please leave them in the comment section below and I'd be happy to answer them and get back to you as soon as possible a little bit about this product this is citrus drip paint and varnish dripping Joe this is a low odor product that helps remove paint varnish lacquer almost anything that I've come across so far it really does a great job removing it from a piece that's going to be restored and refinished citrus drip contains no methylene chloride that is the chemical that's in some of those other stripping agents that you may have used in the past it's very caustic very nasty stuff you don't want to get it on your skin you don't want to get into your eyes definitely and you don't want to breathe in any of the fumes this is a bit of a safer alternative now with that being said it is still a chemical stripping agent so you do want to take precautions when using it definitely using gloves eye protection and plenty of ventilation I've got my window open here in the shop if you'd like you can use a respirator a dust mask but it does have a pleasant smell and as long as you have the windows open or you're doing this outside you're gonna be completely financing so today I'm going to show you some of the basic tips and techniques that we use at coastal upcycling to get the absolute best looking finish for our pieces as for the tools that we're going to be using old chip brush we can get from the hardware store for under a dollar a plastic scraper putty knife has to be plastic because we're going to be putting a lot of this stripping gel on there and we don't want to run the risk of couching or scratching the piece with a metal metal scraper and then a can or some sort of container to catch all the sludge in once we have this on there we're gonna be scraping it off and then wiping Internet a couple of other little items that I like having around definitely want some ranks and some low odor mineral spirits I'll show you how to use the low odor mineral spirits to wipe down the piece after we've used the stripping gel and if you'd like this is my old season pass you can use a credit card also what we'll do with this is we'll cut it into whatever shape we want and we can use this to get into this really tight spots to get all of the stripping gel off okay so one of the little secrets I'd like to share with you right now is go ahead and grab a piece of sandpaper sanding block whatever you have around you it can be an old piece that you have and give it a light stuff so allow the citrus trip gel to penetrate better which is going to give you a much better results okay so like I mentioned earlier in this video you definitely want to have all the protection on that you can protect your eyes protect your hands I'm in a well-ventilated area so we're good to go so grab your citrus drip bottle give it a nice little shake and the key to this product is to let it do the job let it work for you and we are gonna apply liberally we're gonna put a nice thick layer on so we're going to go ahead and put this on like I said very liberally don't over brush it when you over brush you are thinning out the material so thin that it's going to start to evaporate and dry out on and that's the secret to this stuff is that it must stay wet the whole time when it's wet it's working okay a nice thick thick layer all over and don't over brush that's it and walk away I know it's going to be very tempting to keep on brushing and try to move that stuff around but we want to just walk away and let it sit the instructions say 15 to 30 minutes and it should start lifting up some of your varnish it also says you can wait up to 24 hours but like I said you want this stuff to continue to stay wet and continue to work so we're gonna go ahead let this set and we'll come back to it in about okay so here you can see a little better how much of this product we've put on we've got it really really wetted down with the citrus drip product and that's what we want to see we want to put as much product down as possible that way it can stay as wet as possible okay we'll see you in just a little bit okay so 15 minutes is just about up and you can see that we're starting to get a little bit of drying here so it's definitely time for us to start scraping okay so here we've got our plastic scraping tool our sludge catcher and some rags now you definitely want to go with the grain you don't want to go across because you could run the risk of scratching it even with the plastic tool so firm pressure push down and start running across your piece you can see all that sludge starting to come up and then dump it in your waste container and just keep going across just like that you now I know the I love this product I love citrus drip and I know the makers of citrus drip want to make you believe that you only need to apply one time to remove everything and unfortunately that's just not the case a lot of the times you're going to do this two times maybe even three times just want that to completely come off because that if you don't that's what's going to affect the finish of your of your piece when you when you go back with new stuff we use my little credit card remnants here you even with your plastic products you still want to be careful not to a scratch or gouge your piece like I said this is wet and it's now more vulnerable to gouges and scratches so just take your time use some care and your patients will absolutely be rewarded okay so that's the first round if you can see there's still some areas that you either have some citrus drip on there or some of the lighter areas still have some varnish or lacquer on there so what we're gonna do we're gonna get our rag this is our low odor mineral spirits and we're gonna give it a wash down so we're gonna wipe off all the all the stuff that we see you can feel that they're still gunk on there because of the resistance on the rag okay it's nice and wipe down so let's go with round you okay so we're gonna let this sit for about another 15 or 30 minutes we'll give it another scrape down with our plastic scraping tool and then we're gonna let it dry overnight okay so once your piece has dried overnight you'll have some more work to do you're gonna have some sanding to do and once you've sanded it this is what its gonna look like so this piece maybe another couple of light sands and this is ready for refinishing so this is what your piece is going to eventually look like okay so thanks for sticking around in this video and I told you I would share with you a tip on how to make the citrus trip more effective and I got this trick from Mark Grammer the refurbished gentleman I'll have his link in my section below in the comment section below absolutely fantastic furniture he's got the most amazing pieces you gotta check him out in his videos are very very informative so the trick that I got from mark was on your first coat or your second coat use plastic wrap just regular old cellophane plastic wrap cover your piece because like I said earlier the secret to the citrus drip is that it stays wet when it's wet it's working and you want it to stay on there as long as possible make sure you've got all the air out put the plastic wrap all over it and let it sit for up to overnight you can put this on 24 hours come back take it off it's still gonna have a little moisture to it and it's going to be much more effective when you start scraping off your piece so that's it that's the video that's how we use citrus drip stripping gel tell me what do you think in the comments section below did you like this video can I go over something too quickly or didn't cover it enough let me know in the comment section below give me the thumbs up and give me the thumbs down if you didn't like it and let me know what I can do better for the next video all right so thank you for watching and we'll see you next time bye folks
