hey everyone it is Tanya welcome back to the channel and welcome to another build video today we are going to be tackling this shell here which is by The Sims team this is uploaded on the gallery under agent shaie which is the community manager and it's called a modern Madness shell and it's honestly just a giant box I wasn't joking it's a big box and we can't change any of the exterior walls we can add interior walls half walls fences decks porches whatever we would like roofs Windows uh but the outside walls have to stay the same which it's all flat in this section the back is just flat it's just it's just a really weird shell but uh I think we can figure it out so jumping into the speed build now and the first thing I wanted to try was to add some sort of like deck space on this bottom floor to bridge the gap between that and the second floor since it was a really weird shaped shell and I decided to add some steps over here using platforms and quickly I decided this was going to be something mod since it is such a weird shape I didn't know how I could make this anything else and I'm glad I made that decision because I actually really like how this build came out it was a very interesting one and I had no idea what to think going into it so uh I'm quite happy with it it will be available on the Sims 4 Gallery if you'd like to download it by the way I would highly recommend you go through and look at all of the submissions I'm sure there are so many good ones since this was something that was announced for like the whole Sims Community I know there's going to be a lot up there and I can't wait to take a look myself uh but I am building this in the world of Oasis Springs and so I decided to add some palm trees here and then I'm getting these vertical slats going up the wall I thought it just kind of helped to have something that was connecting all three levels to make it feel like it was intentional and I created this shape to start with that it wasn't a shell and I think that helped I do play around with the roof quite a bit I don't end up using this roof here but I will be changing that a little bit later on and it was also helpful to add some balconies on this build not only the one that I added on the side but I also end up having like a second floor pool which I thought was really cool there was just some interesting decisions that I don't think I would have made if I was building this from scratch which is always the fun part of shell challenges everyone's comes out different but also you end up with some really unique looking builds so this is where I'm adding some of those windows for the Second Story pool po which I think is so so cool this pool is actually or the windows in the pool are from City living they have a blue tint to them which I thought was nice and I don't use them very often because of that blue tint but I thought it made sense for a swimming pool so that's what I opted for and I'm also just changing the Swatch of those slats and starting to paint some of the exterior floor as this dark wood tone and uh also picking out a fence to go around the pool I'm pretty sure I use yeah I use this really low-lying one here at first I think I might swap it out later because that's not like the safest platform height although I might add a wall up there we shall see because of the type of roof I end up changing to which is this kind where I kind of extend the eaves over I think there ends up being a wall in that portion so it doesn't really matter uh so just going to play around with that now having those stick out and using some more of those vertical pieces to hold up the roof I thought that that looked really cool and it just really helped all of this seem intentional like I said this was just a shell and at this point I feel like it doesn't look like a shell anymore which I was so happy about I was actually really scared about this shell in particular because it was just a big box there wasn't like bump outs and stuff it was flat on two of the sides and the rest was just a little strange so I would love to know what all of y'all turned the shell into if you decided to do it for yourself uh it'd be very interesting to see that I know I've did a couple of shell challenges on my channel where I created a shell before and we might do another one of those sometime soon I actually have doing a new shell challenge as one of my charity incentives uh because this upcoming weekend on Sunday the 7th of April I am doing a charity stream here on YouTube as well as on Twitch for the Pediatric brain tumor Foundation to celebrate 7 years since I had my brain tumor evicted I've talked about this a little a little bit online but not like a lot so you might not know that uh but to celebrate that huge milestone I am going to be working with the Pediatric brain tumor Foundation to raise money for kids who are dealing with that so I would love to have you join us there's some really fun incentives including a potential shell challenge there's going to be giveaways of Sims packs also some stuff from Elgato and uh it's going to be a chaotic time because donations can impact the build you can delete or add objects change our budget bulldoze the whole lot it's going to be a fun time so I'll have all of that information linked down below if you'd like to join us I'm probably going to be mentioning it a lot this week since it's coming up and I would love to have uh more friends join us so that is that but anyway back to the build I am starting to figure out where I want to have the steps and what I'm thinking of for this build because unfortunately the layout is a little strange I end up loving it in the end but you enter on the bottom floor and there's a couple of bedrooms down here I think only one of them I decorate as a bedroom and the other one ends up being a gym but then you go up a floor to be the main living room space where you have the living room dining room kitchen all of that and then the top floor is like a lofted primary bedroom which I thought came out really cool in the end it's not the most private but I was kind of imagining that the floor like the bottom floor bedroom is more of a guest room and that one or two sims live here and they share that top floor bedroom so uh I wasn't really imagining it was going to be too much of a privacy issue because of how I imagined this house would be laid out but anyway this is where I am creating that lofted space deleting the floor so the stairs head to the top floor but it's open to below and this is that kitchen area I opted for this counter set from the home Chef hustle stuff pack I just think it is so pretty and it worked really well here I had a really neutral interior but I did something quite fun in the kitchen which you'll see in a little while here which is I made a custom backsplash out of some other items in game uh we don't have them yet but you'll see it in a little bit I also really enjoyed what I did here in the staircase where I added these vertical plots again um or slats and had them go all the way across so it was like two levels of them I thought it looked really cool so I had to delete the floor again here cuz automatically went back and then I'm just placing beds to be like this is what this room is going to be uh I find it helpful to place items down so I don't forget where things are going to go and then I just added some more windows there and I changed the Swatch to match everything else and this is where we're going to have a bathroom for the primary bedroom so just tucking that over in the corner as well and I believe I just add a couple of items kind of throughout I go back and forth on which rooms I'm going to decorate when so I do bouns around this house quite a bit so apologies if that bothers anyone but it looks like we're working on the bedroom first which I didn't realize I did also if you hear noises in the background my cat is on my desk and has decided she wants to chew on everything so that's just kind of how things are now she's chewing on my hands uh but anyway the bed I decided to put against some of these cabinets here to make a more substantial headboard and I got a nice plant in the corner I really like the rug I used which is from Eco lifestyle as is the bed so they go together quite nicely and throughout the whole house I'm pretty sure I use the same curtains which are these gorgeous ones from the desert Lux kit it was the first curtains we got that came with a curtain rod and they are just so pretty I also really enjoyed this brown wallpaper that I used or paint that I used throughout the build I just think it's a really nice one and I don't know if I've ever used it before it just felt different uh and then I created sort of like a built-in closet space over here which is all pieces from dream home decorator so I hung up a bunch of clothes and stuff in there and I just think this the space came together really nicely I don't do a lot of lofted bedrooms in houses I sometimes will specifically create a loft or do that in an apartment but it's been a while since I've done this in a house so it was just like a nice change and so once again thanks to the Shell being a strange shape and thinking outside of the box it really helps sometimes to just uh try a new style or maybe download a shell or there's a lot of different things you can do to create some different builds that than what you typically do I still feel like this very much looks like my style but it's a little bit of a weirder shape and layout and I really don't think I would have a house that has two two pools with one on the second floor if it weren't for this so uh this house or this bedroom also had enough space for a sitting room in the bedroom so I ended up putting a couch and a couple of chairs over here there's also a desk space which I don't decorate right now I'm going to come back to that way way later to decorate that space for some reason I just wanted to decorate over here and I wanted to place down the desk I didn't even place a chair at it and I was like I'll come back to that don't know why that was but don't worry it does get decorated I don't leave it blank same thing for the bathroom I think although I'm not sure if I show that on camera cuz I tend to delete bathrooms out of speed builds or just not record them because uh they tend to be pretty repetitive I usually only show one in a build unless they're drastically different but they tend to have the same fixture so I I think it's pretty safe to only keep one most of the time but moving on into the kitchen and this should be where I am going to grab our custom backsplash here any moment which I'm so excited to show you I was really pumped that this worked uh because I had an idea for it but I wasn't sure if it was going to look okay and it ended up looking so cool there's some of these wall pieces right here that are from Eco lifestyle and so I ended up just shrinking them down and putting them against the entire back wall like right above the sink and then I used tool to lower them ever so slightly so that they would be easier to all move together so that they sat right above the counter and I really liked that uh I think these are so pretty I used them in a couple of places throughout the house but in particular in the kitchen as a backsplash you can see me grabbing them all the with the tool now it's a little finicky but we get there and I think it was worth it I think it's a nice touch for this kitchen so I was just playing around with trying to figure out what the best height was for that and uh then we're going to do that on the other wall as well so just grabbing those shrinking them down and going to move them down with tulle and I think I would do this again I've done this before with some of the stone tiles that came with jungle Adventure but I don't think I've ever done it with these before and I just thought it looked really pretty It gave a little bit more texture to this kitchen I also moved up some of the curtains here in the kitchen using tool it was just a nice way to do that without having to uh more precisely try and line them up it's a little annoying because I did that though when I went to place these cutting boards they were going to be sitting behind the backsplash so I ended up using tul as well to just drag those out a little bit further so that they were in front of that backsplash detail that I added also added a plant next to the sink we have a pressure cooker over here and this shelf that has some like coffee items on it and then going to figure out which stools to put here it's all very neutral but I still feel like it looks very highend I guess neutral is pretty high-end nowadays I feel like you don't see as much color in more modern spaces but I do a lot of colorful Builds on the channel I always think they're fun but uh I just thought that this lended itself better to this particular build uh so yeah just filling up this little section here of the counter with some plates and figuring out what sort of other Decor I want to have in the kitchen what their clutter to make it feel lived in uh but not too messy and I also got a little Runner rug over there between the sink and the stove top and uh getting some jars as well uh I think this kitchen came out really cute it's actually like in the same room as the dining room so I don't have two separate rooms for that but I thought that that was fine it's more open concept which is more modern nowadays I'm not really sure how I feel about most open concept places in real life I've never been in one or had one so I'm not sure if it's something I would like in my own home but I I guess we'll see in the future if I can uh get a house someday what I end up going for or being able to afford I guess the more open cons of things are more expensive too so I'll probably have a closed off floor plan like I do now in my apartment but I'd be curious what to to know what everyone else thinks about open concept living I've heard a lot of very mixed opinions on whether or not people like it or not and what their experiences have having that versus having a closed off floor plan in real life uh so definitely let me know what you think I'd be very curious to find out and also which you prefer in The Sims and if I should do more of one or the other I would love to know that but anyway we are outside now by the downstairs pool and I was trying to figure out the stairs leading down to this they looked a little odd so I ended up making it so it doesn't go down on both sides with those platforms only on one but I make them wider so that they didn't look as goofy at least I'm pretty sure I get rid of half of them so I'm just like H this looks weird I don't know what to do and so I'm just messing around with this more and extending the pool and fiddling with it quite a bit so I thought I would leave that in so you could see the whole process of me trying to figure this out because there was just something wrong and sometimes it takes a while to figure out how to fix it because if you can't figure out what the problem is how do you fix it so yeah getting a different fence here uh fence in the backyard and this is where I am getting rid of some of those pieces which helped so much and I also ended up extending the pool a little bit here so that there was more space for your Sims to swim around in there uh but I still had plenty of space to put a couple of lounge chairs down here and I end up putting a couple of pool loungers as well so uh you can float around in the water there ends up being a few down here as well as one up in the second pool as well uh the first two I grabbed are from Island living and I'm pretty sure the other one I grabbed right here yeah this one is from for rent it has I think some tigers on it or one of the swatches does is that the one I use I'm not sure uh but I think that's a really cute one and I was excited to use it and then I decided to use some half walls just wrapping around these steps here to act as a railing and blended it all in quite nicely so just painting those now and that's most of the decoration that's going to be out in that area I do end up coming back to this a little bit later and adding a couple of chairs out outside of that primary bedroom but uh just adding some plants now these are some low-lying plants from Island living I think they're really pretty and I just thought that they worked nicely here granted I think this area of Oasis Springs probably is the more realistic area to have a lot of greenery since it naturally has grass in this space but in OA Springs in general I don't tend to do very Lush Landscaping because it's a desert but I thought that these looked nice and then I used a bunch of these debug Stone items to make this like pathway leading up to the front door which I thought looked really cool so just going to place a bunch of these down they're kind of staggered I thought that that looked the best and I do a bunch of terrain paint under them to make it look more realistic I feel like there'd be a lot of like dirt and sand and stuff and of course getting some more plants I got some succulents throughout here we have palm trees all over and I needed to get a gate heading into that area as well and uh yeah I think it looks so cute I I really enjoyed this one particularly when I was working on the landscaping and I realized I could use this plant from for rent it is from the like live edit objects catalog I just think it's a really nice one and I'm always happy to get more plants that come with like debug and live edit in various packs because the details on them are always so nice and so it's just it's lovely to have more options for landscaping but here I am trying to figure out a little bit better how I want to lay out the living room because I really wanted to make sure we had a place to hang up a TV or have a fireplace so I ended up putting this little wall as a separator and there ends up being a fireplace and a TV on that wall and on the other side there ends up being mirrors and a bar I also have a full grand piano in this space because this room was so giant I really wasn't sure what to put there so I thought that that was a good Edition and I ended up using the frame TV from the modern Lux kit here because it just looks really high-end and it made sense for this house and then just moving in some of more of those curtains that I've been using throughout the rest of the build they add a little bit of color cuz the one I'm using is like a pinky brown color which I think helps to break up the colors and I also loved using the chandelier here I went and placed that up on the upper level hanging down over the stairs from the um from The Loft space that one is from dout I'm pretty sure and it's just so nice and I never use that because it's so big it's really hard to find find a spot that that makes sense so anyway this is the living room I leave it as is for a very long time before I go back and fully decorate it I like put down the basics the couch the chairs and the rug and then I was like H that's good for now I don't know why I did that but we will finish that up a little bit later and uh make it feel complete but first it looks like we are working on the dining room I went with more neutral Vibes in here and I used the same light that I used in that uh staircase space here as well I just shrunk it down so that it wasn't colliding with the table and there actually ends up being another like little built-in area over on this side of the kitchen I just put a couple of counters and cabinets there and decorate that area it just felt like it was empty and then I was able to add another area with these little uh like vertical slats to make it feel like it was balanced with the other side of the kitchen I got some PL over here I also got the drink tray which is from I believe that's for the backyard stuff pack or maybe that one's spotty we have a couple of different drinky trays and also a fruit bowl and stuff but anyway we are now back up in the living area and I am getting a lamp to put over here and a plant and actually going to finish decorating this space instead of just leaving it as is so just grabbing a coffee table here as well as some Decor to put on it I kept it pretty simple because I didn't want the space to feel messy and then I got a little table between the chairs as well and a vase on there it took me actually a really long time to figure out what to put on that table because I was like there's a lamp right next to it so I don't want to put a lamp there's a plant right next to it so I don't want to put a plant and then I ended up with a vase but I really wasn't sure what to put there for a while uh but over here by the piano I believe I just got a couple of poofs and then a hanging plant and I call that good because it's a weird little corner I really wasn't sure what to put here and I think that that worked quite well anyway this is the bathroom on the main floor it is a full bathroom so it does have a shower and tub in here as well as a toilet and a sink and I believe this is the only one I show in the build because they all pretty much look the same other than the fact that the layout might be slightly different but I use the same items pretty much in all of them so I just include this one here but I think it looks really nice I love this tile from Home Chef hustle it's been one of my favorites since that pack came out so are these counters of course I think that's got to be one of my favorite stuff packs of all time it is just so good highly recommend it if you don't already have it it's such a good one uh and then I put the toilet over here this also my favorite toilet in the game which is from Tiny Ling do you have a favorite toilet I've asked this before in videos but it's always interesting to hear what everyone's favorite items are so uh yeah just getting a little rug in here a couple of paintings on the wall the towels and that should be it for the that bathroom and look 20 minutes in we're finally finishing the desk space from the primary bedroom uh so I end up actually cluttering this up quite a bit I don't think it looks messy but it definitely looks stylized and like lived in uh so I do end up getting this little plant I don't keep it that small it ends up actually sitting on top of that pile of books I thought that that worked a little bit better and I get a ton of other stuff up here there ends up being a bunch of books I have this clock and I just play around with placing everything and trying to make it look as realistic as possible uh that shelf that I just kind of shoved over into the corner that is a modular piece from home not home shelf hustle from dream home decorator and uh I was just using it to help me place things at the correct level so that I could more easily like decorate this space so uh it's just kind of hanging out there for the moment while I decorate I will be deleting it afterwards it's not going to stay just hanging out on the door but yeah I just got a couple of like sculpture things here we have some pens and pencils I got some more books and I think it ends up being a really cute desk space I really was happy with that uh but here is that balcony space right out by the pool right off the primary bedroom I just added a couple of these chairs these ones are from I think those are from the modern Lex kit and then I just added a couple of plants over on this wall as well and that should be it for this balcony space and you can see that the primary bedroom's bathroom is already decorated and then we're back downstairs on the other side of the living room where I have this little bar space I added some full length mirrors and a couple of decorations a little plant in the corner and then I end up actually using a couple of those wall pieces from the kitchen to just add some extra Decor on this wall here so those are just going to go up the wall as a nice Decor piece I thought it looked kind of cute something a little bit different and then we are outside now on the main porch when you first walk up to the house that's right down by the main pool and I decided to have some sort of an outdoor kitchen here as well as a hot tub it's not something I do that often but it felt like the correct amount of fancy for this house uh so I ended up using the counters from cool kitchen but the like the bar not the bar what would you call it I guess it's the barbecue the grill that has like a built-in fridge and all kinds of stuff and that is from the desert Lux kit uh and kind of combined a bunch of those items out here and tried to make it look pretty luxurious I think I achieved it uh there's also a nice table and chairs out here I also end up getting a couch and chairs over on the other corner but I not do that yet because we now are bouncing back into the interor of the house to work on the bottom floor because there is still two rooms down here plus a garage that I have not decorated plus the hallway uh the bathroom is already been decorated cuz I did that off camera but um I I didn't want to forget the entire first floor of this this house uh so more balancing around in this build that happens occasionally not in every build hopefully it's not too bothersome but I I don't know what to say about it it's just kind of how I how I did with this build it's probably a little bit of my ADHD coming through when I'm like oh wait this room and then I completely forget what I was doing but anyway this room here is going to be a small gym I believe I just have a punching bag a um a treadmill and a weight machine in here and like a TV so you're s could watch TV while they are exercising I just thought it was a nice use of the space and I didn't want there to be multiple bedrooms because I wasn't imagining this was a family home and there was like kids living here I really felt like there would be like a spare bedroom if they have company but I didn't want both rooms to be bedrooms so I decided a gym would be a nice way to split that up uh so that is what we are doing here just adding some plants there's some weights there's a yoga mat in the corner and I think I get some other sort of decorative piece up there oh I got these like little perfumes from Spa I just thought that they looked cute and it's not an item I use very often and then I got a couple of mirrors in here as well and a plant and I think that should be it for the gym and we should be decorating the the uh like I I keep wanting to call it the primary it's not the primary we already decorated that this is the spare bedroom so it's very minimally decorated I just have a bed couple of bedside tables a little bit of art above the bed and a dresser there's almost no extra decorations in this space I just wanted want it to feel like a nicely put together space that's very rarely used uh so that's what I ended up doing here I just got our lamps there I put a mirror on the wall over here and then I ended up getting the matching dresser to the bedside tables which are all from Seasons I just felt like it made the most sense for the wood tone and I think I got a mirror up above that as well yeah that one is from spot and then a plant over in the corner and then finally we were working on the garage it's very small I didn't do a lot in here here I just wanted to make sure it was decorated to some extent so there's a closet in here we have our outdoor trash can I also end up adding I believe a St counter space with a sink and there's a bike in here and I think is it the flower arranging table or The Woodworking bench I put in here I want to say it's the woodworking bench but we shall see because I don't remember which one but I just wanted it to look like there were some built-in counter space here and I put those tools that actually came from the crystal creation stuff pack I thought that looked quite nice there and then over in this corner is where I put that workbench and I end up putting some tools on the wall there as well and uh it's it's pretty simple garage it's not it's not too overly decorated since we don't really have things for garages in the game since we don't have cars uh but here is that seating space I had mentioned before on the front porch with a couple of chairs and a couch and that is pretty much it for this build I had so much fun with the shell challenge I would definitely do something like this again so I really hope the Sims keeps posting these uh cuz this was just such a blast and something different to do so I hope you enjoyed this build if you did make sure you give it a big thumbs up
