I paid WAY too much for this Hot Wheels PC!

[Music] if you guys enjoy watching me get absolutely fleeced by collectors this is gonna be the best episode yet ladies and gentlemen i am coming at you with the one the only hot wheels pc the good news for me is that the 1900-ish u.s dollars that i spent to acquire this thing is considerably less than the 6 000 bounty that i offered on the wan show for a full set including the tower monitor keyboard mouse mouse pad and racing wheel all of which i've got the bad news is that that ended up being just to borrow it i have to send it back when i'm done msi's geforce rtx 3080 gaming x trio 10 gig has it all performance low noise and rgb gamer aesthetics check it out today at the link in the video description [Music] full disclosure guys i could have spent the full bounty amount and gotten a hot wheels pc and full set of accessories that i could have kept but the main reason that i didn't is because i don't want one and i'm not the only one both the hot wheels computer and its cuter cousin the barbie computer were colossal failures for a number of reasons starting with well the branding you see in 1999 it was more common for families to have a single desktop computer that everyone shared so even though they were priced quite attractively at just 600 us dollars the tackiness of the design inherently made it a niche product because it was really only for families where junior or little miss was going to have their own computer in their room problem number two was the product i mean on the surface it sounded pretty good intel cpu windows 98 a whole host of included educational software and games i mean the hot wheels one check this out even came with a hot wheels branded steering wheel and pedal for racing games only the computers themselves were sick a full 50 of the initial units apparently suffered from bad power supplies causing a rush of customer service complaints and returns um let me just make sure this is the tear down one hold on making matters worse even if the quality was perfect the product faced significant criticism for being a pretty underwhelming computer even for the low price holy sh patriot computers was based in canada sorry all the disappointed children uh on behalf of my fellow canadians then wait what okay got our cd-rom drive floppy as well as a hard drive in there i believe this unit here was a celeron 333 model with a six gig hard drive i want to say 6.4 the other one's got a 10 gig oh wait no i think i get it it's all one big piece here i think i actually do have to take out this stupid screw on the bottom [Music] this is the for parts one okay wow it literally does not have a single expansion slot i mean look at this rear i o shield two usb 2s modem speaker mic monitor out oh serial and two more usbs that's it pop the id and floppy cables off and let's see if we can oh yeah there we go slide the drives out get a bit of a better look at that supremely unimpressive motherboard what the motherboard tray just like pops up like that wow well that mile that would make assembly like pretty easy actually good idea patriot computers too bad you never live to see it through i wonder if they actually did like a custom board for this thing oh never mind this is from back when intel made their own motherboards see there's actual intel branding right there on the board definitely nothing stand out about this machine other than the failure rate apparently so many of these died during the product life cycle that the manufacturer patriot computers was ultimately driven to bankruptcy don't feel too bad for them though they went down real ncix-like actually accepting orders and people's money up until the very end leaving thousands of people with computers that they ordered and were not going to receive mattel ended up having to issue 100 free toys and gift certificates to angry parents who thought they were going to be getting a hot wheels pc or barbie pc for their kids for christmas but found out last second that they were going to end up with nothing but did their kids really miss out there's only one way to find out in addition to this for parts unit i've actually got what this particular collector refers to as a museum grade hot wheels pc that is fully functional and for funsies i'm going to tell my kids that i replaced their computer with this and see what they think of it it looks good do you want to try it okay i'll press it harder yeah there you go this button is to open up the cd drive oh well we got to turn on the monitor too can you press power button on the monitor you gotta give it a little pushy push there hey there we go i missed that sound so it's got some games already loaded on it when you just move this a little bit it goes so far um yeah so this is a new technology um it's actually a ball mouse it's for ballers do you know what a baller is no okay baller's someone who's just you know they ball too hard right um so it's got like a ball in there so the ball moves a little roller inside the mouse and that's what moves the cursor around pretty much what i'm trying to say is there's no way to adjust that who put napster on this uh why don't we try why don't we try a game that it comes with so hot wheels actually shipped the pc with a cd wallet and a collection of software official collector's guide rally challenge tattoo designer uh brian the electrician threw a few things in here for me as well need for speed two why don't we try lost vikings too hmm can i try something new old tab i actually do not know this app cannot be run in a window you there of course you don't buy a hot wheels pc to play lost vikings you buy hot wheels pc to play racing games please tell me there's a driver cd in here all right why don't you fire up the stunt track driver okay you want to do the goldfish bowl race the room race sand castle race i don't know we'll pick one fine maybe slightly more cooperative okay this one thanks okay do you know which one is gas this one yep okay here we go wait is does this game even use the wheel oh okay wow you sure wipe out a lot kid i don't know but you gotta steer a little bit are you like you're supposed to use like what are you even supposed to well hold on but does this control it it totally does you have to like crank it though what the oh you're going backwards that's a trick what's wrong with this computer compared to the old one i see lots of lines scan lines well steering wheel doesn't work much you know some people pay good money to have scan lines on their uh on their computer it doesn't work okay let's try something else let's try need for speed all right you know what forget the wheel it's hard why don't you just use the uh keyboard what do you think this game got pretty good graphics yeah are you sure kind of i like the old computer better what do you think is this a pretty cool computer yeah okay i'm gonna uh quit this one is there a minecraft on it minecraft you say uh nope it does have other games though do you want to try some different games there's magic school bus solar system okay so you just click on stuff maybe try clicking on liz uh you gotta click on them oh yeah there's that cd-rom spinning up gotta load that content you think pretty good graphics as good as minecraft yeah you know i think my kids uh unironically probably wouldn't care if i swapped
