this is the Grand Canyon it's one of the most rugged places in America it has its own weather system it's over a mile deep and last year it tried to kill me1 emergency in February of 2023 I attempted a rim to rim to rim of the Grand Canyon our dates to accomplish this fell after one of the worst winter storms the area has ever seen so instead of hiking we had to Snowshoe out of the North Rim in 10 ft of snow a mile from the top my body began to shut down and I had to be rushed to the hospital by God's grace I was given another day to live but I wanted to go back I knew I needed to go back to face the fear head on but let me just say we are not promised tomorrow last time I did this I was um ready to just have the time of my life and almost died and now I'm going back so massively nervous also excited weather's going to going to be better cross your fingers uh we've seen no snow in the forecast no snow on the south rim at all looks like the Tropic is compared to the last time we were there so here goes nothing how are you feeling I'm just glad that there's no snow train this time that's that's my main thing but yeah also excited and nervous [Music] okay we're at hermit's rust and slight anxiety okay that's a lie extreme anxiety pretty nervous uh no snow weather's great looks great feel prepared um am I prepared we'll only find out time will tell motto on this trip is uh God Bless America don't let Dan die that's the motto don't let Dan die [Music] myin maybe feeling good I should be feeling good at a myin but I think what what's happening to my brain right now is that just the amazing beauty of this place has sort of taken my mind off of everything that happened last time so that's super good but honestly I'm more concerned about coming back up out of the canyon cuz that's where everything went wrong last time and I know it's nothing like last time but sometimes I feel like this is a really bad [Music] idea checking in mile 6 doing really good um one thing my trkking pole the car bite tip snapped off so maybe it's time to try out some new trekking poles we'll see but um anyway we're doing great uh good spirits I feel confident I don't feel the anxiety nearly as much the weather is is crazy good so we think we have about five more miles to go all downhill so and uh this part of the trail right here is uh gosh I think it's the bu buer buetti we'll throw it up later yeah we'll throw it up later uh Trail anyway super flat little rugged kind of gnarly in some spots just a tiny bit of scrambling not bad at all uh but that's about it so I'm feeling good [Music] [Music] [Music] okay I know the light is low tough to see me but uh em is not feeling too hot he's got a fever his body's aching he's usually an absolute Beast he out hikes me for sure and uh so we're getting to Camp a little bit later than uh we had anticipated um so we'll see how he is tonight get him in his bed he's got the Zen bivy tonight so that'll be comfy for him um so we'll see how he's in the morning and kind of plan from there so uh next shot will probably be camp that was a big day um at camp and I'm using the zpack offset Duo so this is my second time using this I used it back in August I think uh in titom base and then this is new to me this is a rat sack it's just like a a metal almost like a chain mail bag to keep well rats and mice and rodents out of your food which is kind of cool so we've been seeing some pretty sizable rodents around here um yeah we're beat man it's already 7:40 and uh EMT how you feeling I'm excited to get some food and water and me color night to be honest I don't blame you man so I think that's what we should do go to [Music] bed [Music] spent quite a bit of the day here it's a little bit after 11:00 so we got a kind of a climb out of here and then we're going to head to the uh Monument Creek we're going to take the tono Basin Trail so we like 8 N milish I think yeah shouldn't be too terrible Hamed up with some water 3 l is what I got so should be hot possibly is what I've heard exposed exposed and hot so yeah could be using that water frequently so we'll see EMT update how you feeling not too hot um I felt really good when we got back to Camp last night but I think part of that was um the ADV Villa I had taken um uh I slept pretty good but woke up feeling really feverish still and I'm I'm definitely not feeling so hot but I'm just about gring out those miles I'm thankful that today is supposed to be pretty flat um so we'll make it [Music] through [Music] almost camp and uh I think emt's feeling a lot better actually I'm beat this place is uh not kind to people so I'm hoping that tomorrow I'm not going to be completely demolished uh to you know start the ascent out of here so I don't know I still got a ton of anxiety about it a ton I don't feel like I really have much to worry about but at the same time I'm also reliving some horrible memories so anyway not to be a debie Doner but uh um I'm looking forward to bed tonight looking forward to the Zen bivia I'm using and uh yeah we'll see you at [Music] camp we we are here um this is where I'm sitting at my tent there's a little spur Trail down to the creek which is Flowing which is great tomorrow we're going to hike out to the junction to uh hermit's rest Trail and we're going to hike out that way so the plan tonight set up eat uh chill out replenish nutrients drink a bunch of electrolytes calorie calorie calor and then just get some good sleep and good rest and get up real early so we'll see you on the flippity Flop later good morning uh it is as scent day had out of the candy today um we've got if I had to guess I I think we're going to start our actual Ascent around like 2,000 ft something like that and then we've got maybe gesh I don't even know 3500 to 4500 ft of elevation over 8 miles it's nothing like what happened to me last year but it's not about any of that it's the fact that I'm here again doing it again reliving something that was the worst experience I've ever had um and it's so much anxiety I can't even describe so up early uh just going to just make sure I'm hydrated get packed up get going early um you know get breakfast that kind of thing and yeah so here goes nothing here goes nothing if you're out there and you uh experienced anything like this before let me know in the comments below I would love to know [Music] that [Music] I can't believe we just climbed out of there yeah it's not that bad that's wild now we uh just got to go up there but that's not the rim it might be I mean there's a lot of big trees up there look at the you have the big tree I I'm thinking there's like a 10 times higher well maybe are you lying to me I don't know that's the thing about the canyon it's kind of hard to tell like that act that could be the top I mean look at look at the taller trees on the top it does look like I hope it is and there could be like another a couple thousand ft you just can't see we're fine that's the fun thing about the candies you never really know until you get all right all [Music] [Music] right [Music] as I began the ascent I remembered what the doctors had told me to do take breaks often and drink lots of water so that's exactly what I did it was still no easy task extreme elevation exposure and then I could feel anxiety starting to set in at one point I almost had a panic attack but then something absolutely amazing happened all by myself I had this emotional experience where I just broke down and I felt God take the weight of the anxiety off of me it was as if he himself was helping me up out of the canyon yeah all right yeah [Music] man
