hi folks my name is Adam and I like to make tiny nerdy things and before I made The Simpsons I made a sofa [Music] okay so originally this video started out as I made a realistic Homer Simpson but then that little idiot part of my brain was like hey why not make them all and suddenly my workload got five times bigger it also means that I need to think things through a bit more which isn't generally something I'm interested in doing but at this point I know what my weaknesses are and a front loaded barbell squat is right at the top of the list not far below that though is keeping my sculptures to their original scale hence why I'm making the sofa first I figure if I'm making the sofa first then at least I've got something that I can use as my scale to build the rest of my model around after all there's no way I'm gonna screw up the size of my characters to the point where they don't fit the sofa right right now as far as making the actual sofa is concerned I went with an Ikea design which means the majority of the Interior is made of cardboard and it's going to be coming a part of the seams just after a tiny bit of use that's fine though since the Simpson sofa is over 30 years old at this point so any bumps and ugly knocks are just cheap and easy weathering I also grossly underestimated how much time it would take to make a sofa thinking that this entire process would take me an hour or two but this stupid piece of gray garbage probably took me closer to five or six hours to actually get to the point that I'm ready to bake it however once I baked it I'm ready to start making my characters which I'll do by pre-matching some aluminum foil to the correct size so I know what my general scale will be for each character and once I've got that figured out it's time to get to work starting with Homer however first things first I need some skin The Simpsons are probably television's most famous all jaundiced family which means I'm going to be using a lot of yellow unfortunately I don't have much yellow in my cosplay stockpile but by mixing it with some gray cosplay I should end up with well pretty much the same color but like a whole lot more of it I can then pull a little chunk off for the patriarch and set the rest aside for later now two minutes in I'm finally ready to get started on Homer's gut I'll start by wrapping my aluminum ball and Clay then building up the chest and adding a little knob for his head before baking it so I have something solid to hold on to then I can attach another ball of clay to the Little Neck knob before adding lots of little wormy dealies of clay to bulk out his girthy throat Zone making sure to build up the layers so he's extra thick looking his mouth starts out as a couple little lumps of clay that can get stuck to the front of his face and Blended in leaving a lumpy protrusion in the front that I can carve some lips into then a tiny sausage becomes his nose and I'll poke some holes for eyeballs which gets surrounded in sausages of their own to make some extra wrinkly eyelids and skin folds since I guess that's what makes him realistic I think a more accurate title would be I made The Simpsons but they're super unsettling but for whatever reason the realistic titles seem to work better as clickbait though to be fair you know what you're getting when you click on these videos so I think a little linguistic interpretation is fair game otherwise at this point I've got the majority of his face proportioned so I can start to add lots of wrinkles and details to the surface then stick some little ears in place on the sides before going back to his neck to really build up that triple chin [Music] thank you [Music] finally to add some final surface finishes I'll poke his face with a soft nylon brush to add lots of little pores and a thicker stiffer brush will build up his five o'clock shadow and I'm ready to make the rest of his body I'll start by adding a big lump of blue for his butt before pressing him onto the sofa so I can attach some legs and reposition them so they fit properly before going any further though I'll pop them off and drape the sofa in some cling film which should keep him from sticking to the clay while I'm working on getting the pose and proportions correct with the cling film in place I can start to refine the detail of his jeans cutting away the excess and adding lots of little wrinkles around the folds and bends once I'm happy I'll give his pants a quick bake in the oven before slapping a big lump of white clay on his belly to build up his shirt and make him extra thick around the center line at this point I realized I'd made the head a touch too big for what I had originally thought his body would be and I don't want to start over so instead I'll pull his legs off and significantly increase the length of his torso before setting the legs back in place and filling in all the gaps this works surprising well given how much clay I added but I think that speaks more for how poorly I'd built it in the first place rather than anything I'd done in fixing it back to the belly I'll build that up so it's cartoonishly large to fit with Homer's excessively bulging beer belly then I can cut a simple v-neck into the chest and add a simple collar around the rim at this point the only thing left to add are his arms but because the close proximity of the rest of his family I figured I should probably make Marge first so I can drape Homer's left arm around her shoulders Marge much like Homer starts out as a lump of foil that gets wrapped in a gnarly yellow clay and then built up into a somewhat recognizable but not quite right version of herself the big difference here is that Marge is much more sleek and slim so her turkey neck is much smaller and she's the glue that holds this ridiculous family together so of course she's plastered a smile onto her face to ensure everyone that everything is a-okay foreign outfit I'll go with a sickly green wrap for her dress that I can build up the bottom that hangs off the sofa into which I can stick a couple pre-baked legs with shoes before wrapping it in a thin strip of green to finish off her dress because I've made Homer significantly larger I'm running out of room on the sofa so a quick change of plans will bring Maggie off the sofa and on to Marge's lap now there's nothing particularly different in how I made Maggie except maybe for her hair you see Homer and Marge both have pretty standard hair if perhaps a bit strange but the Simpsons children have well horns it's the only thing that makes sense they're the exact same color as their skin but they can be cut back without significant blood loss so I'm going with horns once I'd baked Maggie I realized her body was a bit too big so I'll gently rip her head off and replace the body with a lump of blue clay which will be her swaddling then once I've attached a couple of arms I can press her into place on Marge's lap and refine the shape I want Marge to be holding Maggie which means she's gonna need some arms so I'll start out with a little lump of yellow clay that I can roll into some little yellow sausages that I can then pinch into wonky paddles and cut a set of three fingers into some pinching and pulling will make my fingers and a fourth sausage will be my thumb I made some fingernails by cutting some Thin slices out of the extra horns I had then I can press Marge's arms into place and wrap her hands around the weeburn finally some little red balls will be her beaded necklace and I can fit her in beside Homer who now has a pair of his own arms ready for a loving embrace to finish it off I'll give Maggie some little hands a couple ears that I forgot to add earlier her little blue bow and a teeny tiny pacifier [Music] foreign [Music] of course Marge is looking extra wonky without a full head of hair so I'll slap a little blue buzz cut on top to make it easier to attach her overly large tubular blue hairdo which gets Blended in then textured by poking with a stylus followed by a nylon brush and that's the last the details for these two so it's into the oven to bake now immediately after baking them I dropped them while pulling them out of the oven and Homer's arm broke off but that's actually perfect since it'll make painting them both easier later otherwise that's three-fifths of the Simpson family finished which means I can set these guys aside and get to work on Lisa Lisa is pretty much just a slightly larger Maggie with legs so once I've added her bottom half I can roll out a thin pasta sheet of reddish clay and cut the bottom into a triangular pattern then wrap that around her body to make her dress she'll get a couple bright red baked potatoes for shoes with some little flesh colored windows on top then I'll give her a pair of hands and wrap them up on her belly she's sitting like this mostly because I'm quickly running out of sofa space so I need to make sure any arms or limbs are as space conscious as possible finally to finish her off I'll give her her white beaded necklace then she can fit in beside Marge which means all that's left to do is make bort 's got a body similar to Homer and even at the ripe young age of 10 he's got a bit of a belly his head's tall like homers as well but instead of the horn mace for hair he's got more of a Darth Maul look going on with smaller horns sitting on top in a ring I figured in keeping with the son of Homer look he'll get a nice thick triple chin as well before adding a Big Blob of red clay to make his trademark red shirt I'll flatten the bottom before baking it to make it easier to add his blue shorts which I'll press into place to form into a dome add a couple of little blue legs then Hollow those legs out so I can fit some bent knees into them some little worms of clay will make the wrinkles and I can add his arms before sitting him on the sofa so I can get the position of his arms correct before pushing a pair of blue sneakers onto the stubs of his legs finally I'll add the sleeves to his shirt throw them in the oven for a final bake and he's ready to join the rest of the family on the sofa with apartment done that's my wrinkly thumb like Simpson family finished however there's still a little bit of touch-up work that needs to be done starting with the sofa oh I'll give the sofa a simple once over with a leathery brown base coat before taking my orange and sponging aggressively [Music] I'll then carry the sponging technique over to my Simpsons family to add a bit of variation to their otherwise one note skin tone this gets followed by some highlights with an even paler yellow followed by an orangey wash strategically added in and around the eyes and wrinkles to add some depth and shading I'll then repaint Homer's white shirt with a white paint to give it a nice uniform color as well as touch up all the eyes while it's on my brush before giving Homer and Bard's Blues a quick dry brush to bring out the details Homer's beard will get a dusting of brown and Marge's hair will get a dark blue top coat followed by a lighter blue dry brush I'll then touch up her dress with a slightly less gross green Bert and Lisa's respective shirt and dress will get a once over with a couple of rents to fix some of the imperfections as well as add some depth and shading then I can repaint all the horns and fingernails with a yellowy brown wash all the unsettlingly large eyeballs will get equally unsettlingly small pupils and because I can only imagine how dry their eyes must get I'll add a little red around the edges before giving them all a healthy top coat of UV resin to make them extra shiny last but not least omeg Homer's three hairs by gluing a couple of shortcuts of black thread on top as well as a wavy length of thread reaching from Temple to Temple and with that my Simpsons family is finished and ready for the garbage I mean ready for the Glamor Shots [Music] [Applause] foreign [Music] izing patrons of patreon and a big old shout out to my newest patrons daddy alright titanstorm CB and MK NYX fireler Amanda Flynn Gotham
