hype is sold more than product these days there's more effort put in hyping something than into the actual product that's being hyped kanye will literally hype albums that never ever drop he's done it like four times now enough if i tell you guys there's a big announcement in this video it would hype it up too much if i told you this is bigger news than the moon landing and whatever national treasure book of secrets secrets that they have hidden in the white house it might be overdoing it but it would also be 100 percent true it's nathan says this video is already a classic two seconds and it's a classic the feeling of being hyped for something that doesn't deliver is one of the worst feelings ever that's why i don't trust papa john's it feels like the very thing that kept you from enjoying it was your hype it couldn't meet your crazy high expectations maybe if you went in with zero expectations you would have enjoyed it it's too late for that now you'll never see happy feet two for the first time again i've had this thought before in past videos but i wanted to take a deep dive into it okay the question of expectations ruin experiences and whose fault that is sometimes the product was advertised to be like a freaking second coming and other times people just hype it up in their own heads to be something that important as a business marketing major aka the white girl major aka the major for guys who watched mad men once and were like this is my life now here i am gary there i am i think i know what i'm talking about here my business degree means i mean business i thought of this topic after two super extremely hyped things just came out back to back two things that were so hype there was no way the final product could meet expectations yes the game cyberpunk 2077 and the album whole lotta red by playboy cardi they hyped up cyberpunk for eight years and it ended up looking like this every anticipated product goes through the circle of height first this person or company was sent from god they have descended from heaven to give us this movie or book or a freaking album or game and then they don't deliver and it's like you deem it you demon child burn them at the stake and then another company or person replaces them just for them to go through the exact same thing i was excited about high school because of high school music that's why i'm still boycotting zac efron i didn't think the cardi album was as bad as everyone's been saying i actually think it's pretty good but is playboy cardi really the kind of artist that needs to hype something for two and a half years and why is the hype getting so high that this man of all people is being tasked to change hip-hop forever i don't think the album is bad but it might be cursed every time i play it my dog starts twitching look at him and i don't even have a dog so whose dog is this these things were so hyped that when they did not immediately hit the expectations it felt like they were dead on arrival when i was a kid i used to get really excited about everything because everything is amazing when you're a kid you could have sold me a movie where tim allen kills someone and takes over their identity and i would have made it up and they did and i did three times as a kid i didn't even mind the avatar movie yeah this one right here i didn't mind it i was like all right i'm just happy to be here that all changed because of this man you know most marketers they're just doing their job you can't really get mad at them but others straight up lie for the sake of hype peter molyneux i'm pretty sure this man single-handedly introduced me to disappointment if you don't know who this man is this dude literally became known for building hype based on impossible promises i don't know if you guys remember the xbox kinect the first showings of that thing were incredible you could scan a skateboard into the game you could talk to your girlfriend and put on a dress you could talk to this kid they were saying you could talk to this boy milo and that he knows you and recognizes you and he's like a real person science fiction writers filmmakers they haven't imagined what we're able to do today you okay actually i'm a bit nervous you nervous i don't believe it i don't think you understand how hyped i was for this when i was a kid i was like i don't have any friends i'll talk to my boy milo they were showing all these scientific uses for it and i'm like finally i can practice brain surgery with the right tools a hundred dollar add-on for my xbox and then the connect was basically only used for games like this looking back though i don't even know why i thought this was possible here we're seeing claire being recognized and the emotion in claire's voice being recognized and that emotion reflecting in milo's face you're literally just saying random things at this point there's no none of this is is is what do you think claire drew a picture on a piece of paper the piece of paper was held up to milo natal recognized the piece of paper scanned the piece of paper in milo looked at that piece of paper recognized the shape recognized the color you're telling me that happened in one millisecond you're telling me all that happened in literally one second she didn't have to hold it up to let it scan you just and it just appears in the game at the end of the day i think i'm more mad at my younger self for even believing this i don't even know why i really wanted it what if he realizes he's in a game and wants to get out what if he turns on me what if you scan in some crack can i introduce crack into this little british community we'll never know because it doesn't exist and yet it was advertised like it existed in 2009 this works today now i think it's just i can't not believe him like his accent is too soothing it's too it's too reliable sounding what designers and what this industry does when the car will change the landscape i am milo the destroyer i am milo destroyer when you're a kid these things are 10 times more hyped because they're your whole life i have nothing else to look forward to i have nothing else going on but as i grew older i realized how much hype ruins these things and i've learned to manage my expectations a little bit and try to even go in blind but it's still hard not to get excited about certain things okay like the announcement in this video if i don't manage expectations you guys are gonna be disappointed is it a giveaway where you all get free ps5s i don't know maybe probably not i feel like i don't even enjoy things on a first watch anymore like all my expectations have me stressed out in the theater i'm more concerned about it being what i've hyped it up to be instead of what it actually is game of thrones final season it was so hype that at a certain point you start thinking to yourself it can be bad literally it cannot be bad everything is lined up there's no way it can be bad i'm sitting down i'm waiting i'm like it's not gonna be bad it can't be bad like there's no way it can be bad it's impossible for this to be bad and then it's bad i remember sitting in the theater while black panther the lights were going off and i was like oh my goodness like what if this is bad thankfully it wasn't but that hype still ruined the movie for a lot of people because every time there's a good superhero movie all the critics have to say this is the next the dark knight i saw people saying that about logan and when i watched it the whole time i wasn't enjoying the movie i was just thinking this isn't as good as the dark knight if i just went into it i would have probably enjoyed it a lot more but they have to act like oh this is the greatest movie since sliced bread sliced bread the movie nothing's taught me that that brings me to word of mouth this is a different kind of hype there's hype before something comes out and then there's height after something comes out and everybody is talking about it i can't even imagine way back in the day when star wars first came out i feel like this happened with rick and morty when things get so overexposed you just grow to hate them without even really having an opinion on it the first time i heard happy by pharrell i was like dude this is the most positive song ever i love it i'll never get tired of it and now i'm positive that it's the worst song i've ever heard in my life why do songs get ruined for people or when people say here before tick tock ruins this song how does more people listening to a song ruin a song people hate when the artists they love the underground artist is suddenly getting so much attention in height because now they're not your little secret this actually ruins the music itself for people the fact that other people are also listening to the music you're listening to when something small and personal becomes huge and mainstream it pisses a lot of people off it makes it get overexposed and a lot of people just start hating it because of the hype how did i get tired of harry potter and i haven't seen a single one of those movies or read any of the books i watch it eventually but like hey y'all did the most for that series the things i end up loving the most are the ones i know nothing about things i enjoy the most are the ones i have zero expectations for going in completely blind and appreciating it for what it is instead of what i thought it could be or would be or wanted it to be that's why some of the most popular games last year weren't the ones with hundreds of millions of dollars put into them but the games that came out of nowhere and were just fun to play it's also interesting how hype works and that it makes you enjoy something more in the moment and then later you look back on it and you're like was i blind it just doesn't hit the same without that hype it's still interesting to me to see how people were walking out of the phantom menace star wars episode one and we're just loving it loving it and then the internet is just like no that movie is terrible i feel like a lot of people felt the same thing with the force awakens even though i think that's still a good movie basically almost everybody went into that movie and came out enjoying it but then now there's like a turnover where everyone says the movie is garbage blah blah blah but if you enjoyed something in that moment and realized later you don't like it at least it gave you that feeling already nothing can really take that moment where you enjoyed it away from you that's why i appreciate the force awakens because when i was in the theater it's one of the best theater experiences i've ever had first of all and we're braced off the millennium falcon if it just takes the stop everybody went crazy that feeling will be there forever it already gave me that moment so hype is a vicious cycle but it can be a good thing a little tickle when you're opening up that new game or just getting ready to watch movies it's like nothing else it's finally here and when it delivers i still remember the hype for to pimp a butterfly and how exciting it was seeing that album cover just posted for the first time and i was thinking like it's gonna be one of the best albums of all time and then it was it's great getting excited about new art or life false promises and monumental expectations can ruin it but getting excited over things is still a good thing i wouldn't say that you shouldn't be excited over anything the problem is when you think it's going to change your world but it ends up just being a good way to spend some down time but hey that's also nice what about you huh what's something you were super hyped about but it ended up ultimately disappointing you let me know in the comments down below now if you made it this far you're probably waiting on an announcement i didn't want to hype you up but uh drum roll works out baby that wasn't worth the hype was it no you should have managed your expectations okay what was i trying to teach you this whole video look at this setup bro i put all this together i didn't know how to do anything said live we're back
