I Sold Stock Video Clips For A Week And Made £___

if you're in the video production / filmmaking world you've probably heard about it before and the truth is even if you've never heard of stock footage before you've probably been seeing it hundreds of times throughout the day as a filmmaker I've actually never tried to submit my own stock footage before so I thought let me give it a crack and also I want it's go out the freeze in UK weather so after a 10 hour plane journey and an hour stop over and another two-hour plane and another 1 hour boat made it's in a small island in the Maldives this video sponsored by Squarespace whether you need should be capturing by looking at different stock websites and I needed Eclipse with a more generic perspective shots that could fit in a wide range of variety and styles the weather isn't like the sunniest out there but we managed to get a few shots some little hermit crabs a bit of a palm tree and a cocktail glass luckily the weather cleared up the next day and I was able to get more vibrant looking shots I don't even know what there is it's a nice sunny day going kayaking today might film a little bit but it looks like the clouds have cleared up as off [Music] so we just decided to walk to the water villas which is where we're not staying because the rooms are super expensive here but we thought we'd get some pictures here check out that view oh my god also I brought my drone with me but apparently this island doesn't allow drones I'm gonna ask them again I don't see why not maybe it's like an invasion of privacy or something this looks photoshopped in real life okay I reckon you should have a picture here in the middle we can get my camera out so finally got some good weather blue skies and all no more clouds I think I'm gonna get a shot of that jet ski over there and then that palm tree as well I think that'll look great it's actually so hot and bright I can't see anything on this screen so what I'm having to do I'm having to like put this around my head [Music] another difficult thing I'm finding is that because the sand is white it's reflecting a lot more light so the sands always overexposed compared to the sky and I'm just trying to find that perfect balance between the two I think I'm finally got like a perfect stock shot it took me like three times to get this I was here yesterday and the clouds are a bit too dark I was here this afternoon and it felt a bit too bright and now I feel like I'm here in a perfect time when the Sun setting the clouds are quite golden in the background yeah yeah it's been facing so I'm trying to get like 30 seconds and plus there's no people walking past apart from like this guy about to go into frame right now but I've got over 50 seconds worth of the shot the only reason I don't want people in shot is because what once you get people in shot you need to like sign consent forms once you're selling this stockbridge it becomes a bit more technical so I'm trying to avoid any people in these shots and that's a wrap on this shot so I place my camera right here on the beach and I framed up so you can see that cloud right in the middle over there along with some waves coming in found another shot where I tried to get a shot with the moon because we've got a full moon today didn't really work out cuz haven't got the right lens on me however I found another cool shot in the process boom we've got these trees up here and got like loads of space here I don't know maybe somebody would want to use this shot for some of the effects stuff maybe they'd want to you know put something in the sky or yeah I don't know get creative whoever's gonna buy this I used the Blackmagic pocket Cinema Camera to capture all of my stock footage and with 13 stops of dynamic range shooting 6k Raw really allowed me to get the most out of my clips once it came to color grading I wanted to travel light so I only packed one lens the 24 to 105 milk cannon the zoom lens was perfect and it helped me capture my much sex ice to us alright just setting up a shot to get these two water villas in frame the sun's goin quick we've got sunset happening now reckon I've got that shot but I'm not really happy with it because the beach is sorted and then everything else is lit so you're getting this an even lip shop so I've got two so I'll compromise do I want the beach lit or don't want the sky overexposed so yeah I'm not really happy with that let's go try another shot I decided to move up closer and getting a much nicer shot I love it we've got the sunset golden light sort of hilt hitting that Villa over there and the clouds are looking pretty in the background lovely [Music] and again I'm in the same spot just by this water villa I've just turned my camera around to capture those palm trees some sort of bird over there don't know what it is so forgive me all the wildlife experts out there I'll probably google it when I get home but maybe I can get a stock clip of that bird because just being sitting there for like the past half an hour all right John so I've just submitted all these a stock video clips as you know like I'm working on this video and you said you've got some fun facts for me well yeah I was I was very interested how much money you can actually make from these things and I've just looked up Shutterstock we want to show us though there was the biggest one shortly yeah yeah I just looked it up and their market cap is 1.4 billion billion billion billion yeah yeah yeah and in 2014 I don't know about 2019 but they made 328 million dollars and from that money they paid eighty three million dollars hang on I dunno I think Shutterstock only give 30% of the sales to the thing they still pay people eighty three million dollars to upload their stock that's oh ok one of those guys you get you get yourself no but that means I need to upload thousands and thousands of video clips for me for me to make a decent income from stock you got to think about it I have to be on the grind or alternatively you just make really really good ones yeah a lot of good ones yes I mean you could be making some decent money from it yeah but you know I've enjoyed the process so far so go see how it goes awesome good luck right so let's talk numbers how much money did I make from uploading the stock footage after a week because that is what the YouTube title says right well I mean nothing zilch in fact I'm even at a loss because the Maldives aren't chief once you create your account with a specific service that you're going to upload your stock clips to there was like an approval process had to go through and then after that when you upload your actual stock clips there's another approval process for those clips so that whole process takes some time but I just feel like a week wasn't enough to do this challenge when I did my research there were people that claim that they make like a good residual income on the side with stock lips so yeah I guess I'll be back
