why are we always comparing Final Fantasy 14 in World of Warcraft right up top I should let you know that you shouldn't like And subscribe I do not care about YouTube this conversation has been going back and forth for the better part of the last 50 years and I think it's time to add a new Fresh perspective we're going to go over some of the obvious points here but I want to bring up something that I think MMO players need to understand I think this realization will be good for you so stick around and find out what it is first we have to pull back the perspective get a 30 000 foot view of the situation there are people online most of them are on asmin gold subreddit that have tied their personalities and their identities to these ongoing live service games so in order to validate that substitution the champion their title is the one that's better than the opposition take a look around you for a second I want you to look past the MMO genre ignore Lost Ark in Guild Wars 2. don't look at old school RuneScape or Albion online it is 2023 as of the creation of this video and the games industry is very different than it was 10 years ago or even a 18 and a half years ago when World of Warcraft launched the games industry has largely moved on from subscription-based live service games all the biggest games in the world can be played for free and those premium titles that are still locked to a proprietary console are offering cinematic experiences unlike anything that either World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy 14 can offer you part of the futility of this debate is that one it's deeply subjective and two people are arguing over the supremacy of these ancient titles so with that in mind it's important for you to understand that you have been taken over by an MMORPG mind Goblin I would just argue that one of these games mind goblins is a little bit worse than the other you have limited leisure time you're getting older you can feel it so when you get online and you think about your dailies getting your tomestones running your weekly Mythic dungeons filling out Chloe's wondrous Tales or getting as many options in the great vault as possible for next Tuesday keep in mind that while there is a point where you could just be having fun doing is there is also a point where you could just be fulfilling a series of functions I want you to think back to when you were young and maybe you discovered Super Mario Brothers or sonic I want you to think about all of the games that you played not because you were trying to take part of a meta game not because you were chasing trophies or you were chasing weeklies or gear or item level but rather you were experiencing a video game for the joy of it when you go back and forth about this debate between Final Fantasy 14 and World of Warcraft I want you to go back to that place and remember before the Mind goblins occupied your brain it made you think that you had to log in every day or every week to fulfill a series of functions not necessarily to have fun playing a video game I want you to consider the idea that maybe you're addicted to fulfilling a series of functions because it's easier to confront a problem and solve it in a video game than it is to do so in real life the challenges in these video games are artificial and you can overcome them with a bit of practice not nearly as much as a real life skill would require hire you to Garner the only thing you risk losing is a little bit of time but maybe there's something that you're passionate about that you'd rather be working on consider that when you debate whether or not Final Fantasy 14 is better than World of Warcraft guys your MMORPGs are old and poisonous to your brain and I love playing them but I have no Illusions about how toxic they are to my life so the question should not be whether or not Final Fantasy 14 is better than World of Warcraft the question should be which one is worse for your health in the entire genre the answer is obvious Lost Ark Don't Play Lost Ark it's a very good game that's very bad for you within the confines of this conversation I think the question is also quite clear I lean on the side of Final Fantasy 14 because Final Fantasy 14 is designed with the idea that you're not always going to play and that's all right ignoring everything great about Final Fantasy 14 which is all of the incredible storytelling specifically in shadowbringers but throughout ignoring the incredible music ignoring the job job system that's free to switch into anytime that you want to ignoring the gameplay in the combat which is quite different from Wows but I find more enjoyable and on the flip side ignoring everything about World of Warcraft that I enjoy such as Dragon riding and World quests and leveling alts and the combat system which is a bit more simple is still very enjoyable the question should be which one of these games makes you want to log in not because you want to have fun but because you have to scratch some kind of metaphysical itch that's haunting your brain and I think it's obvious which one of the two does this worse than the other but despite my personal opinion about World of Warcraft being built a little bit more about keeping you in that world every single day it's important to note that dragonfly does a great job of backing off and letting you play it however you want to and it's also important to note that any video game can become this way for you my fiance became this way about Animal Crossing she had to log in at specific times of the day I don't even have to do that the answer is so simple you can play whatever you want to play you can play both you can do what I've done and grind in real life for some disposable income that you can then use to spend on two ongoing subscription titles so I'd love to do a real unironic breakdown of both of these games to determine whether or not one is better for you than the other but this video is a reminder that these are ancient titles that are vying for your ongoing attention and you don't have to relegate every hour of your free time to one game's ecosystem especially if you're using the function fulfillment of an MMORPG as a substitution for the real fulfillment of chasing after something substantial in your life and even if you're not looking to replace MMORPG playtime with something more substantial and meaningful there are other games that are passing you by premium titles that your PC can probably run that you're missing out on because you'd rather do your weeklies whether it's Mythic Plus or just collecting your tomestones you're logging into a game to check a box I am going to issue you a challenge now that we're at the end of the video I want you for the next three days this is not a big deal for the next three days not to log into a single live service game dust off an old console or maybe try something that's single player in my opinion all it takes is a solid three days of playing other video games that are not ongoing live services to break yourself free from the Mind Goblin that is telling you to log in to fulfill your functions and if you can break yourself free of that mind Goblin you can also break yourself free from this ff14 versus wow debate go ahead and do me and yourself a favor go to the comments section and write hashtag mind goblinchallenge give yourself those three days free yourself from this ongoing incessant conversation thanks for watching but like I said YouTube is cringe so do not follow me leave me alone
