if you just heard about Government Contracting or maybe you didn't even know about it until you landed on this amazing video this video is for you you may Wonder well what is Government Contracting and why would they want to purchase from you federal government state local cities counties they need things Lawn Service they need office furniture they need Staffing even think of an airport they have concessions they have security guess who typically provides Ides these various products and services there's small business owners like this one right here My poping Curls as well as you they love utilizing small businesses as well as large businesses to provide the products and services they can't just go out and start purchasing like we do in our everyday lives there are different rules and regulations they have to follow so for instance with the federal government it's very simple in order to become a vendor you just need a legal business you can be a soul proprietor you can have a corporation and you just need to register in sam.gov it's as simple as that and you can literally sell almost any and everything I started out back in 2007 selling training and development that was my wheelhouse a lot of it was around Equity diversity and inclusion at Patrick Air Force Space at that time since then we've transitioned into inspecting vape shops providing training for food inspectors Staffing Chapel so what's beautiful on the federal government as well as local government you don't have to sell what you already sell what you know and of course if you want to do that you can do it too but you are not limited because these different organizations they want to buy from you so what I have here in front of me are some statistics because on the federal government side they have goals so for small business spend in 2023 23% of government contracts we're talking well over 800 billion be and Bravo dollars 23% went to small businesses at least 23% that was the goal they ended up doing 28% for small disadvantage AA different companies like that the goal was 12% they did and awarded 12.10% for woman-owned the goal was 5% they awarded 4.9 for service disabled the goal was 3% they awarded five for Hub Zone goal was three they awarded 2.78 % the federal government they need us because there's so many large companies locked Martin Amazon SpaceX who are getting amazing contracts and they should but at the same time they want to support a small businesses we are the ones who Fuel and grow the economy in The Amazing United States that's what we do majority of business owners are small business owners on the state and local side you simply sometimes have to register with them sometimes you don't every state local County municipality they all vary it's just how it is that's what makes America great you know it's just how it is when it comes to the federal government many times the subject of certifications come up you know I heard because I'm a minority I can get contracts because my wife she should be the business owner majority owner we're going to get contracts because I'm a vet I'm going to get a ton of contracts the answer is it's up to you as far as the number of contracts that you get I have a colleague who is a small business that is a certification you get typically automatically with the federal government and so far he's already done $40 million just this year you don't need these set aside in order to win profitable government contracts you don't need them at all what you need to be able to do is be open to reading be open to writing be open to people saying no to you it all is here if you know oh my gosh I can totally do this you know for instance I just interviewed a couple they've won a contract to remove a boat they are making $10,000 on this one contract for another company to remove a boat they went online they found companies who remove boats and the company has to destroy it they won I mean it's amazing what you can do in this space you can use Government Contracting as a side hustle earn extra money to leave your full-time job whatever it is that you want to do you can make possible because everything is possible in this space for those of you who want to know a little more about certifications there are several and here's what I want to suggest to you on the federal side pretty much you can apply for all of them for free I recommend that you wait until you have a win or two under your belt before applying on the state and local Side by all means we're registered in the great state of Florida and I am a woman minority business Enterprise I've been in that system since 2008 I highly suggest you do it at the state level because it's easy and it will help you when you go for your federal level designations because you cannot swap a state level designation for a federal level to designation you can't do that but it helps when you apply or you go to bid on all of these things the federal level it's sam.gov and Unison those are the two most widely used sites you can build a multi-million doll business from those two sites on the state and local side well there's a lot of different sites I suggest you focus in your particular state or if you can afford it you pay for a membership with a website where they'll give you access to multiple States again that's just the nature of how things work in the United States every single state govern itself they have their own rules and regulations but at the end of the day you don't give up so when you're on sam.gov you can look based on a NES code that's a code that's used to identify what it is you're interested in selling you can use use a keyword search you can do a search by date there's so many ways you can search don't feel overwhelmed you figured out Instagram you figured out Tik Tok you figured out Snapchat LinkedIn so you're telling me you're scared of sam.gov there's no reason to be scared of sam.gov there's no difference yes it may be the federal government but at the end of the day the federal government is just regular People Like Us regular shular people that's all it is so what will happen is you will then need to read the documents you can easily upload these in chat GPT and have it extract some information so don't worry also you will need to respond to the opportunity with a proposal and this is what typically kind of scares people and that's why I'm in the middle of launching a new proposal writing class so be ready for that cuz people freak out they're like H I don't really know what to do I don't I'm going to hire somebody hey I did that I actually hired an inexpensive proposal writer an inexpensive propal proposal writer I'm going to record a video on it and let me tell you the inexpensive one gave me a horrible proposal at the end of the day but it was a good lesson because it's not about that you have to understand what you are responding to what does it take for you to win what do they really want what is it going to require of you if you're bidding on janitorial do you need to pay the janitorial company every week if you're bidding on product and you're selling 20,000 lbs of dog food to Department of State do you need to front the money these are questions you need to ask yourself because so often I get DMS hey Dr Parks hey KY hey krisy I just won this contract and I don't have any money I need to give it back I don't want to sign it I don't want to keep it and it breaks my heart because you work so hard to get into sam.gov to figure out how to bid to win and then you're like no n mm- so just take a breath this is a beautiful space this is a space where you can go from having a cage code what you need for the federal side March 20th and winning a contract that's giving you $10,000 April 24th that's what happened with the married couple I recently interviewed on the federal side sometimes on the state and local depending if you do not win you have 3 days once they release who won to request what's called a debrief you do this in writing if it's an opportunity that's based on cost often they may say this contract doesn't qualify so in other words you were just too expensive you need to lower your prices and move on and some have said well yeah KY but I still want feedback on my proposal but you're not getting it it's like when you go to the dollar store a dollar store is great I love a dollar store especially the one in msan Michigan at the end of the day does the Dollar Store have the same Vibe as a Dior it doesn't the proposal is kind of irrelevant they just wanted a good deal that's it it's how it works for opportunities where the debrief does apply take that information in apply it and keep adjusting you learn apply adjust you learn apply adjust so if they said you need to explain more about the how future proposals to how let's say they said yeah the resumés are great but we wanted somebody with more experience with this degree now you know going forward what to do these are invaluable where else can you get feedback when you're bidding on something if you submitted a bid to Google are they going to give you feedback on your proposal I don't think so maybe I'm wrong let me know but I don't think so next when you win an opportunity this is when the real work begins you have to deliver overd deliver and properly invoice I have a variety of videos talking about this and this is vital because too often you win and you think okay I'm just going to keep it moving and go on to the next one this is where client relations jump in so be prepared there may be surprises there may be delays who knows but this is the beauty of being an entrepreneur you're still working for yourself at the end of the day it's not for somebody else it's for you you should be proud of yourself you know be proud this is an amazing place and space to be in and if the opportunity contract wins allow hire somebody you can get somebody from another country sometimes they're two three $4 an hour bring on people but bring on people who you need who you're able to explain to them this is what I want this is how I want it and this is how you be held accountable too often we don't do this I know from so much experience please don't do the things I did please don't do this I hired people who I went to college with I hired people that I thought were cool I hired people that you know I liked so you know and and of course it led to K castrop please don't do those things but it's always important to expand your bandwidth
