] Holy crap. Geez. That didn't take long, Josh. - [Josh] I knew I was in a bad line. - [Biker] Yeah. Well you hit the tree. - [Josh] I did? - [Biker] Yeah, you went over the broom and hit the tree, I think. - [Off Camera Biker] Did you film it? - [Biker] I'm pretty sure - [Narrator] I did film it. So yeah, he did go over that
berm and he hit the tree. But what's even more impressive is he loses his gloves somehow. Josh, I give you a perfect ten for execution and keeping the
tradition alive. Last year, Josh ate it on the opening day as well. Come to think of it, I think he's crashed every
time I've ridden with him. Thanks for the great content buddy. All jesting aside, Josh was okay after this and we continued with our lap. (chuckles) - [Biker] He's going super slow. Ooop! Darn it. Come on. - [Narrator] It's always a
gong show with these guys. (biker exclaims) - [Biker] Oh god. It's so fun here though. Still break bones somehow,
still break bones. Just following these guys, you get so much flying up at you. - [Narrator] Once we
make it to the bottom, we've got a new visitor. Paul, the punter. - [Paul] Gentlemen. - [Biker] Hey, how's it going? - [Narrator] And of course,
time for another lap and no lineups. I guess the rain is
keeping everybody away. - [Biker] Oh, mine is
too long too. Holy shit. - [Narrator] After hitting up B-line, Smoke and Mirrors, - [Biker] This is pretty fun. - [Narrator] Blue Zeum, - [Biker] Oh yeah, wood! Nice. Get you processed wood. Oh yeah. It's sketchy. No brakes! - [Narrator] and Wednesday Night Delight. A couple of new challenges appear. - [Biker] There's Skills
With Phil! Oh there's Yuka! Van Girl Yuka! - [Narrator] With all
the YouTubers in place, a train down Devil's Pub is unavoidable. - [Biker] Don't brake on the wood! - [Narrator] And a bit of A-line tech. - [Biker] Oh it's not
too bad in here actually. - [Narrator] On the way back up, there's a lot of talk about Fade to Black, a
double black line full of wooden features. The trail starts out with a pretty sizable drop. Bill hits it first. And then Jordan, And VanCan. The next part of the trail
has a drop to step up. - [Biker] Oh yeah. - [Narrator] VanCan tows me into it. - [Biker] Fuck. - [Other Biker] Didn't
feel like he had it. - [Biker] Ah, I should
have been looking for, for their head. - [Narrator] All right, attempt number two. I follow VanCan in again. - [Biker] Oh, that was stupid. - [Narrator] Damn right that was stupid. And embarrassing too. I've actually done this whole line before but today was just not my day, I guess. - [Biker] That was sketchy. - [Other Biker} What'd you do? Yeah. I braked into the lift for them to step up and then
I basically went like this. - [Other Biker] What? Oh yeah. - [Biker] to the lip. Yeah, it was not the right thing to do. Yeah. I just, my brain just went "brakes!" and then I braked. - [Narrator] Feeling a little embarrassed, I head down and call it a day. Luckily the next day was sunny. I meet up with Paul and we decided to do - [Paul] Joyride! See, I've never done the lower one. - [Narrator] Like he said, he's
not done the lower section. And to be fair, it's a double black. (upbeat music) - [Biker] I've forgotten how this goes. All right. Like this. - [Narrator] The sketchiest bit
of Upper Joyride is probably this next section. - [Paul] I might go past
and film you coming across? - [Biker] Okay, sure. I'll just take my time. Things are still a little wet. Oh, it's pretty straight line, isn't it? (upbeat music) - [Biker] All right, going lower Joyride. - [Paul] Okay, yeah, let's
go see if it's open I guess. - [Biker] Yeah. I guess
you should be like, I hope it's open. Oh yeah. It's open. - [Paul] Oh shit. - [Narrator] Lower Joyride
has this big ladder roll. I show Paul how to do it as he looks on. (upbeat music) - [Paul] How was that? - [Biker] Pretty good. It's a small step at the
end, but it's not nothing. That is the problem. From here, it looks pretty massive. - [Biker] All right. Paul, this is his first time on Joyride. - [Narrator] He seems a
little nervous though. - [Paul] You ready? - [Biker] Yeah. Go! - [Paul] Did you say go? - [Biker] Yeah go. Go! - [Paul] Oh, right, okay. But
I will take this opportunity! Oh fuck! - [Biker] You shouldn't have looked. (laughing) - [Biker] I can get them, no, of you standing on top of it. - [Paul] Yes! - [Biker] Nice. It's not that bad. Right? - [Paul] No, it was so smooth. - [Paul] In like four years
of riding the bike path. - [Biker] There you go. There's another one coming right here. You want to look at it? - [Paul] Oh yeah, I want to look at it. - [Narrator] The next
feature is very similar to the first one, but a bit spicier. - [Biker] So yeah, you
can kind of drop that lip or roll over it. If I let you look at the
run, it's a sort of wide. - [Paul] Oh, okay, I see. - [Narrator] All the
sites to follow me in. Oh, and by the way, that's
Crank It Up, down below. - [Biker] Oh, you got it. It's not bad right? - [Paul] Oh there's
that (indistinct) joke. - [Biker] Yeah. Pretty good. - [Paul] I even got off
that and I was like, Oh, I should just do a little drill. - [Biker] Yeah. - [Paul] I was so nervous! - [Narrator] Now that Paul
has the two biggest features under his belt, we hit
up some technical stuff. (upbeat music) - [Biker] Everything's kind
of (indistinct) in here. - [Narrator] Onto Monkey Hands. - [Biker] Oh, he's got this sneaky line. There we go. Oh, a little drop. Oh, it fixes up nice. Oh, that used to be super clumpy. (upbeat music) - [Narrator] And into the
now massive lift line. - [Biker] Oh, it's so busy. - [Narrator] Later in
the day Yuka joined me after Paul had left. We heard that Phil was organizing a
big train down Crank It Up. (laughing and cheering) - [Narrator] Jordan and the
lone ranger are there as well. This could get a bit crazy. Phil starts in the back and
he'll try to move his way up. - [Other Biker] Alright,
Eric, coming in on your right! - [Biker] Oh there he goes. (upbeat music) - [Biker] Sick. It's getting rowdy. Oh, it's muddy here. Coming out under you. (laughter) - [Biker] Sick. On your right! Hey man. - [Other Biker] That was awesome. - [Biker] Yeah that was
sick. That was pretty wild. - [Narrator] And of course Whismas would not be complete
without a lockdown A-line. (calm music) - [Narrator] And finally,
bike park season this year, after a long winter, it feels so good to get airtime again and hang out with friends. I've not been to all the
bike parks in the world but I've been to quite a few and Whistler's pretty darn special. And for those wondering
about my road trip series, there's still a few more episodes coming. So keep an eye out for
those. But as usual, thanks for watching and stay gnarly.
