Welcome to this quick guide where I'm going to show you how to upgrade from Windows 8 or 8.1 to Windows 10 for free. And if you get any value out of this video, please click the like button and subscribe to the channel. But to get started with the guide. If you want to upgrade your copy of Windows 8 or 8.1 to Windows 10, I'm going to show you exactly how to do that in this guide. And we're going to be doing that in five simple steps. Now, the first thing that you need to check is you need to check if your Windows is activated because it has to be activated for you to upgrade it to Windows 10. So to do that, you can right click on your start button down here, then you can click on system. It's going to open up this system page, and it's going to display if you have Windows 8 or 8.1. And down here by Windows activation, you need to check that Windows is activated. If it's not activated, you need to get it activated first before you can continue following this guide. So once you have it activated, the next thing we need to do is we need to either install Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, because we need one of these browsers to download the Windows 10 ISO file without the media creation tool. So next, let's install Google Chrome. If you already have Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, you can skip this step. But I have a fresh install of Windows 8.1 on this computer. So I'm going to just download and install Google Chrome from this web page. And by the way, I'll also have a written guide where I'll leave all of these links for you so you can easily follow along to this guide. And you can find the link to my written guide in the description of this video. So I'm just going to go to this web page in Internet Explorer that's built into Windows 8.1. And then just click on download Chrome. And then just click on download Chrome manually because it doesn't look like the download starting automatically. Then I'll just click on run. Click on Yes for this user account control prompt. And then just install Google Chrome. Okay, so once Google Chrome is installed, you can just minimize it. And the next thing that we need to check is we need to check our system and language settings. So for that, once again, right click on your start button, then click on system. And in the same system properties, we know that we had open before where we checked if Windows is activated, you need to check if you have a 64 bit or a 32 bit operating system. And you need to keep that in mind for when we download the Windows 10 ISO file. Now next, you need to check your region settings. And to do that, you can also right click on the Start menu, then you can click on control panel. Then once you're in the control panel, just make sure that you set this to either large or small icons here on the right, then just scroll down on this list until you find the region settings and then click on that. And then in this window, you want to have a look at your language up here. I've got English South Africa, you need to check what you have installed there. Because when we download the Windows 10 ISO file, we'll either need to select English United States or English International. Now I know for a fact that I've got an English United States ISO file that I need to download. But you can just have a look at what yours is set to here. And then once we get to the download of the Windows 10 ISO file, you can just download the correct language. So once you've done all of that, you can close all of these windows. And then we can go to the Windows 10 software downloads page. And once again, I'll leave this link in my written guide. So you can just go ahead and get that from the description. But we need to open this with either Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. So I'll just paste that web address into Google Chrome, and then press enter to go to the Windows 10 downloads page. Now once you're on this web page, you can scroll down and you'll see that we can't actually download the Windows 10 ISO file directly, we either need to use the update assistant or the media creation tool. But I'm going to show you how to skip all that. And what you can do is you can just right click anywhere on this page, and then click on inspect. Once you've done that, you're going to see this window pop up here on the right. And next you need to click on these three little dots that you see up here, the ellipsis menu, click on that, then click on more tools, and then select network conditions and click on that. Once you've opened that, you'll see at the bottom here, you have this new tab called network conditions. You can scroll down on this page. And here it says user agent, just deselect this checkbox, and then click on the custom drop down menu and change that to BlackBerry BB 10. Select that. And then just click on this button up here to reload the page. Or you can also press F5 on your keyboard to reload the page. But once this page is reloaded, you'll see that you can now download the Windows 10 ISO file. And you can just scroll down on this page. And you'll find this Windows 10 update section here where you can download version 22 h2. Then you can click on this drop down menu to select the Windows 10 multi edition ISO, then click on confirm. Next, just scroll down and then select your product language. Now, like I said before, for English, there are two versions. There's the English US version. And then there's the English international version. Now I know I use the English US version. So I'm going to select that. But you need to select whatever you had in your region and language settings. And if you're unsure about what to use here, most likely if you're in the United States, you'll use the US version. And if you're anywhere else in the world, you'll probably be using the English international version. But choosing the correct version here is very important because it's going to determine if you'll be able to keep all of your files and apps once you upgrade to Windows 10. Now, if you really don't know what to choose here, just download any one of them and check if you're able to do the upgrade. And if it doesn't work, just follow this process again and select the other version to download the other ISO file. But to continue, just click on confirm like I did there. And now you can choose between 32 bit and 64 bit. And this is where you need to choose whatever you have here in the system page. If you have a 64 bit or a 32 bit version, I have 64 bit. So I'll select the 64 bit download. And that's now going to download the Windows 10 ISO file. And it's almost six gigs in size. And we'll just need to wait for that to finish. Then we can carry on with the guide. Okay, so once the download is finished, you can just click on Show in folder so you can show that ISO file in your downloads folder. Now next, just right click on it, then don't click on mount, click on Open with then select Keep using Windows Explorer. Or maybe you'll need to click on more options, but you'll need to find the Windows Explorer from this list of files. Select the Windows Explorer. And it's going to open this new window where you'll find the setup application and you can double click on that to run it. Click Yes on the user account control prompt. And then it's going to launch the Windows 10 installation wizard. On this first screen, you can just click on Change how Windows setup downloads updates, and then click on not right now. And you can also deselect this checkbox down here, then click on Next. It's going to do some checks on your PC. Next, just click on Accept on the license terms. It's going to do some more checks on your computer. It'll check if you have enough free space on your PC to do the upgrade to Windows 10. And then once you're ready to install, you'll see that you'll be able to install Windows 10 and then whichever version of Windows 10 you have pro or home or home single language, and that you'll be able to keep all of your personal files and files in one place. If you can't keep all of your personal files and apps, it means you didn't select the correct language when you downloaded the Windows 10 ISO file. So just go back to the step where you download the Windows 10 ISO file and make sure that you select the correct language. But once you're happy with this, you can do the upgrade and nothing will be deleted. You'll keep all of your files and applications or programs that you have installed. So once you're ready, just click on Install, and it's going to start downloading Windows 10. Click on Install, and it's going to start upgrading your Windows 8 or 8.1 to Windows 10. And if you have Windows installed on an SSD, you can expect this to take around half an hour or 45 minutes. But if your Windows is installed on a hard drive, it could take even longer. It could take up to two hours or even more. But once it's finished, you'll be on Windows 10 and you can start using Windows 10. When the upgrade is finished, you'll probably need to choose some privacy settings for your device. And I suggest that you just turn all of these sliders. And then once you've done that, you can just click on Accept. And then you'll have a Windows 10 installed on your computer. Now next, once the Windows 10 upgrade is finished, I recommend that you go ahead and check for updates. And you can do that by right clicking on the Start button again, then clicking on Settings. Then you can open this window and click on Update and Security. And you can click on Check for updates. If you have any issues with checking for updates or installing the updates, you can also just click on Pause updates for seven days. And then once you've done that, you can just click on Resume updates. And the Windows 10 updates should be working perfectly fine. And you can then just go ahead and get your copy of Windows 10 up to date. The next thing that you need to check is you can click on the Activation tab here on the left. And you can check if your Windows is activated. Basically, if Windows was able to convert your Windows 8 license to a Windows 10 license. In my case, Windows 10 was activated with my Windows 8 license code. But if your Windows is now unactivated, you'll need to purchase a new Windows 10 license key. You can find links in the description of my video and in the pinned comment where you can purchase a legal Windows 10 Pro product key. And you can use that product key to upgrade your Windows 10. Whether you have Windows 10 Home, Home Single Language or Windows 10 Pro, you can use a Windows 10 Pro product key to activate that copy of Windows. So once again, just have a look at the links in the description of the video and the pinned comment and then you can go ahead and get your Windows activated. Other than that, feel free to check out any of the other Windows guides I have on this channel. But I hope this Windows 8 to Windows 10 upgrade guide has been useful.
