all right a little announcement for all the people watching this channel what's up you're all awesome hope you're having a good end of the year and all that so I did a little poll online asking people if they wanted a forum or if they wanted a mastodon site and most people voted for a forum but I gotta tell you I'm cynical and I don't believe that people will use a forum in 2022 and 2023. so what I've ended up doing is going for something that's a little bit in between both I'm not using Mastodon but I've got a service set up that is similar to Mastodon so let's take a look at what we've got here this is easy mode.im and I set this up so that we can have a nice Community for everyone to hang out talk about Indie Games video game music retro games tabletop gaming you know cozy stuff like that it's not really for Tech so if you want to talk about tech and stuff like that maybe go find a mastodon server I mean you can talk about tech to an extent here but in my opinion Tech is not the thing Tech is the thing that gets you to the thing that's a quote from the first season of Halt and Catch Fire amazing show if you haven't seen it but it's true because you know the technology simply enables us to play the games and simply enables us to create music and and movies and whatever we do on our computers so I've never been that interested in the actual hardware and that sort of thing there's an art to that and some people are really interested in the art of how the hardware works and how all the circuitry is put together I think that's cool but that's never what I really wanted to get into when I started Tech Syndicate and I've been much happier since I've been focusing more on gaming content and creative content so that's what easy mode.im is for it's for everybody who wants to come out and come and hang out and talk about that kind of stuff so let me just show you around the site really quick and then I'll talk about how to set it up now you'll notice it looks a lot what the hell is this this is the guy who does the voice for guy brush Three Wood uh yes glad he's posting that now you'll notice there's all kinds of people here I follow and this wall looks very similar to Twitter and if you look at the different addresses of the people I'm following a lot of them are on Mastodon so this is a platform called calci and it's compatible with Mastodon but it does so much more and it's it's got a lot of cool things going for it so while you can follow anybody on Mastodon like if you want to follow Chris Perillo or something like that you can simply just click on follow when he's on the page or you can like you know if you follow him on on his instance on his remote instance right here you know you'll see someone unmasked and on whatever it is just copy their entire username with the URL at the end come back to easy mode search paste and it'll of course I'm already on this page but it'll pop up with this page or you can actually come up here to the URL and just easy mode.im and then post the other users Mastodon account and you can follow them so you can follow people all over Mastodon miskey or any of the other Federated websites so that's going to be really cool but that's not what this is exactly about you have your home page here which is all the people that you're following on any other websites and on easy mode that I am local just shows you the people who are on this server and these are people you do follow but also people that you do not follow so this shows you all the stuff that's happening you know locally right here and that's really cool because you know the people who join hopefully they'll be of like mind and maybe you can like find some cool people make some friends play some video games schedule some game nights and stuff like that we have more timelines we have a recommended one here where I've just gone through and said like okay these are the Mastodon instances that I really think are cool I've added them to a list so that they'll be recommended to you so you can scroll through and maybe find some cool people that way people to follow and be careful with nerdculture.d and nerdsculture.edu please update your SSL it's always given me issues and those are the main ones you need to check out right now you first get to easy mode.im you'll be presented with this page here it's just it's pretty simple stuff it's kind of ugly I'll update this eventually but I don't spend a lot of time here so if you click explore you can actually come and like look at the website and stuff like that over here you can see the rules and then you can sign up and when you first start you'll be presented with this little tutorial next it says hey change your banner in your profile this is your profile here I want to note if you scroll down there's additional information click on this and then you can put in label One content on label two content two this allows you to put a label and then a URL so it can be like my webpage.com you can do https Mischief I'm I'm typing with a microphone in my way so it's a little difficult but yeah you can do that and set it up so you have links on your your page and those will show up on your on your bio so anyway you go through this for just a second it's pretty quick and then we have some users here that you can follow some recommended users you can see who's on the server and what's going on maybe follow some people that'll help populate your home page make an introductory post and use hashtags because you know what's cool the hashtags are seen here but the hashtags are also seen all across Mastodon so if you do hashtags you know for stuff that you're into maybe you'll find other people on Mastodon who are into those same things so I've only followed a couple of accounts here and that's all that's coming up on my on my home timeline I've only followed this I may be two accounts so yeah you need to go and follow some more people and if you're wondering who you should follow I created a little section of the website to give you some ideas on people to follow and if you go here the links in the description you can click this got a list of like some people you may want to follow a lot of these people just work in the game industry or you know they they post really cool pixel art and stuff like that so it'll make your website nice and cozy this game looks pretty awesome that's in development here and they're on Mastodon so you can just click on follow there and then when you go back to your timeline their stuff will start showing up on your timeline so go through this list and as we you know as I find more cool people I'll post them here and be like hey there's other cool people maybe you want to follow and that'll help populate that a little bit now this is something that's probably the coolest thing here you have something called channels when you click on channels it's kind of like forums because you know you have like different categories and that's what a channel really is it's just a you know a category but the cool thing is this works like a forum and it also works like a micro blog or like Twitter so I've only created one now I want some options and some ideas from everybody like what other channels do you want we've got dos games because we need that but we need like you know do we need a separate category for SNES Genesis and everything else or do you just want like retro games as a category that's what I'm thinking I'm thinking dust games retro games you know maybe early Windows games or something I'm not sure how to set up the categories game music will be a separate category or a channel I should say so I'll set this up but right now we just have DOS games and you come here and you can post stuff that's specific to Dos games and be sure to always tag with DOs or dos gaming and tag it with whatever game you're talking about and also maybe the also so maybe like RPG or you know FPS or whatever just so we can have those tags now the reason it's nice to have tags is because you know you as an individual have one other really cool thing you can do see the little flying saucer over here click on that and click on manage antennas now we don't have any antennas here it is something that catches tags and keywords so let's just call this one dos so if you really love dos games you can set up a tag or an antenna called dos and it'll you can fill this up with keywords it's not just going to look for the for the hashtags and stuff like that it'll also look for keywords so I'm going to do DOS your favorite game is Daggerfall right whatever separate with a line break there we go you can have stuff to exclude you can make it case sensitive whatever I'm just going to save that now when we come back and click on the antennas we have a list now now we have DOS it was you know it's been created click on dos and there's nothing there yet so it's listening for stuff that is in that category and as people post and stuff like that it'll go to your antenna so it's kind of like you can have your own categories if you're not satisfied with the channels that we have you create your own there with the antennas so there's there's more I mean there's there's way more there's so much that you can do with this website uh announcements are always really important I want to show you drive because it's it's really cool so drive only has a couple things there let me switch back to my main account so I can really show you what Drive is like all right when you are dealing with Drive the way it works is everything you post in any of your posts like whenever you make a post or whatever if you attach an image or something like that it's uploaded to the server and then a copy of that is placed in drive now the cool thing is here if I wanted to make a new post or if I wanted to share something with someone else I can do that and reuse the same image from drive like here's let me just I was making something earlier so I'm going to make a new post which are called notes thank God they're not tweets or toots anyway just hello yes attach files I'm going to attach them you can upload stuff if you like we've got some space on the server it's not too expensive and now we can attach stuff from drive and now this is all the stuff that you've ever uploaded if you know anything you've ever attached or whatever and you can click on multiple things to attach and this is not going to re-upload things to the server so that helps with you know saving space and stuff like that but essentially allows you to create new posts and check this out you can upload way more than you can on Twitter look at that you can do up to 16. so we can have a full-on gallery here and also the post length it's 3000 right now if you need more than three thousand let me know but you could essentially have a gallery and post up to three thousand characters so you could write like a little blog and then have a gallery that goes along with it I think it's a really cool feature close that out it remembers if you close out the thing you're like oops closed it it should remember unless you don't have your JavaScript and stuff enabled so make sure that's enabled I'll let you look around the rest some of the stuff has not been updated yet there are chats you can do now one thing I want to note is um I don't think that the the I don't think that the the chats and stuff are encrypted I'm not 100 sure on this I know they're not on Mastodon I haven't fully verified it on This Server so I don't think that it's a secure platform for chatting if you wanted to have a secured private chat this is not the place to do it if you want to like schedule a game night or goof off or something like that then this is fine so just just be aware of that I haven't this is not verified it might be encrypted I don't know but I'll double check but just assume that the stuff you post on here is not not secret all right next up I want to show you the settings menu here because everyone has access to this I have a few more settings on here but there's migration if this is for importing your other accounts you know moving stuff you have to save the other account is an alias then go to that account and move it here but you can also move your account elsewhere so you have to go there and create an alias and then come back here and move your account to the new one so you can move your accounts around next up we have themes you can explore a lot of this other stuff on your own I've created my own little theme here that I like but you know you can around we've got so many different things and themes that you can play with all right how about that hacker theme so switch UI we can do classic there we go if you look at the Timeline it's more laid out like like Twitter let's go back to themes here I kind of like the like the regular theme but it's whatever you like the other UI that is really useful for desktop is called deck and it's kind of like a tweet deck or something like that now this one when it first starts off it's completely empty and you use this little plus button over here to add different columns you know like I want a column of my mentions and while you're doing that each column you know like you have you right click up here on top of the column you do column settings I recommend making them all flexible so that they resize but you can change the size of each column as well like I want this one to be huge 700. there we go it's it's getting as big as it can based upon the other ones so you know it may fight with some of the other ones that I say that I want to be big let's make it small all right check mark I don't want it to be flexible there we go just 100 always 100 there we go this tiny little column it's goofy so you can come and like really build something that's just for you and God this is actually actually I kind of like this I might keep it go back to the default UI it's a little less busy but you know it's just however you want to do it oh this thing is going to get so much coverage on this stupid video anyway so go over there check it out make some friends say hi to everybody get off the toxic social media I'm not gonna put like any third-party ads or anything on here if I do any kind of AD that'll be like a notification that you know there's a new album out or something like that or or like there's a deal going on in the store so I'll keep the ads like relevant to us and it'll mostly just be stuff that helps pay for the server fees but those are not too crazy not too crazy at all also there's one really important thing you need to know about and I'm going to use uh the absurdist here hope they don't mind but yeah we have cat mode yes look at that very important so how do you enable cat mode we'll just go to your profile here click here and then edit profile and then down on the bottom you're like are you a cat yes yes I am a cat there now you're a cat we may have Mouse mode coming up sooner rap mode so cat mode and rap mode the only problem with rap mode is that rap mode will hide you from all the kids this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life all right uh everybody head over to easy mode.im sign up and let's talk about some old games so when you get over to easy mode.im I've got three questions that I want you to put on there post them up and we'll talk about them I wonder what your favorite dos game is I want to know what your favorite Windows 98 95 game is I want to know that's you know slash Windows 95 98 whatever and I want to know what your favorite Windows XP game is so head over to easy mode.im and I'll see you there and hopefully this website's a lot Cozier and doesn't have the constant garbage outrage farming and constant posts about stupid billionaires and corporations and governments and the hate hate hate and just advertisements so get away from that in 2023 go to a smaller Community you may not get as many likes but I guarantee you it will be a nicer experience and let's get back to Niche and get away from all this monoculture nonsense monoculture has destroyed so much of of who we are as people and having Niche communities is really important so that's why I've created this I want to get back to Niche communities and get away from these huge corporate run just silos of monoculture so I'll see on easy mode all right bye everybody
