good morning everybody and welcome back to mexico city we are super excited this morning we're up very early because we'll be ticking off a destination that has been on our bucket list for years [Music] today we're going to be doing a day trip from mexico city all the way up to the pyramids of teotihuacan which is about 30 miles north east of mexico city this destination is definitely one that's very special and one that we thought we couldn't afford to miss whilst we were here in mexico there are many ways to visit the pyramids we found a way to visit it by public transportation so we're gonna walk you through it step by step which will probably cost you a fraction of the price that you would pay by a tour without further ado let's get going to get to the teotihuacan pyramids by public transport you'll first need to get to mexico city's outer buses del norte bus station it's located in the north of the city and has a metro line running directly to it although you'll probably need to change lines a few times depending on where you're coming from so once you've arrived at autobots del norte head inside and go all the way to the left hand side of the station where you'll see a ticket office called stealthy hurricane buy your return tickets here and then hop on to the bus from gay 8. the ride takes about an hour and the site opens at 9 00 am so getting a bus around 8 am should get you there just in time for opening [Music] so as you can see behind us we just arrived to the pyramid and we really can't wait to start exploring it as you can see the balloons are still up so if you come early you might be able to catch them i want to give you a quick update on prices and what you can do and can't do so the entry fee was 80 pesos per person plus we paid an extra 50 pesos to be able to record videos they give you a separate ticket and they check it it's on 50 pesos it's not not very expensive there were some guys offering guided tours outside if you're interested in that sort of thing not sure what prices they were offering but it probably depends on what you want from it and how big the group size is what language you're doing it in that kind of thing there are also lots of signs and plaques around so you can read about the place as well [Music] means place where men become gods and is the name given to this ancient city by the mexicans when they discovered it already in ruins the original name of the city and the people that inhabited it still remain a mystery although in its heyday it was believed to be an important commercial and political center housing 100 to 200 000 inhabitants it was declared a world heritage site in 1987 and is now the most visited archaeological site in mexico so if you arrive early like us which we actually highly recommend to avoid the crowds and the heat then has trade for the pyramid of the sun which is the largest structure at the site at 63 meter high the use of this pyramid and the meaning it had for the inhabitants is still kind of a mystery however ritual practices and tombs are common theories unfortunately at the time of our visits you can't actually go up to the top of the pyramids which is a real shame because you've seen pictures of the views from up there and they are amazing so yeah i don't know when the plan is to reopen that hopefully when you guys visit you'll be able to get the full experience and climb to the top of the pyramid as well because i'm sure will add so much to the experience next head down the avenue of the dead which runs north to south through the entire city and entered the pyramid of the moon which is the oldest and second largest building in south huracan at 45 meter high this temple was used to perform ceremonies to the goddess of water related to the moon and archaeologists have discovered tombs under the pyramid containing human and animal remains as well as relics from the time finally head to the palace of quetzal papaloto which was thought to be the home of the chief priests of teotehuacan the exterior is guarded by jaguars and the interior would have been decorated with motifs depicting the divinity of water [Music] again unfortunately probably due to restrictions the museums are closed too so you can't really visit them either together with not being able to see the museums or not being able to climb on top of the pyramid it's kind of taken away from that whole experience because i think that should have been the highlight definitely the visit it's absolutely still worth coming you just get a sense when walking around here of being immersed in like an ancient culture and you really feel the history around you the one slight downside to that is that you're surrounded by about three to five thousand other people as well nine o'clock when we arrived i could feel the magic of this place but right now i don't i think it's just too hot it's the middle of the day there's lots of people out there there's no shade so make sure you bring plenty of water hopefully when you guys do get to come if you ever come to visit here you'll come in a time where we're a little bit back to normal and these things are open again so you get that full experience that we unfortunately haven't got today [Music] so we're about to exit the site now we've pretty much been around all of the main the main areas and we're gonna be getting the bus back to mexico city if you are exiting and trying to get the bus back there's actually five different exits you can enter and exit through and if you're looking to get the bus back you should be exiting probably through either gate two or gate three especially if you came in through gate one that way you can do like a nice big circle and don't have to sort of backtrack on yourself if you exit through gate two like us then the bus will pick you up from the side of the road about here there'll be many other people waiting here to get the bus back so it shouldn't be too hard to find we waited about 20 minutes and then hopped on the bus back to the norte bus station before taking the metro back home [Music] and it was definitely a long day a constant sun and the amount of people around you it kind of tires you out a bit more it's definitely a great experience to do obviously there was a lot of limitations on what we could do today if you are getting public transport there then it's very very easy like we had absolutely no problems with that biggest advice to make the most of the experience if you can't climb onto the top of the pyramids and come with the museum is to go by public transport because then it will be a lot cheaper if you take the tour but you can't do everything i think price wise it's probably better to take probably transportation so hopefully this video has given you a good idea of like the current situation at the pyramids and what it's like to travel around and see them if you enjoyed this video make sure to give it a thumbs up and consider subscribing and we will see you on the next adventure [Music] [Music] you
