I tried using Sims 4 to renovate my real house (Architectural Professional)

hey what's up YouTube my name is Angora builds I'm an architectural technologist based out of western Canada and I'm model buildings in 3D for a living I also stream about home design on Twitch so if you've been keeping up with my live streams you'll know that I am currently going through the design of the main floor renovation in my real life house but I thought it would be really fun to try and take that into Sims 4 and renovate it however we want for cont text The Bungalow that I own is a income property we did buy it with the intention of flipping it and reselling it in like less than 5 years so a lot of the design decisions that I will be making in that renovation are going to be kind of safe I thought it would be really fun to take the house and put it in Sims 4 and design it as though Money Was No Object and I want to do whatever I want as I stated I'm hdle buildings in 3D for a living so I'm super comfortable in the 3D space but Sims 4 is a bit foreign to me I haven't really dabbled in it regularly since like high school but I have no custom content no expansion packs no kits just base game now I thought it would be fun to do this renovation in Sims in three different iterations uh so the first one I wanted to renovate the house as if the floor plan was going to stay the same we couldn't change the footprint um could change a couple things with the walls here and there but I wanted to try and keep this one as realistic as possible in regards to what we can actually do with it the second iteration of this challenge I call the expansion where we could add to the front or back of the house within the confines of the real site that it's on but it would be fun to be able to expand the kitchen maybe add a front porch and then the final iteration of this challenge I tried adding a second story to my house it actually turned out way better than I thought it would I'm really excited about it this is the floor plan that we're going to try and take into into the game and uh it's only one floor with a basement so this is how that went context here I have my blueprints of my Bungalow off to the side here I don't even know what the scale of these grid squares are anybody that is super experienced with the Sims 4 is going to watch me try and build and cringe okay so generally a door is 3 ft wide so that means that if two squares here equal 3 ft oh that's annoying math I was hoping this was 2 ft but okay I have no idea what I'm doing guys which means I guess any measurement or Dimension that I have would be Times by 1 and A2 I guess we'll do this by room we'll start off with the living room maybe it's a meter maybe a right crush this living room here then would be 5 m yeah oh here I have no idea what I'm doing can I only do this as oh it has to be in two okay so it would be like and then oh [Music] no like there's no way this bay window is actually this big this is so foreign to me I feel so out of water here maybe yeah I'll just do this by room I guess and then we'll add the windows and then just like keep adding rooms on maybe that is not how I would 3D model it professionally I would probably do like the whole like perimeter the house and then do all the interior walls after control shift C is that what it is oh move objects on oh okay I've never used this before there okay so let's do the next bedroom and there's a closet for the first bedroom that is literally right [Music] here this house already looks and feels way bigger than my real house actually is I wish that you could put the walls on half lines the only thing I was hoping is I was hoping that we'd be able to fit Landscaping on the side too cuz we do have a corner lot like this but we have a little Garage on this side of the house and it doesn't look like it's going to [Music] fit let's start placing some things for a scale oh is it I think it's alt oh yeah this is what you do okay I'm learning so much maybe it is like this and then all this comes back this is wrong too actually now that I'm looking at it I have no idea what I'm doing in this game holy this is so massive though this is way too big I think it has to be like this I think I think this is how it is I can't do half grids I feel like that's gunking everything up no I think I think realistically this is more like [Music] [Music] this yes like this I think this is like sort of the general footprint sort of okay okay we have a floor plan we've gotten this far okay so we have like abnormally High Windows oh I can I can do this oh yeah this is going way quicker by the way than it does in my actual job like I have to 3D model this kind of stuff from the scratch wait this room has the saucer light too and then this one is a ceiling fan ooh do they have ceiling fans oh this kind of looks like a ceiling fan is it stupid did I do it now let's do doors oh these are all not ideal not good not good okay I guess this is our best our best option this door is here this store is here okay so that'll go to the basement oh actually there's also a glass sliding door and that goes up to our sun room which I forgot to include here okay let's focus on finishing all this stuffff first and then we'll add it sorry to be nitpicky but I think your bay window is off by one square there's a wall between the front door and the first bump out of you're right H uh oh maybe I could do this that like this and then we'll just make the staircase grander I guess there's a pass through between the living room and the kitchen and it's literally just an opening that has no glass in it or anything I don't really want to just like put a window in here but I can if I have to do something like this that kind of worked oh it's so dumb and then there's a closet here let's do some finishes we have the worst finishes in this house by the way wow this is so perfect look at this look at how terrible it is all of the closets have carpet in them so yeah there's three different colors it's so bad and paint will actually be very very easy because they literally just painted everything white now that I'm looking at some of these like trying to do a realistic house I'm realizing how ridiculous A lot of these swatches are I think that's all the finishes so I'll try and do the kitchen now I guess and then the countertops okay they're so ugly oh they're this terrible brown with cream on the counter like oh this is tile though like the cabinets don't match one another that's okay oh the only thing that sucks though is that the um cabinets won't align like I I think I'll just need to place more of them that make sense this I wish you could get single door ones but it looks like they're all just double doors um yes question mark okay I think that's good for kitchen stuff ears oh I don't even remember how big is [Music] this we actually have this I didn't know you'd be able to do this it's so perfect I feel like this like I understand why Sims players would download so much custom content so I might take a crack at some of this exterior stuff then how hard is it to model [Music] roofs so let's do this sun room now I can tell you I much prefer pry modeling in rubit okay now this is where things get a little bit confusing for me we have a step that goes down here and then there's a door that goes to the outside or do I have to just have this one be the back door and not have a door in here at all oh the game doesn't let you put a foundation on only one part of the house so I don't think we can do this then bro stairs are the worst part of my job in my career I know that these are smarter and a lot easier but I'm still like uh there okay it'd be in this footprint but in the basement to the main floor how do you do that what's down here no I need a basement tutorial let's just do everything else on the main floor oh no maybe this does come out but the kitchen works the kitchen's the right size so it's definitely [Music] H that's better and then we do have a bit more space in the bathroom but that's actually good because I was thinking our vanity is actually bigger than this and we do have counter space to put things down wow all right when all said and done I was actually really surprised at how close I was able to get my house in Sims 4 to my real house footprint there was only maybe some minor discrepancy in terms of sizing with the main floor bathroom and then with bedroom number three uh both of those rooms ended up just a little bit bigger than they actually are I I have a side-by-side comparison that I think would be really fun to talk about I need to apologize before we get too far into this walkr my house is super messy uh we just have a lot of clutter kind of everywhere it's chaotic carrying on so coming right into the living room uh tried to do the configuration as close as possible obviously with base game you can only do so much but I was so happy that we were able to kind of emulate a pass through like this and uh I think I think we got the vibe pretty close this is the wall that I'm super excited to knock down I think it's going to open up the main floor so much you can kind of see here this is just the living room and when we get to the kitchen we don't have any space for table so that really sucks uh yeah here we are in the kitchen um the cabinets I was I was pleased I think we got it pretty close I think that this room feels quite close to the vibe of what's Happening especially the floor um but especially with this panning shot here you'll see we have no space for a table on this main floor we're eating dinner on the couch watching TV it's something that I would love to change the table would be able to fit right where all this mil work is that we're going to knock down with the wall so moving to the sun room this sun room is just storage right now because the roof is leaking we cannot fit anything in here or we cannot put anything in here that is of importance you can even see the water jugs on the floor um another living room shot and moving down to the bedrooms so we'll start off with our bathroom here and this was the hardest room to emulate in Sims 4 I don't think we really got this close at all there was just not enough stuff in base game that was close enough uh our bedroom was pretty close I would say and moving to krish's office this is another room that I think we got reasonably close I think it feels good we did paint this room a couple years ago so it's actually kind of in a better State than some of the others but this is my streaming room and this one is empty and I haven't done anything with this either because again we're just going to be redoing all of the floor baseboard paint everything it's all getting ripped up once this was established we got to do the actual fun part which is the the renovating the decorating so this was super super fun and we'll just uh send it on how that went all right I'm nervous the one thing I've always really wanted in this house is to have bigger windows and and I love windows I find outdoor lighting really difficult wait would it be nice to have two of them me do this more as like a dark gray okay and let's get some plants in that's a little better for the exterior okay I guess they'll tackle inside then okay so the first things first um this freaking wall is got to go um this sun room here is basically a deck on wood stilts so that means technically this is the exterior of the house here so I'm going to treat it as such and I didn't say we have to work with the same Furniture so maybe I will just start clearing things I think the first thing I want to do to help with the separation of these spaces is fix this [Music] floor oh wait oh this is kind of nice I kind of like it I'm going to keep this little endcapped wall here though cuz this is absolutely where I think the fridge is going to have to go so this is what we're working with for the kitchen and the living room um maybe I'll base the paint colors off of the kitchen cabinets that we decide to use oh shoot oh this is so sad I thought we'd get more fun options in the base game this is kind of dull I like the kind of vintagey feel but they really dark oh I wish that you could change the color of the handles on here too see okay I'm thinking about this from like a design perspective if I pick a Swatch that has a brown baseboard that means that I feel like we're going to have to tie that kind of in and I don't think I'm going to like the white on the windows it's not right H okay maybe not the dark kitchen idea then I kind of like that actually we're going to do our dishwasher on the end here so let me find it again oh and I guess we need a stove oh no I don't like that it like gets rid of the end Gable here just kind of is there too big too modern too industrial this one might be our best one probably get rid of the um the upper cabinets and do just like open shelving like this probably I wonder if there's enough space to do an island let's try it also this is terrible oh base game is so limited hey and then use some of these discreet guys as well we need some color in here this is terrible we could do a wall tile and then H maybe not quite that one no oh here we go wish that the wall just didn't look so washed out but I guess maybe if you like go in and do clutter that's the word I'm looking for I just don't know if we're going to be able to fit a table over here then yeah that's too big I'm really doing my best to try and match stuff here o it's so white why is there no green Swatch like this for the wall I don't understand I might leave this for now and do some living room stuff actually I kind of like this green we're going to stick with this green the white just looks so boring now H actually this matches okay see now there's no baseboard though so I feel like I should not have a baseboard okay I think if I had it my way I want to put a fireplace here on this wall actually I kind of like the tile on this one this room is really Square actually maybe a black door black door would look good and then it looks good on the inside like all the swatches are so small it's so crazy to me cuz like in my world I can do whatever I want I can pick a RGB Swatch from the internet and then just like use that as a wall color so it kind of sucks being so limited I wish I had more like Slimmer profile columns these ones are kind of like chunky but they break up the wall transition I guess so we'll roll with it I think the next thing I want to do is this terrible dingy bathroom let's just start over I always like kind of vintagey bathrooms ooh this kind of cute ooh let's also swap Windows like something like that and then that kind of matches the new windows that we put in if I had it my way I would love to do a fun wallpaper too like I'd love to do the tile wrap around but then do like a really fun accent wallpaper oh what about Green ooh I don't know is this too much it's like not quite the same in green tone like you'd pick a wallpaper probably that had more of this like subtle Jewel tone this the blue go better than this the green okay I definitely would want a cloth with tub I think I like this one now we need a toilet oh but this one has the wood seat oh it's kind of cute about vanity options you can tell what my favorite cabinet is I guess H I almost want to do like little shelves in the corner or something maybe we do this see and then I think that yeah this kind of helps break it up a little bit ooh okay yeah that's better oh let's pick SC to go above the mirror though is this a lot I want to do shelves here too see I don't know if we can do these lights on the walls or these sconces then right is that just too close I wish this was just like the same Swatch as this moving on I think let's do the master bedroom we're starting over what I want to continue this floor throughout it's kind of a cool floor I think we would just continue it in here so the one thing that really sucks about this master bedroom the optimal spot for a bed would be like on this wall here but you can see and it's the same in Sims here if you put it here then you don't have any space on the right side of the bed to put a bedside table I'm just trying to decide because again we can't change the footprint but we can kind of change the layout of things a little bit just an experiment just an experiment I'm going to undo this it's bad punu though I think to have the door kind of right here well let's try something else I don't hate it okay let's figure out paint colors though ooh actually I don't mind this color H okay this tree clipping into the house is going to drive me bonkers though I think it has to be half in the fence I mean yeah we could do like reading lights on either side of the bed I mean okay I'm not mad about these box lights got moody in here the next room is my streaming office so I guess let's just say it's still for that purpose but redo it how I would like to redo the room I'm just going to continue this floor the whole way in here it'll probably honestly just be pretty much the whole main floor aside from the bathroom and realistically I actually probably would keep this room white just because it's good for recording but let's just delete everything let's just get a whole freaking wall of oh my God are they all this deep though the hard part is with this stupid closet here but what if we said I mean hypothetically this is we do whatever we want I mean we don't need to keep the closet there got a hobby room all right hey Crush are you still hanging in the chat what color do you want this room to be black you want a black room can she go darker ooh she can go darker keep in mind I think this room is quite a bit larger than the actual scale this is the one area of the house that just kind of came out large and wrong this is definitely looking like a extra AF stupid gamer producer room I think I'm happy with this it means I think we've done every room on the M oh no we didn't do the sun room last room last room oh my God okay I'm excited for this one oh my God and I'm definitely using those string lights in here let's change the floor I'm going to keep the wall I think the wood panel is kind of a Vibe yeah just like a wood floor like this okay I think that's good for the first part of this challenge once the main floor was all done I did end stream this day and we did the walkr the next day before we get into this walkthr I do want to state that while I didn't show the modeling or like the building and the renovation of the basement on stream uh I made this choice because we did redo this basement back in 2021 it's pretty much all brand new except for the bathroom keep an eye on my channel for the bathroom renovation series that's coming up next but I included it in the walkthrough so you can just see what's going on down there and what we kind of had done with the layout and how the rooms are configured just cuz it's kind of fun to see uh and I did decorate some things and elevate it a little bit more than what is actually down there right now so I want to do this walk through nice little nice little front front front yard action got the got the gravel got the little Planters here right now our house is like a red brick so we have a black stain that we're going to try and use and we espcially imported it from the UK actually for some reason in North America I think just cuz we don't have a lot of brick I had a really hard time finding a good a good uh finish for that so here we are walking into the front door here kind of a weird Arrangement because the living room is like a weird square shape we added a bench in the closet took off the doors and opened it right up have a nice little coat rack here as well this shoe rack uh side table situation at the front door is actually what we have in real life right now and it works really well we added fireplace and I'm like really into kind of the green rich green with dark charcoal and Brass as like a color combination right now so we did our best to emulate this we threw a bunch of plants everywhere we have just like some little tables along at the front if I had the pets Expansion Pack I would have put a cat tree by the front window but we don't have that and you'll notice too that there is no TV up here because the basement is the theater room in real life we have a record player here but uh because they don't have record players in Sims base game I put a giant speaker system so moving into the kitchen there used to be a wall here we knocked the wall down and brightened it up with some kind of cream and warm wood tones I guess maybe going for kind of like a farmhouse style would you say tying in the green from the living room and on the curtains I don't know how I feel about this abrupt wall finish change like in real life if we were to ever do something like this I think I'd want to actually have an arch go between the kitchen and the living room we fit a little table along this wall here after we knocked it down and we got an island in here so I actually love how this kitchen looks I love how this looks and feels the only thing that I don't love is that these base game families don't have cabinets on this side but I'm such a sucker too for like the brass gold finishes having the pots hang over the window so if you have to wash them by hand they you can just hang them right there it's super cute um moving into our sun room too it faces the north so I actually don't know how realistic it would be to do a bunch of plants in here and how well they would do but we did this really cool kind of boho Style I want this coffee table in real life we did some fairy lights up above honestly I would live out here we'll do the basement after see and this is what I mean about like the scale of things this hallway just feels so claustrophobic compared to the rest of the space coming on to our left side this right here this door is just a little hall closet it's it's nothing oh this is so claustrophobic this one is the bathroom and this is where color swatches kind of got hard the color with the like turquoise is not quite it oh why is there a scon on the wall here but all like the old fixtures here it's it's busy but I think it's fun I don't know this Con is going to bother me let's uh let's leave moving into the bedroom and this opens it up so much so it kind of there's a little bit more of an Al Cove when you walk in but what I like about this is that there especially with all the clothes and stuff from the bathroom to the bedroom there's a little bit of like sound proofing or sound dampening which I think is really awesome in a real life situation if this were a family home then this bathroom would be shared by everyone on the main floor hopefully you wouldn't hear someone else in the middle of the night if they were using the washroom I kind of like how cozy it feels after doing this in Sims I lowkey kind of want to do it to my house in real life now cuz it wouldn't be that hard it really wouldn't be that hard if you're going through and like we wanted to redo all the floor and the paint and stuff and all the finishes on the main floor anyways maybe big maybe moving on we got two more rooms we got the one at the back and this is my streaming room this is the room I'm in now we kind of just turned this into a really bright hobby room cuz I do like to paint and draw and would like to get more into it created a cluttered back wall kind of for the stream background to replace the blank canvas that is here now had to put some curtains and then just did some fun Knick knacky things all around with like the shelves and stuff Sims doesn't really have like computer setups or rigs that are as large as stream setups actually are so it doesn't have quite the same effect as real life like in real life my computer setup is the whole width of the desk oh and then we put a nice big mirror behind the door and just completely demolished the closet and then the final room on the main floor this is my partner kish's Studio he's a music producer so we made this crazy blacked out Studio space for him with some fun Neon Lights some tasteful posters the uh he's an electronic music producer not a guess classically trained music producer so we have the one instrument but it's all digital so did some of the fun mood lights and stuff on the top of the speaker system gave him the most ridiculously large sound system we could fit in this space so it's uh it's cute all right moving on downstairs to the basement wo she's struggling she's struggling she's struggling there we go okay we can walk through basements this is cool okay okay so the left side is just the mechanical room there's literally nothing in here but on this side this is our roommates bedroom there's a window down here I swear he doesn't live in a cave but we just sted it out a little bit gave him a nice desk uh armor with some hanging clothing storage and kept everything pretty low profile and chill noticing a charcoal theme with our male occupants in this space and the theater room and to be honest like this is actually kind of close to what we have in real life the only thing I guess we did was just made the furniture nicer oh but we did add a bar and we didn't have a mini fridge so I just put a regular full-size fridge but I think in actuality you could do a mini fridge under the counter and it would be probably better and more realistic but and same with like this ridiculously large shelf of alcohol on the wall and basement bathroom oh God it's so here I guess we'll got to zoom out and do a fisheye effect here we modeled this kind of based off of the real life Restorations we are planning on this stream right now so if you come hang out another day usually on Tuesdays is when I have been working on my real life house renovation stuff on stream and then here is the final guest room and this is the last spare room in the house and I thought it would be fun to do something a little bit different here so we kind of went with like a cool black and maybe and yellow theme I actually really like it I think it's really nice I was like this room is just so thin and so long so it's actually kind of weird and hard to do Furniture in this room there is actually a window where that picture is in real life so it would not be there and here's the walkin closet and this is pretty much the gist of it that's the walkthrough of what we have so what we're going to do I guess is plan on what extensions we'd want to add that's it that's all that is the completion of the first iteration of my house renovation in Sims 4 this was super fun and I actually can't believe how many ideas I got to do on the main floor in real life uh I don't know if we're actually going to do an island but the bedroom closet thing genius let me know what you think about the island in the kitchen it's something that I'm going back and forth about we have designed this kitchen on stream in the past so I have that in my bod's
