this is a full carbon electric mounting bike frame and it costs just 680 [Music] this is an e-bike motor from bafang it's rated at 95 newton meters at all and it costs 650 dollars and this is a huge 840 watt hour battery it costs just 350 dollars in this video i'm going to show you how i ordered stripped sanded painted and built my very own cheap chinese electric mountain bike and i'll show you how i got a finish like this from a rattle can it's gonna be fit with some of the best quality components like this rockshox zeb fork super deluxe shock quality dt swiss will set and be built to be a full-on enduro e-bike and i call it the tube first off we need to rewind a couple of months i'd made a motor test video on youtube that was quite popular in it i compared some of the top e-bike motors head-to-head but i didn't include bafang i had a lot of comments about the quality of the bafang system literally hundreds of comments then i should test the bafang motor so i looked for a bike that i could get to test turns out there isn't any so i thought why not just build one myself [Music] there is a company that supply frames and they look pretty good so i've done some due diligence and i've looked at who else they supply they're called dengfu loads of good reports and they've bought out a new version called the e10 and the geometry looks pretty good it's got long reach 510 mil reach 65 degree head angle you pay them directly for everything so you pay them for the frame the motor and the battery uh i've got to say though the ordering process is not good at all like it's not amazon so you can't see uh delivery and kind of shipment updates and all that stuff you literally paypal some random email address 1 685 pounds which i was like no way am i doing that but i thought i'm gonna take a punt they seem pretty legit the frame seems pretty good the geometry seems like it could be pretty decent and that's one of the things that has stopped me ordering one of these chinese frames in the past the geometry looks like really old school but could this be could this be like a seriously capable enduro e-bike we'll have to see we'll have to wait until it turns up six weeks i've been so lucky to ride some amazing e-bikes over the past year but let's be honest the prices are creeping up and i get so many questions with people that have got smaller budgets looking for really good electric mounting bikes could i build a full carbon electric mounting bike with great suspension and really good component set for under 4 000 pounds that's my goal so i've already spent 1 685 pounds and this left me with a budget of just over two and a half thousand pounds time for some fun stuff shopping i was able to shop around and get the absolute best prices i could find on components and what i discovered in this time was that price fluctuated a fair bit so if things weren't at a good price i'd just wait a bit longer until i found something that was i knew i wanted to have great suspension wheels and brakes because this is key but the remaining drivetrain and finishing kit actually i'm happy with basic entry level it's all pretty good these days all of my shopping list bits i ordered got delivered quite quickly and all i needed to do was wait for the frame to arrive from china and in this time i was thinking have i made a huge mistake what if it never arrives but one day about 42 days after i ordered it it arrived here it is looks alright it's super smooth the finish if you look closely you can see some of the kind of weave uh some of the layup inside but it's a really smooth seamless finish you can see just down here we've got some of the wiring pre-installed in the frame and to me it seems pretty decent everything comes ready to go you can see here we've got some of the cable guides pre-installed linkage all looks decent cable runs here just in the rear chain stay full carbon frame set 680 so here's the motor bafang m 595 newton meters in torque uk spec or eu spec it's got the regular kind of 25.5 kilometer cutoff weighs a little bit more than some of the other brands this is 3.4 kilos you get all the bits the crank arms the chain ring you get everything all the wiring the little display it all comes complete and again it looks decent man like the quality of it really decent the machining and the the build quality just feels solid 48 volts 841 hour battery pack to go with it so looks pretty decent little carrying handle on it you can charge it on here you can also charge it on the bike removable with a key you know it's pretty decent so how much have i spent so far did i keep it under 4k 3895 pounds for everything however there is one more cost and that's paint never really painted anything other than my doors at home and my walls but i'm gonna give it a go this is a complete diy project so i've got rattle cans i've watched a couple of youtube videos i've got this purple chroma coat with a little kind of color shift in it first thing i did with my freshly built e-bike frame was to take it all apart again everything needed to come out i then taped up all the bearings to mask them off and i carefully cut around the edge with a sharp craft knife and started sanding it down with wet sandpaper yeah as you can imagine this took a long time and it's quite messy i crafted a spray booth using some old plasterboard and made my own paint stand using an old microphone stand then i got to work first off giving it a coat of primer sanding it down to get a super smooth finish and then the fun stuff started first coat was a base coat in black i then moved on to my purple and blue chroma coat this stuff has the colour shift in it and i gave it three coats of this with three coats down i was pretty happy with how it was turning out it looks pretty sweet i mean look at that color shift still got one more coat to go and then the clear coat but right now i'm just getting it super smooth like you can feel it you can feel how smooth it is and you can feel the bits that you've not done yet like this 800 grit sandpaper just gets out all that kind of little bit of imperfection in the spray just to give you that silky smooth finish before you give it the final coat [Music] 2k clear coat this is what's going on now this is the final stage of the paint i'm going to give it a big shot of this leave it to cure give it a slight sand down and then one final coat of this tomorrow after 24 hours and then we're good i mean look at it it looks pretty sick already doesn't it [Music] i am so so so over the moon how this has turned out considering it is from a rattle can who'd have thought that you can get this kind of finish this super slick clear smooth color shift purple and blue it looks absolutely brilliant do you ever start something and kind of think maybe i shouldn't have done this yeah about halfway through i was like this is a lot of work it's a fair play to anyone that does any kind of painting for a living because it is a lot of work but i've got to say i am super happy with how this turned out it's a little bit dusty uh just needs a kind of one saver but it looks pretty stunning i'm well happy from a rattle can took a long time to polish and i could have done a little bit more but it gets to the point where you're like one ride in the british winter and it's going to be absolutely trashed but i am well happy with that and i also did the chains day as well seats day so all i need to do now is build the bike i say all i need to do so i'm going to put this back together pop the rear linkage on and uh build it and see if it works i put the frame linkage together and sat and admired my diy handiwork for a bit then i got my tools out and got to work building the frame bike builds aren't too difficult but the most important thing i've found is having the correct tools a decent work stand good workspace and some patience [Music] rear cable in that was quite difficult the runs go in the chain stay like a lot of bikes and it's just a little bit fiddly but i crafted this kind of little bit of tape that i popped up through there and then just taped the end on and guided it through so the drivetrain i've gone for a cheaper drivetrain i really do believe that the key to a really good mountain bike or electric mounting bike is the geometry the frame the suspension is a really important part tires and i'm happy to have like the best suspension and real budget drivetrain so i've gone for shimano dior it's the cheapest 10 speed that i think is a really decent drivetrain this cassette weighs the same as the xt 12 speed obviously it has two less gears but it's cheaper like much cheaper in fact the whole 10-speed drive train costs like 125 pounds so it's a really good way if you're building a bike to get really cheap stuff that's really high performing so 10-speed drivetrain in fact the cassette derailleur chain and shifter all of that costs less than a single xt 12 speed cassette there you go really clean isn't it [Music] and this is what i mean about the frame design it's all it's all nice and snug there's no like there's no faffing around and trying to jam it in it just clipped in like really nicely got this tiny little discreet display it's quite small i'm not a massive fan of displays on bikes but this is fairly discreet and what i've noticed with buffang is everything's color color-coded so you don't even need or i haven't read the instruction manual of how to fit it but you've got green on here green port on here pretty self-explanatory and on all the connectors they're all color coded and they've even got a little arrow telling you exactly how to line it up so as an end user someone just that isn't a pro is pretty straightforward to just get as a kit and put together moment of truth i've got all of the cables in situ in the bike there we go that's come straight in so i'll put the bolt in there just to secure that hopefully there you go oh [Music] look at that she's gone straight in look at that that is a pretty sweet fit absolutely perfect fit and the ultimate test will it turn on and will it go yes it's quick it's so quick oh yes and it's fast i did it it so the bike is finally built i'm out here just to show you quickly around the bike make sure you're subscribed because the next video i do is going to be a ride review of this bike [Music] [Music] you
