Huge Birthday Book Haul!! // (I blame booktube...)

hi youtube my name is jasmine welcome or welcome back to my channel [Music] hello friends long time no see how are you doing it's nice to talk haven't seen each other in a while but i do have a new video so that's fun um this is embarrassing anyway today i have a book haul for you guys i have never actually done a book haul on this channel so this should be new but fun and exciting so i recently had a birthday my birthday was on march 3rd and before and after and on my birthday i just um acquired a lot of books you know honestly i think i only bought like maybe five books in 2020. so it's been a while and i went a little crazy and i was also sent some books around my birthday so it's just a lot let's just get straight into it okay so i have like three stacks i'm just gonna pull in order of the stack and the first book that we have here is a song of wraiths and ruin by roseanne brown so this book i have been talking about for forever and it's about time i read the dang thing this book follows two main characters they are both secretly trying to kill each other but they don't know that they're trying to kill each other they just each know they're like i'm killing you and they're like i'm trying to kill you um if that made any sense and then i'm pretty sure there's like a little bit of a conflict when they start to have feelings for each other i think that's what this book is about i obviously have not read it so i don't quite know okay yeah okay i just took a peek at the synopsis i'm pretty sure there is like a competition that happens in this book and the male main character is like trying to go through this competition and his end goal is to kill the princess because he's trying to get his sister back who was kind of kidnapped and that is like the payment that he needs to get her back and then she is trying to kill him for some unknown reason that i will find out when i read the book so um yeah yeah yeah yeah that's what this is about super excited and i'm so happy to finally have my hands on it the next book needs no explanation it is concrete rose by angie thomas this book is obviously the prequel to the hate you give we're following maverick star's dad i think this is right after he had star is that not star seven after he had seven this is following him his origin story and i'm super excited to read this because come on we all like know and have read hate to give and i'm excited to read something set in the same like universe and get the origin story to starstad because i just remember star's parents being so iconic and we are going to read about you know the beginning so i'm excited to read this and i hope i like it fingers crossed next up we have a sequel to a series that i have talked about quite a few times on my channel it is this vicious cure by emily suvada this is the third and final installment in the this mortal coil series i'm honestly terrified um i have said many many times that i love this mortal coil it is a sci-fi series that takes place in a time where most people live underground because there is this virus that is killing people off um i should not have said that so cavalier anyway um there's this virus thing and the main character actually has to live above ground because she has this genetic thing and she needs like this certain code to be able to live and if she went underground they would have to delete that code so long story short the main character lives above ground and she's a coder and the whole entire premise of the first story is that the main character is trying to unlock this vaccine that her father made to solve the issue of this virus killing off everyone because it is like an international thing i'm very excited to see how this is going to end how it's going to wrap if it's going to come full circle i don't know what's going to happen but i'm scared and that's probably why i haven't read it yet regardless you already know what i'm gonna say i'm very excited and i cannot wait to read this book i just i'm excited next up we have these violet delights by chloe gong so this book is a dark academia novel set in like i don't even know it's set in 1926 this is actually a romeo and juliet retelling or at least inspired by romeo and juliet i think it's a retelling the title of the novel is actually a nod to the line these violin delights have violet ends from romeo and juliet so i'm actually really intrigued because i do actually like romeo and juliet um i've read the play like twice and i've seen it and as like not smart as romeo and juliet are the play is actually really intriguing to me and i'm really interested to see a 1926 retelling of it and it also takes place in shanghai which i'm really excited about i'm here for it you know i love dark academia i'm pretty sure this is dark academia i'm here for it okay the next book is one of the good ones i have seen this book on booktube here and there but i haven't heard too much about it so i don't quite know what it's about i know it's like really sad because i mean the little quote on the bottom says shouldn't being human be enough and yeah let's just oh it's gonna be sad okay let's read the synopsis it says when teen social activist and history buff kesley smith is killed under mysterious circumstances after attending a social justice rally her devastated sister happy and their family are left reeling in the aftermath as kenzie becomes another immortalized victim in the fight against police brutality happy begins to question the idealized way her sister is remembered perfect angelic one of the good ones oh there's the title even as the praise rings wrong in her mind why are only certain people deemed worthy of being missed happy and her sister jenny embark on a journey to honor kezzy in their own way using an heirloom copy of the negro motorist green book as their guide but there's a twist in cassie story that no one could have ever expected one that will change everything all over again so this sounds like it's gonna be very deep and it's really short so i don't know what's gonna happen in a book of this size but i know that i want to read it also just look at the cover like come on wow yeah i know i want to read this hopefully i can read it soon so next up we have yet another book that needs no explanation chain of iron it's j divine by cassandra clare um this is the sequel to chain of gold period that's all i'm gonna say i got chain of iron also i read it the vlog is up i think link up there okay with these next few books i actually went somewhere where there was a half price books i went a little bit crazy but i mean it's not that crazy it's like a reasonable amount anyway um one of the books i got was the secret garden honestly not a fan of the cover not the prettiest thing but there is very large font and i love that in a book i do have a video that i plan on reading this for so i'm excited and i just wanted to buy it because it was like three bucks so yeah secret garden next we have the lion game and into the woods by ruth ware these are both thrillers that i'm super excited for i don't think i've ever read anything by ruth ware but i'm very intrigued i have only started getting into thrillers but i am slowly but surely becoming a little obsessed i kind of love it and i need to read more of them so when i saw these in the bookstore i had to buy them i think i'm going to read this one first and then this one just because this is shorter but i'm equally as excited for both of them i don't know what either of them are about obviously this one is going to have something to do with something crazy happening in the woods and this one has a lying game so um that's all i can tell you about these but just know i'm very excited for these because i just want more thrillers in my life and i need to read more of them so there we go okay this next book has a sticker on it so please do not mind the sticker i can't get it off it is famous in love i don't know how to pronounce the author's last name but you see it there i am very excited to read this book because i loved the show famous in love okay it was like very trashy teen show but like i was here for it and i loved it and it got cancelled after two seasons so i want to know what happens next because there's a hole in my life that i need to fill by figuring out what the heck happened to these characters and i know this show took a lot of creative liberties and they changed a lot but hopefully i can just get an idea of what happens with these characters because i genuinely did love the show and when it got canceled it broke my heart so when i saw this book i knew that i had to buy it and i just need to finish it okay if you don't know i guess i should have explained what it's about the main character don't even know her name anymore paige paige townsend she is in college and then she auditions for the show and she ends up getting the role so she's thrown into this world of hollywood and she's like navigating being famous and it's just it's just such a fun time and there's just there's a bunch of drama it's like it is like really trashy but like come on i live for this stuff so i'm super excited to read this and i'm just here for it so i got the first book and i anticipate picking up the sequels like very shortly after because once again i need to know what happens with these characters so famous in love next up we have a another thriller or mystery i don't know what this book is classified as but it's something that'll freak me out a little bit neverworld wake by marisha pessl i don't know if i said that correctly i hope i did if i didn't i'm sorry yeah this book it was like really popular on booktube when it came out i remember kayla from books and la la talking about this and i think she gave it five stars so i obviously trust her and i'm super excited to read this the back of the book says i was going to be stuck here forever here in the netherworld where i'd never grow old never have a family never fall in love i was a ticking clock in a timeless world i don't know what this book is about i don't know what i just read means but i'm here for it um the actual synopsis don't even want to read it you know what i'll just go into it not knowing much all i know is that just this little this little snippet thing i am intrigued the next book that i got was also sparked from an obsession with the tv show it's the first book in the gospel girl series i kind of just want to read it and see like what happens because i'm intrigued this should be really fun let me know if you want to see a vlog of me reading this book because i'm here for it i'm excited gossip girl one of my favorite guilty pleasures same with famous and love it's like an elite group of kind of bratty and titled people but it's super fun to read about and i love these stories so i'm super excited to read the book because once again huge fan of the show so there we go i also did get bridgerton the first book in the burgerton series while i was there you can see from the sticker i got it from target so um i did not anticipate buying any more books that day i just saw it and i was like britain we're doing this so i got the book i want to read the book i want to compare books to shows okay it's i i just have fun doing that so i will be doing that okay okay next up the gilded ones i have also talked about this a lot on my channel don't know entirely what this book is about but i know it has similar vibes to red queen because there are different colors of blood and depending on what color blood you have defines like your status in the world kind of not really main character she ends up having gold blood which is supposed to be really bad in this society you're technically supposed to die if you have gold blood but someone comes up to the main character and they're like you can come with us you can be a part of this elite group of warriors who are the only people who can save our kingdom by the way and they all have gold blood just like the main character i think the standard and what you're supposed to have is red blood but like why don't you want to be special you know so the main character's special and she joins this group of female warriors which we stan and like i said they're the only ones who can defeat this threat to the kingdom like hello of course this sounds amazing this is obviously a fantasy and i have been in a bit of a fantasy mood lately like with the thrillers fantasy too the back says are we girls or are we demons are we going to die or are we going to survive and that is a question that i would like to see answered so i will be reading this thank you i'm sorry i've been watching way too much dick talk let's move on to the next book okay this book was sent to me it is called dream country this is actually an arc but the book is coming out this month the back of this one says the dysfunctional triplet gods of sleep dreams and nightmares are kept separate by the deadly gates of horn and ivory only one fact keeps them tightly bound each of them is a suspect in their mother's murder their knife-edge feud worsens when a mortal enters the world with astounding abilities that threaten to change the game for them all so that is what this is about i'm super excited also for an arc this is gorgeous this is not the actual cover i will include that on the screen but um yeah i got an arc of this super excited to check it out it sounds amazing and i just want to support this author so yeah next up another one i've talked about so many times so i won't be giving a synopsis it is cinderella is dead this obviously takes inspiration from the story of cinderella you guessed it i'm here for it and i can't wait to read it so i'm so happy i finally have a copy next up if you know me this should come as no surprise why i am smiling so hard loveless by alice osman i don't know too much about it it's a coming-of-age story and the main character georgia is figuring out her sexuality and trying to navigate her time in college haven't read it yet but i i already kind of love it so yeah we got loveless okay so this next book actually had a little bit of controversy before it even came out and it is smash it by francina simone so i have been wanting to read this book since i heard about it since i heard francina talk about it she is a fellow booktuber on youtube obviously and she wrote this book in the novel it's like a why a contemporary romance and they're putting on the play othello and i just really wanted to support francina because she's a fellow black booktuber and i just wanted to buy her book this book actually had some um tension when it first came out there was one line that was posted on twitter and it was kind of cancelled before it came out but i want to read it for myself to get the full context of the book because it was just like one line and i think it was taken out of context but i don't know i haven't read the book so i want to read the book and give it its chance and then figure out for myself like if it's problematic or not so that's what i'll be doing also i love theater and they're putting on a play so like come on i'm excited next up once again no explanation necessary a court of silver flames the only thing i will be saying about this book is that i am terrified because it's so long this is scary okay next okay this book was also sent to me this was sent to me thank you so much penguin teen it is fireborn by rosaria munda once again if i pronounce that wrong i am so sorry they sent me this book because it got a new cover which i think is absolutely gorgeous and i just wanted to have a copy because it's so pretty i don't even own the first cover so like i wanted this to be the cover that i owned and it's so pretty this is a why a fantasy let's read the synopsis because i don't actually know too much about it it says annie and lee were only children when the revolution changed their world giving everyone a chance to test into the governing class of dragon riders now they are both rising stars in a new regime even though annie's low-born family was executed by dragonfire well that's scary while lee was born to the very aristocrats who used to rule the city oh oh wow i can feel some tension a childhood at the same orphanage forced their friendship and seven years of training have made them rivals see i knew there was tension their rivals rivals for the top position in the dragon riding fleet but everything changes when survivors from the old regime surfaced bent on reclaiming their city with the war on the horizon lee must choose to kill the only leap pause whoa lee must choose to kill the only family he has left or to portray everything he's come to believe in we're gonna stop there i was not expecting that term to be made but now i'm like really wanting to read this book this sounds very intriguing it seems like we've got a lot of drama that's gonna happen and these characters are gonna have to make some hard choices so i am excited to see what choices they make once again i've been here for fantasies lately so i'm i just want to read this okay okay and last but not least we have wings of ebony so this book i also don't quite know what it's about but i know that it's a fantasy i think it's an urban fantasy i like read the synopsis and i was a little confused but i'm pretty sure the main character is from texas and then someone unfortunately dies and she has to move but she ends up being moved to like this magical island or place somewhere magical right okay okay it says her father takes her to a secret country it's a whole country of gods who wield a powerful magic and then i think it says she goes like back and forth between texas maybe yeah and then she has to deal with stuff back home i don't know exactly what's gonna happen but i am intrigued just by what i do know from it so yeah i've also like seen some pretty good reviews on booktube so i think i will enjoy it um but yeah actually i forgot a book one second i am so sorry i almost forgot this book i was also sent all the things we never knew the author herself sent me this book so i really really really appreciate it i think it came out in 2020 so um i'm happy that i have a copy of it now it's a why a contemporary romance and i think both of the main characters are basketball players i think the male main character is about to be recruited question mark and the female main character maybe is about to like give up basketball i don't know yeah it says she secretly wants to quit basketball so i don't know what's gonna happen exactly but i do know that i like my contemporary romances so i have no doubt i will also enjoy this one okay so that was the last book i promised that was my huge huge haul i did not get all these for my birthday it was literally a period of a month because i'm filming this in april but regardless i'm so grateful and so happy and excited to read each and every one of these books that takes us to the end of this video thank you so much for watching and
