that's a 50 pound fix on a three and a half million pound flipping build yes technically i've not done anything illegal no you haven't broken in so this is the issue i should not be able to do that see what you can't walk through this could you it's full of bureaucracy should be at low tide at high tide shows what i know quiet and peaceful oh my god there it is have you ever seen it it's low actually absolutely slow and there's your damn that's the first dam uh those doors as you can see they're half underwater half the size of the door underwater and they should be flying nearly empty to the bottom first down that's what the stones all washed and this swirling water is created down there we only need to look 20 30 yards 40 yards 80 yards you see that water running over the top those stones are slowing the water down and if we walk even further down to where the boys are where the boats are and the banks have come in it's restricted the flow then again you still see drop off and drop off this is the difficult part for the environment agency and for anyone to clean out what you're saying is it should be smooth they should be clean they should be cleaned out to the bottom of those doors yeah yeah so until they clean out so why don't they do it hey they can't go on here because it's triple si we have to have permission and written permission for natural england and some of the bird people to put a digger on here that will disturb some of the wildlife same wildlife when the tide comes in gets the world war anyway yeah but they can fly off they can nest but what's happened in the past used to be a hard track down here quite a good hard track and they've slobbed out for ease they'll put it on here to dry out then they put a 35 ton machine on which is big enough to do the reach and they've got it stuck and they've got it basically it's been dangerous they've got to have a machine now they're going to have two men working all the time it's the environment agent health and safety i understand that it's been perfectly correct but the machine has to work at least two meters off the bank edge so you're going one meter you're going two meters so the machine even has to be bigger to reach across more weight last time they dredged this out do you remember i don't think they've done it for at least six years um the last time it was clear and running really well was when they did that wall and they bunded it about there abundant as in built a dam so they could work in this area but just like in fact just the other side of the where and what happened was because they pumped the water sometimes at great velocity when the tie was low tide like now it is now the amount of water that went down scoured that clean itself they've never seen it as low but they were pumping at low tide a vast amount of water and straight and straight well it was being directed straight there was nothing going back that way it wasn't it was being forced down there at a great pressure when the tide was out what happens now is because we're on gravity flow it's only because this tide is low and our next video will show you how high it comes those gates have a chance to open bear in mind the half full of water now that extra foot of water or more that's being held back in the whole system more than a foot there there's more than three four oh yeah well at least three four i was being generous you would have been generous i've seen a fort or even say two foot of water that this should be lower that would lower all the water all the way upstream you lose a foot another foot from that bottom of that gantry to here and that is coming out on tidal flow that's the maximum tidal flow and this is the first day i've been down here after we saw it about last week that he's coming out without the pumps going so the levels got off storm so we're not on storm level so the pumps and now they're relying on this but because of the silting up at the other side and because the doors aren't opening as well as they could do and because of this house held back it hasn't got the power to keep scouring this trick out they've sort of made a mess of the dynamics of water flow and it's the people in the offices that worked it out or as this case they haven't worked out the possibility what gets me when they look at this diversion they've done there where that stone is and there's that concrete plinth and you can just see it yeah that's a 50 pound fix on a three and a half million pound flipping build you know if you buy those 50 quid digger jcb put them in so they've tried to implement it the old wall was behind it that was the first build he did which was a few million quid 25 years ago so they've put a 50 pound fix on a 5 million pound spend but it's still not right the fact they haven't even done anything more permanent than that because obviously they've just thrown some rocks there well the rocks are there to stop the bank washing away what happened before there's no bank here there's no bank opposite they put all that stone in to stop the bank washing away what they did find when they pumped it all at low tide and pumped every gallon of water that came in he washed all the bank away so they had to put stone in reinforced to keep it there these woods have been in for years and they've held the bank back back to stop the bank coming further in further down you can see that but as you go further down the creek what happens is when the boats go up and they float the fine and then they settle again on the mud they're actually forcing the mud into the bottom of the ditch that no one can clean out anymore they've got restrictions cleaning it out the restrictions made by the lack of water flow and then they've got restrictions holding us all back back just by the sheer dynamics for the water well that one foot two foot of water and i've been in our field today all our field drains are still under water as we speak today and that's all from that well if that drop and have time between why don't we open that up because it can't we probably can't there's no one here it would do a wonderful job if they could open it and basically if you've got a digger there and move that stove further down and give us that extra two feet of drop in the first 100 yards of this creek it's not rocket science as far as i can see this is starting problem of all the problems going upstream because the water isn't moving faster the outlet and what you say you've got to get the outlet right it's like you've got a great big oak tree with rotten roots he's gonna fall over roots are the most important then the whole tree trunk this is the tree trunk of the file drainage system and the tree trunk in one way that he could say it's damaged diseased or it isn't perfect it will not hold the whole drainage system to work properly i won't have a go and just walk over that bit hopefully you can get around if you want it is technically i'm not going to illegal no you haven't broken in you just walk down the bank side all that stone has been left from the contractors who did the build and has built up a damper you could walk across there i bet you're good no no no no no no you stay there stay there i'm gonna do it sports fans so annoyed i've got a hold of my wellies right now so this is the issue i should not be able to do that so if i can walk through that but then when i go to my ditch my ditch it's up to here that is where the issue but yeah this is where our issues are in farming in around here we should not be able to walk across that that should be free-flowing and then we could probably do the same there probably do the same there before anyone says it i just went around this round this gate fence i didn't trespass this should be dredged out the deepest part there is not even over my welly so that means that that is the only drop got left if that got dredged out i wouldn't want to do that in front of them doors because the bottom of them doors will be up to like here where my well my drain is my drain so that needs cleaning out that needs cleaning out up there needs cleaning out and that's before we go that way so hey ho i'm just trying to show you guys what's going on and what the issue is obviously dad has a bit of a round as well we'll try and cut it to make interesting so it's interesting to see it low tide this is what we wanted to see the other day but obviously it rained quite hard this is how low it gets on low tide we want to come at high tide and see how high it comes but pumps aren't on today you can see there that's where they're directing the water that way and apparently that stone is because it was going absolutely helpful either hitting that bank away from that bank and imagine that bank just wasted away and all that still has to go somewhere so that's what's going on dad's having a bit of a run to uh the fishermen they're green to each other so you can see everything going on there i shouldn't be able to walk across that and it's not been cleaned out for six years you say at least six years it's not eight maybe ten on this side of the tidal door hello you're right film crew in action what we didn't do last time which we're gonna do this interesting seeing that low tide again we want to make see some at high tide this is just a sunday video a nice sunday videos are nice and short quick normally try and get a bit shorter but look at this tell you what you can't walk through this could you this isn't private property is it no i've been here lost enough what we have here those are the pen stocks in case anything goes wrong at the other side you can drop those and the time won't come in okay that's what we've that's what they're for this is the river this is the river not a brook the main drain this diversion goes to this pumping station here here these grills right stop any debris going into the pumps that will destroy or damage the pump make sense these girls block they've got a lot of debris on them the pumps run out of water so they stop yeah yeah right and then they're gonna fill up again then they've got to fill up from underneath again rather than drawing loads of water they will pull water you send people down that's the debbie could have been last week week before all right clean it by hand why on earth this hasn't got an automated scraper on i've no idea at the end of the day a few thousand quid more just once in a blue moon a few million absolutely and then that would stop that problem it made the water so wide here now it meanders those reeds are growing in the old bank and silt that was there before they would not be growing in the middle of a river right they've got roots because it meanders here there's no dynamic force through the that's where it used to be before the pumping station you used to do the natural thing there so that was the old bank and they've made this into a new bank a bigger bank so this is like a balloon there's a low overweight volume the low pressure balloon behind the creek the creek requires like a jet wash of water to scour it out because it can be under here and there's no power because the banks aren't both cleaned and everything there's no volume plus there's silt in this area here because when it pumps this way the water stops there and it the silt rests and in there you'd find if you did a underwater sort of one of these camber jobs it may be quite deep here but it's not going out here it wants to be deep there but he can't be deep there because there's mushies and reeds holding water back so he's losing its dynamic flow that way oh now deep that is uh interesting to walk through between four go over your waders well look at those pen stocks look how high those doors are and they have to go down to the floor to shut it off yeah yeah so i mean it's going to be three four feet at least at least so that's been stopped to the other side so this is why all this drain is full of water because of the stopping this way that way the other way and every time they put the pumps on to relieve the top water which is the extreme flooding store there's still a storm water the silt comes back this way and goes against those doors and slows the water down even more and unless we get a big force of water through those doors those doors aren't going to wide enough the only other way of doing it is manually someone being here when they're forced water and opening those doors not just for one day two or three days a regular basis bang it out hang it out until the tide's coming in and then maybe shut these doors and let them go down there there's all sorts of pros and cons and reasons why and pumping station it's full of logistic bureaucracy and nightmares nightmares and people not understanding what the problem is further upstream because i say the big oak tree when all its leaves start falling off and the branches start giving away because the trunks wrong the basic trunk and the roots of the i've oceanology it could always say the weakest link of the chain but all the links are different sizes there's hundreds of drains back there hundreds of little ditches dikes that flow into here but if this isn't right that's a waste of time and we farmers are working on the water because of that two foot three foot and i've been down to our fields today again and i'll drain to that much underwater we only need that to the lung to start draining properly not soaking away so frustrating that even on a good day like today we could see if we were doing it but as an industry as farmers would be addressing this problem because we can't but no one's flooded again so this is nice sunday video this is at low tide wasn't even gonna make a video today but we just afford bring it just in case i shouldn't be able to walk across there maybe again there is a reason why that is there anyone at the environment agency wants to do a video with myself a zoom chat something like that that'll be really really cool to explain why we do it always two sides to every story i haven't heard anything yet don't have a chat that's amazing hope you enjoyed today's video we're gonna come back i'm gonna do a high tide video on a sunday what i'm trying to do is nice light-hearted video away from farming obviously we can't do the vlogs so we'll come look at the drains that kind of show you what we're doing my dad's gonna finish off with he can walk through that side he'd have to swim through this side it's as simple as that it's so deep you could swim you could put your boat that side it's paddling pool depth isn't it that is what's holding our water back to start with without the silting in the drains and that'll silt up because it can't get away next time i might put my bungee smooth glues on and uh have a swim show it's like maybe not might be a bit of duck muffin there probably not the worst thing i've done in my life i hope you enjoyed today's video i appreciate you all watching if you do find it boring let me know because we won't do it don't find it boring you want to see high tide let me know because we will uh come on high tide guys thank you very much again hope you have a fantastic sunday we need to go back seeing the cows and go and do some milking see ya wait i won't let you go across there without a rope on you because they could be two foot of slob if you got your foot stuck and you couldn't get out you have nothing to push on you drowned you'd be gonna you drowned it's like sinking sand it's silt it's mud so there's no way you're going across there we could go across it a boat and we could stick it down i'll get me uh kayak again we'll see how far how the depths we've got too important to him just want to put a rock around all right
