This feels like an instructional video of what not to do in a survival situation.

Geology, dude. The land is that shape for a reason, and that reason is water. He literally builds a dam with holes in it, at the bottom of a drainage... then crawls inside to "sleep". Without a massively over-engineered water diversion system, this is just an elaborate death trap.
