everybody hope you're well welcome back to my channel welcome back to a brand new video i am back today with a continuation of the epic loft declutter so in case you're new to my channel or you don't know what i'm up to i'm in the process of renovating our loft and so as part of that i need to get it all empty so that work can begin and there's a lot of stuff up there there's a lot of things that are built up there from over the years so there's a lot of things to get rid of and also because we have been in lockdown there's also some things from around the rest of the home that i have attempted to declutter but i've ended up in the loft as a temporary measure before i can donate them to the charity shop so it's looking quite full been up there this morning and had a quick assess and yeah we've got a lot of work to do so that's what this video will be all about i'll be continuing to declutter and hopefully it will inspire you to maybe declutter that loft of yours or your garage or your shed or that room that's full of things and maybe help you along the way with that as well or you might just enjoy watching the process as part of the loft renovation series so that series is linked in the description box if you want to find out all about the loft renovation process i'll be sharing all of that with you so if you're thinking about maybe doing your loft as well then hopefully these videos will be useful to you as well so that will be linked in the description box down below and don't forget to click subscribe if you are new here for brand new videos every week and give this one a thumbs up if you enjoy the continuation of the epic loft declutter so the reason why i am picking it up today is because one of the local charity shops has actually opened its doors to a donation so you can't actually go in there but they put a big cage in the doorway where you can go there and throw bags into it they've turned into a donation center as we are approaching the dates when the shops will be reopening in april so i'm taking full advantage of it and going to try to get rid of as much as i can and take it to the charity shop today so yeah that is the plan i've got myself some lunch i've actually picked up a coffee from nero they're free today as it's tuesday if you're with um o2 on your phone you can download the priority moments app and pick yourself up for free coffee on tuesdays or wednesdays which is always a lovely treat and also pick myself up a cheese and cold slaw baguette because we can't be decluttering when we're hungry now can we because that would be a disaster so i'm gonna have some lunch and i'm gonna crack on well that was a delicious lunch but now you join me in the loft so as you can see behind me there we have all of the christmas decorations and then we have quite a lot of space where there isn't too much stuff we've got a few bits here um bits of old wood and that sort of thing and then behind me here is where the huge pile to go to be donated and to be got rid of um is existing not all of this is going but um yeah the majority of it is but what i think i'm going to do with this shelving unit is actually dismantle it and rebuild it in the living room as a temporary measure and the shelves actually are quite good they're quite nice solid planks of woods they might even be good to do a little up-cycle project or even utilize them in the loft space once it's all done and yeah there's a couple of bits of furniture in the far corner i don't know if you can see them but there's some chairs which i really love so i'm not sure about getting rid of those or not the thing is i don't want to be bringing in loads of new furniture into the house we've got furniture already i do want to kind of reuse as much as i can in the loft space but we'll see um i might obviously introduce new pieces as well but i don't know i've got some nice bits i thought might be quite nice up here too so i might hang on to them and it's just a case of finding a home for them while the renovations are happening the plan is now to try and get a few of these big bags of stuff down to go to the charity shop so that's the next step so from here you can get a better idea there is a slight system in place as you can see that suitcase there says charity on it and that's because it is absolutely jam-packed with stuff to go to the charity shop and the shelves are looking a lot thinner we have um a chap up there on this hollister bag you get a sense of how old some of the stuff is here i haven't worn hollister for a little while lots of bits to sort through i'm going to start shifting some of this down now and this side is a lot clearer and yeah this is where we've got all the christmas decorations and those were the bits of furniture that i was talking about little unit there you may remember um that that's now not being used but again will that be good for when i have the office up here i'm not sure and we shall see but i do love these old school chairs so yeah i think they may stay i've also got some unit doors up here so i rescued these and ended up just using them kind of as floorboards but these are big kind of um built-in wardrobe doors i think made of mdf i'll inspect those before they go anywhere because again i've got a little upcycle in mind but i'm not sure um i'm not sure whether they'll be useful or not [Music] i found the easter box so i'll be taking this down as well because i've got a decorate with me for easter coming soon it might already be up if it's up i'll link in the description box for you [Music] okay let's show you the space that that has cleared that looks better we can actually see the floor now there's a few bits here and i have another shelf again would this be nice in the loft do we think when it's all done i'm not sure i'll have a think we have a folding table that's quite handy for wallpapering and stuff and also for decorating so i'll hang on to that then we have suitcases um we've got a couple of smaller ones here i'll see if i can um give those away i think if not i'll donate those too and this is a decking oil as well so i might use that up or um pop that on free cycle or something similar and i've just found this life-sized cut out of kate mccabe which i will be giving to kate and next time i'm able to see her it's very handy look it folds up like that um so yeah i will um put that to one side to give to kate oh look at this light and when i see her next time i've got my other mate over there oh my goodness i am sweating okay so what we've got now is a few bags that i have already backed up for the charity shop but what i'm going to do is just transfer some of the stuff from these into bin bags so that when i can get there i just give them the bin bags and hang on to these to refill them because yeah these bags are handy and of course you could just donate the whole bag to the chat shop and let them have that but i'm in need of these at the moment and these are ones i picked up from poundland occasionally they do come into store if you see them snap them up because they're really good value big ones like this you can also get a similar style bag from ikea which is very handy for these sort of jobs as well but yeah with the big handles you can literally walk all of this down to the charity shop and it's not too bad at all so yeah i'm just going to put them into bin bags though um just to make it easier once i get there and if you want to be helpful to them you can always roll them up just saves them having a bag full of really tasty looking clothes they're probably gonna open this bag then and think this stuff looks decent all this stuff is in good nick so yeah it's nice to kind of take care of things when you donate them and give them to the charity shop in some kind of order [Music] [Music] and then what i do is squeeze all of the air out of the bags as well just to really compact them because these are going to be going into that cage that i was telling you about and it'd be nice to not overfill it so that other people are able to donate as well so that's all nice and compact now ready to go this [Music] this is now the situation so all bagged up good to go you can go back into these i'd empty the suitcase and packed it all up and i can put all of these back in ready to take down to the charity shop this is going to be fun not but it will be worth it so yeah i'm trying to show you all the options no excuses you haven't got a car this is what you can do get rid of it or take a trolley or just take a bag at a time take one every day until you get rid of everything squeeze all these in and yeah time to donate [Music] make the sun come out let us lose [Music] ourselves [Music] okay that feels good i've got rid of that lot my arms are aching that's for sure it's a heavy bag but um yeah glad to have got rid of the first big lot so it might be worth checking on your local charity shops to see if any of them do have the donation centers open and also often in supermarket car parks you will find the clothing banks as well i know that in big tesco's they have salvation army ones and as well you can also look to send some of your clothes away to donate you know that i've been using the thrift plus app which has worked out really well for me i've earned some vouchers back that i can spend at john lewis or on thrift plus and also been able to donate a good chunk of money to the charity of my choice as well so that one's fab you can also opt to donate the full amount to charity too so that's another option if you're looking to have some bags of things collected and i know other charities also do collections as well so i'll try and link any information in the description box that i can that might be useful to you so do feel free to have a look down there too okay i am back home i've just necked a load of water because i'm absolutely parched and what i'm going to do next i think is clear a bit of space here in the living room and then i'm going to go up and dismantle those shelves and put them up down here i think because i feel like that will be quite a big chunk of stuff then down at least and then also i can refill the suitcase and the big bag again ready for another trip to donate a load more stuff tomorrow there's still some bits and pieces lying around they don't take old christmas trees or electronics i have been informed but they take pretty much everything else so yeah bric-a-brac and clothes can be out of here which is good as well and i also spied one of the clothing banks being emptied on my way home so if you do spot a local one being emptied as well if you've got a charity shop where it's just got the one clothing bank outside make a mental note of it and be ready to pop down there and put your bag in because they do fill up incredibly quickly the ones right here have been pretty much constantly stuffed to the brim so yeah if you do see one being emptied act fast have those bags ready to go i guess if you have a car it might be a good idea to keep the bags in the boot as well so they are just ready to uh donate when you do get that opportunity but yeah i'm gonna have a bit more water finish that coffee that's all got on the go it's actually managed to stay fairly warm in that cup and yeah continue i'm flagging already i'll tell you but we must crack on [Music] so i've just moved the drinks trolley over into this corner and given everything a quick [Music] dust [Music] okay so what i've done is moved the table i'm just going to whiz around with the hoover and now we've created some space that i can then build the shelves up into i'm going to put them just into that corner there hopefully they'll look okay there as a temporary set up so it's time to go back up into the loft and dismantle the shelves and i've just dug out from the kitchen drawer some of those ikea what do you call them ikea tools to dismantle it with so hopefully one of these will fit we have got quite the assortment here so yeah i hope one of them is the right one okay time to get this bad boy all um dismantled downstairs and then put back up again and also take a look it is absolutely filthy so i'll need to brush it off before i do take it down as well yuck right let's get started [Music] right i'm gonna pop my mask on because things are about to get quite dusty [Music] [Music] ah oh crikey i am sweating okay this is nice though this is exciting we have a space look at this that's better we now have quite a lot of space a few bits to sort out here still this side not much has happened some of these bits i will be able to sort out better once i've got the shelves built because i'll be able to um systemize anything that i'm keeping and then over here looks like a lot but the bulk there is christmas decorations furnishings suitcases so yeah a lot of this will be staying but i just need to figure out where to store that while works are being done but yeah i feel like we really are starting to see a little bit of progress taking those shelves apart was not fun at all they kept springing in my face where the metal bits were kind of suspended and i kept dropping the twisty thing to undo the bolts with um which was annoying because the loft floor isn't exactly the easiest place to find something when you do drop it so i was digging around in the horrible um insulation stuff so that wasn't fun but there we are i managed to find it and get it done so time to head back down and get it built [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] okay i have managed to squeeze it in and manage to fit the table back in now this is by no means ideal because obviously it's pretty much going under the table but it is kind of tucked out the way so this will mean that i can stack up boxes onto here and try and get some system in place just while the renovations are happening this is very temporary then i probably will get rid of these shelves although the actual shelves themselves aren't too bad so these might well be used as a little upcycle they probably make some good um shelving inside a cupboard or that sort of thing depending on what storage ends up being built in the loft so yeah we'll see but for now we have a bit of a solution and we can still eat at the table at least so yeah definitely better than having loads of mess and things piled up everywhere i can use the shelves to kind of uh make things a bit tidier i've just put a couple of plastic crates onto here as well as you can see the lights starting to go because it's turning to evening time now but this means yeah with these crates in place it just means that i can sort things out if i'm selling anything i'll be able to easily access it and if i'm passing anything on that sort of thing i also have the two important files there which is anything important to do with the loft in terms of paperwork etc and this basket here is just full of things i just grab on a day-to-day basis that was elsewhere in the living room but i might as well just shove that on there for the time being and then down here we have some big photo albums i'm keeping might actually change the covers on these i was thinking about maybe switching this up i feel like this is a little bit dated maybe and i thought i could just get some sticky back um like vinyl or plastic and cover those just to make them look a bit more appealing i'm going to organize some photographs into those made myself a coffee so we have a quick sit in the charity shop starbucks mug and yeah a few more bits to go through i just discovered this which i will be donating tomorrow and this is a lampshade that i used to love it came from habitat it's kind of cool it is covered in little buttons but i had this years ago and yeah it's just no longer um something that i really particularly like so i'll be donating that but i think that would look really nice in somebody's home it's quite unusual isn't it so yeah it makes quite nice light as well where all the little holes and buttons are but if you're one of those people that has the fear of buttons you wouldn't like this up at all would you but yeah that's going to go it's quite bulky of course as well isn't it so it's good to get rid of bulky things that you don't need anymore i hope they'll be able to sell that for a decent price and then a few more bits of bric-a-brac and random stuff i'm just using um some old hotel laundry bags to gather up we're going to stuff this full and then that can also go tomorrow i'm pretty much there in terms of all the donations which is for that see what's in this shoe box oh my goodness okay we've got brickabrack in here excess glasses so if you're donating glasses be sure to make sure that you wrap them up really well of course because we want to make sure our donations arrive safely i've got some glasses wrapped up in tissue paper in this box that i've already done and a few other bits that could potentially break so those are all in here and i can donate them in the shoe box that means they're not going to rattle around in the bag and potentially get broken as well and i'll probably mark on here fragile i've actually got some fragile tape so i'll probably take that up just so that they know that there is things in here that could get broken and yeah that lock can go tomorrow so i'm just gonna get all this bagged up and ready to go tomorrow and i'll take the boxes out and put those in the recycling as well and clear a bit of space with those and thanks to my last sort out i now know where all the tape is so i've got some fragile tape here i'm going to take this box up with so that they know at the charity shop that things in here are fragile let's see if i can find the end hello it is the next day i have just been doing some filming so i put the uh declutter on pause this morning but now i'm gonna get back to it so yesterday i put the remaining items into the suitcase which is ready to go so i'm going to take that down to the charity shop this morning and then i'm going to go back up to the loft later on and bring down a few more pieces that i'm either going to get rid of or be keeping and so anything i'm gonna be keeping that may well end up be going back up into the loft i'm gonna organize onto the shelf in here if that makes sense there is some kind of system going on here i promise you it might seem a bit shambolic but um yes i've got a few interesting bits that i want to show you actually some treasure that was from the loft when we first moved in here that kind of just was left up there so yeah i'll share those bits with you when we get back from the charity shop [Music] okay i'm back so i'm going to select a few boxes from up here to take down to go through with you now i've got a few bits in this area that need to be sorted okay i bought down a few boxes the first box here is actually full of editions of the face magazine which is a magazine that is no longer in print but these actually date back to the 80s so i've got one here from 1989 for the bargain price of one pound 50 and yeah we've got loads of editions so somebody who used to live here was a fan of this magazine and kept them all in the loft and then they were just up there in a box basically so yeah really cool a little bit of history i've really enjoyed looking through some of these and looking particularly at the fashion spreads as well because they've got some really creative photo shoots in this magazine and yeah just really interesting so what i'm thinking of maybe doing is actually hanging on to these and then once the loft is done it might make just quite a nice little area just have a little stack of these and just to know they always were from the loft i thought they might be quite cool so either a section of a shelf or maybe just like a little coffee table edition and yeah just nice to put them back where they came from and something really nice to flick through they're really interesting let me show you some of the fashion in some of these they've got some really cool uh photo shoots look at this interesting but yeah it's cool to look at all the different adverts and stuff and also to see um what gadgets as well was all the rage then so we'd have this coffee machine from 1988 you still see those very similar now don't you and yeah various bits and pieces look at these alarm clocks how about that so cool i love the um fonts that they use as well really interesting to flick through these and then things like the clark's desert boot hasn't really changed a bit has it it's an absolute classic so yeah um i'll enjoy speaking through these so that's something that i thought would be quite cool to maybe reintroduce into the space and then also these signs as well so these were up there and they're just these pin number plates we have a new york one and a florida one and again i'm not sure whether these will look good or not i thought i'd hang on to them because they might look quite cool i like the idea of having the loft although obviously it's going to be all brand new i like the idea of trying to make it look like it's always been part of the house as well so if i can introduce a little bit of reclaimed here and there i'm quite keen to do that or at least yeah just to make it feel like part of the home which is a victorian home i suppose um if there's any way that i can achieve that i know it's difficult with like a brand new renovation but yeah be nice to make sure it's got a bit of character up there i'm toying with the idea of i'm seeing if the builders can leave a bit of the brickwork exposed maybe that could be quite cool couldn't it and i've got a whole box of theater programs so i always used to buy these when i used to go and see a show um so we've got our house here we've got the producers chicago i've got a whole box full of them and i'm not sure what to do with those um because they're not something that i ever look at so i may well just get rid maybe pop them on ebay or something like that and sell them as a job lots um but yeah that that box isn't too big it's not taking up loads of room but equally it's just something that i'm never gonna look at so they may well be on their way to a new home i'm gonna get the magazines nicely organized into this box and put that on the shelf and i'm gonna clean these up as well i'll be able to make a decision as to kind of whether to reintroduce these once the loft is done so yeah i think i'm going to wrap up the vlog here but i will be keeping you posted as things do develop with the loft space all that really remains up there now is some decking oil there's also a couple more boxes i need to go through all of the christmas decorations which just need to come down in one foul swoop just before the work starts and a couple of chairs and a small chest of drawers i'll probably be keeping for the time being so yeah not too much at all i feel like we're pretty much there with the loft declutter and sort out and then all of this will either be going back to the loft or into a new home around the home or it'll be out of here as well and then maybe use some of this wood as an upcycle project or again that will be going too so it's all a bit temporary at the moment but that is what has to happen in these sort of projects i guess um so yeah if you're doing anything similar let me know how you're getting on in the comments down below and oh sorry i've got a lot of dust like i need to have a drink of water i think there's some dust coming off this you know you can feel it right at the back of your throat but anyway yeah let me know if you're doing anything similar and if you are how you're getting on with it let me know if you've been doing any decluttering as well and how that's going to and yeah i hope you enjoyed the video if you did give it a thumbs up and don't forget to click subscribe to follow my journey of the loft renovation and also for new videos every single week and don't forget you can always catch me over on instagram it's mr
