there are a lot of differences between low and High ELO in OverWatch this is why often times when you ask a High ELO player some advice they just don't give you advice that makes sense and often times as a low ELO player when you're trying to replicate what your favorite streamer or Pro Player is doing it just doesn't translate well I'm someone who has been hard stuck at basically every single rank at one point on both console and PC but also climb to the highest ranks of play so I have a good understanding of the key differences between low and high and the big mistakes that everyone is making whether they're trying to teach someone something or whether they're trying to climb the ranked ladder now the first one is team Reliance and this is a really really big one because often times you'll hear someone say my team can never do their job my teammates always die in feed and my teammates are not healing me or they're not taking space or whatever the case may be people will often blame their team and this is the thing in a higher ranked Lobby you can often expect High High ranked players to act in a certain way now this isn't always the case but often times you at the very least expect a certain amount of heals a certain amount of peel a certain amount of damage a certain amount of everything while you're not necessarily expecting your teammates to carry you you do expect your teammates to at least behave in a reasonable way and when I say reasonable I mean like randomly in a low rank ELO sometimes your teammates will just like all just up and leave out of nowhere like you'll be playing on the front line and four of your teammates will just all up and leave randomly to go chase a tracer in the backline and you're just alone out of nowhere you're like wait what the hell just happened that can happen in low ELO and it doesn't happen nearly as much in High ELO so this is the big advice that I'll give you try to play in a way that doesn't expect anything from anybody and what I mean by that is playing around things like natural cover or going for plays that you can 100% do alone even if you think in your mind the natural thing is to push up the enemy is low don't expect your teammates to necessarily follow that up with you because the team Alliance should be at a bare minimum don't go for a play just because it makes sense and if you expect things from your teammates too much you're just going to be left disappointed now the next thing is the gaps in positioning and this is just a really important concept because in high rank most of the time people are going to be playing where they know they're not going to get super punished for it right they're playing around corners they're playing around walls and they can reasonably get out of Harm's Way so they're not just going be isolated away from their team and just die for free but in low rank people will often play out in the open outside of cover in the middle of nowhere but get away with it because no one is punishing people for being in bad positions so in the high rank everyone kind of respects each other to an extent and plays in a place where they know they at least have some amount of recourse if they get pushed whether that's backing up turning the corner utilizing their utility but in low rank everyone's kind of just playing Just anywhere and no one's really learning the right place to play because you're not guaranteed to get punished for and this was one of the problems that when I was hard stuck in freaking silver and gold I never really learned how to position well because I would play in the same spot every single game and sometimes it would work just fine and sometimes it wouldn't work at all and it was really because there was no receptive feedback loop I was just getting away with things cuz people were not punishing me for them but then I would run into someone that would and then just lose so it was just it felt like a coin flip a lot of the time but it was really my play that was punishing me but I was playing the same way every single game now the general advice I'll give you is that if your position gives you options it is better being around a piece of cover being on The High Ground being anywhere that gives you an option whether that's backing away denying a Peak from the enemy or retreating to your team the more options you have in your position the stronger that position is now next up let's talk about consistency which is a big problem for a lot of players even high ranked players do suffer from consistency but sometimes low ranked players will have those really good games and really bad games for seemingly random reasons I remember back when I was hard stuck in Diamond I would often have games where I would just Slaughter the enemy team you know dropping 30 40 bombs and I would feel great about myself and then the next game it felt like no matter what I did I couldn't get any value and I just fed and fed and fed and I would be frustrated with myself cuz I'm like yeah it's obviously my fault this game but I didn't play any different than the last game why did last game work and then this game didn't and that's like a direct difference for high ranked players because High ranked players or High ELO players don't allow themselves to get farmed over and over again so there's a lot more play style alterations as you get better at the game you get better at changing how you're playing so let's say one game I was playing Genji and I popped off and I was doing really well and then in the next game I try to go into that game and play the exact same play style but it's not working I'm getting shut down a high ranked player will quickly identify oh well they're playing these characters and they're peeling a lot for me so they're shutting me down and perhaps I should play play less aggressive I should play more passive focus on living and farming my blade as opposed to trying to go for solo plays but back when I was in the lower ranks of play I was like my play style works I just messed something up I'm just going to do it again and do it better this time and it didn't work and then I'm like ah I messed up again I'm just going to do it again and do it better next time and every time I do it it never it never works so it does take a bit of self-reflection and being like okay you know maybe I'm not mechanically really there right now maybe there's things that are kind of shutting me down but I'm not going to allow myself to consistently get no value over and over and over again because then I'm sure to lose the game like my teammates should not have to put me in the backpack to win this game so I'm going to find a way to not get farmed over and over and maybe that means swapping up my play style or maybe that means swapping up my hero but regardless it's something that you should consider if you are having these games where some games are popping off and then other games are performing really well try to figure out the reasons why the games that are going well are going well and then also be willing to adapt your play to something that will get value or you will not get farmed at the very least if you're being overly focused orever play you're going for seemingly gets shut down now the next thing that's a really really big difference between low rank and high rank play is the pace of play when I was in lower rank I felt sometimes that everything that would happen I would get overwhelmed like there's just like way too many things going on someone would jump me and I would mess up my abilities and then there would be something else going on and then someone's yelling at me and Cals and there's just like way too much there's way too much going on but then eventually you know I climbed the ranks I got better I was hard stuck for a very long time in silver gold PLA and diamond and then I eventually made my breakthrough straight to grandm and top 500 and all that stuff but once I went back you know playing on a new account whether I'm trying to rank up an account and the few times that I've played in actual lower ELO again everything just moves in slow motion now so everything that was super overwhelming for me before back when I was in low ELO legitimately now going back back in playing in low ELO after playing in a higher tier of play everything just literally moves very slow it's like the openings and the gaps and opponent's play the mechanical execution the speed at things getting done and being executed it's all happening at a much much slower Pace everything is happening at a slower Pace I like to think about it like cooking for those of you who don't know I used to be a line cook and I've also been watching the TV show The Bear which is super irrelevant to this video but I'm throwing it in anyways where things are happening like crazy and just like chaos in the kitchen and like you would be completely overwhelmed but eventually you know you get in a rhythm you understand how things are supposed to move and where things are supposed to go and you get faster and faster and better and better and more conditioned for it and then all of the sudden if you just were cooking at home or something like that or just like in a random Mom and Pop Shop like on a random Tuesday everything would just like be slow maybe even almost boring because of how slow things are moving and that's kind of what happens as you get into more more and more turbulent Waters faster engagements it's almost like your overall input output gets super honed and you can just kind of take an information and do the right play automatically a lot easier and this is one of the reasons why you know looking back at it now even though I felt really hardstuck for most of those ranks and in a lot of cases there were times back especially in the beginning parts of my journey to climb I would blame you know a lot of other people for my play but now going back on it it's just like I was just not really used to the environment I wasn't comfortable or confident yet enough and it's one of the reasons why it's it's like impossible for a person that truly deserves a much higher rank to stay in a lower rank it's just like even if you weren't trying it would be a really really hard to lose like it would just be hard to lose now next up it's about controlling people's actions and something that I really need you to understand if you want to climb out of low ELO you want to get to High ELO this is the easiest way to do it in low ELO you can easily make someone do what you want them to do if you're trying to make them do that thing and what does this actually mean this means that if your goal is not to go and kill the the Anna right that's not your goal your goal is I'm going to get the Anna to waste her sleep I'm going to get the Anna to use her nade on herself I'm going to do these things if that's your goal it is so easy to because often times people will take a little bit of pressure a little bit of focus or damage or whatever and they will be too under pressure and they'll make mistakes they'll throw their abilities they'll throw their nade they'll throw their sleep out and once they don't have these things because your first goal was not to I'm going to go kill this Anna and then the Anna uses her nade in her sleep like she was going to of course and then maybe you had to back off cuz she hit them or whatever the case may be your first goal is I'm going to bait these abilities I'm going to bait them I'm going to bait specifically nade you try for that and you can get people to do exactly what you want you want the hog to hook you know that he's looking for it you want him to hook jiggle peek a corner shoot jiggle shoot jiggle Hogs will just throw out the freaking hook all the time people will do exactly what you want them to do it's so easy to make people do what you want them to do if you're thinking about them doing that like if you're thinking about making them do that but in higher ELO the higher you climb the more and more people understand your intentions the harder and harder it is to force someone to use an ability without them legitimately needing to so like as an example an honor will understand oh this person's playing a little bit far away oh this person's playing a corner they're obviously not committing any abilities to me they obviously want me to use my nade use my sleep because the second I use these abilities all of the sudden I'm vulnerable so I understand that the battle to win the 1 V one the battle to stay alive is not in me hitting my sleep me hitting my nade it is whether or not I can position myself or move away or get out of this person's fire without using my abilities because if I ever am forced to use it I'm screwed that is the game so it's super important for you to understand this and it's very very strong if you realize how easy it is to control someone and make them do what you want them to do if you go into an engagement thinking about I'm going to make this Zara use bubble I'm going to make this person use this ability I'm going to M bait this out and just do it intentionally it's a super powerful technique and uh yeah um it's it's just going to get you a lot of free games if you learn how to do it right now the next key difference is challenging space and often times in low ELO players will really Force objectives sitting Point sitting cart they really put a big emphasis into that thing as like the ultimate thing that wins or loses you the game but in High ELO players often times will understand a priority in taking positions that give you an advantage in future fights it's like looking beyond the scope of right now into the future and the future of fights so this is something like pushing past the card and staggering taking space positioning yourself on The High Ground caring about these good positions so like as an example going to The High Ground and clearing off The High Ground which is not the most direct way to go to the point and a lot of times the lower and rank you are the more Point minded you are which is like we got to go point point point point but then realize you take the good position and you get to win the fight and then the point's free that's a really important thing it's like yes point is important but it's like the final objective it's like something that you get automatically after other conditions are met and there's other things that are more important it's like a lot of times low rank players are the lower in rank you are and this was true for me as well when I was in low ELO it's just like you're very moment by moment and High ELO players think about things more um fight by fight or objective by objective or like in larger time intervals much bigger time intervals and this is the ultimate thing that you need to take away from this often times you should play a good position even at a quote unquote cost if the opponents are on the on the objective and they're taking the objective but you don't have to contest it yet because they're not about to cap the whole objective play the good position play The High Ground Play the place where you're more effective play your effective range win the fight and yes there is a cost they got a tick they got some ground they almost kept the objective but that isn't the same thing as playing a worse position and just dying and then the last thing that I did want to talk about is mechanics which I think is probably the least important thing but it is important nonetheless and basically the only true difference between low ELO players and High ELO players with mechanics is that players in High ELO don't necessarily have better mechanics and that seems kind of strange you would think that they would always have better mechanics but I've met some like plat widowmakers and just some plat aimers that are just like completely cracked mechanically you're like what the hell but a high ranked player perfectly understands their mechanics and their limits they're not going to go for a play unless they're confident they can pull it off they're not going to go and do something that requires good mechanics if they don't have the mechanics to match that while you know often times low ranked players feel a little bit like a dice roll where they'll go for a duel they'll go for a challenge they'll peek an angle they'll challenge somebody not only just are they at a disadvantage in some of these fights but they're not 100% guaranteed to win them or not win them so it's not that they are necessarily Better or Worse mechanically it's that they are a bit over optimistic or unsure with exactly how reliable their mechanics are and often times they off a little bit more than they can chew versus you know the hired ELO player will be a little bit more realistic with yeah I probably shouldn't challenge this because there's a there's a possibility that it won't work out and I don't want to play for that possibility but anyways these are my big findings between low ELO and High ELO and the big mistakes that a lot of you are making that is preventing you from climbing so yeah if you have any questions about any of these definitely let me know in the comments down below and if you want private coaching My Links will be in the description but thank you so much for coming by hope you enjoyed the video and I'll see you next time
