I Rented A Car That's Arguably Totaled

what's up everybody Rob Freddie here and it's Sunday Super Bowl Sunday in fact and you know sometimes you want to rent the car I had to rent a car today I had to move something and I found out the enterprise's aren't open on Sunday enterprises who I locally usually rent from so I went to Toro and I picked up this Jeep and I'll show it to you in a second but I'm inquiring where the point of this video I guess is I went to put my NSX on Toro just because I'm the guy with the help but it has a rebuilt title so it won't let it do it I'm like all right I guess they're out in the interest of safety I can't really can't really argue with that but then when you start getting into it you start to question what they do let you rent on Toro now here it is this is the Jeep I and obviously I'm looking here and this this Jeep cost me I think about a hundred and forty some odd dollars for two days so not cheap right in line with what the rental companies would charge and when you get a little bit closer you start to question what you paid for it now let me let me take you in here cuz the when I got there the app was like did you see any damage on the car and then the answer to that would be well sure there's some damage here and some damage there there there's some damage here then come around there's marks on all the doors again not not the end of the world but there's some damage here the bumper doesn't really line out you make your way around and then you see the rear tailgate is damaged here from somebody hitting it but that was fixed with a sharpie so I guess that's not not terrible but like clearly not a very well taken care of vehicle and that's not what I was expecting obviously I can't see if you can tell looking down it but there's a bunch of like door dings and dents going down the car you see right by while he can't really say deflection but then I open the door and then you get this which is busted up seat steering wheel which you don't really want to touch without gloves okayness floor mats I mean the cleanliness I guess can always be called into question but then there's I don't even know what that is but that's all sorts a fubar that doesn't like it just it doesn't look that good then you start it up where's the key here what your pocket did I put that in this start you got the check engine light and that is [Music] and both windows during wintertime are cracked I don't dare put those up because if those two air fresheners there can't come back what they're trying to cover up I don't want to have any part of that the check engine like now I mean I've gone let's just say 30 miles and it was listed it looked almost full but clearly it was not full somebody drove it around two locks I'm already at three-quarters of a tank and I've gotten maybe 30 miles since I picked it up so not feeling that so much but the car is just not in good shape I haven't really gone through very much I haven't opened anything up it's nasty enough that caused some concern and the reason I'm bringing this up is because you know I'm gonna actually sit right there I'm gonna look up what this car is even worth because I took the insurance on this car thinking that like all right cold it's like ten dollars a day or whatever ten fifteen dollars a day for the insurance but my concern would be that the if the car is damaged or something like that's 16 dollars a day I don't have to do anything problem is the basic insurance probably is a deductible of something if the deductible is five thousand dollars three thousand dollars or whatever it is I don't even think this truck is worth that let's see what year it is you so this vehicle is a hundred and thirty-eight thousand miles on it ones that have lesser mileage there's one with 34 111,000 milestone for thirty four hundred bucks so this truck is the SUV here is not worth very much at all and I mean even like the super like here's one with a hundred and forty thousand miles thirty-seven hundred bucks hundred and fifty six thousand miles three thousand dollars so we're not talking about a big money car by any stretch and that would assume he'd assumed that it was in at least represented representative condition that was reasonably well kept now the tires although they look alright there is some form of suspension issue on this thing but like had I known I was literally buying insurance to cover my ass over a $3,000 truck I probably would have saved that all right so first off that safety latch closed itself I mean with vehicle of this mileage you would expect that's not that good-looking you would expect there to be some form of inspection right you didn't you'd expect that if you're not letting certain vehicles on your platform that's why I'm not just trying to trash somebody's car here if you're letting certain vehicles on a platform and not others you're saying well we're not we're concerned about the quality of a rebuilt title or a salvage car but then you have stuff like this which is a hundred and thirty-eight thousand mile literally like not a good driving or a quality vehicle at all and and the question is is Toro really out in the interest of safety or is there some sort of agreement that says like hey you represent your cars in good working order or they're not really taking the steps to ensure or inspect or see the quality of the vehicles being rented now the problem is you could take on Toro you can't ask questions to somebody before you book it so when you do book it and you're there you're sort of stuck with the car and I'm in a situation where if I get there and don't want it then I'm starting this whole process over again it's not like I'm at the counter and it's 50 more a hundred more cars I can choose from I'm now locked into this car and when you're requiring there's only that people put one photo five photos ten photos and and the photos from 20 feet this film looks perfectly fine but just when you get close to it you question the quality and the safety of the vehicle that you're renting made the mistake of putting the windows up hopefully doesn't hurt to smell in here but you know when you you get this incredibly hollow sound out of the suspension usually means the shocks are no good I may even be like a transmission mount because I'm not even hitting bumps and that things rattling or making like a hollow sound so there you have it I'm only using it for two days I think I may get it inspected I think that would be interesting just to see I can tell there's definitely suspension issues with this but I'd like to know what they are and see if I'm really rolling in a deathtrap or not they have it tore oh yeah I don't know stay tuned all right here we are underneath the car now we got it up in the air and I'm not gonna lie there's a bunch of drips that doesn't really bother me it does really resemble my ugly truck line which is not a good thing the bushings are all pretty shot I think the suspension noise that we're getting here is if I consider my Dominus probably the season to control alarm bushings which are no good I mean it's not uncharacteristic for such a high mile car just not what you think you're gonna rent I think it would be helpful if they put the mileage on it when you rent it every time I rent the car I think I'm getting a good deal on through tour oh there's always a reason that I was at a super high mileage car even for the year so you got a new axle shaft on that side maybe I'm boss upfront but if the control arm bushings look like that but you're not good for the lower control arms I can't even imagine what the other ones look like you can't really see from down here but not the most photogenic undercarriage this is a ground cable which is not grounding anything doesn't snapped [Music] I mean that's also you can see how that's not centered those probably shot as well and then the significant leak oh it's leaking it looks like that differential is leaking pissing all over that's the oil pan flexing and something about an oil pan rule number one is you want it to keep the oil in the car and as soon as that gives way through the forty three layers of rust all that oil is gonna be on the ground and the engine will probably go knock knock knock knock knock boom so I don't know if it's unsafe nothing looks like it's imminently about to crack and fall off but it doesn't look pretty under there not something that I thought I was renting it would be cool if they had maybe a mileage or some more descriptive information or maybe even had the cars checked out prior to them being listed or having them routinely checked out or hey you want to make a car at Oriel you just got to bring it to the service center to make sure it's good I think that's a better play as far as making sure that the quality is there and you're delivering customers a quality product versus just saying is it doesn't have a clean title if so go ahead
