[Music] [Music] hello geeks welcome to ten forums in this video where we look at how to save storage space and time with hyper-v differencing disks differencing disks means that a virtual machine uses two or more virtual hard disks the core Windows is stored on a so called parent disk for each new virtual machine we will create a child disk which then contains all user data software and so on one parent disk can be used to multiple child disks and virtual machines in this video I first create two parent VHD installing an English Windows 10 Pro verson 18:09 on it then use that base the parent to create three different virtual machines for different purposes in this example case I will create child disks and virtual machines for English Windows 10 Pro worse on 18:09 the finished Windows 10 Pro worse on 1809 and on English fast ring inside a preview virtual machine create a new virtual machine name it as you prefer connect it to an external or default switch the VHD can be small Windows requires at least 20 gigabytes although the VHD file size will be less than 12 gigabytes to speed up later virtual machines using this parent disk I will store the VHD on my system drive see which is an SSD drive you before starting to BM first time I will do my normal changes in settings disable secure boot give VM for virtual processors and disable automatic checkpoints you install windows normally you when windows welcome starts showing regions and accent screen windows is already completely functional pressing Shift + f10 opens command prompt which activates win key shortcuts and change these ease of access button to Settings button you can close command prompt immediately click ease of access button to open settings run Windows Update to get all the latest updates when done restart the virtual machine all done you can now shutdown the virtual machine and write-protect the parent virtual hard disk file you to create a differencing child disc select new hard-disk select differencing ask disk type as I will create three new virtual machines 18:09 in English and finish and inside a preview in English I will create folders for each of them on my specific hyper-v drive name them accordingly and store the child discs on one of the new VM folders I will then copy the child VHD file to two other VM folders you okay time to create new virtual machines and point them to use the child disk which I have copied to each VM folder you Merson 1809 english virtual machine created i repeat the steps to create the finish and insider preview ones you while the first of my three virtual machines based on copies of same child disc finishes the setup I can start Windows welcome on second one you on this last of my three virtual machines I want to have worse than 1809 but in Finnish in order to do that I need to install a Finnish language back and sous prep the virtual machine to change not only the display language but also the whole windows system language you okay inside of II am doing regard restart my finish 1809 VM has finished installing language back time to suite system language with Zeus breath you inside a VM has restarted it is now opted in for the fast ring you after installing the freeness language back in originally english windows and then sous prepping windows setup now allows me to choose system language i have now completely changed windows display and system languages you virtual machines using a child disk will stop working if parent disk is modified in any way therefore I will delete the VM used to create parent disk now I have already write-protected the parent VHD you that's it bigs thanks for watching you [Applause] you
