I TRIED ANTHONY BOURDAIN'S FAVORITE MEAL IN VIETNAM

i am about to eat at anthony bourdain's favorite restaurant in all of vietnam not only did he rate this his favorite meal here he rated it a top five meal in all of the world so i'm super excited to try it out only problem is it's inside of this market and i have to go wander through and find it which could be tricky so i just pulled up to the market and made a bunch of new friends here they saw me with the camera and wanted to hang out [Applause] welcome to vietnam [Applause] [Music] all right gonna make my way inside and try and find this place smells nice beautiful so many different bracelets very cool uh kim chow restaurant kim chow this way thank you so much all right i've been pointed this direction hello thank you this is very similar to a lot of other markets we've been to in southeast asia just massive not a lot of space in between and they have any item you could possibly imagine i do appreciate though that they're not haggling me too hard a few people have asked me to stop and look at their stuff but in some markets you go to they'll grab you they'll force you to buy something and it just doesn't make it as much fun but everybody's here super nice all right we've made it into the food hall and it's the second stall right there that was so much easier than i was expecting when you walk in there it is yeah anthony bourdain's play lady looks like they've got a wide range of stuff some meat on a stick no idea what those things are [Music] everything looks good though all right i've just sat down next to a couple of my new friends here yeah these guys ran a marathon yesterday yes yesterday very cool yeah they said they did really well they're from ho chi minh but they came up here for the marathon and they're enjoying some of the food how is everything um everything is gold yeah fussy is very delicious yeah yes i think though nice i'm excited to try it could you order for me everything anthony bourdain ate yeah all right just ordered everything that anthony bourdain had here and i'm going to try it all so i'm really excited okay [Music] this this name bangkoi in vietnamese okay yes this is not boombox okay yes after that you you will have moonball okay so the first dish is called banghai this is not the one that anthony bourdain said is his top five but this is just the appetizer just getting started so we're trying to figure out the translation of some of this stuff it looks like we have a fried rice cake some eggs some mystery meat yes mystery base like uh is that raw meat yes raw meat okay maybe beef or pork i can't really tell yes paul from oh pork okay let's give it a try first we're gonna try the fried pancake with eggs [Music] it has a little sweetness to it it's fried and has bean sprouts and it's salty but the sauce on it is a little sweet good appetizer it looks like that same fried rice pancake right with something in the middle outside crack inside um yeah that's the thing i like it oh thank you shrimp inside there we go and dip it in this sauce here all right here we go [Music] i don't think you're supposed to eat that in one bite i really like that one it's super super crispy and then there's this rice cake with shrimp on the inside served with that same peanut sauce really good [Music] she brought me a coconut water to wash it all down so this is the actual lady that owns this stall right here and she spent time with anthony and said it was an amazing experience a big reason why i travel and love to immerse myself in cultures and eat different foods is because of anthony bourdain i watched a lot of his videos growing up and he's just an idol of mine so to be here in the same spot that he sat eating a meal that he enjoyed is honestly a very special experience all right the moment we've been waiting for this is the boon bowl right here the most famous dish the top five dish on anthony bourdain's list of anywhere in the world [Music] beautiful one last final touch so this dish has noodles beef this is coagulated pig's blood and this is i think this is this is called pork bologna all right here it is the moment of truth we have the boon boy top five dish in the world oh my gosh [Music] i've only tried the broth and the noodles the pork broth super salty very delicious the lime in there is just unbelievable beef is really good anthony bourdain obviously has a more seasoned palette than i do so i'm too scared to try this pig's blood i'm just going to take his word for it that it's good i don't want to try this yeah i'm scared this is one of those dishes i could eat every day it's just so delicious it's light it's clean it lives up to the hype right it's really good yes i just surprised oh thank you nice to meet you bye all right bye-bye see ya see you this has a kick to it as well that's starting to hit me bye guys nice to meet you yeah thank you so much that was delicious [Music] it's hard to believe but all of that food was 40 000 vietnamese which is two dollars for all of that two dollars and she gave me the coconut for free she's very sweet thank you so much i love that food amazing we'll see you again all right since vietnam so recently opened up for tourism there are not a lot of foreigners here every place i've been so far i've been the only westerner there and it's a really special time to travel next stop is somewhere that looks really amazing and one of the most unique landmarks in for some reason there are no taxis around here and this guy saw me trying to call one so he's like jump on the scooter so here we go off we go going across the river as crazy as people drive here i feel completely safe i have just arrived at the imperial city this is the main palace right behind me my friends i met at lunch told me i had to come here and check this place out it was beautiful and worth visiting so i'm excited to go inside and explore did a quick google search about this place and i just learned that this used to be the capital of vietnam from 1802 to 1945. so the emperor had a big moat built around it which is the water you're seeing here to protect it from intruders i'm still on the outside right now so i'm gonna try and go in and see what's on the inside the one entrance i was at apparently was closed so i found a better one [Music] it turns out that gate was closed too online it says they close everything at 5 30 and i got here around 4 45 but they said they were closing early today i'm just gonna have to enjoy this from the outside so this is definitely the main entrance my taxi driver took me to the wrong one but fortunately it is closed all the doors are closed still fun being here though it's so lively right now there are people out everywhere playing games with their families eating and it's just a fun environment to be in the sun is starting to set and i couldn't think of a better way to end the night [Music] [Applause] this is where everyone's flying the kites [Music] absolute madness right here i don't know how so many scooters can fit in there all at the same time oh yes [Music] nice thank you so a lot of people buy an ice cream from this guy he sells it on his bike and it only costs 50 cents so we're gonna give it a try i think it's lemon and strawberry then there's some peanuts and chocolate sauce on top not bad for coming from a motorbike man i don't know how many times i'm gonna say it but the people here are too nice i was just walking past filming and a guy came up to me he's like you go play change for me change for me i seriously considered it for a second but that's just how they are here so friendly in every way i love it whoa back on the motorbike let's do it i cannot believe how many motorbikes [Music] [Music] let's go have some dinner [Music] so for lunch i ate at anthony bourdain's favorite restaurant it was incredible amazing experience for dinner i have come to one of the top rated restaurants in all of hue it's at the top floor the 33rd floor of the vin pearl hotel and it overlooks the entire city and it is just absolutely beautiful this place is super fancy super nice i asked the waitress for her recommendations and so we'll see what we get for appetizers we got a strawberry smoothie a caesar salad and french onion soup first thing i'm noticing right off the bat is how big these portion sizes are this is just the appetizers i still have a main course coming as well [Music] the prawns on the caesar salad are really good really flavorful i didn't even notice it at first but the soup has a big heart in the middle of it so special for some reason vietnam has a very french influence and so this tastes just like a really good french onion soup at a french restaurant that looks delicious thank you all right the main course has just arrived the waitress recommended the sea bass for tonight and she brought out two different sauces one is a lime butter sauce and the other is a passion fruit sauce really excited to try these oh my gosh that's the best sea bass i've ever had that was so good i didn't think i had room for more but they brought this passion fruit cheesecake to end the night thank you have a good night so the meal i had for lunch today was 50 000 vietnamese dollars which is about two us dollars the dinner i just finished up was a million vietnamese so 44 us dollars so quite the difference in price but also completely different experiences i loved both of them and i'm just so happy today my stomach is happy thanks for watching have a new adventure tomorrow can't wait to share it [Music]
