I'm going to take the old school Pokémon world and make it HD so I can make Pokémon come to life in my very own game this is vidiian City from Pokémon Alchemist there are different maps in different games but I really like this aesthetic and it will translate really well to a cool cartoony terrain piece but I want a better reference than just my phone so perfect I just love the aesthetic of these Pokémon maps The Colors the vibrancy there's no perspective it's all orthogonal like straight lines but I think we can work towards that and still get a really Charming Vibe now on the map that I'm referencing the trees on the side top and bottom help me know roughly how much to subdivide this into its grid and I use that grid to then draw out the rough layout of vidiian City one of the trickier elements here is there's actually elevation the obvious one is we have these Cliffs over on the side but there's this whole row at the bottom so I accounted for that I have not glued the bottom part of this foam to the board so I can actually cut that out and have a drop this one is going to be tricky because how do I Elevate that without disturbing much of that I'm also going to start working on a little secret addition to this project that is really going to bring the world of Pokémon to life so it's terrain time and creating those height variations was pretty straightforward especially at the bottom where I just cut out where there's the drop from that little Cliff Edge for that little narrow Gap that players can walk back and forth on by hot knife carved a smooth gradient between them which hopefully when colored and textured like the rest of the grass will look like it ties in with the rest as for that random Cliff face in the middle of town I cut a little section of foam directly down the middle to make it a little less than half the full width of the foam gradiented the back edges and had a bit of a sharper drop along the front it'll be a little Cliff face not as steep as the other one but it'll also tie in and look a little more seamless in town as for those rockf face Cliff edges along the west side of the map it's just a matter of creating those layers and trying to match the the proportions as much as possible to my [Music] [Applause] map okay let me explain what I'm doing here I am also making an extra special little Pokémon World by making an entire map space for a coastline where me and the Gang at tabletop time roleplay will be Crash Landing as Pokémon trainers in our role playing game but now it's time to start doing some texturing work on our terrain starting in the path areas with a homemade little texture paste mixed with glues and Sands of All Sorts to get a nice rough and hard surface next it's time to make the mountains look Rocky by smacking them with a [Music] rock and with those simple areas done there's some fill areas to go as well specifically that gradient path and some of the areas adjoining my raised Hill in town it need to be smoothed out a little bit mixing some sculpt it with the same green paint will allow me to create a bit of a smoother transition in those areas flatten it out as it starts to dry and then paint my color on top again with that first layer of paint now dry I took the green color mixed with a bunch of PVA glue and a touch of water and gave the green grass areas another coat and lay it on all of that satisfying flock but keeping it nice and neat and [Music] clean and when that was fully dry I brushed off any excess masked off any areas that aren't grass and then brought it back to that vibrant green with some Misty layers of spray paint after the vibrant pop of color was reintroduced with the sprayers I put all this Terin outside so I can move on to the next most prominent part of the map the trees now I made this little foam tree for reference purely for scale both for what would work effectively on the map and what would look good next to our Pokémon trainers so I found this great cartoony looking 3D printable tree that I thought I could use once printed to make a mold and then make repeat versions of the tree now the problem is the print failed and I only had the one shot at it so I'm going to have to do it the oldfashioned way cracking Out The Good Old Reliable monster clay so I could start to rough out the geometry of 10 trees then it was on to the tedious effort of carving out the details to make them look nice and cartoony and aesthetically similar to the trees in our map then as I moved on to to the final details of the trees I decided it was worth the failed print let's call it a blessing in disguise as refined as those 3D printed trees would be in my mold there's something really nice about the slightly varying trees of a hand sculpted much more crafty personal aesthetic of clay handmade trees so I created a container for my 10 trees made it as leak proof as possible and then set about mixing my silicon to pour in there to create my tree mold now is the moment of truth I have quite literally a brick of silicon that I'm hoping I can remove my trees from oh it's very firm but yes fast setting rigid polyurethane my thought is that because it's fast setting if I cover up the end surface and rotate it fairly constantly after 15 or 20 minutes it will set in all of those exterior details and leave a hollow interior allowing me to get quite a number of trees out of a not huge amount of rigid polyurethane so I hand it off to Amy to do the hard yards for me this process worked really well Amy was able to spend a day with my mold going back and forth pouring in that fast setting polyurethane mix and as a result producing over 140 trees more than enough to fill our map and our little side Maps I have a little army of plastic trees made from my hand sculpted trees this is perfect they have so much more character than the 3D print I was going to go with definitely a happy accident now just going to whack these on the tray spray pain them dry brush bit of detail and you're good to go I spray them all with a dark foresty green under base which is a little harder than it looks they all block each other and there's lots of details so so this is pretty timec consuming and I go through quite a few cans through the process as I blend my way up through to the lighter colors eventually finishing off with a fairly vibrant and bright green at the top which the trees in the map have this is all of the trees that we have mass produced they look so good I'll probably give them a little pop of detail on the top later but I think it's time to start putting this all together I have my map I have my trees let's bring fry and City to life don't worry I saved the best part for you so that is the grass done and I couldn't be happier like the colors are vibrant it's got enough texture that it feels HD but it's also really really cartoony feeling look at this oh God it's perfect and because I masked up all these other areas we still have that Sandy Rocky texture that I established for the paths and the mountains starting off by laying down the lighter tones for the path areas and when that's dry going over with a dry brush and bringing out some of that texture then with our two different darker Outer Edge colors one for the paved inner city and the other for the Pathways I create that blending transition between the grass areas and our walkways next comes the tedious but satisfying step of putting in all of that Paving work in our city [Music] path now it's time for the mountains again referencing my map I paint a lighter color on all of the top facing surfaces and then move through all of the sides and then lat to the top to blot and sponge on all of the textures as close as I can to those represented on the [Music] map [Music] this is looking so good so I'm going to set that aside to dry and come back to but I'm not done with my terrain work yet because I have that little Coastline disc slap on a little bit of Blues which will later create depth in the ocean and then it's down to a mixture of pigments Sands and Tiny rocks to create a really nice looking Coastline I lock it in with water and glue set that aside to dry along with the map and move on to the next part of our project something tells me this time lapse of putting all the trees in place on my map will be one of the most satisfying things you'll have seen on this [Music] channel check it out look at this like I'm kind of speechless this has all come together perfectly and we're only at the halfway point but it looks so good you want to see something cool check this out what's this a wild sandre appeared but wait there's more there's people there's Pokemon trainers oops do you remember those discs that I was working on well these are for my immersive roleplay table so we can make our roleplay content as immersive as possible so you can actually watch watch us play as our Pokémon trainers and with our own invented stter Pokémon in the story where we are marooned on a desert island as Pokémon trainers and are discovering the mysteries of Pokémon on that island I was a little sneaky and made some of these tree sections removable so that we have modular terrain it's going to be so cool okay I'm getting distracted but I'm so excited so I'm going to get back to work I've got my map now I to make buildings props and then we come back to this later to do the final touches our resin pores and bringing it all together so let's jump into recreating all of those adorable little buildings in vidiian city starting off with the PokeMart using foam as a base for all of these and constructing all of those details with a mix of wood plastic card and a bit of gading and shape making on the foam itself next up up the Pokémon Center where you can bring your injured wounded Pokémon to recover to rest the shape of this one was pretty tricky to get especially the roof but it was beautifully finished off with that perfect piece of plastic card for the top which just happened to be the perfect size and texture for that roof texture then it's a matter of adding that final Arch shaped detail which is that sign on the building and tying it all together with that last bit of texture next up we have the gym and not just any gym giovan's gym the leader of Team Rocket I wanted to make sure to get all those details from that building in my reference which was going to be tricky out of the materials I've been using so far so after I have all of those rough shapes together I F in some of those areas I want a bit more detail specifically that top of the roof with foam clay which I flatten out and then I can just punch in the detail in a really uniform neat and satisfying way last but not least we have these other two random little cabin looking buildings one of which is the Pokémon school I believe building these with a mix of popsicle sticks and carving in the detail into the foam and then it's off to Murray with these building so he can help me out by giving them a paint job making him look as much like our game as we can but trying to strike that balance between a touch of realism while leaning on the [Music] cartooni now we need to make a whole bunch of those finicky little detail pieces that are scattered around our map starting off with the picket fences that border some of our tree areas and cut across through the middle of ridian City then we move on to the mish mash of props the signs the street lamps some of the Little Flower Pots and the bench all the tiny flourishes that bring the whole map to life huge shout out to Amy and maray for helping me bring this to life I couldn't do projects this ambitious without their help we have the most perfect buildings and we have all the props from the map even a couple of characters so we have a hiker and my favorite the old man because one of these buildings is the old man's house oh my God I'm so excited okay so now it's time to bring it all together including finishing touches on the Treetops resin pores and putting everything into place this is by far the most satisfying bit piece by piece putting everything in place and bringing vidiian City to life every tiny pop of color every little detail adds so much to this piece and now I'm going to add the final finishing touch a resin pore which I'm going to add extra depth to by painting the blues of the inside of the water in the lake laser cutting an acrylic surface to go higher up in that depth sealing it in with UV resin and then creating a shallow UV resin poure that thanks to that acrylic plate looks way deeper and way clearer last but not least we have a few of the main characters that go into their proper place with all of my terrain elements done and set as as side let me show you how much awesome stuff we have prepared for our Pokémon games we have our own Prototype game system in the Pokémon Universe complete with custom Pokémon cards the ability to level up and catch Pokémon to battle to role playay with all of those classic DND style interactions but with all the adventure fun and joy of the Pokémon games and all of this including a lot of these terrain elements that we've been working on are going to culminate in the ultimate Pokémon roleplay experience the entire Studio has been hard at work making this incredible the team over at the Art Channel insert art has created custom starter Pokémon based on our descriptions and made art for our Pokémon trainers tabletop time have hand sculpted every single one of those stup Pokémon and printed a bunch of other awesome Pokémon that we can catch and battle in our roleplay and of course tabletop time roleplay brings it all together in a narrative driven immersive experience that you can listen to in the podcast with our best acting and improvised Pokémon sounds oh man complete with some of the highest production quality you will ever see in an immersive improvised storytelling experience most importantly an incredibly fun story we have been dying to LEAP into with everyone in the studio who absolutely adors Pokémon taking place you're going to need extra help uh scrad uh here you go and he gives you a a great ball yes you going need extra help does Brad now have a rival it's now this small I'll make a playlist in the description where you can watch all those videos and make sure to check out and subscribe to tabletop time roleplay we've worked really hard on this and if you love Pokémon you have a lot of fun ahead of you but without any further Ado of course let me take you on an epic journey to vidiian City after a long journey our adventurers find their way to vidiian City there's no finer place to rest recover and gear up for many more battles trials and triumphs to come with many more friends to be made along the way [Music] [Applause] [Music] we started with this and we ended with this I am so happy it's just so satisfying if I don't break it that doesn't matter because we're going to be using a lot of these assets over on tabletop time roleplay make sure to check out that playlist so much fun we're all really excited this video has been particularly fun too and I hope you've loved it so make sure to subscribe for more of this fun in the future otherwise that's it for now and until next time I'll see you in the [Music] adventure
