[Music] hello welcome to coffee talk with post and beam um i want to do a follow-up on plumbing my ecm synthronica and just a couple little minor issues i ran into uh first off let me just say i i love this machine um it's it's been a great machine so far i'm very happy with it the only issue i had out of the box is and i'll show a little video of it wobbling here but when i first got the tray and i installed it brand new it actually the drip tray actually wobbled quite a bit and it looks like they just didn't do a good job in the factory of making sure everything was kind of properly put together before it left as far as the drip tray so what i had to do to get it to not wobble is i had to put in some little felt shims i don't mind this so much i totally understand that nothing life's perfect and sometimes it needs a little bit of tweaking to get it just dialed in so i'm using these guys and i'll show you a little picture of what these are for therefore underneath the bar stool they wrap around the chrome feet and they allow the barstool to slide back and forth on the floor and what they have is a nice felt pad here and these long wings and i'll post what these are called the company that makes them so if somebody wants to look that up and find it um what i did is i used under this drip tray if you could see that on the inside here and then there's one right there i cut the little plastic wing piece on one of them and i just put a little tab on the ends here and that allows this screen to be very stable there's no rocking there's no annoying clanking as it as it wobbles at all it just gives it a better better hold and then under here it was a little bit more extensive they have this really nice drip flange which is wonderful because water gets here and it drips around so they've done a nice job it's a well-made piece uh no coins about that but i had to put a couple pieces of this felt under the front lip and then on here on this little rail i put some little felt buttons or little tab pieces and when i put that all in there and i hook it under this under this lip it no longer wobbles at all it's it's working perfectly i'm very happy i'm not worried about the felt getting wet because nothing underneath here should ever be wet there's already electronics and other stuff plus there's the countertop you don't want any water coming around and getting in there so there's the first thing the second problem i had you remove a little a little cap here and when you remove that little cap that's what allows the uh the hole here to open up so it can go in this little plastic catch basin that you attach and then there's my drain line seems like a good design the biggest problem is the hole here is larger than the hole right here so what can happen is you can quickly overwhelm the amount of water that will hold in this position this little catch basin and then it spills out onto the countertop which is super annoying so um and the machine's kind of heavy you got to pick it up and all that kind of stuff i don't like this particular design i understand it because it allows you to be able to remove the the basin easily to clean it but i want to just plumb the basin directly into my line so to do that and i'll post the part number of these two things ecm actually makes a little drain kit and there's the part that's going to go on the lower i'll i'll expand out this hole a little bit and then i'll i'll attach this to the top and then when you screw this in and put a little plumber's putty here it then makes this the direct drain and then you can connect this directly to your hose line that will completely eliminate the need for this little catch basin thing um i don't know if anybody else has plumbed this but i'm sure other people have to catch basin over overwhelmed so you just have to be really careful here this is a huge amount of water in here so if you if you fill this thing up and it over tops it's like filling up a bathtub i can't imagine how you would do that but anyhow basically i want to remove this and attach my hose so i'm going to work on that i'm going to expand the hole and i'll show you guys how it's turning [Music] out all right i want to show you guys how it turned out so there's the little uh drain piece on the top and if we come underneath you can see the 90 degree elbow and then that's going down into my existing drain i put a little braided stainless steel hose clamp to make sure it doesn't leak no water down here we're going to add a bunch of water and see if it leaks i did do a video on plumbing this explains how the rest of the plumbing works if you're interested i'll put a link at the end of this video and let me hook this into the camera tripod we'll push the little tray in get it all locked in there properly there we go now normally i would not take this tray in and out i just clean it in position like the rest of the espresso machine and what i ended up doing to put that in i did a little time lapse there i used a half inch drill bit then i used a dremel bit that's a grinding bit for metal that has kind of a cone shape and then this is a one and a half millimeter dremel drum grinding bit and the the hole i needed was just maybe a little bit over maybe 1.6 millimeters or 1.6 centimeters i think is what it is um so not not too uh not too big it would there would be lots of ways to do this but all i have is a dremel and a drill so that's why i had to work with it much nicer than this plastic thing that they gave you then i put a little bit of plumber's putty on the inside lip before i put the whole piece together then cranked it down pretty tight with a eight millimeter socket uh or allen key that fits inside the inside of the drain so you can tighten that down and then there you go so let's add some water um i don't have the pump on this is just line pressure so that would be what a normal drain amount would be i'm going to add this uh pitcher this is uh 50 cl and we're going to see if we can add quite a bit of water here so okay there we go so that's a ton of water going down into the uh drip tray you can see underneath there [Music] pretty much dries bone so much more water than you'd ever ever want to add i mean this is like using this like a regular drain [Music] obviously plenty of plenty of suction to pull the water down not suction but plenty of vacuum in that area and now the tray is mostly empty there's going to be a little tiny bit of water it's going to take a while to drip out or evaporate not really not really a big concern for me eventually you know i'll obviously clean the tray every once in a while i'm not going to pull it out generally i'll just wipe it down in position but yeah that's how it works so uh between that and fixing the wobble um i'm very happy with the setup next thing i need over here is a grinder so uh i'll post a link to a couple of the grinders i'm thinking about if somebody has any impression of the two i'm looking at the um legum p64 and the titus nautilus made by frank dura in germany if somebody has any experience with either one of those let me know share your comments i know there's a lot of other grinders out there but those are the two that are kind of calling my name but if you have something else you feel is much better idea let me know and hopefully this helps somebody make their ecm awesome thanks so much
