[Music] hey guys this is ruid and i do hope you all are doing great now before we start off with today's video i just want to say a big thank you to you guys once again for being here with me our family has grown to over 10 000 subscribers which is way beyond anything that i've ever imagined to be honest so a big shout out to you guys for being here with me and i do hope you all are enjoying being a part of this wonderful community that we built together and with that out of the way let's jump into today's video all right so just to give a bit of a context right here i've been using custom roms on my phone since the last year or so and the thing that i get asked a lot these days is hey roid i got this from x on my phone that there's an update recently so how do i update my phone well this is definitely the video for you but the thing that you need to understand first is that custom rom updates are much more frequent than stock rom updates in case of stock roms you almost need to wait an eternity for minor bug fixes or even some android security patches and sometimes it may happen that you don't get an update at all but in case of custom roms especially the ones that are official you get updates almost monthly weekly or even daily yes linear joys uses i'm talking about you so what i'm trying to say here is that if you're on a particular build of a rom that you find is quite stable for daily activities you don't need to install an ota update as soon as it comes rolling to your phone skip a couple of them it's only once you realize that the update is major and by major i'm referring to android security patches or some feature additions like audio improvements then only you install the update so how do you install the update let's answer that right now so what happens when you do get an update to your custom rom like this one well the most obvious instinct will be to go ahead and try to install it normally but the thing is most custom roms either don't allow to install it this way or even if it does it crashes midway in the process okay so that is quite understandable so how do i install an update then the answer to that is sturdy flashing now to understand what a dirty flash is you first need to understand what is the meaning of a clean flash now if you watch my earlier videos i am sure you might have realized the fact that i always urge you guys to do a full factory reset to your phones before you install any custom rom and that is what is referred to as a clean flash meaning you get a clean slate for your custom rom so that once it gets installed to your phone it can do all the necessary configurations to your partitions and then you can install apps restore your data and then use your phone like a normal person so that is basically what is referred to as a clean flash and this is the step to follow if you're on a roll like me who switches around and plays with different custom roms but let's say there's an update to a custom rom like in my case so what do i do in that case the zip file that i'm going to install is basically a new version of the same rom file that i have on my phone so in that case when you're installing this rom you don't need to install the rom by performing a full factory reset so a clean flash without a full factory reset is basically dirty flash but hey we are not einsteins here right so enough of the theory classes let's dive into the practicals all right so as you can see i have my redmi note 10 pro right here and it's currently running on the pixel os but this will work with most of the custom roms out there so let me show you the build number real quick let's go to settings about phone and then if you scroll down to the build number you can see that i'm running on the july build now there was one update that was released in august so if you pull down from the notification shade you can see that indeed we have a new build available as an ota now there are basically two things that you can do right here you can either download the rom zip file to your phone first and then have it transferred to the pc or you can download the latest zip file over to the pc directly now me personally i obviously prefer the second method because first of all it's quite easy to do that second thing is that the phone is not being used as a middleman and the third thing is quite weird because for some reason when i was trying to download the wrong to my phone the download speeds were horrendously low like i was trying to download from some fort knox servers [Music] all right with that being said let's first turn off our phone then reboot by holding the volume up and the power button at the same time and then once you enter the recovery connect your phone to the computer using the same usb cable that came with your phone now jumping over to our pc let's first download the latest from zip file you can find the link to download from your rom's official website in my case it's pixel os so i've already downloaded the rom file right here so now let's head over to platform two's folder and open up a command prompt session here by typing cmd in the address bar and pressing enter next up let's head over to our phone and here we are going to tap on apply update and then tap on apply from adb now in our command prompt window type in the command adb space devices and then press enter you should be seeing a serial number with the word side load present next to it meaning that our phone is all ready to accept the new rom zip file so with that being said let's type in the command adb space side load and then drag and drop the new rom zip file over to the cmd window and then press enter now you all know the drill here the process will continue till 47 and then just exit out but that's fine the flashing is done and just like i mentioned earlier you don't need to select format data or factory reset here in this case and you can go ahead and safely reboot your devices and unless the aliens are flying above your homes right now you should be landed onto your home screens now as you can see right here all your data is intact nothing happened but here's the thing if you go to settings and check your build number you'll now see that you're running on the latest build of your custom rom and depending upon the rom that you're on you might even get a notification up here saying that it's finishing the update process letting you know that the update was successfully done so there you have it that was basically how you install an update to your custom roms using the process of dirty flash i hope you guys enjoyed watching this video and if you did definitely hit that like button and please subscribe and turn on notifications so that you don't miss out on a single upload so this is me roid signing off i'll see you guys in my next video and thank you so much for watching [Music] you
