hi my name is Chris and this is my 3D printer it's a sad slow and clapped out end of three and today I'll show you how it went from printing like this to this what did it cost and was it worth it [Applause] the end of three is probably the most sold 3D print of all time it's cheap it has a humongous Community around it with every upgrade and mod you can think of there is even a guy who cuts Steel on his endo3 so naturally I started modding this thing first only some minor changes like printed cable chains or adding a draw but after a while this got somehow out of hand [Music] so what Roger here today my wife sent me do you know why [Music] this is getting out of hand you need help listen I had to do something all the cool kids on YouTube are printing super fast on the Warrensville bamboo labs and here I am stuck with this clapped out box I mean don't get me wrong I love my end of three for the 130 bucks I paid it's a fantastic printer that has produced a plethora of prints over the last four years however compared to a state-of-the-art core XY printer it may seem a bit outdated that's my trusty little Ender free and let's just say it has seen some better days their breast C nut is completely worn the fans are slowly dying the hot interminister is giving inconsistent readings the extruder is keeping if you print fast the B wheels are worn and yeah the c-axis also squeaks like a barn door foreign you want to be accepted by them by purchasing the same piece of equipment yeah kind of but on the other hand I also want to keep the Ender free since this was my first printer and I have a lot of great memories it's common for people to seek validation from others as a way to feel better about themselves but it's important to remember that the true self-worth comes from within the only way you can grow as a person is to fix your problems the biggest problems on the end of three are the single c-axis lead screw which leads to bending wobble and overall inconsistent layer lines the stock hotend it has a poor flow rate it is PTFE lined so you can't print above 240c and the mounting for the thermistor is also rack and third the ball next ruler even though I upgraded it to the aluminum version it is still skipping when printing faster and direct drive is undoubtedly the better system I could tackle all these issues individually by slapping on a Sprite extruder and a second C Rod but if you need to know anything about me then it's that we don't have as things here it may take longer and it may be more expensive but we don't settle for anything below our personal best the plan is to convert this end of three into a core XC printer based on the warrant switch wire in order to print all the necessary Parts out of ABS I need to install the fetus appedo hot end and the Orbiter 2 extruder and build an enclosure since the stock Parts aren't up to the task and while we are already at it we'll install Clipper on this Raspberry Pi this is without doubt the most useful upgrade you can do to any printer in short it enables you to control and monitor your printer via a web interface and much more but I won't go into much detail here it's like going from a Nokia 3310 to an iPhone since the credit card is already glowing it won't make much difference if we also invest in a magnetic Pei build plate [Music] nice yeah look at this beautiful with the printer now patched together the only thing left to do was to print out every part out of the cad file full disclaimer I didn't create these files I used the cad files from Thomas fien I changed the enclosure design and also the tool head since I find the stealth burner a bit too chunky for the end of three I want to sincerely thank every one of these guys and also everyone out there who releases their source files and keeps the open source spirit in their 3D printing Community going enough talking let's get printing foreign [Music] foreign I've also added my Fusion 360 files in the description if someone wants to build the same machine or use some parts the original and the free power supply is bigger than the one in the drawing so I had to cut out the puzzle by here and made some 22 millimeter spaces here all right listen up in case it isn't obvious enough I really can't recommend doing this to your only printer once something goes sideways you better have a well equipped Workshop or a friend with a 3D printer the second issue ran into was the t-nut from the motor mount was interfering with the socket head screw which fixes the extrusions together the solution for this was to rotate the Extrusion by 180 degrees with the Extrusion rotated the whole location is now further back and doesn't interfere with the motor mount since we've rotated the Extrusion there were no counter bars anymore so I had to add those foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] let's go [Music] [Applause] that sounds like a long-lasting adventure that takes up a lot of time and space what does your wife think about it well I've let it choose what the new printer will print outstanding move I'm curious is the new printer now better after I ran input shaper and calibrated it in short input shape will release the moving components back and forth measuring the resonance frequency with this data keeper adjusts the acceleration velocity of the printer's movement to counteract the effects of resonance I tested the Max accelerations and speeds the printer will reach with the stock steppers I did this just for fun because if I really wanted to print at lightning speeds I'd have to go down the rabbit hole so far that I'd need a flashlight a packed lunch and maybe even a tent foreign for the first Banshee essentially the 3D printers inaugural voyage [Music] foreign [Music] Ty rides I have to say with great speed comes great need for cooling there are 300 millimeter second Banshee suffers from a lack of cooling on their bow all the artifacts in the sea directions are gone it now prints in a quarter of the time and it also looks miles better than my capdot stock and the three now to the big question how much did you spend and was it worth it now before I delve into the financial details let me clarify one thing not a single item on this list was sponsored I willingly and cheerfully used my hard-earned cash to purchase everything call me Reckless call me wild but all the above call me financially irresponsible so including everything I paid 814 euros so the conversion was quite expensive because I used quality components and ordered most of them from Amazon basically as expensive as a new bamboo Labs p1p or Warren switch wire kit however building my own 3D printer has been a rewarding experience seeing it come to life tuning it and finally being able to print accurately and quickly brings a form of joy that you can't get from an off-the-shelf machine foreign things can give us a boost in confidence and can help us feel more in control of our lives so the 3D printer project is not finished right right [Music] [Music]
