Seriously... These videos are inspiring me to get out and play / practice more and be better.

TBH - I was skeptical of you joining the DG community so quickly. I was nervous your viral fame from trick-shots on YouTube would not fit with the established "community"... But now I see that it was me who was naive.

Your videos are professional, informative, and raw. You also happen to have an incredible talent for picking up a sport quickly, and a genuine desire to learn, so that helps as well.

Bottom line, keep it up! You are definitely improving the visibility and quality of the sport. πŸ€™πŸΌ

You and Simon should collab on a trick shot video for sure. Only issue is he’s up in the Northeast, and I’m not sure how feasible travel is right now.

what is happening guys welcome back to the channel we are here in Waco tech tech nut bit bit 2nd Texas just have all these things in there what is happening guys welcome back to the channel we are here in Waco Texas and I am here with Jeremy coaling aka big germ and we're getting ready for the Waco annual charity open which is also an acronym for Waco is what you just told me which is actually pretty cool it is Jeremy if you haven't seen Jeremy kind of does a route you guys you do a really good job at this course thank you and one of the things I want to show the people too is the forehand because a lot of the lines on this course if you want to go back and watch some footage of it a lot of lines you take forehand where many people take backhand and I think the reason is the forehand is a better throw but there is that comfortable throwing it yeah there's a lot of reasons I mean you know the the predominant throw for players over the history of the sport has been the backhand mhm not many players really coming into and except for the last like maybe decade or so really developed the forehand where it was a tool for their game the forehand for me allows me to face the fairway without turning my body away that's huge and allows me to feel a little bit more confident with hitting my lines yeah that's huge so we're gonna see kind of just a breakdown of the forehand with him he's gonna throw some shots and hopefully teach us a thing or two today and hopefully you guys will have a better forehand moving forward alright so there's a couple basics of the forehand that I try to implement into my form I'm a former ultimate player myself actually shout out to the nomads back in early 2000s so when I came into disc golf I had the knowledge of throwing what we call lids now in disc golf and so everything that I threw was all forehand I had to basically learn how to get a disc to go right to go left to go straight all forehand because if I went back in I had no idea where it was going so basically like everything disc golf related you start off with a grip and I do a two-finger stack grip where I'm essentially taking the middle of my finger my middle finger and I'm placing it right there and what I call the wedge of the disc where the rim meets the flight plate and that way I have equal trol of the rim itself and the flight plate so that way I can propel the disc forward but also control the angle of the disc the next thing I'm worried about is my footwork so my run-up I want to keep things as simple as possible in disc golf you have what we call an X step and basically that's taking you from being standstill taking your momentum forward getting your body turned that way you can turn back into your shot either on the backhand or forehand the the premise still remains you're basically trying to get your hips turned so you get your whole body into the shot so I have a very simple four step run-up that I'll show you that gets me into my position I'll show you my first shot here with a champion roadrunner from Innova and this is an understable disc and that means that I have to put a lot of what we call Heiser angle on the disc and that is the outside edge of the disc is facing the ground so that when I throw it with this angle the disc will stand up this is less stability than other discs so with the disc what I'm basically allowing the disc to do is do all the work for me that way I'm not doing a lot of extra work with my body I'm not throwing it really hard I'm not really putting a lot of pressure on my elbow joint my shoulder joint my hips and my feet I'm basically being as smooth as possible and allowing the force of the disc with that perfect timing to do all the work for myself ok so if I'm throwing it straight I'll start off with my hips facing the target and then I'll start off right foot left foot and then I take my right foot and I bring it behind this plant leg here and then before this even hits the ground I'm already moving this foot forward into my plant step and the foot doesn't necessarily have to be pointing exactly straight but I don't want to close my body off this way then my hips can't open up fully to bringing it back towards that target so I can have my foot out forward and this gets my body in that low position right here where I can take all my weight from my back leg and force it through here and get my hips turned which in turn brings my shoulder which brings my elbow through my hip and at that point it's whipping forward and it's creating that torque so we'll show you what it looks like so if I'm just trying to keep a short straight shot I don't have to throw what we call overstable discs and try to flex it I can take something under stable putting a little bit of angle on it allowing the distance stand up and do all the work for yourself okay I got a couple of fairway drivers that I'll show you I got a couple of champion eagles from Innova basically doing the same exact thing notice the follow-through is always pointing in that direction I don't want to short arm myself that right there is gonna put a lot of elbow tear and that's how you get tennis elbow in disc golf I think it's really important that you are able to throw a wide variety of angles so not just under stable not just over stable not just straight you want to be able to find the mix for all different types of shots but for me to babies basically elongate my career I just don't want to hack it everything you know that's gonna put a lot of pressure on those joints and it's gonna break down over time that was buttery though no yeah that's my most understable eagle that one's really important on a course like here at Waco where there's a lot of technical lines and there's a lot of shots where I want to be able to face my target and I wanted the disc to drift left without putting much effort on it if I'm throwing really hard my accuracy is decreased right so trying to do everything at like 50 to 60 percent as opposed to 75 to 90 percent allows me to hit my lines more accurately and consistently over time now there are times when you get to open up a bit on this course and you can take a faster speed driver which generally requires a little bit more left-to-right space and getting the disc to flex to get that maximum distance so I like to go with a star Wraith and this allows me to put a little bit more angle on the disc a little bit more of the outside edge higher up and this also requires me to bring my elbow a little bit further away from my hip by doing so I can get the disc to glide left and really hold that line for a long time before it comes back flat and this is a higher speed disc so this is something that's going to give me much further down the fairway on some of these par fours some that's important to keep in mind when you're throwing discs like that that require a little bit of turn is that if the winds up and often is up here in Waco Texas is you want to be able to have something that you're comfortable with that's a little bit more what we call over stable and over stable generally means that it's going to fight the wind much better but you're not going to get quite as much distance because the disc is trying to get back down to the earth as fast as possible so I've got to start ashore what I have to do with this is I've put a little bit more angle on it but you're going to see that it's going to fight back to the ground quicker both types of shots are equally good just depending on what you're most comfortable with I think the most important thing for each player is to kind of try out different angles and find which disability works best for you some people don't like throwing mid ranges I person who I personally love to run mid ranges because I feel like I don't have to throw as hard again I'm getting the disc to do the work and I'm getting that speed control when you throw in a drive or even if it's just a fairway driver that speed coming into a green if it's on a hillside or if the green is tight and there's maybe a lot of woods to the right and you don't want to putt from the woods you want to get something to land flat and soft and true so I like to throw mid ranges like the AVR x3 like the rock the mortar so I'll show you a couple of those so I got a couple mortars that are mid ranges these are a little bit more of a stable meaning again they're trying to get down quick they don't have as much glide but these are really great for short shots to just get around the corner and again not really give me that extra skip so that it's coming to the green a little bit slower a little bit easier to control you can see as that thing hits the ground there it's just done all right so it's really easy to predict the landing of your shot this is again another mortar different plastic slightly different use a little bit more beat up slides a little bit straighter than the other one another thing to keep in mind while the forehand is such an advantage not only are you addressing your target head-on and you're not having to turn your body but by planning your foot forward you're not turning your hip your feet and so the grip is usually a lot more easier a lot easier to control and a lot of times you see when it's wet outside and tournaments some of the backhand players are slipping off the tee because they have to plant their foot and then they open up and when you're opening up like that your body can be a little bit unbalanced before hand just lands your hips turn and you have to worry about sliding so much which i think is a great advantage when it's raining got a star a br x3 this thing has been in the bag for almost three years now and it has is it three years oh my gosh maybe it's two years but either way it's been in the bag since the moment I got it and it's been my trusty go-to actually I debuted this disc at this event two years ago and every time I threw it I got up and down meaning the next shot was in the basket so is that like a putter yeah it's a putter speed so it's very very slow it doesn't have much glide but I what I like about it is that I can actually put more power behind my disc and rip through it sometimes you want to ease up on it on a tee shot sometimes you want to put a little bit more power into it based on all the parameters of the green I mean it really depends on what the wind is like this is a putter that really fights the wind well and so sometimes if you want to get 250 feet from this you have to really put a lot into it but I like that about this disc I can really put a lot of power behind it and it doesn't have a lot of Glide so if I want to run like a shot if I'm trying to make one from 200 feet out and I miss a chain height I don't have a 60 50 foot comebacker usually it's just kind of pumping the brakes and I've got a pretty short putt coming up after that so it's a really useful disc out here as well as you can see that's just I mean it's just dead straight and I'm so useful to have out here something that you can just trust there's so many narrow lines on this course and it's coming from that ultimate background to have something that you can just power through and this habit go dead straight I mean I remember when I first came over and made that transition I was looking for anything that was lit like my first disc I think was a polecat but it just didn't quite have that same characteristics of a disc that you were hoping for these kind of bridged that gap in a way so I think it might be a good disc for people making that transition from ultimate to disc golf to try out and the last thing I'll show you guys is I got a couple of rocks here enema makes the best-selling mid-range of all time star rock and all plastics The Rock has been tried and true and it's just one of the most technically dynamic mid ranges that allows you to allows the player to throw straight lines highs or lines and Heiser lines all sorts of different angles and for me I like this rock 3 because it's a little bit beat up again I can put a little bit of that hyzer line on it have it stand up and go straight and it's a little bit more distance than the AVR x3 so it kind of bridges the gap between that putter and fairway driver so that's about all I got to show you hopefully learned a lot today you ever have any questions feel free to reach me maybe there'll be an Instagram handle somewhere in this video somewhere but I'm always down to give tips advice clinics whatever you need happy to help and hopefully you guys try out for hands definitely give disc golf a try I mean it's the greatest sport in the world well there you have it guys you have all the information that you need to go out and throw four hands now it's just gonna be reps reps reps and more reps until you can get to this guy where you're throwing consistently we got a lot of traffic hopefully these are people coming
