How to Treat Drywood Termites in Patio Cover Joists w/ Orange Oil + Boracare |Santa Clarita Termites

all right so I'm here in Valencia and there was a contractor who is pulling out a bunch of pieces of wood for a patio cover repair and guess what we found tons and I need tons of dry wood termites inside of the floor joists this is about a seven to ten year old infestation so we're gonna kill them with orange oil and boring as you can see right here termites have a tendency to eat the wood from the inside out okay this species of termite is called the dry wood termites specifically the southwestern dry wood termites they're huge here in Southern California and as you can see oftentimes they go for the soft wood in between the grain first but you can tell they're dry wood termites because of how smoothly the inside of those galleries are looking at look how that's just perfectly smooth that's exactly the way dry wood termites do their damage so what we have to do is find a way to inject into those galleries the tunnels they make are called galleries and we're gonna find a way to inject into the wood a bunch of orange will and that would that warm oil is gonna soak through the entire piece of wood killing any termites that are left inside and then from the outside we're gonna spray on boric air then we'll go in their attic and treat any other unprotected word preventatively or preventively so that they don't have to worry about getting infestations elsewhere now whenever you find a termite infestation in a patio cover oftentimes that's just the tip of the iceberg so we're gonna go inside and make sure that there's no other termites or see if there are indeed other termites so there's where all of the rafters of the patio cover were taken out and these are the floor joists that are coming inside and you can see that there's still termites even this far into the piece of wood you can actually feel it you feel how hollow that is you hear that that's because termites have actually gotten this far in see there's some other galleries no wonder we're taken out and you can see their pellets in some of these areas like up here see it right there there's some termite pellets that are coming down this termite infestation has gone all the way from there to here and we're gonna be treating even down there so I'm here with my buddy Amir and we're gonna do this orange oil treatment in real time right in front of your eyes so the first thing you need is a drill and a seven sixty fourths drill bit then you got to have the proper PPE basically meaning gloves but you definitely make sure you got ID protection because the warrant royal if it get to your eyes mooie no bueno so anyway you got to make sure you can press all of the orange oil and then oh it's time to rock and roll step number one so the first step is you have to drill a hole into the infected pieces of wood until you can actually feel the dry wood termites inside you're gonna hit those tunnels you're gonna hit those galleries you'll feel the drill bit slip then step number two oh you can hear it that's a good head step number two is actually injecting that gallery through the hole that you just made with XD mm orange oil and you can actually hear it traveling through the wood it's a pretty awesome all the way here once you've injected enough orange oil into that gallery it's actually going to slowly soak through the entire piece of wood through the capillary effect over the next four to six hours just completely melting the exoskeleton of the termites inside in the process it's pretty awesome then just to make sure that the whole entire piece of wood is treated we're gonna do this exact same thing every eight to twelve inches along the entire beam and along every beam that is exposed inside of this room [Applause] oh ho look at that oh you can hear it dude well I see it's coming out the other ones oh no dribbles okay I'm gonna try one myself you're right you feel back money oh you can hear it going right here oh yeah what do you that you got another one see that right there it's coming out yeah right here oh that was a big colony man right here look in the meal oh yeah you can see it right there oh that's great right hit oh yeah look at that I knew it we hit a big one oh look even bigger there's more up there sweet oh look it's even coming out right here that's it yeah this is traveling through the entire length of the beam that's a good hit fortunately this contractor while doing the repair on the patio cover outside was also replacing some wood and reinforcing some wood up here in the ceiling so we have all of this great structural wood exposed so I'm gonna take the extra Borak hair that we have and treat all of these pieces of wood and all of these four joists above me so that we don't have to worry about any termite colonies that the orange soil might have missed spreading by the time we're done spraying these pieces of wood you might as well have made them out of metal [Music]
