I love her everyone welcome to your first hula challenge yeah Kalani I were talking about how summer is quickly approaching and we wanted to show you that hula yes can be very relaxing can be very beautiful very calming but can also be very vigorous and can definitely be used as a workout technique so here is your hula challenge we are gonna do some hula basics and I want you to get moving get shaking get sweating so at this time I am gonna encourage you if you haven't already go get a towel go get some bottle of water we're gonna do some stretches as we get into our hula basics and I want you to know that we are getting you ready hula bikini ready for this summer okay here's your challenge to keep up we are gonna go over some basic steps like Kaholo hello we're here cold but I'm gonna teach you a series and combinations on how you can use it as a workout technique going quickly over our basic Olelo up is Aluna hey don't forget any time that you hear in una I want you to be at your highest height that doesn't mean up on your toes that means your low and we'll go through our levels of course for me you luna is where the highest point that both your feet are still flat on the ground so Luna meaning up yaalo any time you hear me say you know low I want you to get as low as you can okay as low as you can for me my Alana position is right where my paru is hovering above the ground that's my allall oh my Aluna my point where my feet are so flat on the ground i haha is gonna be the next one i hot as the lowest you can go with the feet still flat on the ground without lifting the heels okay here I hug our body is made to move in different ways of course our feet cannot bend always flat against our leg so it's it's not it's impossible to keep bending lower and bending lower without the back getting at the wrong angle okay you're I ha a level is the level word your you can go with the feet still flat on the ground meaning the heels are still planted on the ground here alala or my allall oh here's a point where my leg my paru is just hovering above the ground if you don't have a pot whoo that's okay I would encourage any kind of puddle material that you can use it maybe is about about a foot off of the ground if not however low that you can go without the back bending this way you always want to keep the back straight and moving up and down this way okay so just a quick review Aluna this is your position Aluna you're gonna hear me say I ha ha which is gonna be your middle position your allall Oh as far as you can go if you can push it all the way down good for you but your ilallah is gonna be the lowest that you can handle you luna up Elan low down amor going forward hey emu or going forward you hope it going back Arco to the right Hema to the left here for those of you that haven't had a chance to learn some basics go and visit some of our basics that we have in our previous videos here on our youtube channel and then come back and if not if you want to just get right into it that's totally fine and let's have a great workout before we begin I do want to let you know if you if it's done properly you will be so or in the next couple of days so previous who prevent any kind of injury I always encourage dancers or anyone who partakes in any kind of exercise activities to stretch and stretch a lot okay and a lot of our emphasis is on our legs when we dance hula um a lot of is in your core always keeping the shoulders down yeah not pushing this we're just keeping the shoulders down and lifting the chest this way when you lift the chest up here you actually want to use your core to be squeezing in here anytime your legs get tired a quick trick to keep going anytime your legs start to get tired squeeze the core it actually we programs the brain to focus on another area so that gives it your legs a chance to kind of relax okay one more time everybody huh no take a deep breath huh no means to breathe and exhale okay again always remember the shoulders down the chest up chin up because you are proud to be a hula oloppor hula dancer okay as we do different hand motions I will show you again keeping the shoulders down elbows are always up that's the best part because then you get to build all the muscle in here hardly ever do you see dancers from hula dancers with their arms down or relax the elbows are always up and the posture is always straight okay here we go are you ready I'm not going to tell you how many minutes this is a challenge okay you just keep going and we'll see how far you get in the we'll see how far I get even all right here we go remember you want to keep your feet as flat as possible you're at your I hop up position now pushing the hips back and forth now you don't want to be doing this okay keeping the shoulders still separating the upper body from the lower body hey well we like to call it dancing isolation you want to isolate the upper body from the lower body so you're pushing the hips you're squeezing each side of your abs keeping the feet down yeah a few more push that hip as far as you can here without moving the upper body and not lifting up the feet on the side so the feet looks like this you're still moving the hips the feet are still flat it's very easy to get like this it's very easy on the legs and it's easy to push the hips and the heels aren't going up and down which is fine too but this is a challenge your challenge is to keep the feet down and isolating the waist so that you're using more of the poor [Applause] just me too I'm gonna be sweating right alongside you again think of that Hawaii hula bikini body this summer and I try allall of Aluna breathe every time you Elan low exhale okay agree the body has to constantly have oxygen the muscles hips side to side using that core to push the hips side to side push on the heels the heels will help you to push up on your hips [Applause] good let's try our whole homo for steps huggy new a whole a lot we're gonna go right after this to do some stretches some common stretches that we use to make sure you stretch out the legs keep a course relax keep the shoulders relaxed hi hey you uh sit down Carlos ah Haley my good faith has come any so this whole pas you want to keep your feet just on the outsides of your shoulders if you like me Mahalo ke Akua Mahalo kupuna Mahalo body for working so hard always do you think hula is always a gift if you can dance it as oh as a gift yeah there's so many people who would love to dance but can't so for me this is hard like to relax after basics there's no real reason here I just want you to experience something fun yeah here we're gonna stretch it out to the right foot okay turn the right foot out left foot is forward hope it up as you can and reach too big to the ground what you want to do is want to stretch all in here wait hairs and constantly moving back and forth your legs gonna be quite tight front inside and the hamstrings so make sure you stretch those up now you can lean forward put your stretch in here if you shift the weight back on to the back leg you'll have a chance to stretch all in here as I'm doing slings good hey hey hey Lua and Carlos hey huh any my girl walk it over to the other side making sure that this foot is the right foot is facing forward left foot turning out shifting the weight on to the baton to your right leg so that you can stretch the insides of the hamstrings breathe hey Kai hey Anu ah hey Carlos haha early mugger walk it back to the front slowly bring the feet together if you can press your hands up against the ground do so to shush it back to the legs shake the legs back and forth back and forth you want to stretch the whole lower back hey from here yep I'm gonna be like this grab your arms keeping the leg straight yeah keep the leg straight stretch it out relax the body good now grab the arms and just rock back and forth hey this actually stretches out the lower back and that's what I love about hula of course I love the culture side of it and I love everything about how they eat has we being Hawaii people we love everything about Hawaii so actually being able to use hula as a vessel to forget all your problems in hula there's no problems yeah when you had a chance to dance and you feel good about yourself when you had a chance to work out you definitely are a happier person that's where we're happy all the time right we use who lies our way to spiritually cleanse emotionally cleanse and I hope that you're able to use this chance for yourself to sweat up everything that you do not want in your body everything you don't want in your life use this as a tool as a something to just help you feel good about yourself and I can't wait to see you guys on our
