easy does it that's from easy does it and um this one's called art deco and we started with this one because it mimics the look of art deco and some of the information that i'm going to hold this side so we can see hannah as well what was your main takeaway from studying about the art deco well it has a lot to do with movement and geometrics and it was really when we were curious yeah it was sort of like when they started mechanic mechanically producing the art look so we were really moving into that age where we were using machines to make all kinds of things now a lot of you probably like me you've probably seen things like this in floor tile and there was really a big movement for doing floor tile back then with the really cool patterns to it so this one i called art deco and let me show you the fabrics for that we do have the fabric for that particular kit and when you're working with my patterns you're going to have three pieces of fabric and we always encourage you to put the number one fabric and the biggest print is the number one fabric and it goes in the largest position on your quilt or what we would refer to as the focal fabric then you have two pieces of fabric left over and of those two pieces you're going to pick out the lightest for your number two and the darkest for your number three and once you put those three fabrics into those three positions while you're planning your quilt it'll come out all nice just the way we intended it now this is the kit number 80209 it's called cashmere blue blooms it's art deco from the easy desert book now this is the easy does it book and here is the pattern in this spot now it does not have an individual pattern that you can purchase or get free with your quilt so if you want to take an alternative pattern it would be the pretty please pattern so you'll get one free pattern with each of the quilts or if you buy three kits then you can take one book and get eight patterns you can take one book free when you skip the little pattern and choose a book for your freebie it's called the book deal oh my part's way down here let me move it down all right the next quilt that we have this one's called urban chic and we no longer have this particular fabric but we do have some other fabric that we want to show you and let's get that one up on the table top too because i have some pieces and parts to share with you on this particular one now you're going to have to help me out on this hannah because i think this one is also supposed to be like art deco correct yeah okay so this is a kind of an art deco it actually looks a little like the the roaring twenties doesn't it i can just see those flappers going not that i lived back then okay so this would be your number one fabric with the cool little swirl and the polka dot it's got a little bit of a gold um tinge to that as well and then we chose the the beige is our number two and as our number three is the gray now what we did is we we actually had um some pieces pulled together so you could kind of envision this particular pattern made up with this fabric okay i've talked to you before about how i can strip piece you sew two long pieces of fabric together and then you cut it into units and so this is an example of a unit and as you can see here this was cut out of a long strip and a long strip that were sewn together and then you simply turn one of those units around and you get that four patch then for our next block we did the same thing where we cut units out of um the long strips we created a block that had a center piece and then we sewed strips on there cut that unit out here we sewed this unit on this side and we flipped this one around and sewed it right up there and now let's crop that excuse me i got a little frog in my throat here we'll crop this so you can see how nice that looks i think i need to take a little sip of water all right so there is the look you'll get when you use those fabrics in this particular pattern and it's called urban chic is the name of the pattern and it is available in fast and fun okay so this is urban chic and it's in the book fast and fun three yard quilts all right we'll take that one away hannah and the next one that we have for oh did i go over the kit i didn't go over the kit number let's do that so here's our kit number it's called enchantment urban chic is the pattern it's available in fast and fun it is not available as an individual pattern so we would recommend the stepping stone as your alternate pattern now remember you can use any one of my three yard quilt patterns with any one of our three yard kits or if you're doing stash busting all you need is three one yard cuts of fabric you need a focus then you'll need a light and a dark to go with that so that one's called enchantment the next quilt that we have is called brick street we no longer have this fabric but we've picked out a really cool fabric over here that we're going to share with you and show you what it would look like if it was made up in this so let's pull these fabrics over and this is another art deco fabric and notice that we have two large prints and then we have a light colored background here so that will separate your two larger prints and the light just becomes your background to keep those separated from one another now the fabric that we've chosen is another art deco look so we'll come over and look at it this would be our focus fabric and that would go in the number one position and in this particular quilt that makes the number one position actually be will work well for any directional fabric so directional or non-directional either one would work in your number two but you don't want to use a directional fabric did i say that right in your number one position it won't matter it'll go the right direction if you want to use a directional fabric if you use your number two fabric it must be a non-directional fabric for your number three position so you've got your focus fabric you've got your light and you've got your dark so if you have a directional fabric don't use it in your third position use it in your first position this one is called deco daisies it's eight zero two zero four three four it's called brick street is the pattern it is not available as an individual it's in that fast and fun book but an alternate pattern would be dash and that would show up where the brick street has rectangles dash has squares with an additional little square in there it'd look really good with that the next quilt is called trellis and this one is from fast and fun also we're showing a lot out of fast and fun today so if you don't have fast and fun book it'd be really simple for you to order three kits and get this book and you have eight different patterns and we're showing a lot from this particular book okay so this one's called trellis and we have some great let's put it up on the table so they can see the similarity now we don't have that fabric available but we do have a great fabric that you could use as an alternate fabric so let me show you how it would work this is a similar fabric in fact i think this fabric is from the same line this is a robert kaufman fabric and it has those golds really pretty pretty fabric this would go into your number one position which is your largest print and then we have this beige for your number two and the blue for your number three so you would get a very similar look to this with these fabrics and this one is called valley of the kings it's 8020.00802020 oh oh that's a lot of twos uh a lot of o is one of the other okay it's called trellis is your pattern that is only available in the book fast and fun but we do have it available as an alternate pattern called hopscotch so it would give you a very similar look so once again valley of kings and it's 802 200. all right the next one that we have for you this is the topsy-turvy pattern now topsy turvy is a great children's quilt it's a little bit smaller than some of my quilts but it makes up great to show off a cute more juvenile print and we're going to move into the 30s now with our vintage look and the fabric that we have for this one that would be adorable in topsy-turvy is this little uh topsy turvy i mean a little puppy print it would go in that quilt really well and that cute um the 30s prints and many of you have probably heard this story that the the flower companies realized that uh one way to really help in recycling was actually print fabric in their flower in their flower and feed bags were printed fabrics that they could actually the customers can actually use to sew with and there's a lot of quilts out there made with the flower sac prints and i can remember my mother making quilts all the way up into the 50s i don't know if they were still making it but i can remember having dresses that were considered like the flower uh the flower sack prints and they were all little bitty prints they were calicos and things like that she also made rag dolls and used the fabrics for their dresses so those are some fond memories from my early childhood days so this is a cute little 30 sprint with a little puppy and he's got a little yellow and a little red on his body and we've picked up that yellow and the red so very very colorful and it would be an adorable children's quilt uh it's called puppy pals and it's 8020433 topsy turvy is the pattern we recommend it's available in the quilts for kids book it's also available as an individual okay did you have anything you wanted to uh comment on the 30s fabric hannah about covered it okay so um they were very um into those little bitty prints in the 30s okay this one we don't have this fabric available but we have some pieces and parts to show you so you can see how it will make up in a different fabric so this one is from my very first book quick and easy three yard quilts and it's called picture perfect and one of the cool things about this pattern if you're into embroidery i really did intend for you to be able to embroider in a blank box blank block and it would uh be a nice size block for you to do that in i do not know why i have my little frog with me today so please forgive me i have to drink all right let's put that one up on the table john and we have some pieces to show you okay so this is the fabric that we're going to put into this quilt and these fabrics are um more like about a 50s 40s and 50s 40s 40s they had they were big on florals in the 30s as well it's probably a little bit on the big side for 30s so maybe moving into week advice okay okay so this one is called golden flowers and what we did was we put together a block so you've got this block and we would do a unit here with the long strips and this in the middle and then we would put side pieces on it so this one you can see even better because you can actually see the seam lines here so this would be your solid block there and then in your plane block we will put it right up here and you'll be able to see how pretty that would be if you were to make this quilt up isn't that pretty i really do like this color combination very sun shiny and pretty let me put let me put something over here my cropper isn't quite big enough so we'll put that here and over here to block it out and give you a better look i think that'd be really cute very cheerful yes janelle said it reminds her of the 70s in the 70s oh okay well i didn't see that i guess i was a little more psychedelic 70s we're not going to talk about what i was like in the 70s [Laughter] no i wasn't the wild one i was i was a wild mama okay so here's our number one fabric and then we have our number two picks up that yellow and then our number three fabric is the green so we've got the two fabrics you can kind of squint and you can see the difference between the two that this is the lighter so that's why it goes in the number two position here's the pattern it's called picture perfect and the name of the kit is golden flowers 8020329 and the quick and easy book is available you can use you can choose it on the book deal where you buy three kits and get a book free but it will be a download only we give you a code and you go on and download the um the book that way now if any of you are thinking how you want to do a little stash busting our books are 15.99 each including the downloadable books they're only 15.99 for eight patterns now my first book did not have enlargement instructions but uh the the children's have twin size and all of the others have your three different sizes so that comes with the books okay the next one that we have is called skipped him a little bit to my lou and that one is from easy peasy easy peasy let me pull up that book so this is the easy peasy book and this one's called skip to my lou and that one is we do have this fabric available on our website but we also have it available with the replacement fabric over here that we want to show you and i think i was wrong this is not available on the website right now we're waiting for this blue to come in it should be in by the first part of next week so we have these two they came in but the blue didn't make it here yet so as soon as that comes in we'll have this one up on the web let's look at our replacement fabrics that we are recommending now this one is this one moving into 40s and 50s now are we still in 30s i have to rely on hannah because she did all the research for me i still see this one as 30s oh yes yeah because the print is so small and okay it probably is kind of a bridge between 30s and 40s okay well i kind of thought that way you know i can i can almost see this one is uh it almost looks like fruit on there with the flowers that would be a really cute kitchen wall hanging as well so this is our focus fabric that's our number one fabric our number two fabric is the gold or the yellow and then our number three is the blue and you can see how we've picked up the blue from in here and the yellow from in the print so we have our focus our two and our three this one is called folk art 8020436 it's skip to my lou and that one is available in the book easy peasy three yard quilts it's also available as an individual pattern now so you can either choose the pattern or you can choose the book when you order three kits all right this one we no longer have this fabric available but this is a great quilt for showing off cool prints because it has a nice big 10 inch block it'll handle the larger novelty prints so this one will be great for novelties and we have a cute novelty that we want to show you over here this one's called sweet times and it also is in the easy peasy book the fabric that we've chosen for this one remember i just said something about ragdolls isn't this cute and see i can really see the little kind of the flower sack look in that rag ragdoll's dress but i remember my mama made rag dolls all the way up until probably well i guess probably till the mid 50s anyway because i had two older sisters that she made it for as well but that's adorable so you have the little boy and the little girl rag dolls that's our focus it would show off great in that ten inch it would be a big block like this adorable and then this is the number two fabric and here is your number three fabric so you've got the really bright colors of the red and the blue to go with it absolutely adorable now this one is 8020435 rag dolls it's the sweet time fab uh pattern and that's available in easy peasy and it's also available as an individual pattern so you can choose either one the next one that we have is called porch rails and we don't have this particular fabric available do we have any other kitties on the web i think we are sold out of kitties right now okay i've got some on order and if i'm not mistaken i think it's supposed to be here by the first of september where we we hope you know sometimes you just don't know when it's going to show up and then and then it when it rains it pours i think we've received um oh how many many many boxes of fabric lately so you just keep watching because we've got lots of goodies to show you but this one's called porch rails it has a block here and then it has a rail fence block here and when i designed it i said well this is the front porch and here's the rails i mean i just i really stretch to get those names sometimes but this one's called porch rails and we we're going to put that one up here because we have um some fabric to show you on this one and we also had some fun facts about this um norman rockwell he was 22 years old when he got his first cover of post and i remember this right 1916. in 1916. okay we'll see i've lost my cheat sheet so that i can't refer to it i think it's in the middle of this pile over here but we'll just keep on we'll see if donna can pass the test today but in 1946 he had the cover of the 1948. 1948 he had the cover of post with a fabric called gossip and we have some of that fabric and it is so cute so let me show you that all right so many of you remembered norman rockwell i had a couple of small paintings in my house that were reproductions of normal norman rockwell when john was a baby now this is called gossip and if you look you can see how this guy's telling this guy and this guy's telling this guy and here we have a woman who's telling her and she's telling him it's just too cute so it's called gossip and then we've got this pretty red and the black with it so this was actually the print that was on the cover of the post magazine in 1948 now we've got some little pieces and parts to show you so let's do that now so here we've cut a square out and it would take the place of where those kitties are and then we've done the strip piecing and made the rail fence and you'll notice that the rail fence surrounds your blocks so that would go all the way around you would have those blocks surrounding that and then we will crop it so you can see a little bit more of the way this would look that cute so it's a fun one if you like nostalgia that is a really cute one or maybe you have a friend that loves gossip you could you know have you ever heard that thing about um let's see i do not tell jokes well so i probably shouldn't have even started this one but if you have nothing to say nothing good to say about another well you can come over and sit by me i had a friend that told me that story one time she loved gossip so now you've seen the gossip fabric but that is cute cute i like that oh i didn't give you the information all right so here we have the information here's your kit number it's called gossip porch rails is your pattern and porch rails is in the pretty darn quick book it's also available as an individual pattern so you can get it either in pretty darn quick or as an individual pattern all right the next one that we have this one's called town square that one is in my easy peasy book and i remember polka dots in the 50s have i gotten into the right era yet but into the 50s there i remember a lot of polka dots i've always loved polka dots so this particular one we actually have the fabric for you this one's called hometown and if you'll look at this here's even though it's the same fabric you just get to pick which one you want to be your focal fabric if you want the aqua to be the focus fabric then that's your number one it's your biggest block and then we have the surrounded on each corner by the secondary color and your number two fabric here so you get to choose which one you want to be your focal fabric i just chose the aqua as you can see i'm a blue person i got on blue today so here's your fabric number one and then you have your fabric two and your fabric three and i think this one is just as cute as it can be now we used the town square pattern for that and we named it hometown we actually took that off the selvage of this uh cute little fabric from moda the the polka dots or modis um that pattern is available in that easy peasy book it's also available as an individual pattern now this is a last chance there's only four left but that particular one was available in my book easy peasy and it was a recent discovery uh we have a storeroom that every once in a while things kind of hide back there and somehow or another we had four of these kits in the store room and hannah found it so check that one out all right the next one that we have also goes with town square oh this one also goes with towns the new one this is a new kit for our town square oh i like that and this is a mode of fabric too isn't it okay so this one has the a little bit of that 40s look of the fabrics very nice and the colors yes i love the colors and then this is the secondary fabric picking up the colors again and then on this one for your number three very pretty and this one is called aqua breeze is with the town square pattern and the number is 8020430 now all of these kits are available on our website fabriccafe.com and just to repeat you can get a book free when you buy three kits or you can take one free pattern with each one you get to choose and all you have to do is pick the book deal and then put the name of the book that you want down in the comments section when you're checking out this particular one is called dominique and dominique is one of my favorite quilts i just love it kind of looks like a flower in here doesn't it that's cute and um this particular one is from the modern views book so that's kind of a little uh stylized fabric there um a pattern that with the dominique okay we're using these colors and this one is called going dotty and it's the dominique pattern and here are our colors so these would be your alternating blocks and then that black polka dot so you've got your number one fabric your number two fabric is your lightest and your number three fabric is your polka dot or that would give you the same kind of look as we got in that pattern with the polka dots for your sashing and the two colors comprising the background so it's 8020432 going dotty and it's dominique pattern from the modern views book and i'd like to show you these books i think this is the first one we used from modern views today so this one has eight different patterns as well and here's your dominic next we have the heartland pattern we do not have that fabric available but we've got a good replacement over here and this one is has been a real popular pattern for us it's a lot of fun easy to do easy easy to do you this is the the number one fabric or your focus fabric your light in your background in your dark frames so that one is really cute oops let's go right over here we have an antiquey looking fabrics here this one has little sewing machines the little antique sewing machines and the antique scissors so a very antique look to this one so this would be your focus fabric and it would be bordered by this with those squares like i was showing you and then this is your number two which is the background really makes that um pattern really pop with the contrast so this one is 8020431 it's antique seams heartland is the pattern and that one is in the pretty darn quickbook or you can choose it as an individual pattern so antique scenes all right now we've got some last chances there's only a few of these left this one's a pretty cute one isn't that pretty this is a very um kind of an asian look to me and has the cute little black kitties i have two black kitties in my life well actually i have two black kitties and one black kitty with white so i have three black kitties in my life i'm i am blessed with kitties they just show up in my life over and over again 8020440 blossom is the name of the kit we're recommending sweet times which we showed you earlier with one of the other ones this is a really cute pattern that really shows off large prints so your focus fabric and then we picked up that peachy color and we have the black in the background i like this kit a lot very nice and that one is sweet times and um the book is easy peasy your number is 8020440 and our last two last chances okay so here's another one of those kind of 30 sprint like you would find on that you would have found on the flower sacks or the feed sacks and you have your focus you have your number two and your number three fabric and this one is called let's garden and it's 8020439 we only have two of these left so check that out if that's of interest to you and we're using the friendship star so your star would be the red the yellow would be your background color and then your focus fabric would be your gardening fabric only two left of that one and this one only has two left as well and it's another sewing themed fabric and it has thimbles and safety pins and spools of thread really cute and then it has the two colors your number two print and your number three print now this is the last chance we only have two of those left we are recommending the pretty please pattern it's called pins and spools and it's 8020441 and this is the pattern it is not in any book but remember any one of my patterns will work with any one of your three yard quilt kits or if you are trying to bust that stash remember the books the books are really super because you get eight different patterns and each pattern is written for three different sizes so check it out at our fabriccafe.com website and we appreciate your joining us today now we will have a program on thursday this week so be sure to join us i think we have some cool things picked out for you then so have a great one
