Hi jet setters it's calvin i'm at jfk international airport in new york city today and i'm going to show you how to take the subway into manhattan let's go okay everyone i've just left the baggage and custom area of terminal 7 and this is the beginning of a two-step process the first thing we need to do is take the airtrain to the subway station the air train's like an elevated train it's a short little trip it's under 10 15 minutes to the subway station and then we take the subway into manhattan so you don't need a ticket to get onto the air train at the beginning so don't worry about trying to find a ticket machine you can just get on we're gonna have to pay a ticket to get off of the air train and then i'll show you all that in a few minutes so the first thing we need to do is actually find the air train station now i'm at terminal seven all you need to do is cross the street for terminal seven and take the elevator up to the station just look for all the signs that say air train if you're at one of the other terminals there's a couple different ways to get there there's usually a walkway or sometimes it's connected right into the terminal the best thing to do is just to look for the signs and if you're at the glamorous twa hotel you go through the jetblue terminal to get to the train to the city from that amazing property so let's cross the street to the air train station and i'll show you what that looks like over there okay everyone i' m in the air train station now and again this is the first of two steps we're going to take the air train to the subway station and there's actually a lot of different subways we can take into new york i'm going to show you how to take the e train which goes to midtown manhattan and it crosses from the east side to the west side so no matter which side of the city you're on it's a really good train to take and it goes to where most of the hotels are and all the airbnb so if it's your first time to new york you're probably staying in that area and if you've been there lots of times you like broadway and all that kind of stuff you might be in that area anyways so we're going to take the e train now to get on the e train you need to make sure you are taking the air train that is going to jamaica station so there's two different destinations for the air train one is jamaica station and the other one is howard beach if you go to howard beach that's a whole different route that's not what we're covering in this video it's not the end of the world you'll still get into manhattan but um it's better if you go to jamaica station so let's go on the train and see what the next part's like okay everyone i'm off the air train now and i'm outside the area where you get the tickets so let's talk all about that the first thing is you need a ticket to get off the air train and that is going to cost you 7.75 and then we need a ticket to get on to the metro which is going to cost 275. all in all we're going to get a metrocard and put it all on there and we're actually going to add a bit more because i know you guys are going to be taking trains around new york so let's let's fill it up to accommodate that okay so the first thing you're going to do is walk up to the machine you hit start in the language you want a transaction in and then you're going to hit metro card and we want to get a new card which is going to cost you a dollar and then it's going to show you a couple of options the one you want to pick is just regular metrocard we're going to fill that up with 20 that's a good amount to start if you lose your card you won't be too worried about that i wouldn't put the bigger amounts on because you never know what's gonna happen with your card and we can fill it up during the trip now the machine takes cash coins credit cards and debit cards so whatever you need to pay with it'll work in that machine once you have your metro card you need to walk through the turn styles to get out and make charge 1775 on there and this card is like a like a debit card it carries value until you use it all up and you can refill it so once you've exited you just go down the escalators and the next place we want to go to is the subway station so we're going to walk down a long thoroughfare to get to the subway station and we want to take the e train so let's go for that part okay we're on the platform now and i have my mask on because everywhere in new york right now you have to wear your mask for covid and you have to wear it all on the system we were just on too whenever you saw me talking i was sort of in a corner so no one i wasn't facing anybody so that's when i took my mask on so you could see me a little bit better but on the actual subway you have to make sure you have it on all the time when you're in new york city and now that we're on the platform what we're looking for is to take the e train and we're gonna take the train going in the direction of new york city because you can see there's two plat there's two um tracks on this platform here and we want to get on the one over here that's going to manhattan or to the world trade center Announcer: this is the manhattan bound e express train the next stop is jamaica van wycj okay jet setters i'm in manhattan now in times square so the center of it all and the trip took about just under an hour to get into new york city if you include the air train and the subway and sometimes it can take a bit longer or a bit shorter depending if the e train is running express i think the e train's a really good train if you're staying in midtown it stops on the east side at 53rd and lexington and you can actually take trains down from there if you're in that area stops on fifth avenue it stops at 7th avenue which is where i got up for times square you can also get off at 42nd street which is where the port authority bus station is and there's also 34th street if you need to go to penn station and there's a whole bunch of different places where you can connect to other parts of the subway system with the e-train i always say the best thing to do is to look on google maps and see where you're going and see what subway connects with that and you can also look for directions on google maps so if you guys like that video hit the thumbs up below and if you'd like to come on more jet setting adventures
