I watched over 100 2v2 replays from Diamond 1 to Diamond 3 and here are the top 10 mistakes that I see players making in no particular order real quick before we get into the video I just wanted to say that since you're all says is currently in an extended off season until 2024 and I don't have a team for next season I'm gonna be offering my time to you guys to humidify with some one-on-one coaching or even team coaching sessions link will be in the description below book now is when they have limit availability thank you love you okay bye first we have positioning too aggressively too often so in this situation we're four on offense we beat out an opponent our teammate comes in to collect the ball and right here he's gonna be challenged by the opponent in net instead of turning forward which is what this player does we now turn forward we're leaving all of these options of lost challenges open behind us it's much more effective if we position neutrally keeping our position angled kind of across the field so that if something works out forward we're able to turn into it and if something works out for the opponents we're still able to get back and cover it so we just turned too aggressively in this position when there are options that our opponent has to beat our teammate we see this player actually beats out two opponents on challenges and gives his teammate a really good position to score on the net but in this scenario again he pushes up super aggressively into the corner and his teammate misses the shot and that puts him in a position where he can't make a save on anything bad that happens and it ends up resulting in a goal for the opponents in this scenario as soon as he beats out the second player here and his teammate has the opportunity to push forward instead of aggressively pushing to the right here again playing a much more neutral position is going to be what benefits us we want to push in and get in behind this play so that in the scenario where his teammate can't shoot and score this maybe the opponent blocks it the play ends up going over to this corner or it freezes in front of net again we have a neutral position where as we follow this play forward we end up in a position that we can deal with any of the outcomes if this play goes across a net this way we can still get around to it if the play gets pushed into the corner over here we're already in position to deal with it but pushing up this aggressively on the right side of the field just puts you in a position again where you're no longer covering any of your teammates blind spots or any of the open spots on the field that your teammate leaves in a 2v2 and this is something I see hurting Diamond players a lot and in this specific scenario we end up losing a goal and actually getting scored on as a result now the solution to this one is simple guys just position more neutrally behind your teammates instead of so aggressively across from them or in front of them in these offensive plays next up failed Wall play attempts now while play mistakes are a mechanical error obviously but it doesn't mean we can't fix it and I see this happening a lot in Diamond here's a free ball going up the wall the player who's following this ball up the wall has 81 boost and here they have space to make an AirPlay it could be an air dribble it could be a flip reset it could be really anything you want in the air here but this is a really good opportunity for some kind of aerial play and there's just an error the backflip is made we don't get control of that ball now this ends up being a giveaway instead of a possible attack on net in this clip we have a player on defense defending the corner his teammate gets a clear and now he has a play off the wall he pushes the ball forward his opponent's in a bad spot he's beaten this other opponent up field and now here he has an opportunity to keep this play moving forward keep possession of this ball somehow but he jumps off the wall here and misses his play misses his touch and this is just a possession giveaway to the opponents again just another missed opportunity at applying pressure to our opponents so if you can be that Diamond Player who's much more consistent off the walls then you're gonna be making a huge impact on your team much more consistently at this rank the solution to this one is just getting the Reps in push the ball up the wall in free play as many times as possible so that you get consistent about taking the ball off the wall and keep it simple just go for some simple air dribbles or whatever mechanic you can do off the wall that you can keep consistent you can do this in free play or one of my personal favorite training packs is the wall to air dribble by IP Joker it's three really simple setups but make sure that you also practice in free play so that you get the variation in it's not the same angles every time so you can take the ball off the wall from any position [Music] I also see challenging when you're beat or challenging too early as the last man back in this scenario we see this player is playing defense and his teammate Scuba Steve is rotating back however this player decides to challenge just a little bit too early now in this scenario he's last man back and it's important is Last Man back that you buy enough time for your teammates to get back so that once you've challenged if you get beat your teammate should be in a position to be able to follow that you shouldn't really challenge a play when there's only one challenge possible in 2v2s you always want to try and layer your challenges so that you have somebody who's able to follow up behind you after your challenge just in case you get beat and in this scenario Scuba Steve is in the middle of a flip and he's flipping directly back to the corner boost and we decided to challenge here which just doesn't give Scuba Steve enough time to get back to Net in the case of this flick beats the challenge [Music] now in Diamond I also see challenges like this replay made a lot where in this scenario the opponent has him beat to the ball he has a quicker line to this ball and he still Dives in and challenges anyway it's really important that you recognize when you're first to the ball versus when someone else is first to the ball that way you can decide whether or not a challenge is actually the right decision and in this scenario a better play would have been to fake off of the challenge because we know that we're beat so if we pull off and fake the challenge then we force this guy to commit to this play and our teammate will be back and we'll be able to then stack two challenges against one opponent because this guy will be out of the play after making his play here so if we faked right now we'll be under this play our teammate will have anything behind us and so while we're onto this play we can decide to jump up and challenge it or we can stay low and wait for the opponent if the ball is going to drop but we just have more options and again we stack two challenges on top of each other instead of just diving uh one challenge at a time hoping that we find something the solution to this is just being a little bit more patient and a little bit pickier with what you decide to challenge when you're going for a challenge make sure that you're at least gonna 50 50 and if your last man back make sure that you're delaying as long as possible to give your teammate enough time to rotate behind you and get a follow-up challenge sometimes this even means letting your opponent shoot the shot on net and you making a save because if that's what it takes to give your teammate enough time to get back and follow up it might be better than diving in missing the challenge and leaving the net open jumping for mid-high balls now one of the most important mechanics at every rank is taking good shots if you have the opportunity to take a shot and you don't score it then that's a missed opportunity and that's exactly what we see in this scenario this player is waiting mid and his teammate is going to pop this ball out in the Midfield I think he fakes out one of the opponents so the ball just bounces up middle now this player has a lot of space and a lot of time to get to this ball and the ball is not so high that he has to double jump It's low enough that he can jump save his flip and use the flip to add power to his shot and add a little bit of unpredictability for the opponent what we see here because he double jumps it becomes really easy for the opponent to predict the outcome of this touch and he's limited to what types of touches he can make he actually kind of over jumps this ball as well and if you save that second Dodge it's gonna be a lot harder to over jump a ball that's bouncing so what we want to be able to do is recognize that this ball isn't high enough to double jump so I'm going to jump once boost to the ball and then use my flip to flip through the ball and add power and a little bit of unpredictability to our shot again saving that second Dodge can be so useful instead of just double jumping so another example here this attacker goes for this hit over the opponent this is an opportunity to score potentially the opponent doesn't jump to save this so if instead of a double jump we saw this player flip through the ball there is a window here where he could flip into this and possibly hit this into the net over the opponent before the opponent reacts and jumps so at this level I see a lot of double jumps for Aerials that just don't need to be double jumps and we can get a lot more value out of that second jump using it as a flip instead the solution to this is training your muscle memory on how long you're able to hold on to that second Dodge after your first jump it's about a second and a quarter so I made a quick little training pack for you to go through and make sure that when you're practicing this training pack you hold on to your first jump because that will help you get height quicker and it'll allow you to get higher up before your Dodge timer runs out practice putting these shots on net using your second jump as a Dodge next we have poor dribble control now when it comes to dribbling it's really important that we keep our dribbles nice and clean that way we're threatening our opponent to beat them so like here for example this player's dribble just isn't threatening enough if we look at it from the opponent's point of view the ball is too far back on his car and that's why this player is able to challenge easily because right here being that this ball is so far back on this car there's really no flick that threatens the net so we don't have to challenge if he's gonna flick it it's going to be this way so once it becomes somewhat threatening even here still the flick can only go this way so there's no real threat and again now here he drops the ball low enough the opponent can challenge safely the entire time here there really is no threat from this dribble there's no there's no threat to the net that forces the opponent to challenge and that's what allows them to just cleanly cover everything it's important to keep the ball nice and clean on our car so that when we're dribbling from our opponent's point of view there's always a threat so we want this ball a little bit further forward up on the nose of the car here we can see another opportunity for this player to dribble but the lack of control in the dribble is what just gives the ball away if we're able to get control of dribbles like this we can actually threaten a lot more on our opponents and create more opportunities so if we have control in this moment we're actually in a one-on-one technically if we can get control and turn in field we can probably flick this on that and possibly score so it's just another opportunity missed and it's just in Diamond creating opportunities is going to result in goals a lot more often than you might think the solution to this is just grinding out dribble training I made a dribble training pack a long time ago but here it is on screen I still think it's super helpful just get really really comfortable with being able to dribble the ball on your car without using any boost so only using gas and also in turn get really comfortable dribbling with only using boost and not using gas at all when you're dribbling you have to use these two at the right time sometimes you have to use one or the other sometimes you have to use both sometimes you feather sometimes you hold but you have to get comfortable with using them separately and that way it helps you understand how to use them together once you get comfortable with this then start focusing on getting those dribbles controlled enough to where you can flick the ball at any moment that way your opponents can't challenge you and if they do you can flick it right over them if you can do this in Diamond then I promise you getting controlled dribbles is going to throw your opponent's defense off a lot a mistake I see happening very often at this rank rushing your touches [Music] so this exact scenario and this replay is something I see a lot this player is getting back on a defense he has full Boost the opponents clear the ball to him for free he has time and space to make a play but instead of doing something controlled this player just rushes and panics into a clear and that gives the ball away to the opponents now at higher levels players in this position are going to take their time use the space that the opponents give them and really make a valuable play out of this situation with a hundred boost we could come in and we can pop this up for an air dribble forcing one of the opponents to challenge us or possibly even taking it to net and scoring we could touch this ball over to the side where this opponent is giving us space and this opponent is going back so we have space to go up the wall maybe or we could keep it close and start a dribble really just anything here that is controlled would be a more valuable play in this example we see this player playing offense challenging the opponent on their side of the field and he actually gets a really good dunk that puts this ball into his possession for free he has time he has space and he has a little bit of boost he definitely can make a play happen here but instead of taking that time and space at his opponents giving him who's sitting in that still we see him just rush a touch and try and hit the ball over quickly try and get it hard hit fast and this is kind of the the mentality in Diamond that most players have is if I can hit it hard and I can hit it fast it's going to catch the opponents off guard but if your opponent is patient like this scenario here where they give you that time and space you want to use it if we come down we get a catch on this ball that forces our opponent to now challenge us if he wants to keep us from having any threats on that or he's just gonna have to react to a shooting which that's really difficult to do from positions like this we can catch this control this and threaten to flick on net if he decides not to challenge us we can dribble it towards his net and go for a low 50. if he does decide to challenge us we can flick it right away or we can even fake it and drop it below him and just push it in the net for free potentially so using that time and space super crucial the solution here is just recognizing when you have that time and space using that space to get a strong enough first touch so that it puts you in a position of an advantage and then once you're in that position of an advantage using that advantage to outplay your opponent now in contrast taking too long to make a play now taking your time isn't necessarily a bad thing but taking too long to make a play is here we see this player taking his time setting up his dribble and getting control this baits the opponent into a challenge that he's able to then shake and get under this player really good but here now he has a 1v1 and he's taking his time getting the ball into a position to threaten a shot on net because of this the opponent's able to just challenge him for free again this is where dribble control comes in being able to put this ball into a position quickly enough to threaten that flick so that your opponent can't challenge if we look at it from the opponent's point of view we can see it's super easy for him to take his time and set up and control his defense against his opponent's attack because there really is no threat on his net in any of these moments because of this he gets this challenge for free and the ball just goes straight in the net in this scenario we see this player's teammate win a challenge in the Midfield and that puts the ball up field with nobody to defend it this player flips around to it gets on the other side of it and now he has an open net but because this player takes too long to take his shot on net or line it up the opponent's able to get back and land a solid challenge in this scenario we have to be able to get around this ball quickly and put a shot on target right away because this is definitely a missed opportunity the solution to this is being confident and decisive in your plays before you make them for example in this play when the ball goes up the wall once I get to this position because I can't see my opponent I've already decided what I'm going to do based on where my opponent is if my opponent's in the backfield then I'm gonna pass this ball middle and if my opponent's close to the play Under the ball then I'm going to take a shot on that that way once I get up to the position to make the play all I have to do is see where my opponent is since I see him in the backfield I know a pass middle is going to be the best if I see him underneath me then I'm going to take a shot in this scenario because he's in that backfield I opt to take that pass into the Midfield where my teammate has space and it creates a scoring opportunity spinning too much in Aerials now this is definitely something I've seen a lot in diamond and the over spinning I think comes from the higher level players doing a lot of spins in their Aerials but in this scenario the defender has a good line to defend this air dribble when he takes off he's even in line with boosting up and possibly getting in front of this or challenging on the backboard but as soon as he starts to spin we see him spin away from the ball and now he's boosting in the wrong direction he has to spin more just to correct and get to it but at this point it's just too late he's boosting the wrong direction for too long another ball bounces off his backboard and goes into his net for free so I really think he probably would have had at least a challenge on that ball if he didn't spin on his takeoff in this scenario we see this player get a really solid Challenge on the opponent gets the ball behind him sets it up for a possible aerial play but as soon as he takes off the first thing he does starts spinning immediately he's now pointing himself away from the ball not boosting towards the ball has to over correct now use even more boost so we see him start this aerial with about 70 boost or so 60 boost and by the time he finishes without even touching the ball he's at zero this all starts from that first initial spin that pushes him inner direction away from the ball instead of just prioritizing getting lined up with the ball first making your aerial and then making the adjustments in the air to whatever is necessary the solution here is to keep your Aerials simple and efficient the less moving you do the less calculations you have to make and it should make your Aerials feel a lot easier matching the speed of play now when I say matching the speed of the play I don't necessarily mean you have to be going as fast as the play is currently going at all times what I actually mean is that you should be moving the pace of the play that is about to happen so that you're always ahead of the opponents so in this scenario here the opponent has a dribble and he gets behind the ball he's able to get a touch and from here he can speed the ball up with a shot because there's potential for the ball to be speeding up then the defender should be speeding up here as well to match that pace that's possible because the defender doesn't speed up we see the Gap closing and the entire time he's now afraid of this shot coming so he feels like he has to pre-jump it but if he continued to speed up and Shadow defend back into net then any shot that the opponent could take in this position would stay in front of him if he Maps the speed of the play then he'd probably be covering this play for a little bit longer a little bit more effectively and his teammate would then have time to get back yeah in this play we see right off of kickoff the opponents have an opportunity to shoot this ball on net or clear the ball up field from this position if this player doesn't speed up to get ahead of this then he's out of the play so we see this ball fly over him and he now has no influence on whether or not this ball goes in his net instead what should happen is as soon as the kickoff is finished and he recognizes right about here that this player can come in and speed this play up he should be speeding up to get ahead of it so that any play that happens again stays in front of him and all the plays in the game are coming to him instead of him having to catch up to this play and really having no influence over it the solution to this is always moving in anticipation to touches seeing what's possible and speeding up according to what they could do not what you think they're gonna do so for example in this play on my way back I see that it's possible for my opponent to shoot so the first thing I do is I get moving supersonic so that if he shoots this ball I'm moving as fast as possible to stay ahead of that shot once he does shoot it I realize this shot's moving slower than I am but even if it was moving as fast as me I was already ahead of it I slowed down a little bit and I get that touch here we even see it happen again the opponent has the opportunity to hit the ball and so we see that I'm full boosting getting ahead of that shot so that if that hit comes it's just a pass to me instead of a shot over me now I know I said this is in no particular order but I did save the most common mistake I see happening for last leaving the play for Boost unnecessarily on this scenario this player makes a good play up field the opponents now have possession and when the opponents have possession we want to make sure that we're always paying attention to the play and trying to be a part of that play so here we take that first Corner boost which is totally fine boost starving the opponents is great but then immediately after taking that 100 boost we use all of that 100 boost to go take this corner boost outside of the play really far away leaving our net open if our teammate gets beat and not really contributing we're also stealing this Boost from nobody because this play isn't really going to get there anytime soon so by the time the play does end up in this corner if it ever does that boost is probably going to be back so we leave this play our teammate gets beat and now there is an open net and we're too far away from the play to possibly get in front of any shots our opponents can take from here foreign here this player makes a play up field puts the ball on the opponent's side of the field they have to deal with it and then he turns and goes for the corner boost it isn't there he turns and goes for the mid boost it isn't there so he decides to go all the way back for the corner boost on his side of the field it isn't there this is a replay bug sometimes it shows up when it's not there but it isn't there so he doesn't get boost and now here his teammate is on offense completely alone he's so far away from the play that anything that happens from his teammate getting this ball out middle there's no way he can get to it and create a scoring opportunity if his teammate gets beat into the corner then the opponents have all of this space to work with and outplay him when he's on defense so instead of rotating all the way back in this play hoping these boosts are going to spawn for you if he had started his rotation back into the Midfield and his teammate played the ball forward then he can turn in the Midfield and grab a pad or two maybe three in whichever way he chooses he can grab a few pads and stick around and by the time that it's his turn to make a play again this boost would have spawn so if he really needed to he could have looped back and held onto this boost as long as the play stayed over here if the play moved this way he could have grabbed this boost but by staying in the play you're able to impact the play for much longer and apply much more pressure to your opponents and in Diamond if you keep your opponents Under Pressure they're going to crack and you're going to have a free opportunity at the net to fix this you can play the pads in the Midfield which should keep your Boost high enough to stick around and keep that offensive pressure the longer you keep pressure the more likely it is you have an opportunity to convert into a goal if you enjoyed
