Hi, my name is Peter. I come from Singapore. Recently, because I was so bored with city life, I spent about 3 months experiencing survival and construction in the rainforest. Starting with things found in the wild and using primitive skills, follow and see my life for the past 3 months Starting from a stream deep in the jungle I found a small cave on the cliff This cave is quite cramped and low I decided to choose this as my shelter because it was far from the mainland by the stream. This place will help me avoid wild animals The water here is quite deep and cold The cave is too low, I need to remove the rock above The rock is very hard and cannot be broken by conventional methods Now, I need to make some tools to proceed with the construction of the cliff shelter Vines Now for a woven vines basket Arrange canes into a star shape Note there needs to be an odd number of spokes Using a long strip of vines star weaving over and under the spokes When the base is wide as you want fold the canes up vertically If you run out of one strip just star weaving another in, apter a few lapt it will stay in When finished fold the top of the spokes back into the previous coils Vines basket complete Continue making a pair of sandals from vines Measure out a length 6 times that of the foot Form 2 loops Put between the toes of both feet Weave another length of vines in and out between the loops This is standard weaving (over under) Pull back to tighten weave Add new lengths as the old ones finish Finished sole Stripping of bark Strip fibrous inner bark from outer bark Slitting the inner bark into thinner strips Dry in the sun Twist the individual strands clockwise, but twist them together anti clockwise. This prevents the cord from unravelling Thread through sandal with stick (the weave is tight) Now twist the two lengths of cord together Thread cords through back of sandal Thread cords back under and then tie over foot Finished sandals Now, I need to make a stove Take the bark of the periwinkle Use the sharp edge of the stone to cut the bark of the coconut tree into a rectangle Splitting wood with a stone Assembling fan and rotor Lashing together with strip of bark fiber Scribing a circle Digging clay from creek bank Mud forms blower housing Sticks form roof of housing Mud seals roof Closing roof over air exit. Note that the fan can still be removed for maintenance through the large opening in roof Forming the furnace attached to blower Making a kiln grate from clay Making a holes to let the flames through Building up walls Now, need to make a fire to dry the furnace A round stone Drilling a hole in it with a stone awl Pecking hole from other side Fitting stone over the spindle Tying the cord with a strip of bark As the strings are pulled out wards, the spindle spins. When the strings are completely unraveld, the stones momentun wraps them back around the stick and the process is repeated in the oppesite direction Making stone drill bit Carving notch onto shaft Splitting shaft Lashing bit into shaft Drilling hole in wood Hole carved through wood Fitting crossbar over shaft Tying the ends of the crossbar onto the drill Now the bar it used in a pumping motion to pull the strings outward instead of using the hands (avoids blisters from holding cords) Drilling holes in the baseboard with a stone blade Carving a notch from the hole to let the hot wood powder (punk) to fall out The base board is placed on the tinder with a stick separating them so more air can get to the punk The spindle is put inplace and spun Use speed, not force Smoke is a good sign Stop when the punk smokes by itself Gently blow the smoking to make it glow and ignite the tinder Cover the tinder with small dry twigs (kindling ) Make a fire to dry the oven Mount the propeller on the spindle Rotor spins easier and faster now I found a dried coconut in the stream Peel off the shell to get the copra inside It can be used as a cup Iron bacteria (orange slime) Iron bacteria is commonly found in creeks, swamps and springs Crushed charcoal is added to reduce the ore to iron and land is added to lower the melting poit of the ore Mix the ingredients together The ingredients are formed into pellet Dry on furnace Now I need to make charcoal for the furnace Build earth wall in a circle Make a fire to dry the wall 6 holes made around the base of cylindrical retort Collecting dry wood Stacking the retort with wood Thinner sticks go on now Plastering top with clay Pour hot charcoal from the top Fire burns back down towards the air entries Finally closing the air last (about 2 to 3 hours burn time all up) Opening the retort the next day The charcoal is cooked through Fill with charcoal Add all pellets Start the process of separating iron from ore High yellow/White hot indicates 1200 c plus temperature More charcoal every 7 minutes or so More blowing Whole process took about 3 hours of blowing Extraction procedure Hammering slag flat to hopefully flatten iron Mostly slag Use water to cool the slag Use water to cool the slag I get about 0.1 kg of iron particles after each ore separation Need more iron After about 1 week of continuous work, I got about 2kg of iron And now I will start casting iron tools Crush the charcoal Mix clay with crushed charcoal Making pot from creek clay Forming a pinch pot Adding coils Smoothing out cracks Dry on furnace Put the pot in the oven Pack wood around pot Get fire going Working the blower Adding charcoal for more heat Add charcoal every 10 minutes The temperature is about 1300 degrees Celsius Whole process took about 4 hours of blowing The next day Start smelting iron After the coals burn put the pot on top Continue blowing for 30 minutes The pot is already hot, the temperature is about 1200 c . Put about 0.4 kg of iron seeds in the pot Add more charcoal around to adding heat Blow continuously for about 1 hours Iron particles have begun to stick together to form lumps After 2 hours, the temperature is about 1400c Make a mold to cast an iron knife Create a plane on a lump of clay Draw the shape of a knife then make a cut in the shape Mold smoothing After 5 hours, the furnace reaches about 1600 c, all iron particles have melted Use the wooden stick that has split into tongs to remove the pot from the oven. Immediately pour the molten iron into the mold or it will cool quickly The temperature is dropping and iron has hardened to form a knife Discharge the cooling water suddenly to make the knife harder Finished knife Take the knife out of the mold The knife is a bit thick and needs sharpening Making knife handles Finished knife Next I will cast hammers and chisels Hammer and chisel need more iron so this time I will melt about 1kg of iron Sharpening chisel head Making hammer handles Hammer and chisel work quite well The activity is so intense that I'm almost exhausted, now I need to find something to eat to replenish my energy. And the easiest thing to find right now is the fish in the stream right next to me. Use vines to weave traps Arrange canes into a star shape Use onee spoke to tie them together so that now there are 7 spokes (an odd number is needed for weaving) Adding another vines to weave with Weaving over, under, over, under etc. Adding a new piece when the old one runs out Tucking in the left over ends Complete 5 baskets Funnel-shaped lid Funnel is inserted into basket, completing trap Snails can be found on the rocks as bait for fish traps Smash the snail and then mix it with clay Divide the bait into small pieces and put them in each trap Funnel is inserted into basket Lots of small fish swimming in the stream Setting the trap in the stream and put rocks on top Setting all the trap along the stream Fish entering the trap. Once inside it won't be able to find the opening to get out due to it's position in space above the floor of the trap 3 hours later I will cook fish on the rock Choose a thin and flat stone Note, the stone will explode when it is too close to the fire, so only use hot coal to cook After about 30 minutes, the ice is hot enough Cook for about 1 hour until the fish is dry This meal helps me to add a lot of calories Try cooking this way at home, it's tastier than you think Keep working I need to heat the rock above the cave before chiseling it After heating the stone will be more brittle and easier to chisel Spread a layer of earth on the floor of the cave before lighting the fire to prevent the rock from exploding underneath. After heating up the stone starts to explode 1 hour later Rock fragments from the explosion Rocks are much softer Explosive rock creates large cracks It is very easy to break large rocks Continue to burn many more times It took about 6 days to chisel The space in the cave is much larger now compared to the beginning Spread another layer of soil to make the floor Mix the soil and level it evenly on the cave floor Collecting of thin and flat stones Paving stone on wet muddy ground helps to fix the stone Match the stone edges together to create less gaps Finishing the floor is paved with stone about 4m2 Need to make an iron ax to cut trees Use up the remaining 0.6kg of iron particles Finished axe Now I'm going to cut wood to build a house Chopping trees into 2m lengths The distance to transport the trees back is quite long and dangerous, it will be very difficult It took me about 10 hours to cut down enough trees Hew the four sides of the tree into a square Cut the tree in half into two lengths of 1.5m Carving 1/2 tree head Similar carving with other trees Join the carved ends of two trees together Join 2 2m long and 2 1m5 long trees together to form a rectangle Punch holes on both ends of coupler Cut wooden dowels The pin must be larger than the hole in the coupling to prevent it from falling out when joining together Close the latch to the coupling The coupling is pretty solid Do the same with the remaining three corners Detachable for easy transport to home Close the latch to secure it in place Cut off the excess of the dowel Cut small wooden slats from 30cm to 50cm Cut small logs into bricks Wooden bricks Punch two dowel holes in a wooden brick Close the dowel on the wooden brick Need to make a lot of wooden bricks Mark the two dowel holes of the brick on the floor frame Punch two marked holes in the floor frame Install wooden tiles on the floor frame Use a hammer to firmly hammer the wooden brick Do the same with the remaining wooden bricks Using wooden dowels to install bricks is much stronger than normal nailing From the second row onwards, the hole to install the dowel is punched directly on the lower row of bricks The bricks in the upper row are placed above the joint between the two bricks in the bottom row This helps the wall to have a connection between the wooden bricks This stone niche will be the stove in the house The entrance is located in the middle with a width of 60cm Cut a 1.5m long wooden brick to make a door frame Finished wall Making wooden doors Still using wooden latch to close the door The door hinge bar is tapered at both ends and is longer than the rest of the spokes Hole punch for door hinge Putting door in place Making simple purlins for the roof Choose stones that are similar to paving stones but thinner to make tiles roof Draw a rectangle with size 20cmx40cm Use the sharp end of the knife to carve deeply in the shape you just drew Cleverly beat along the carved edges Smooth the edges of the tile Use stone drill bit to drill a hole in the top of each tile Thread a piece of string for each tiles Lay the tile on top of the purlin then tie a string to the purlin to fix the tile Putting tiles in place( they just sit on using their tabs, nopegs necessary) Finishing house Exhausted after many days of hard work, now I need to find food to replenish my nutrition Find deep holes in tree trunks Chiseled deep inside will catch the stem borer It looks pretty scary but it contains a lot of protein It was difficult to find the worms so I had to search even on the tall branches Second meal after so many days I will cook at home Cooking on the stone is the best method when no kitchen utensils are available Worms ripen very quickly, just 4 to 5 minutes after dropping them on hot rocks. Cooked worms will have a greasy taste Although this meal does not help me feel full, it provides me with a lot of protein to maintain life and working Now I'll have a good night's sleep in my new house A new day has begun, there will be a lot of things to do next Now I need to build a bridge to make travel easier Need a lot of big trees Remove the entire shell Punch holes for dowels Match 4 trees together to form the foot of the bridge Make a similar one The legs of the bridge are quite heavy Moving under water makes it lighter Raise the foot of the bridge and secure it with a stop rope Join 3 trees together to form a bridge girder Install the bridge girder in the middle Lower the rope after putting the girders in place Adjust the bridge for balance The bridge's beams and the bridge's foot are pressed against each other, creating a force that makes the bridge stable without the use of nails or glue. Cut off the excess head Adding a locking bar to the girder of the bridge helps to stabilize and create ground Use 2 4m long trees to make the floor for the bridge Bridge deck width 1m Make stairs at the top of the bridge Cut 1m-long trees for bridge decks Pare Close the latch at both ends Install stairs Finished the bridge's floor, now I need to make the bridge's railing Complete the bridge The bridge is very strong even without the use of screws or glue Now i need to go make a terracotta pan for cooking Crush the charcoal Mix clay with crushed charcoal Shape the pan Use water to smooth the surface Shaping the outside of the pan Dry the pan on the stove 8 hours later Baked for about 5h Add coal every 15 minutes The next day The fish trap was set from last time A lot of small fish so I decided to cook fish with spicy sauce Arrange the fish in the pan in a circle Add a little water so the fish won't burn After the bridge was completed, traveling became very easy and convenient Wild chili inced chili Add the minced chili while the fish is boiling Fish is served with minced chili Enjoy a delicious meal on the bridge that I've worked so hard on If you have a chance, cook a dish in nature and enjoy it by the stream An indescribable feeling of comfort, making every dish more delicious than ever I will take a nap after many days of hard work Last day End This video chronicles a 90-day process using only natural things that I have built, survived and cooked on a cliff in a rainforest.
