[Music] [Music] [Music] okay i thought i'd do a little video of our basement progress as you walk down the stairs you need to be careful of this last step because it is just free i guess we're ready for the diggers cleaned out everything water heaters moved washer and dryers gone the canning fruit room has been demolished ping pong table's gone couch is gone everything's gone furnaces have been removed radon has been removed what else we just have electrical just hanging here big old gaping hole to get the tractor in everything's shored up this is our new bathroom someday floors are dug down stuff going on here look at that shoring job holy cow that's crazy all right we're ready for digging we're gonna walk the plank across in the basement see if you can do it oh i think you can do it wow there's a lot of stuff going on in the basement drilled drilled all the holes to tie in the rebar for the footers that's what that's for can i jump yeah you can jump in the hole good job you jumped from jump in this one see how deep it is good job okay jump in the other one we have new holes at the bottom of the stairs you want to be careful on that last step because the last step is a doozy good job crazy lots of holes they're all footers and we don't even know what that pipe does nora that's a crazy pipe we have no idea what that does but we'll find out [Music] there's a lot of digging going on in the basement they're using the little tractor from down there in the basement to unload into the big one it's a long process but it seems to be working okay stella's on point the guys are on lunch break let's just take a look at what's going on down here we got the wheelbarrow we got the compactor we got the skid loader and a little mini skid loader down in our basement take a look smells like diesel fumes down here a lot of digging turn the lights on here a little bit so we're trying to do is get this dirt and concrete down to that level so another 18 inches or so got the doors open here letting the air blow through trying to get the diesel fumes out i'm going to open another window still got some more to do all that big pad's got to come out oh this has got to come out but it's getting there starting to look more and more like a basement should with the height that it should turn this light on too turn this light on right here there we go so this is what our basement looks like just stand on the corner here has a tractor and a hot water heater and that's about it okay we have new new material in our basement basement project has got rebar and a vapor where barrier concrete pad is getting poured tomorrow so this is going to be the last time you're going to see our bare basement floor and if you look close see that red line this red line runs all the way across they laser line that out so that we know how much we're going to pour the basement floor all the way around it's going to cover up floor drain i'm not sure what's up with that the floor drain is covered okay but all the plumbing and all the heating coils and the heating wires this is our last chance to make any altercations it's been a long time coming to this point this is our bathroom here a little hallway here and our bedroom here with the heated floor pretty cool tomorrow morning concrete trucks are here at 7 00 a.m and they're going to start pumping in concrete pumping it in i tell you can't wait all right we're getting our concrete forward finally oh okay while the kids are doing their homework we're gonna update everyone on our basement remodel we're going to walk down the basement and do a update on our big basement dig out if you remember we started this basement remodel well project been dreaming about it for years but we completely dug out our basement about a foot down or more to get the height we needed and to get rid of the mold smell because our floor was so thin it was basically just mortar and mushrooms were growing up through it and there was dirt spots and we had bad radon so we'll start off here uh the landing so you can see we cut out this step here the step used to start at the end of that red board there and we moved the whole flight of stairs this way to get more headroom at the base of the stair so let's go down to our newly poured floor which actually the floor is now reinforced with with rebar and it's four inches thick and the stem wall now connects to the floor with rebar that makes l shape like that and it's all tied together and super strong and we have walls that support the house with earthquake straps and what do you call those plates that go through the old portland cement which is not a very good foundation we had no footers so we've poured footers inside the walls to accommodate code and just to be stronger so we have the tie-down plates and we also have the plates that are inside like back up in there see right there the plates that tie in the floor of the house to the sill plate and the sill plate to the portland old portland foundation stem wall and then we have a whole new wall built within so quite a bit engineering went in and let's see where should we start we should probably start right here this is our new basement uh it was about 900 square feet it's been reduced to about 8.50 bringing in the walls this is our new great room with our new engineered i-beam that goes across we took out three posts we took out another post that supported the fireplace right about in this area here and we have glue lambs that go from the big i-beam across we have three of those one this direction and two more that are lateral uh probably 15 20 feet in length and the big beam there is 20 some feet long we've redone our ducks our heating ducks are not hanging down and then we box them in so we can shoot rock over them you can see we had to get creative and some of the ducks there behind the wall that blocking there is for the new tv for the tv room and we have a really large 4x4 slider window that goes in behind there once the sheet rocks in that is an egress window as well as egress window in in the bedroom there which i'll get to so we tore out everything everything i mean plumbing electrical the furnace had to go the water heater got moved uh we had to support the whole house with a multi of temporary posts here i don't know if you recall that but we're beyond that now we've got a solid floor we've got a solid foundation and we have a refrigerator going in this box right here in the outline you can see the ice maker port right there we have a kitchen sink going in this corner right here that's going to be a corner sink and the cabinets will sort of follow that corner there that's where all our main stack plumbing is we're trying to hide that and then all these pipes and hoses and everything go to our new washer and dryer which will be approximately that area right there two more windows will go in there that are not egress but we'll allow more light in this room there are the windows that will go in eventually and there is the new um heating system which is a mini duct we call it duct mini split i think and the head will go right up there where those little white wires are and the unit goes outside we ran a whole new gas line you can see the inch and a quarter gas line it goes all the way along that wall to feed the furnace the stove potentially new fire pit in the backyard and then someday we'll have a gas water heater so that's all all going on the water heater speaking of that used to be over in this corner here we moved it twice i think we had to move it up uh and elevate it to pour the floor and then we moved it here and then we actually moved it under the stairs and that is equipped with a recirculation system which has a little pump down there which is actually giving me fits right now uh so lots of new plumbing lots of new duct work you can see the venting for the for the new gas water heater in the future and the new ducting for the furnace we're going to walk into our master suite or our bedroom egress window we have some future sconce lights there above the bed there's our gas line that goes out to the backyard and we have a built-in bookcase in this wall proposed here the floor is now heated and activated you can see the floor temperature is 72 degrees it's a really cool touch screen thing uh it does everything even monitors how much power we've been using and then how much cost per kilowatt so to heat this room last couple days has been two dollars and isn't 75 something like that so that's pretty cool i love that we have this system in the floor here and then also in the bathroom which i'll get to in a minute since we're changing the way the door works we have to move the electrical from that side to that side work on that this is our walk-in closet it is not heated in there and we already have a shelving system to go in there i've been working on streamlining our fuse panel which has been a little bit difficult but i think i finally got it figured out so this is our bedroom it's a 12 by 12 11 by 11 something like that not huge but it's all right out of the bedroom heated floor goes into a heated hallway a floor which then goes into a heated bathroom floor so we have our vanity along this wall our wall mounted toilet in this part here another bookcase some type of a feature here and there lisa said and our walk-in shower here with a glass door and then glass above to let light through um this is what it looks like in our bathroom this bathroom is approximately nine by nine i think it seemed really big when we first started planning it oh i should stand in the shower here with you for a second controls here as you enter the showers you can reach in turn the water on and there's a shower head up above and then some type of a sliding deal for another showerhead there again we have heated floors in this room and it's much smaller space same type of thing it's really cool you can watch how much had it going for a couple days now so let's see how much energy we've used 96 cents to heat this bathroom floor last couple couple days pretty neat oh neato i love that walk out the bathroom down the small hallway mechanical closet here for the hot water heater a storage closet here for just stuff uh including the furnace but we'll put shelves there to hang our whatever or seasonal decorations and then here is our big great room so uh ping pong and we call that the foosball and then our kitchenette not a full adu just washer and dryer sink and fridge should wrap up what we're got going on so far it's been a major job and had a lot of help but i've done a lot myself and it's been worth it i think someday it'll be worth it it's getting better
