Sunderland a town of Industry culture art and Cuisine and also at Sunland is full of industrial pioneers and those sports champions of the world I've been sent here to film and find a solution for charging on some really nice units up here anytime I'm here I always think there's no sun without Sunland so here's the job we're at an electronics repair place and I've actually done a lot of work here before here check this out I call this stuff is so cool circuit boards and gadgets anything electronic that you can think of whether it's TVs servos drives anything plc's they'll take it they'll repair it they keep it running so they want two three phase charges but there is a slight issue so they want the charges here and here um the problem is this this is an industrial estate in Sunland Island which means only one thing uh the people who are really friendly what else do you think I was going to say oh that's it they're all really good footballers first do you think I was going to say oh that's it they're all really into chicken parmos if you thought I was going to say anything else and you've got some serious Northern racism that you need to get out of your brain but yeah charger theft and electricity theft and cable theft is a massive problem in this area although we're going to put the charges on there we need something that's untethered and we need something where basically people have accounts so the employees can come and Boop tap their card plug their car in and get the electric array into their car without having to uh you know have James from down the street drive his stolen Tesla up here and plug it in and steal all their electricity especially now that Mr Putin has made our electricity so darn expensive so that's that's the problem I've got a way around it let me show you enter the solution which is the zaptec Chargers which I see all over Norway as you probably have guessed by now in the channel I'm a big fan of Norway um but you're not else I'm a big fan of wind turbines I'm a massive fan LOL pretty much they basically provide with their charges these little uh RFID tags here so these tags basically you give them to employees you assign them out they can then stick them on their keys and then they just and then that is assigned to a different account we've got a load of RFID tags for the different people that are going to be getting EVs and obviously leaving them a few spare but it just meets the criteria for a few things that they wanted so obviously I can Loop them in and out if they want to add more to have a little cheeky look at this this is a Rogan so cool I use it for everything I would usually destroy my screwdriver for discount code for that in the description below so obviously if that's the charger I'll show you the job so the cables coming from there it's going round and it's going onto this basket which I actually installed years ago um because believe it or not I used to live up North so I installed all of this a long long time ago um and that goes through and pops into the boardroom there so let me go into that room and show you where it needs to come through I have my little helper with me today so don't mind her um that runs along there underneath there imagine how much fun that's going to be to dress in and then it pokes through the wall over there somewhere um so my plan is just to get the cable in and once we've got that cable in I think it would be really trying to get in the video aren't you once we've got the cable in um through that Gap there oh that's where it goes through down there see it's inside there right so this here the cable that we're going to be installing it is a 5 Core 10 mil oh my gosh I'm getting dizzy there's no data cable inside of it yeah but we just need to reel it off first because the thing is oh if this was take one it would be all right I think the thing is keep going so the thing is we don't really need the data cable inside of this because the server rack is actually in another place so I'm going to be running the service in a different way but you know what let's just get to installing the cable and I'll explain all of this as we go along oh dear so it's going to make you seasick I'm figuring out a new gimbal oh my gosh this is someone's living room that we're playing with here no more film you feel me talking until cabley is in that little Gap basically goes through the plant room um I say I plant room is hardly a plant room really it's just a distribution board but the cable basket runs all the way along behind here and out through into there it's always so interesting coming to drops you've done a long time ago because obviously naturally you improve a lot over the years of doing a job and it's not bad like I can't really criticize it but there's a lot of places where I think actually I would do that better now like even some of my bends not at all terrible but now I probably would use a uh some sort of clip there to hold it in place that internal actually giant that intern was all right pretty happy with that yeah it's not bad like it's not at all a bad job but I definitely would be able to do it better now I guess that's just what comes with experience which is good really it's quite satisfying coming back and seeing how far you've come right then let's get this cable through this wall so please on the other side have a young Norwegian Apprentice with me to say I say young same age as me Norwegian Apprentice with me today however she's camera shy but I think that will change but for now the gonna respect that that could be an interesting little development to the channel I'm probably out of focus right now probably just focused on my butt but hey what's new I might have to do the unforgivable sin and come over the basket just because uh it's gonna be a bit of a tight angle for the cable yes it's very nice to be tidy but you know it's even nicer is safe and compliant job I hope we're playing music over this grunting I've just remembered I've got another cable to get through there as well because there's no chance foreign you got enough lovely all right let me come check now what you've got is perfect nice one good job okay cool let's run it back around the other way we good yeah beautiful I think what we can do is I'll put it into the board once it's in the board you can start cable tying it I'll show you how we do that neatly cable tie it all the way back round through and then we'll go all the way back cut it off the drum run another one okay so here is some brutal honesty I did this board I've not taken this cover off yet and I'm so nervous to take it off especially considering I've admitted that I did it long before cameras long before Instagram was uh being used by me anyways I know what on Earth I was thinking with that cable tray oh I do remember they're all rcd protected everything's on rcbos but I just thought it looked nice kind of not sure if it does or not I think it's all right just because the cables come down into the board but okay moment of truth unfortunately not someone at least I'll try not to be something that criticizes work on the internet my aim of this channel rather than highlight the worst and the most shocking is to actually try and uh highlight find and highlight the best of the industry so I'm careful not to slate off other people's work you never know the budget the situation the customer I'm basically just saying that it's gonna open my board and I'll probably be slated [Music] be fair that's not bad I would definitely do it different now not bad this is it so it comes in through these bushes comes down all the rcbo fly leads I've put inside that spiral wrap which I find really funny because it's actually quite neat but it's just such a funny way of doing it I've used surge protection that was before surge protection was rigged so again it's not it's not shocking anything that is shocking is the only one that I'm pretty sure I didn't do is this Sy can't say other people's work um but yeah it's it's not bad and you know what the crazy thing is I'll probably be saying the same thing about my work in a few years time right so let's get these boxes up conveniently it fits absolutely perfectly between those they have like these plates here the cover I'll show you the one with the cover on it and just fix this to the wall and then the actual charger itself goes on and bolts over that so it attaches onto these four bolting points and then it just plugs in which is lovely I guess that's handy if you're on a first fix gotta be about there isn't it nipple height perfect so I actually think the standard height is a bit a bit too high let's check the height spot on quarter okay solid so easy this has got to be one of my favorite I've just come in to quickly check on uh my new Apprentice on her first day and this has got to be one of my favorite um mistakes I've seen so far because the effort is there 100 all the way along I said to Cable time I said to Cable tight it's the basket well so I said to Cable tie the cable and in all fairness that is exactly what she's done let's cut them and redo that [Music] confession time let me show you something here was me drilling out some lovely holes to the outside world let's pretend that that's my first one there except here's the thing it's not do you see that little hole there um that is where I've screwed up and I hold up my hands here let's go outside I could reshoot this and say that there was no mistakes made but that's not the real world that is where the charger went first of all because that was where the customer marked it was like yep beautiful covers up some old stuff that was there as well like that can be the first that could be the place to put the charger however on the other side of that is a flipping big old still beam is that annoying yes that is extremely extremely annoying could I hide it on camera yes I could um but instead gone spoken to the customer um it's better that people will who are starting businesses apprentices whatever learn that everyone makes mistakes and it's better to highlight them and show how to deal with them rather than cover them up because that's just not human so what I've done is I've spoken to the customer the customer is cool with it actually surprisingly cool I'll probably will expect them to be worse but what I'm going to do is I'm going to fill all of these gaps and then think of something to put there I was thinking maybe the EV charger sign would fit nicely there so I'll order them one of those you know the EV charger parking I just thought it'd be best for me to show you that so that you can see I am just a dumb dumb human being little human being with a face right so this cable here that is all installed now that goes all the way back to the board I've got a wire in that end but it comes through I take the armoring off here and then it pops through the wall because annoyingly I didn't think about this but the zap Tech I've upsized the cable basically because the distance in the voltage drop that zap Tech will not fit a 10 mil 5 Core SWA in so I've stripped it back to that inner core it's still double insulated and then that will come through and pop into the back of the zap Tech this one which is a lovely place to work on back here that is what I'm going to quickly do now and this is how you get a nice tight boot right no one wants saggy boots or shroud whatever you want to call it really come closer now see that is super tight enough to use a lot of pressure to stretch that around it pop that on there slide that all the way up I'll show you the most important trick most important part of doing an SWA cable probably not what you're thinking it's not to do with the uh the tightness of the boot to do with the orientation of your little Olive more important than that got taught it by an old boy Sparky this is my secret this is my tip to pick up all the armorings after and tidy them up because it doesn't matter how good you are at doing SWA cables if you leave these little still wires everywhere probably never going to get used again you can have that one but completely free [Music] right so we're back it's another day I don't really know how I've concluded it yesterday I feel like I probably didn't really do a nice end of the day thing because I was hoping to finish yesterday but I had a couple of nightmares but other jobs nightmares um fixing things planning things quoting things I've got a job going on in a minute in Berlin which has taken up so much of my time and energy basically we're connecting up a ton of spin bikes to the grid that will be a very cool video and that's coming soon also we couldn't get hold of Hager Breakers but thank you Dan dmh Renewables nowhere near here had them in stock so I had to drive all the way to Darlington to pick them up from Dan but got the cables in I'm just I need to pop it down but just run them roughly into place um got like bought it through there just with some grommets and then down into the box and then it goes straight through that box outside behind here that was an absolute pain in the bum but it looks so neat I'm using the uh the d-line clips which I only have discovered recently I used to use the ones that would go inside trunking and I thought they were the only ones they made but they make everything these ones and they look pretty tidy on this so I'm just going to clip this one down once that's all clipped in I'll show you the the full install right so these are the clips I'm using these uh d-line jobbies and I've got these orbix screws non-sponsored but they sold them I think in Screwfix or wherever and they're very decent metal self tappers I find two clips does it nicely they're actually quite reasonably priced but do you remember my whole philosophy in episode one where I said like I'm putting uh quality over convenience and cost it affords me to get things like this where I can get better quality materials and just take my time a little bit more on things they look so discreet once it's wrapped around especially on camera that probably just disappears my little uh helper though with me again today might end up being an apprentice one day we'll see the thing is The Apprentice role for me is a bit of a interesting one really because I could do with an apprentice that's for sure some jobs are just a nightmare to do on your own but it's very hard to find The Apprentice who's gonna be willing to basically do a bit of everything you've got to travel I might spend a week just designing like this Berlin job that has been so much time just designing sitting there on meetings and things my work might be that one week you might be doing a bit of in-store a bit of this bit of that and also it's a bit of a media apprenticeship really as well as next they've got to be up for taking over the camera from time to time to help film things because that's a big part of my business now so it's been tricky but I think I found someone but yeah we're just seeing how it goes at the minute right enough waffling let me show you there you go so that's the clip there you can see it's got the the thing that wraps around the cable it kind of folds over itself and clips itself in tucks itself in which just looks very smart when you're pulled away you can barely see it but anyway that's the cable running that's my first fix now so time to go do the dangerous end and stick it into the board aha here we are we're at the board um or the DB so we've got the cables here dressed back on the basket I'll put all of this stuff back experiment with some angles on the camera work hope you appreciate that uh oh man this is gonna be a reap faff this is uh I'll just picked this up from the local Bar Mitzvah that was going on ah elephant circumcision tool foreign [Music] xljd500b cable cutter um Johnny no net got it for me I don't think it's a brand definitely not sponsored don't really know where you can buy it but you know you guys have the internet figure it out for yourself see the thing is right I'm so jealous of these people you have like great grandparents and grandparents that were all sparkies and they can say yeah I'm a fifth generation spark or whatever I haven't got that don't get me wrong my grandparents are great my grandfather he had the heart of a lion and a lifetime man from the local Zoo um but he was no electrician so yeah um kind of leaves me to fend for myself in the electrical world sorry if I didn't like that joke probably maybe a bit this basement is my pool it's just been a bit hard lately so I've been turned into humor uh yeah somebody stole my mood ring don't really know how I feel about it [Music] to prove a point that you can if you're competent use a grinder people that say it's wrong well I don't see how it's any different to using a SDS over a raw plug tool you know as long as you know what you're doing do a little score okay on a real high risk area with a real high risk cable where like nicking it means running it again like in an atex zone or something no I'm gonna be using spark free hacksaws and things but for when you're just uh nipping off an armored and you have a load of them to do let me tell you it works an absolute treat not a scratch done completely with a grinder Point made there's one made of I'm just gonna get them both boshed out because you've seen 100 000 rpk would be made of you don't need to show you another one and if you do comment below and I will show you another one it's a curse but annoyingly a little bit sidetracked here do I have time for this no have I allowed time for snow but I couldn't help but try to tidy this up a little bit um so I've actually just taken some of the circuits out to tied them up a bit it's not that it was bad although it was dangerous I just felt like it could be a little bit better so I'm just trying to figure out how to dress it in a bit nicer I've moved some of the circuits around to make space for these new ones at this point I'm really running out of time especially to film so it's kind of like my priority is either film or tidy up the board and make a better job for the customer so unfortunately my priority is the customer in this scenario so I'm going to brush this out get this tidy get this all done and then I'll come back to you when it comes to putting the charges on and programming it see you in a bit right I'm finished with the install finally so now it's just a case of testing labeling and commissioning which I've never commissioned this updates before I just wanted to point out quickly you can have all the tests in snubber you want to have in the world this thing I absolutely love it it is so easy to use and the settings on there are straightforward and uh again I like it when a company is confident in their product I was skeptical right qtec reached out to me and said oh we want to send you a tester obviously at my last company I use my trail for a bit I hated it tried fluke I do like fluke actually and mega as well but I'm never actually given qtec a try and I always thought because they were cheap they were not good but I was very wrong and uh yeah don't be a tester snob like when people used to slag me off for using DeWalt Door looks great and it's cheap and the batteries are cheap just because something is cheap does not mean always that it's inferior quality um so yeah anyways if you're wondering what tester I use this is it as you might be able to hear it's absolutely pouring it down with rain so uh I'm preparing everything inside but this is my thing to cover the hole out there I've filled it with silicon I showed the owner of the place and he was absolutely chill with it I said I'll buy this sign stick that over it that covers the hole perfectly and I thought I'd show you these little screw caps here see if you can focus on that they're really smart what they do is the screw goes in there and you just pop it over like that just makes for a slightly more professional finish once I've actually pushed it in I don't really want to push it in because I feel like it's gonna be really hard to get off they just make for a more professional finish so once it's screwed in the screw will just blend in there's those little touches that are just nice that really has turned into a little happy accident that looks well smart I'm pretty happy with that there we go so we've got the little EV charging station and the two things ready to be fitted so now I'll do the put the covers on these and get testing so that literally just plugs in you see there's a little socket there socket there plug here that just pops on plugs in and then this fixes on back ah there's a bit fiddly I've actually ordered one of these for home not for installing at my home because I don't I don't have an EV yet but for pulling it apart really curious to see how they've done things and I'm not really comfortable voiding the warranty and filling one apart on someone's charger that they have on their house or on their property but uh you see like they've got the links thing there on the circuit board and all the different parts I'm actually really curious to see how it's been put together so my plan is I'm going to be pulling this apart maybe I'll make a video of it or maybe I'll get in trouble making a video of it because probably a lot of it's someone's intellectual property there we go that's one fitted let's get the other one on [Music] foreign all right so now we've finished the job I thought it'd be the perfect time to debut my new Apprentice um I've been a bit secretive about it I know but it's because people don't always accept her kind on uh on building sites there's a lot of prejudice um against her kind so I thought I just uh do them a favor she can be a bit naughty especially on site she licks people's faces which customers don't always appreciate and she gets wet Footprints absolutely everywhere but I'm going to introduce her anyway because she's really cute and she's with me on today's job foreign I'd like you to meet Ellie hey Ellie and uh you know she's she's here to help today she's the real reason why we uh we finished as quick as we did I did think about human Apprentice but the trouble is that when you have a human Apprentice there's a lot of back chat it's hard to find loyalty whereas with a pupper it's guaranteed loyalty there's no no question and uh very easy to please very simple and no back chat is there it's early so my advice to you is if you're on an apprentice that will always show up on time we'll always be loyal and uh we'll lick your face when you need them to get yourself a dog right so this is the install finish now so just to quickly show you how it works in a rush because I am so late for my next appointment um but you see the different charge States it will change color according to those charge States um and then this basically just simulates simulates a Charged pilot from inside a car so it's basically the brain of an EB vehicle I've set up these key fobs so these little key fobs here what they do is uh their RFID tags so everyone can have them on their keys or they can have their phone come scan on that then assigns that charge to that user's account so if I was just to come and plug into here right now instead it's not going to do anything but only when I tap that hear that little beep that's now assigned that to me so then that user if I then should plug in my car that's going to charge against my account and if the owner of the system wants to they can set up the charging system for that so that they can actually charge them or at least just track the usage so pretty clever I really like it um they've got two of them on here and I like that they fit nicely in there as well so anyway thanks so much for watching that's everything see you next time [Music] thank you
