money of Chucky 2009 and I live in Texas I absolutely love it here we are we have all four seasons which includes a pretty mild winter it doesn't get that cold here and it doesn't stay cold for that long but it still gets cold enough and for long enough that I've wished for quite some time that I had a proper wood stove to put my shop so today that's what we're going to be working on so this is an ultra-low budget production trying not to buy anything for it period other than like the the pipe stuff that I didn't have essentially all this this it's three medium duty truck rooms these are 20 inch wheels and I got them for free so you know you could probably buy these for a couple bucks apiece locally to you they're really easy to find they're not worth a whole lot and all we did is earlier we came and we plasma cut out the center sections like where that's bolted onto the trucks hub and so we're gonna do is we're gonna take three of these and we're gonna have two of them face like this and then stack this third one up here kind of like that and we're gonna build it some feet we're gonna build it to end sections and over this wider face here what we're gonna do is we're gonna cut out a nice wide flat spot so I could theoretically you know stick like a pot or a seed beads on here or pot of coffee probably won't use it but the inner survivalist didn't we wants it anyway so yeah I guess we might as well just take these into the shop and start getting them and weld it up [Music] [Music] [Music] so Marty this bill and it's going to be attaching these two sets of legs and feet that up it basically down a whole lot to it this is some four inch square tube that was actually given to me I have a bunch more of it I figured this was a good opportunity to put some of it to use here and I cut the same width to 35 degree angles for in my opinion maximum aesthetic this and cap them off for the same reason we have to do is fit these feet up onto the bottom of the stove and this is a little tricky especially tricky to replicate but I think we can get one leg on here properly then we can lay the stove down and it'll naturally rest on the other one if outward supposed speed it should be easy to perfectly position so what I've done is I've taken three of these sections that we cut off you know from there and I have them set up here and I'm going to use these as spacers so hopefully if this works the way that's behind yeah look at that it's gonna be pretty easy to support this leg just like such and now I'll I ball it for maximum precision this make sure it's got to go over a little bit and we'll get this thing where we want it yeah I've been alone are there that should be good alright in that workplace so now we have this thing centered we know that it's on here school and in relation to the rest of the stove and I've learned if you can support something on blocks to position it a way to hold it steady you can get about if you think lined up pretty perfectly so let's flop this thing over and I'll set up the second leg yeah all right yeah keep coming all right I got it got it I'm gonna push it back here to write a little bits of us firmly on okay yeah try to take some of the weight of that side all we have to do is wrestle this one over here [Music] noise slight change of plans basically I went out over the weekend and picked up this this door this is actually part of a barrel stove kit you know those things you take like a 55-gallon barrel and you you know you can find really cheap and you buy the door like the legs and everything you make a wood stove out of it so evidently these things a lot of people really like them the problem is is we all know 55-gallon drums they're essentially made out of paper thin steel whereas these rims are almost a quarter of an inch thick so uh you know I didn't want a barrel stove you know hence the reason we're doing this but what I got to look at these kits I realize you know this is actually a fairly nice door you know it's pretty heavy-duty it's all cast its casting could be a little bit thicker on this thing but it's you know it's fairly respectable it will hold up really well and I could get the door and this little thing of a jigger here for like forty six bucks out the door and you know I can't build these for that so that's what I did we're get we're using a barrel stove kit now and I got Seth over here working on drilling out all the holes that go in front of this thing forward that door bolts on it's held on if I like our many bolts toises and then we're gonna have to plasma cut out it's gonna take the all Hypertherm and slice out the two openings here we got this larger one where you toss in wood and letters from exes and whatnot then there's this bottom one down here which is our air inlet and I got to remember to cut on the outside of the line this time normally I cut on the insides but like since I traced this this is a little smaller than what we traced obviously so hopefully we can make some pretty quick work of this here [Music] [Music] all right so I decide I don't want a flat you know like a cooking surface or maybe something that I'll lay pieces of metal on to get them heated up I can't put Mindy on the Trinity reason and I think size-wise for this I want to make it just looking at this I think about 12 inches by 9 I think like 12 by 9 that seems like a decent station number to me so let's cut out a few sections of Steel for this and then we're gonna have to like remove a big section of this and weld on our flat weight [Music] that's up [Music] so we've taken the stove to be off of the welding table and set it down here on the floor which is good because now we can reach up to the top of it but it's also bad because now I have to kneel down on the cold hard concrete to work on this but luckily today I get to try out the brand new flame resistant smash pad welding mat from our channel sponsored Black Stallion now this thing is very comfortable works to alleviate the aches and pains that come from kneeling down to work on a project like this and it's made from owl what's referred to as silicone coated red fiberglass that's Kevlar stitched on top of that and includes flame resistant fasteners it is my opinion extremely well built and it works to form around your knees or elbows or whatever for maximum comfort and support now this is a brand new product and it's now a mainstay in my shop because once I tried it I really didn't want to go back to working directly on the floor again if I could help it this little mat has infinite uses and for its quality I found that it's quite well priced I'll put some links in the video description below for those who might be curious about it alright YouTube's I've made a few modifications to this stop breaking the rules might need it up quite a bit I smoothed off the sides of this the other thing I did is I 45 to approximately off the front of this thing and since the bottom of this bracket here was blocking much of our airflow I removed it and now all we have is the arch should we need there's no extra material so we'll just slide this thing in and that looks now it's a toot my own horn here you tube but that looks pretty good what this thinks it's fairly low in so what's important about this is it means that now I can fit a larger piece of fire went in between the top of this grate and the top of the door here this section this dimension is a little bigger than it was before I trim this and the other thing is since we removed that material on the bottom of the fire degree we can now get in a lot more air that could pass through there they can pack through this little vent so yeah I really really like that you tube you know the place I bought this door from but they sold those grates but they were like really really ugly looking at cast cast iron grates and they were like 50 bucks I wasn't gonna do that so I built this in like half an hour for basically free material left over from something and it was so totally worth it in my mind at least but yeah look at that YouTube we uh we got it that's that's it the wood stove is now complete I guess all we have to do at this point is install it pretty happy [Music] [Music] yeah [Music] [Music] whore these so Fife has been installed we got our four sections of tubing up plus two going over and then it lets now outside of building there so I think this is about time to light this up now since we are of course in a welding shop we'll be using an owner's manual as an ignition source and also the remains of a skid as and stuff to burn and lighting it with the torch yeah so I have very little wood stove experience when finding out this is the way to do it that was best yeah look at that it's burnin oh this kind of fires hot still yeah so I took like five or six pages of owner's manual there or a little more and wrapped them up and with some sticks from around my property and hopefully the steaks and hopefully once it's going all dampers closed okay dampers open yeah look no smokes going out I love it all right it looks like it might actually be starting to burn and I can put my hands out here and be a little bit heat and hopefully this will get our fire going a little bit [Applause] all right YouTube so this thing has stopped for the most part stopped tire smoking us out because there's you know a little bit of residual rubber left on the rim of course and it was really smoking here when the on the stove pipes were off gassing but that is completely over with now and I really like this thing so far you know it's it's working pretty well I got the door open just a little bit here but we pull this back see we got a raging a fire or hold skids in here and hopefully next week I will go and take the army trailer and one of my trucks and we'll bring back a whole bunch of firewood but in the meantime I've got like several skids worth floating around here so yeah I really really like this thing you too but first ever wood stove it's honestly almost a little hot to be standing here right now and even with the door open behind me it was like noticeably noticeably warmer just inside the building so it seems to be working I'll leave this open for now just a little bit but uh yeah I don't think one thing I don't like about this barrel stove kit thing is I don't think it lets enough air through so we have to leave the door cracked you know in a house or something you probably don't want to do that but since this is a metal shop and you know it's a steel building with a concrete floor there's really nothing flammable in here except the firewood you know and it's a ventilated building it's not airtight under ideal circumstances nor should it be because then we die from the smoke I think I'm pretty pretty ok with that and yeah look at this it's just smoking away now I set this up so the mill will clear the the back of the stove and and there shouldn't be any interference issues there now with the stove cranking for a while the mill itself is still like it's it's warmer it's noticeably warmer but I can still rest my hand here so we're not going to be burning the paint off or doing anything bad to the metal that makes up the mill so we have that and we have a nice side view and honestly dudes it is cozy as friggin here with this little stove so I'm really really happy with how it came out yeah I can feel the heat radiating through my overalls here and yeah so really really happy with the really not a whole lot I would've done differently on it and now that it's stinking less because all the paint and the tire slime is burned off we're doing pretty well so really happy with this thanks for watching everybody I hope you guys enjoyed the videos and I'll see you next time
