[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] so [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] so it's completely bent one and a half inch nut oh i might have something that big what's this one oh that was bigger it's about a one and 11 16. that's pretty big now i gotta keep that from turning make sure it's not reverse threads sure looks like it's regular threads oh [Music] oh [Music] hey guys welcome back so today i'm trying to mess with this old rotary cutter um this is an old brush hog it came with the property with the case tractor um those both came with this property when we bought it so i've used this to mow the property to clear the property i've used it quite a bit and last year i was just mowing over here between our chestnut trees that all these trees we have in the tree tubes and i shouldn't have been in anything really rough or anything and all of a sudden it just broke the sheer pin and made a terrible noise and it turned out that the blade had went into this bracing that's under the deck now i think that's just a terrible idea having a piece of bracing under the deck where a blade could hit it most your modern rotary cutters they have bracing on top to help beef everything up so i think this was a terrible terrible idea so to fix this i'm trying to see if i can fix it and i was surprised that's an inch and a half nut i was surprised that i actually had a socket that fit it but i can't get that to break loose there's there's several things wrong with this brush hog so one is the gearbox leaks and it leaks bad i pretty much it about drains all the oil out in between each time i mow with it so i i have to fill the gearbox up every month when i use it and so it needs a new seal in the gearbox maybe even a new gearbox probably needs new blades or at least them bent back and sharpened this brace here i think this brace needs to go it needs to come off the back probably have to put some bracing on the front the problem i have that's a lot of work to put into this really old brush hog and i don't even know if i have big enough tools to be able to get this apart i have seen people on youtube struggle trying to get this apart on the bottom of a brush hog so uh i'm afraid i'll go out and buy a bunch of tools and i still won't be able to get this part i don't know i'm gonna have to come up with something because i don't have what it takes today to be able to tear this thing apart but that is just i don't know this that's a bad design um with that brace underneath there obviously the mower blade was probably bent to begin with or at some point in time and then it finally swung up enough to catch that brace but anyway trying to figure out something with this old brush hog here it's going to take a lot of work to get this back into running condition all right let's take a closer look here real quick so this brace down here um it had been hit before this this had been damaged from there before and then the blade was actually had made this hole right here so this blade had hit that brace more than once and you can tell that that blade is definitely closer to the deck uh than this other blade here it's it's definitely bent pretty bad so this is an old brush hog it's an independence manufacturing made in kansas i'm to guess this is probably close to the 1960s time frame and heavily been modified and changed you can see there's some bracing here that isn't hooked up no more i'm pretty sure that this three-point brace here in the front that is not original that's been added on to to be able to hitch this up and then i ended up putting this chain in here i forgot how that oh it had like a little top link in there that somebody had put in there so i put a chain in there so that this could float on the back and ride the terrain but heavily modified i think through the years i'm not sure how much of this is even original here but you can tell when you look at this that the gearbox is even leaking out of the seal up here as well besides the one on the bottom i had blown this pto shaft apart so maybe that's when the blade got bent originally but i had blew this pto shaft apart and i had to weld a new end on here and then put a whole new bearing set in there so this brush hog has seen quite a bit of stuff just in the time that i've had it so i don't know it's an old brush hog i just don't know whether i really want to put a few weeks and several hundred dollars several hundred dollars into trying to fix this thing so after doing some research online trying to find all the parts that i need to fix this i've decided that there's no way i'm going to get this fixed in time because i really need to be mowing today and this brush hog it's an old it's beat up it's in rough shape and it's a little bit small for our tractors our tractors are almost eight feet wide this is a six foot brush hog so it's a little bit small so i decided to look for a bigger brush hog to put on the tractors i ended up found one i found one on facebook marketplace and i picked i bought it the other day i picked it up so today we're going to try to hitch it up to the case tractor and see if we can do a little mowing around the edge of the hay field so let's go check out the new brush hog i bought and see if we can get it hitched up so this is the seven foot brush hog that i just bought off facebook and um it is a bush hog brand model 287 that is supposed to be their tough series rotary cutters or mowers and um so it's supposed to cut trees up to two and a half inches in diameter so it's supposed to be heavy duty and it looks to be built heavy duty it's got a nice big gearbox on it it has the chain apron here along the front and this should help with any debris from kicking out at you while you're driving the tractor kicking out of the front of the mower and i've had that happen i've got hit in the back several times while mowing so uh i really do like that feature i think that overall i think the mower is in pretty good shape there's a few dents in it but i think it's a pretty good looks like it's going to be a pretty good mower so the only thing that bothers me is this quick hitch compatible section up here i want to hitch it up to the case tractor and the case has a fixed hitch as well and i went over and measured it it's 20 26 and a half inches between the the arms of the case tractor and they're fixed they don't move so i measured this i came over here and measured this and it's 26 and five eighths it's an eighth of an inch just an eighth of an inch too big so i'm hoping i'm hoping we can still be able to get the hitch on there and get it to hook up if we can't i may have to make some slight modifications to be able to get the case tractor to hitch up to this but let's go ahead grab the tractor and see if we can see what it's going to take to get this thing to hook up so this is the eagle hitch on the case tractor so you take your implement pin drops into here and then when you pull forward it it pulls in and locks into place and then it can't come out [Music] oh my god there we go [Music] come on there we go so i've got the brush hog hooked up now and it's not 100 right but it's good enough to go test it out so i did get the the arms i got them to fit in there and hitch up i had to take a bushing out to drop it down to category one hitch and then at the top link i tried to use a cat one to cat two top link so you have a bigger pin on the back for this cat to implement but this top link is threaded all the way in and it's too long i'd have to find a shorter one of these so i put the original top link back in it's got a smaller pin in here but it's got washers on each side to make sure that it doesn't come out and that'll get me by for today but i'm going to have to find a different way to hook up the top link so let's go ahead start the tractor up head out to the hayfield i'm going to try to brush hog all of like the blackberries and everything around the edge of the hayfield [Music] down is [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Music] thank you so [Music] [Music] so so so [Music] so [Music] [Applause] so all the blackberries and brush and everything was around the edge of the hayfield got that all cut down now and it looks pretty good i wanted to get that cut down early before this hay got any taller because as i work back and forth cutting this i am cutting the hay just a little bit in the alfalfa but i'm only cutting like an inch or two off because it's so short right now and i'd rather get all these blackberries down and everything along the edge before i get out here and cut the hay with the sickle bar mower i don't want to have to be running the sickle bar mower right up against all those blackberries so uh the brush hog ended up working pretty good it once it wound up and ran it ran really pretty good and quiet it was nice and smooth so uh i think it's i think it's gonna do a good job for me so uh as i look at the tractor right now i think the mufflers the muffler on the tractors bent back a little bit there's so many of these trees that are sticking out man i was having to push the limbs uh with the muffler and the air intake on the tractor not ideal and that someone might have to drive around definitely need to trim the trees i need to trim the trees up quite a bit taller because this is the same tractor i use to to run the the hay rake and the the baler and all that stuff so definitely need to come around here next and trim the trees so i don't know if you guys noticed today but i'm wearing a new t-shirt this got a new design for our logo so we now we got a logo with the alice chalmers tractor on the back so uh pretty happy with the way this design turned out it took me about a day of sitting at the computer taking a picture i went out took a picture of the alice chalmers tractor and then i had to basically turn that into art like clip art so that i could put it into a logo and put it on a shirt and i think it turned out pretty good so by the time this video posts these shirts should be for sale on our website if you're interested in one of these so since the last video where i worked on the case tractor i've done a couple other things i've i've got the tires aired up now and then i've i've also changed the filter in the power steering pump inside of the power steering pump there's a filter i've changed that and the power steering still squalls um it's got a brand new belt the belt's tight it's either the power steering pump itself needs rebuilt or the gearbox that's underneath the radiator that turns the steering that may need rebuilt as well so i still got some work to do on the power steering pump it's causing me to run the tractor at a lower rpm about 300 rpm lower if i run it at full rpms it just squalls like crazy so i'm running it a little lower on rpm and it's quiet most of the time it still squalls from time to time when i steer but i definitely am going to have to look in this power steering see if i get it fixed so i am glad to get a brush hog back on the case tractor last year i ended up mowing with the alice chalmers i got a brush hog that only fits the alice chalmers and the alice trauma is gasoline and it just drinks the fuel i mean it goes through the gas like crazy and i'd rather use this diesel because it's just way more fuel efficient it seems like i can mow for days on a tank on this case tractor so glad to finally be able to mow again with this because just way more fuel efficient well i guess i'll go ahead and take this tractor back and get it parked and i'm going to leave the brush hog on there because i still got some other places that i need to mow but uh i think that's it for today's video guys so thanks for watching i'll see you next time [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] hmm you
